I been running an Exchange 2007 single copy cluster for a few years, so I'm experienced in setting up MS clusters in an Exchange environment. Now, I'm playing with Exchange 2013 in my lab environment and I have 2 Exchange 2013 cas/mailbox servers and I setup the DAG and it's working, but I'm confused about the setup. Here are my questions (all of my reading about dag setups doesn't seem to answer my questions)
- Before I setup my DAG, I pre-staged my CNO computer object I called it DAG1. I also created a DNS A record for this AD object, and added a static address let's say 192.168.1.4 . Again, since this is going to be a cluster computer object, I'm assuming it needs to have a static IP as well, is that correct? I'm falling back on my 2007 cluster experience as thinking this is just like a 2007 CMS (cluster mailbox server object), is my thinking correct? So now I have pre-staged computer object called DAG1 with a static IP and DNS A record.
- Using Exchange 2013 ECP console I create the DAG, I'm falling back on my cluster knowledge, and say to myself when I name this DAG it has to be the same name as the CNO object I pre-staged. Is this corect? So I name my DAG, DAG1. Again, I'm thinking this is the same as Exchange 2007 CMS (cluster mailbox server).
- I also add my file share witness, no errors everything is fine.
Now my confusion comes in as to what IP address I need to add to the DAG.
- Do I have to add the IP address of my CNO object I created DAG1, in my example 192.168.1.4 and I'm done? Since I'm using my primary nic card in each exchange server for both mapi and replication traffic?
- Am I confusing the 2 and the CNO object, has nothing to do with the IP addresses added to the DAG?
- Assuming both my exchange serves are on the same subnet, do I just add an available IP? If I do, does this IP require a host name?
Hopefully someone understands my confusion.. Thanks!
