ECP / OWA 500 internal error message

Good Afternoon all;

We have just installed our first Exchange server (2013 SP1) on a 2012 r2 Standard server.

The installation went without any errors. I installed the mailbox and client access in one server. I followed technet 2013 help for installation (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx).

After installation , I can open up the toolbox and the exchange powershell without any problems.

However, when I try to access https://localhost/owa or ecp , I can put my username and password (domain\username and password) , it gives a 500 internal error.

I have tried the following

  • Resetting iis with iisreset (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/2f64d305-e9e2-4f48-a5b4-4f72d7bca801/exchange-2013-owaecp-http-500-internal-server-error?forum=exchangesvrclients)
  • Tried logging in with https://servername/ecp or owa (http://www.alihassanlive.com/e2k3/2014/2/9/cannot-open-eac-in-exchange-2013-500-internal-server-error.html)
  • I did this redirect thing, it did not help (http://msexchangeguru.com/2013/10/30/http-redirect-owa-ecp/)
  • Tried the netbios name (exchange) , it did not help, also tried netbios.domainname , it did not work either (http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/568178-http-500-internal-server-exchange-2013-ecp)
  • I CAN NOT FIND THIS SERVICE ON MY SERVER , if someone knows how to enable or find it, that might be my problem(

Make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Forms Based Authentication service is started. ??? Any ideas where I can find this service , I looked everywhere and did not see it.

  • I have not deleted the ECP or OWA directories from IIS yet.
  • I did do the authentication stuff (enabling windows authentication, forms etc.)

Any ideas WHY am I having the error message still ?

Note : We have a lab , and only 2 servers, one has the AD and the other one is only exchange server.

Thank you

Note 2 : I have not done anything with AD after I installed exchange server (the user thats logging into exchange server is the administrator in the AD)
