Exchange 2010 - Updating the folder displayed for a long time - in Cached Mode

Hi,

I am in the process of migrating our users from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. I have done 5 so far, and hit an issue.

Server is a fresh install of Windows 2008 64 bit- Fully updated

Exchange is 2010 Standard - SP2 and updated

The Server is running 8 gig of ram.. and CPU / performance levels are minimal at 1 - 2% cpu. Memory usage is a consistent 4.64 Gig... it never changes

The issue i am having is that when a user connects in Cached mode in outlook ( tried 2007, 2010 ) "Updating this folder" is displayed for a very long period of time, before new emails come in. This happens evey time outlook is restarted.. Times vary, but generally its at least 3 minutes... It took 7 minutes for one user to start and recieve their email...

The update time on Exchange 2003 was 20 seconds, so its very noticable and users are complaining.

Without Cache mode, emails are instant, but again, the send / recieve bar along the bottoms sits there, at about 50% for 3 - 7 minutes, although emails do come in quicker..

It doesnt seem like a network speed issue, as ive done a few tests and the server connection is fine.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
