ECP not connecting with Edge Tranpost role ("Requested registry access is not allowed,". )

$

I installed and configured an Edge Transport server.

In ECP under servers if I click to access the Edge Transport server I get a warning message pop up that says "An error occurred while accessing the registry on the server "FQDN". The error that occurred is: "Requested registry access is not allowed,".

If I answer "Okay" I get the standard info and am allowed to enter a product key which did save. Operation appears normal and mail-flow is functioning.

Any help is much obliged.

Configuring Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 virtual directories for coexistence.

$

I'm testing Exchange 2010/Exchange 2013 coexistence in a lab environment.  Below is the set-up:

Exchange 2010 has 2 Exchange servers.  Each server houses the CAS, mailbox and hub transport roles.  There is a DAG configured and they are installed on 2008R2 servers.

Exchange 2013 also has 2 servers.  Each server has the CAS and mailbox roles installed and there is also a DAG configured.  These Exchange servers are installed on 2012R2.

Since installing 2013, I'm struggling getting the virtual directories configured correctly for EWS, OWA etc.  Basically, I'm just looking for straight forward documentation on how the particular virtual directories should be configured for a 2010/2013 coexistence scenario.  Any help in pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.  Thanks.

Exchange 2007/2013SP1 mailbox (15GB) migration stalled.

We have successfully migrated all our mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013SP1, except one mailbox with the 15GB size, which stalled at 95%, even we tried "Resume-MoveRequest", but again the same error:

Here is the error:

POP3 Authentication fails on Exchange 2013 server.

We have an internal help desk app that needs to use POP3 to send acknowledgements.  Everything worked fine with the previous Exchange 2010 server, but I am getting "Connection reset" from the help desk app and unexpected terminations (0x800CCC0F) from an Outlook Express client I am using to test this scenario.

The two POP3 services: the Microsoft Exchange POP3 service and the Microsoft Exchange POP3 Backend services are running.

My Test-PpoConnectivity returns this:

So started setting up Exchange 2013 and ran into a random issue regarding the OAB. Resolved by deleting/recreating the OAB in Exchange 2010.

My issue now is setup will not complete, just tells me an "Incomplete Installation Detected" starts to resume the installation.   Upon "next" I receive just a hanging screen of "Setup Progress" which goes no where.

Exchange 2013 OWA redirect - IIS 8.0 - iisstart.htm not showing

Hi,

When I type in https://mail.mydomain.local it auto redirects to https://mail.mydomain.local/owa.

I checked 'IIS 8.0 manager -> default web site -> http redirect' and there are no redirects here.

'iis -> default web site' also shows that the default document is 'iisstart.htm'.

How can I get the 'default web site' to show 'iisstart.htm' instead of it redirecting to https://mail.mydomain.local/owa?

I remember when I first installed Exchange 2013, 'iisstart.htm' showed up. Perhaps CU3 update changed it to auto go to https://mail.mydomain.local/owa.

Thanks

Moving from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online: AD issue

Dear All,

Our company will moving from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online and we have a on-premise WinSer 2008R2 for AD.

Currently, user have to login to our domain and use the same ID and PW to access their outlook.

1.If we move to Exchange online, do we have to do anything with our on-premise AD server?

2.If user prefer using only one ID and PW for PC to access domain and Exchange online, what should we do?

3.Is there any point or do we still need current on-premise AD server after we moved to Exchange Online?

Thank you so much for your attention and help!

Best regards,

Shiloh

Trying to Uninstall: An incomplete installation was detected. Run setup to complete Exchange installation.

Hello All...

Trying to uninstall Exchange 2013 CUv2 v2. I've moved all the Mailboxes, Arbitration, Discovery, Public Folder, etc to another working server. Everything was moved over fine. Uninstall via the control panel proceeded as normal, then just failed. No choice but to exit. Now when trying to recover, and uninstall again....I cannot. I get the vague error of "An incomplete installation was detected.  Run setup to complete Exchange installation."

Not that I want to, but tried to reinstall, but can't do that either.

I know it's a last resort and not supported, but can I just use ASDIEdit ,and manually remove the server references? If so, what is a good guide on the procedure....? I don't want spend hours pouring over setup logs and the registry if I don't have to- just want this removed from AD.

I've searched the net quite a bit on manual removal, but can't find a concise how-to...

Any help is appreciated ...Thanks

Exchange 2013 Multi Site Not SR/HA

$

This is the first time we have deployed a multi site Exchange organization.  Here is the scenario and I am wondering if it is the correct one or if I should have done it a different way.

We have a VPN setup between our corporate location and a satellite campus.  The satellite campus has it's own namespace and is a tree in our forest.  We have Exchange 2013 SP1 setup at the corp location.  We installed two Exchange 2013 SP1 servers at the satellite location in that domain in the same Exchange organization.  I was able to create a few linked users mailboxes (newly acquired and in process of user migration into our forest) and mail delivers between the two without issue.  But lately every new user will not receive email and they will be in the queue.  Does not matter if the email is from a corp user or a local user on the same mailbox server.

We decided to do this because we want them to have all of their Exchange resources, email, CAS services and UM local to them, but they are still part of our system.  I am having a hard time finding why this is happening.  I also noticed that the emails sent from one satellite user to another is actually going through the corp hub transport server and not their local.  Sites and Services is setup with the correct subnets for each site.  I have verified the send and receive connectors.

Is this scenario the best way to configure our organization or should we simply have created a second organization of their own and tried to share calendars, etc between the two?  All of our other services are centrally located so it only made sense that this should also work but before going live I wanted to see if this was the optimal way.  This is not a high availability or site resiliency plan.  No DAGs are used.  We are just one company with two separate very remote disjoint locations and even though we have a small VPN for services we would like to keep as much as possible local to that site.

I have not been able to find information on this scenario.  Everything seems to point to SR/HA scenarios.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Decommissioning the last exchange 2003 server

We are in the process of doing a staged migration from exchange 2003 to office 365. We have dirsync working and have migrated most of our mailboxes to office365. We have also converted all migrated mail boxes to mail enabled users that have been migrated. After we finish with migrating the last mailbox and convert it to a mail enabled use we would like to completely decommission our on-premises Exchange organization. We are not using a single sign-on solution and there is no federated server just dirsync. The Migrate Mailboxes to Exchange Online with a Staged Migrationhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj874018(v=exchg.150).aspx says “Decommissioning Exchange can have unintended consequences. Before decommissioning your on-premises Exchange organization, we recommend that you contact Microsoft Support”. Well no one at Microsoft Support will talk to me because support for Exchange 2003 has ended.

The procedure for Uninstalling Exchange Server 2003http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125110(EXCHG.65).aspx says before you begin that you cannot uninstall Exchange Server 2003 from a server if it is the only server in your organization running the Recipient Update Service. Instead, you must first use Exchange System Manager to enable the Recipient Update Service on another server. Well this is the last exchange server so I have no place to move it to.

I need to know the correct procedure for Decommissioning the last exchange 2003 server after migrating to office 365.I also must avoid the “unintended consequences” that the Mailboxes to Exchange Online with a Staged Migration procedure warns about.

Exchange 2013 sending winmail.dat

Greetings all,

I've got a new Exchange 2013 setup and external internet users have been reporting that attachments they receive from internal users are showing only as winmail.dat (why does this problem still exist?!?)

In Exchange 2010 I had a transport rule that sent *everything* to the internet as plain-text to stop this happening, but I can't seem to find any info on how to do this in Exchange 2013. There's no obvious options in the ECP, so I'm guessing it's a powershell command?

Unable to access Exchange 2013 EAC/ECP webpage

Hi All,

Getting extremely frustrated now with a new Exchange 2013 installation on a Windows Server 2012 VM...

After having a lot of problems with the installation (didn't uninstall visual c++ which caused failure, then needed to delete the AD Microsoft Exchange System Objects group due to permission failures, etc) I've now got a fully installed Exchange server. Still, now I cannot figure out how to fix my next problem - Accessing the EAC/ECP.

I've searched every possible web guide/forum thread and the only one which is the same issue I'm having is this one: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/89c42771-78c9-4d94-88e5-557320eccc71

Unfortunately, as you can see in that thread, it is still unresolved.

Current Issue: trying to access https://localhost/ecp (or any other variation) returns a 404 Not Found.

The error page points the physical path to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ecp however that folder does not exist. I have tried manually changing the IIS site (Exchange Back End) to point its physical path to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\ecp which seems to be valid, however it doesn't work...

Not sure what else to do... HELP!

Multiple E-mail Address Policies

$

We are running Exchange 2010.  For our e-mail addresses we use the formatfirstname.lastname@domain name.    This works fine until we get a username with a number after it.

E.g. 1st John Doe ->  jdoe - > John.Doe@happy.com

       2nd John Doe -> jdoe1 -?  John.Doe1@happy.com

       3rd  John Doe - > jdoe2 -> John.Doe2@happy.com

Is there any way to configure the e-mail addresses in Exhange so that the correct e-mail address is associated with the account when the exchange mailbox is created.  Currently we have to manually fix any account that do exactly matchfirstname.lastname@happy.com

Cross forest mailbox moves with existing MEU in target domain

$

Hello,

Domain A - Source domain with Exchange Mailboxes and AD account

Domain B - Target domain which will host only mailbox (Linked).  AD account will remain in Domain A.

If I have an existing "Mail User" in Domain B with a matching External SMTP address of a user mailbox which is to be moved from Domain A I find that the target address is not set correctly when running the following preparemoverequest.ps1 script.

prepare-moverequest.ps1 -remoteforestdomaincontroller sourcedc.source.local -remoteforestcredential $remotecredentials -localforestdomaincontroller targetdc.target.local -localforestcredential $localcredentials -targetmailuserou "ou=migrated,dc=target,dc=local" -verbose -identity testuser -mailboxdeliverydomain source.ex.local -linkedmailuser -overwritelocalobject -uselocalobject

I specify "-mailboxdeliverydomain" to set the required target address but this is not set and the targetaddress remains the same.

I guess I could workaround this by scripting the change but I wonder why it does not set the target address as I have specified.  Note if a Mail User does not already exist the script correctly sets the target address to the domain specified in -mailboxdeliverydomain.

In addition after the mailbox is moved the mailbox is set to a User Mailbox and not linked mailbox.  In the preparemoverequest I specify the -linkedmailuser switch and disable the AD account for the mail user in the source domain.  This can be fixed after the mailbox move by running the following command but I wonder why this is happening?

set-user -id user1 -linkedmasteraccount source\user1 -linkeddomaincontroller sourcedc.source.local -linkedcredential(get-credential)

Many Thanks

Mark
