Problem with Exchange 2010 Public Folders after installing Exchange 2013 in my environment.

I currently have an Exchange 2010 server with all the roles installed.  Before installing Exchange 2013, I was able to launch the Public Folder Management Console but now I get an error.  When I installed Exchange 2013, I got an error saying I had a instance of Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, but I didn't have any of these servers left.  There was still something in AD referencing my old server. I went into ADSIedit and deleted an old administrative group.  This deletion caused my access to my public folders to get messed up.  I followed this article, http://blog.bruteforcetech.com/archives/766, and I was able to gain access back in my outlook client but I still can't see the public folders in OWA.  I also get this error when trying to access either Default or System Public Folders.  "Cannot complete the operation because there isn't an available public folder database on server 'ExchangeServer'. It was running the command 'get-publicfolder - getchildren -identity '\' -server 'ExchangeServer' "

My Public Folder Database exists and is mounted.  Any help is appreciated.

On my first Exchange install I changed all the virtual directory's to point to mail.domain.com.  I've added a second exchange server to another site and have round robin dns including the host name in the A record "mail".  Would I also change the virtual directories on the second server to mail.domain.com?

First my organize has Exchange on 2 site like
site A (internet facing) : 2CAS 2 MB all are Services pack1

site B (DR Site , no user active on this site) : 2CAS 2MB all are Services pack 1

so today I upgrade Exchange 2013 from SP1 to CU5 start on "site B" and I found this issue and the details is....

When I open EMS on any CU5 for query something (like get-mailboxdatabasecopystatus) the response return very slow and some query will not return at all (like get-owavirtualdirectory).

But If I using EMS on SP1. Everything is ok then I try to use EMS on SP1 connect to CU5 and try to query something. the result is
some query command cannot return for any result that are server on siteB (just some query command)

Problem

EMS on CU5 return very slow result.

EMS on SP1 still ok.

Does anyone face this problem before for CU5??? Please help me figure this out. Thank you

Upgraded Lotus Notes version into newer 8.5 it has complex functionalities. These functions are not easily graspable and it takes long time to understand, I decide to export my data into another (MS Outlook) platform, is it possible, I want new updates about conversion in cost-effective manner. And if yes then suggests me the way?

Hello Friends,

We had been running Exchange 2013 CU2 without issue for some time. Patch CU3 was released, and recommended by Microsoft. The upgrade to CU3 failed, and we immediately called Microsoft Support. We were unable to run Exchange in its current state, we could not uninstall the patch as it had already upgraded our Active Directly Schema making Exchange 2013 CU2 incompatible, and we were unable to get the patching process to complete.

Microsoft Support worked on this issue for three days and nights, before finally getting everything working again and email started flowing once more. However, our Exchange server has never been the same. We immediately noticed strange issues that we have not been able to resolve, such as email delivery delays, an empty mail database that does nothing, yet cannot be removed, and other issues.

Service pack 1 arrived for Exchange 2013 over six months ago. However, we’ve been afraid to update our suspect Exchange server. This update performs yet another schema update, and we are afraid things may break once again.

We thought we might build another Exchange 2013 Server CU3, move all of the mailboxes to it, take down the old server, and then upgrade the new server to Service Pack 1. But, we’re not sure that this process is the best way to go about achieving healthy email functionality,  or if it will even work at all. We cannot afford any more email downtime.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks,

Stephen Barash

Exchange 2013 users unable to access Exchange 2007 Public Folders

$

Hi all.

I've been working on setting up Exchange 2013 in our Exchange 2007 environment.  I've managed to install it, configure it, move a handful of mailboxes, and fix several issues (2013 users being asked to login, free/busy maximum settings mismatch, Autodiscover not really updating the settings in Outlook clients...).  However, I'm stuck on getting Exchange 2013 users to access Exchange 2007 public folders.  Because the new server is very much in a development stage, I can't migrate the public folders over and won't until the mailboxes are thoroughly tested and fully migrated.

According to the public folders FAQ at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150538(v=exchg.150).aspx, it's both possible and impossible to get new users to access legacy folders.

From "Considerations:"

Exchange 2013 no longer supports public folder databases. Therefore, there’s no coexistence with legacy public folders. As a result, Exchange 2013 is unable to read from the hierarchy stored in a public folder database on Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2007 servers.

From "Migrate public folders from previous versions:"

...However, user mailboxes on Exchange 2013 servers or Exchange Online can connect to legacy public folders. Exchange 2013 public folders and legacy public folders can’t exist in your Exchange organization simultaneously....

I did originally start to build the master hierarchy in 2013 before finding this page, but I have since deleted the hierarchy from Exchange and from AD via ADSIEdit.

When a 2013 user tries to access a 2007 public folder, they are met with "Cannot expand the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems of the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (<correct info about the the legacy 2007 server's DN>)"

I've reviewed the RPC logs from the new server and am seeing what looks like a proper redirect command to the Outlook client.  But the Outlook client can't connect to the public folders.

I've tested public folders in OWA and they don't work there.  I've verified that the services are started on both the new and old servers.  And I've used the Outlook Connection Status tool to observe how Outlook seems stuck in a perpetual "connecting" state to the old mail server, even when I'm not trying to access a public folder.

So my question then, is using Exchange 2013 to access Exchange 2007 public folders actually possible or not?  If so, what else can I check to find out why I can't open legacy public folders?  We need to access some of the shared folders for collaboration, and I'm trying to avoid moving the upgraded users back into Exchange 2007.  This seems to be about the last major problem I have before I can start migrating all of the other users.

Thanks!

Alan

PS - Microsoft, please update your Exchange 2013 Public Folders FAQ to clarify if this is possible or not.  You state both in two adjacent sections.

Hi,

Exchange compatibility matrix states that Exchange 2013 is supported in a Windows Server 2003 SP2 Active Directory environment with domain and forest functional level at Windows Server 2003.

How about a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 Active Directory environment... anybody know if that is included too? Thanks !

2007 to 2013 migration - new namespace

$

Hi,

I'm planning an Exchange 2007 migration to 2013 and I'm trying to wrap my head around co-existence scenarios. Our 2007 environment uses the FQDNwww.companyemail.com for OWA (etc) and I'd like to have our 2013 environment use something more standard like webmail.company.com

The MS documentation I've seen deals with retaining/reusing the original FQDN, but can I do a co-existence scenario and introduce a new namespace? Any high-level pointers or advice would be great.

Exchange Server 2013 Outlook Anywhere issue

I am working on an issue with Outlook Anywhere in Exchange 2013 where external users cannot connect. This is a new server co-existing with an Exchange 2010 server that will soon be decommissioned.

When I run an Outlook Connectivity test on testexchangeconnectivity.com I get the following error. I am not seeing anything in the application or system logs. I already applied CU 6 (which was released today) and am seeing the same results. Port 443 is exposed directly to the web (no TMG, load balancer, proxy server, or SSL accelerator). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On a lots of blogs i find that the costumer will have advantages to upgrade the hybrid server (On-Prem) from Exchange 2010 to 2013. Witch advantages is there? I can see that the EAC and the Portal merges better, but is it any other god reasons?

Configuring Autodiscover - SSL Internal Outlook Clients

$

We're just beginning our migration of mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. Many of our users have additional mailboxes in their Outlook. We've found in our testing that if a mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013 and they need to open an additional mailbox still on Exchange 2010, they receive a proxy certificate error in Outlook. Our testing has found that if we configure Internal Clients to "Connect using SSL only", the connections are seamless.

At first we tried a Group Policy to set "Connect using SSL only" on clients but soon found that Autodiscover reset our policy back to not use SSL. At that point I contacted PSS and opened a ticket.

Microsoft told me that the way to do this was to change the InternallientsRequireSSL to $true. In addition we'll need to change our ClientAuthenticationMethod from Ntlm to Basic. Our tests show that doing that will prompt everyone for credentials when they open Outlook.

Has anyone grappled with this one in a migration before?

Exchange 2010 Installation Fails - Hub Transport Role - Been stuck on this for a few days!!

I have a old server running SBS 2003, the second server is 2008R2 so I have promoted it to DC.

I have been trying to install Exchange 2010 on a Server 2008 R2 DC but the installation fails at the installation of the Hub Transport Role, Process failed with exit code -1.

I spent over a week trying to do research on a while goose chase and found that IIS and WPAS can cause these problems after a working server has been promoted to DC, I have tried un-installing both then re-installing with no avail.

Looking at the log the preferred DC and Global Catalog server is the second 2008R2 Server that I promoted to DC, not the Original SBS 2003 machine, could this be causing any problems?

The ExchangeSetup.log shows the following is where it fails:
