How to remove Exchange2003 server record

$

We are providing Exchange 2010 today - in the past it was migrated from Exchange 2003. Now I am prepearing migration to Exchange 2013 - migration proces stopped with error message there is still Exchange 2003 server in configuration. I checked it through Exchange management console and there are realy 2 servers in server summary screen. I did not find legacy Exchange2003 anywhere else in configuration. So I search through internet and found some artical with manual removing old records through ADSIedit tool.
A removed the record from
Configuration\CN=Microsoft Exchange\CN=<Exchange Domain>\CN=Administratice Groups\CN=First Administratice Group\CN=Servers

there was one record with Exchange 2003 specification - so this has been deleted - but in the Exchange console I can still see the legacy Exchange2003 in the Server Summary.

Can somebody point me, what else I should check?

Note: There is still one record in:
Configuration\CN=Microsoft Exchange\CN=<Exchange Domain>\CN=Administratice Groups\CN=First Administratice Group\CN=Routing Groups\CN=First Routing Group\CN=Connection

which it seems define some connection between non existing Exchange2003 and current Exchange2010.

Should I remove this too? Is it safe?

Thanks for any help

TotalMailboxSize and BytesTransferred

Hi all,

I have an issue regarding mailbox moves from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. I moved a mailbox and checked statistics on completion. I know that mailboxes can grow up to 30-40% on migration, but the statistics tell me much more.

There was TotalMailboxSize 923MB and BytesTransferred 2.53GB. I wonder, what's the cause. Mailbox database quota was default by 2.3 GB - so the user wasn't able to send mails anymore. What's the cause for such a size increasement?

Thanks.

Exchange 2010/2013 coexistence, OAB not updating for 2010 mailbox users

Recently I built two Exchange 2013 servers, CAS & mailbox and added them to my existing 2010 organization.  Now, people who HAVE NOT been migrated to the 2013 mailbox server are not getting an updated OAB.  Those on 2013 are getting an updated OAB.

Besides the obvious answer to hasten the migration to 2013, why aren't the 2010 mailbox users not getting an updated OAB?

Thank you,

Chris

Exchange 2013/2010 - Co-Existence, URLs.

Hey Team,

I am sure this is well documented and i for some reason cant seem to get good solid answer. But here is my questions. what are the correct URL settings for (OWA, ActiveSync, EWS) etc for Exchange 2013/2010 in a coexistence scenario?

1) All servers in the same ad site

2) mail. autodiscover, pointed to the 2013 server

3) 2013 server is internet connected.

Am i supposed to clear all the 2010 URLs?, Just the external ones? Use a separate namespace?

Thanks,

Robert

Outlook prompting for password with new Exchange 2013

$

I have Exchange 2007 and 2013.  I want to migrate to 2013 but I'm having issues in the testing phase.  I have a test account that I moved the mailbox to the new server.  I have a test PC with a modified hosts file that points to the new Exch 2013 server IP address.

When I log in with this test user, Outlook appears to connect and download the mailbox.  However a Windows Security dialog box pops up saying Microsoft Outlook Connecting to test@domain.com and it has a username and password field.  No matter what is entered here, it is NOT accepted, nor if forcefully entering the wrong information is the account locked out.

I can click cancel here and it proceeds to update the inbox and then says All folders are up to date.  But at the bottom in Outlook 2013 it says Need password and Outlook's icon in the taskbar has a yellow triangle on it.  I can send myself a test email and I get it (I personally am on the 2007 server), but after it sends Outlook 2013 prompts again for the password, and since it does not accept anything, I have to click cancel.

I have done ALL the windows updates available on this test PC.  Exchange 2013 is on CU6 which is the latest at the time of this writing.

Another thing is in the Lync 2013 client it says "Exchange needs your credentials".  No matter what is entered here, it will not make this message go away unless you click the X on this warning bar.  Lync itself appears to work regardless.

Any ideas?

I just changed the ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod from Ntlm to Negotiage.  Now the Outlook prompt does accept the domain password, but I don't want anyone to have to enter any type of credentials just to get on.  Note, this test is on the same LAN as the servers, so I haven't even tackled an external test yet, though last time I tried it was the same results.

Cannot write email body in OWA with Exchange 2013 SP1 CU6

Hi,

I have a problem with Exchange 2013 SP1 with CU6.

All of OWA user cannot write in the body of email. They can write the Object and the recipient but they cannot select body and write the body message. We have try with multiple Web brother and desactivate all Add-on but the problem still there...

The only way that works is to respond to an email, and in that case, it's working, we can write normally in the body of email.

Have you an idea ?

Thanks in advance!

PF Migration 2007-2013 - Corrupt 'ExchangeV1' folder

$

Hi Everyone-

I'm migrating my PF from 2007 to 2013 and ran into a weird issue.  I've gone through the steps outlined in this guide twice: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

1st attempt: After running through all checks - the initial sync, waiting for 'AutoSuspended' failed because of too many bad items.  Read some more about the error and ended up deleting some old system public folders / public folders that it was had the error on (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555978). I know without a doubt that the cleanup of a previous 2003-2007 migration was not completed.  I chalked it up to that.  I increased the baditemlimit to 20, and resumed the request.  Finally was able to reach autosuspend - locked down PF - and went in to finalize.  After finally restarting the legacy information store, was able to get it to attempt a final sync.  Attached below is the final error.

2nd attempt:  Wasn't sure if the PF's i deleted were sync'd and now causing issues on the 2013 system - went ahead and deleted PF mailbox on 2013, and Migration request.  Unlocked PF's on 2007 - everything came back fine.  Started over again, re-created PF mailbox and started new migration request.  Got to 'autosuspended' almost immediately.  Moved forward as normal, ultimately hitting the same error as attempt 1.

I've deleted all existence of the 'exchangeV1' entities out of the system PF.

Please advise

Thank you!

I've changed the names of my servers - Exchange 2007 = LEGACY2007.DOMAIN.NAME

  Exchange 2013 = NEW2013.DOMAIN.NAME

Has anybody got this product to work yet on a 2012R2 DC server, if I install Client Access Role at the same time on the same machine or install it afterwards on the same machine, I get Access denied when I run Exchange Management Shell, if I do not install Client Access Role I can run the Exchange Management Shell but I am not sure what to do with it or how to configure Exchange with it, I normally use the GUI for administering Exchange, the GUI administrator program or EAC as it is now called is not installed without installing the Client Access Mode.

How can I configure this program without the CAR installed.

This is not an inexpensive program, my customer is doing his nut and I can not get paid until it is installed and working.

I installed on Exchange 2013 environment in coexistence with Exchange 2010.

I installed a wildcard certificate on the Exchange 2013 and added the services IIS and SMTP to this certificate.

I have an outlook fat client which is connected to one test already migrated mailbox.

This client continually popups a security alert if I want to proceed: exchangeserver2013.FQDN

How can I prevent this behaviour before migrating other users / mailboxes?

Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 Migration to Office365 - Free/Busy Not Available

I am migrating from Exchange 2007 to O365 via Exchange 2013 Hybrid.  The Exchange 2013 install was successful, the Hybrid Configuration was successful.

Most mailboxes still exist on Exchange 2007.  Some test ones are located on Exchange 2013, and we have migrated several over to O365.  All of these have worked with no issues.

OWA and OWA redirect to legacy works, A/S works.

During the build of Exchange 2013, the virtual directories were set to the well-know URL (mail.xxx.com)  The Exchange 2007 server virtual directories were set to legacy.xxx.com.

Free/Busy from O365 to Exchange 2013 mailboxes (and Exchange 2013 to O365) work perfectly.

Free/Busy from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007 mailboxes get the "hash marks" for free/busy

Free/Busy from O365 to Exchange 2007 mailboxes get the "hash marks" for free/busy

Free/Busy from Exchange 2007 to both Exchange 2013 and O365 work correctly.

I ran the Free/Busy tool from Test Exchange Connectivity and got this error from ANY mailbox querying against Exchange 2007.

Thanks in advance...

Uninstall or remove Exchange 2013 .vhd and keep the SBS Exchange 2007 running - Please Help

$

Hello All,

I need a bit of help.  I took over a network that was running Small Business Server 2008 with Exchange installed.  I bought a new Dell and virtualized three servers.  One of my virtual servers has Windows Server 2012 and Exchange 2013. After I installed Exchange 2013, I went to migrate some mailboxes from the Exchange 2007 machine (SBS).  When I did, the test mailboxes moved but would not open in outlook. The mailboxes that I need to move are huge and the test box wasn't.

I contacted Microsoft and we could not figure it out.  So I just left all the mailboxes on the SBS Exchange 2007 system. I would like to remove the .VHD that has Exchange 2013 on it.  I am going to virtualize the SBS and then reformat the server that the SBS resides on.  I would then like to install 2012 R2 and Exchange 2007 on that server to migrate the mailboxes and kill the SBS virtual server.

First - Is this even possible?

Second - Can I kill the Exchange 2013 .vhd without any issues?

I don't know if Exchange 2013 has been improved and I should try it again but I am a bit gun shy now.  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Will

Outlook Anywhere - Exchange 2013 /2007 co-existence,certificate upgrade

Hi,

We are in process of migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 Servers.

To meet the migration requirements we have changed the standard single name SSL certificate with UCC Certificate having multiple SAN values using the exchange 2013 EAC wizard. Later on we applied the same certificate to both Exchange 2013 and 2007 CAS servers.

Outlook Anywhere was enabled since long on exchange 2007 servers and was working fine till we made the certificate change. After we make the change of certificate given were the error message we started encountering:

The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process.

Another change which we noticed were of Domain Controllers names in the same AD site as exchange getting added to VALID PORTS key under given HASH:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\RPC\RPCProxy

As per my understanding Valid ports entry is populated with all the mailbox servers in organization only until unless we define DC there, which we never did until now. I can also see values for Exchange 2013 mailbox server there.

And now since Valid ports entry contains reference for domain controller i have to made following registry entry on my domain controllers to make it work :

On the Global Catalog servers: a REG_MULTI_SZ  entry needs to be created on each GC named NSPI interface protocol sequences at HKLM\System\CCS\Services\NTDS\Parameters\ and the value set to ncacn_http:6004

I have tried modifying the Valid Ports entry manually and removing the domain controllers reference from there but then my Outlook Anywhere doesn't work anymore. Yes i know that RPCConfigurator again populate the entry every 15 minutes and i can turn it off,i have tried that but no luck.

Result of the above change now my CAS is directly speaking for my domain controllers which earlier mailbox server was doing through DSPROXY.

Can anyone suggest me what is happening wrong here...given are the environment details:

2 CAS +HUB Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13 server on windows 2003 R2

Exchange 2007 Mailbox Server SP3 RU13 SCC on Windows 2003 R2

Exchange 2013  CU5  CAS + Mailbox Server on Windows 2012 R2

Windows 2003 AD with mix of 2008R2 DC.

Exch 2013 Installation and configuration from a SBS point of view?

$

I was just wondering if anyone has stumbled upon any good "how-to" sites for those of us that (up to now) have been used to using SBS servers but now find ourselves needing to go the manual route with separate new servers (domain controller and Exchange 2013 server)?

I'm trudging along with my first Server 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013 SP1 installation and configuration, but since I'm used to things configuring themselves in SBS, the piecemeal approach to 2013 is presenting challenges for me.

Considering the market for SBS is small business (and for me, typical 20 users), I'm looking for some direction and help in configuring these new servers to act like SBS 2011 replacement servers, with similar capabilites, etc...from the viewpoint of an SBS administrator, per se.

Maybe nothing exists and we have to start from scratch, but I was hoping with as big as the SBS market was, there would be some useful info out there with the realization that we're coming from SBS.

Thanks.

I'm following the procedure as per this Microsoft article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

However at the New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest step (step 5 - migrate Exchange 2010 folders)  I'm getting the error at bottom.  Anybody know what could be causing this?  It certainly seems to be able to access ATLAS.  I've tried using atlas.es.tv, tried using just the name of the PF DB, nothing works.

Is it possible to remove 2010 Hub Transport entirely in an Exchange 2013 environment?

$

I'm using Exchange 2010 Edge Transport in our organization that I've recently upgraded to Exchange 2013. I like Edge Transport - along with our spam filter it is an effective and simple way to send and receive external e-mail - and I don't want to get rid of it.  But it seems like it needs a 2010 Hub Transport server to interact with.

Right now the only other Exchange 2010 Server I have left running in the organization is the one Hub Transport server that interacts with the Edge Server.  Is there a way to undeploy this server too and connect the Edge Server directly to one of the 2013 Mailbox Servers?  Or will this need to stay as part of the organization as a pair with Edge Transport?

I noticed mail flow was running just fine while the Hub Transport server was turned off.  So it seems like it's possible.  But I want to be able to undeploy it safely without hurting mail flow.  Are there any links or white papers that show how best do do this?
