ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory and Interna/External URL

$

I've been reading this blog, in preparation for our Exchange 2007 to 2013 migration. In step 6, the author provides the command:

Set-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory –Identity "e2k7ServerName1\Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync (Default Web Site)" –ExternalUrl $Null –InternalUrl https://legacy.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync

I don't understand why I'm setting up the InternalURL property for ActiveSync. Looking at our existing virtual directory (multi-tenant) we have Internal =https://serverFQDN/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync and External =https://mail.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync. Which way is correct?

Thanks.

EX2013 to EX2013 cross-forest migration

Client has a single-label domain with some problems, and has elected to migrate everything to a new "company.local" AD domain. External domain name will remain the same.

First phase is migrate from old EX2013 to new EX2013. New domain and EX2013 set up and working, bidirectional forest trust and cross-forest DNS is working. Users and computers will remain logged on to old domain/forest until a later phase, after Exchange is migrated. So initially, it will be an account forest/resource forest architecture. Later, servers, workstations and users will migrate to the new domain via ADMT, after which the old domain will go away.

I can find lots of instructions on the web for migrating downlevel Exchange cross-forest to EX2013, but have not found any documentation for EX2013 to EX2013 cross-forest.

Any suggestions? Or failing that, if I follow EX2010 to Ex2013 cross-forest migration instructions, and either use EMS, or mentally "translate" EX2010 EMC instructions to EX2013 EAC, will that work?

The server isnt a Client Access Server

We recently moved over to a 2013 cas server and we are in coexistence with 2010. 2010 clients are working right now, however 2013 users do not work. If you tryand setup the user manually and hit check name, this pops us:

---------------------------
Microsoft Outlook
---------------------------
Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name.  The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

All the DNS, the urls are fine, OA is setup correctly but the "Find Name" and logging in at all fails. When I run the following command though:

[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Scripts>Test-OutlookWebServices -ClientAccessServer mailhub2.domain.org

I get the following

The specified server, MAILHUB2, isn't a Client Access server.
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidArgument: (:) [Test-OutlookWebServices], TestWebServicesTaskException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : [Server=MBOXMPR1,RequestId=abc688a3-a89c-40c2-855b-7d36bb33f5c6,TimeStamp=1/22/2015 11:0

  ebServicesTask
    + PSComputerName        : mailhub2.willowcreek.org

Is this the issue or is this simply not a 2013 feature?

Exchange 2013 on-premises doesn't see Exchange Online profile pictures

Hello!

We are on an hybrid deployment with some users on Exchange 2013 on-premises and others on Exchange Online (Office 365 E3 plan). We have enabled photo sync (PhotosEnabled attribute) in the organization relationship, both on-premises and online, but while Exchange Online users can see all profile pictures, Exchange on-premises can see only on-premises pictures.

It also looks like that online users can see only a low resolution version of on-premises users' pictures.

Do you have any idea how to troubleshoot or fix this, please?

Thanks!

Update Exchange 2013 CU5 to CU7 - Installation Order

$

Hi,

I have a multi-site, multi-DAG, Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 CU5 installation. All servers are multi-role. We are about to commence a server update to CU7 for all of the Exchange 2013 Servers.

What is the Microsoft supported order in which to upgrade the servers?

Can I do the upgrades over a number of nights, does everything need upgrading together, should I do it site at a time or a DAG at a time?

Are there any TechNet articles which explain the supported method? It is important that during the update to CU7 the installation stays in a supported configuration.

Thanks in advance.

2013 Management Tools on DC?

We have Exchange 2013 Server installed on a member server and we are using Symantec Backup Exec 2014 Agent to back it up. Backup Exec is installed on the DC and according the Symantec docs, the Exchange Management Tools must be installed on the Backup Server. Is it ok to install the Exchange 2013 Management Tools on the DC? No other Exchange services will run on this machine. Thanks in advance for any help.

Certificate Errors - Mismatched Address

Mismatched Address

The security service presented by this website was issued for a different websites address.

The problem might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

We recommend that you close this webpage.

Background:

We have an old server that we are replacing with a new physical server. The old server (Svr1) is Server 2003 and Exchange 2007. The new server (Svr2) is Server 2012 and Exchange 2013.

Both servers have different static ip's and are on the same network. Svr1 Exchange certs are from GoDaddy and are expiring next month. I requested Exchange certs from GoDaddy for Svr2 and have installed them. We do not wish to change our mail address so (mail.abc.com) is the same on both servers. I would expect conflict between the servers because of the same mail name, (both servers have different domain names: Svr1.com, Svr2.com). But even if I take Svr1 offline Svr2 will only send e-mail but not receive it. And no matter what I do I still get the error above. Talked to GoDaddy and requested a new cert key but it did not make any difference. What am I missing here?

Cutover Migration to Exchange 2013 On-premises

I have two clients who will be merging their on-prem Exchange
organizations. Different forests.  I've done many cutover migrations to
Office 365 for other clients so I'm familiar with the process.  My
question is:  Is it possible to do an O365-style cutover migration (create migration endpoint, cutover batch, etc.) from
an on-prem Exchange 2010 server to an on-prem Exchange 2013 server using
the same steps?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Migrate Exchange 2010 to 2013 External Mail Flow

$

Dear All,

I am in the middle of Exchange Server 2010 to 2013 Migration. The scenario is I have single Exchange 2010 server with HUB/CAS/Mailbox and installed new Exchange 2013 with single CAS and single Mailbox server. The internal email flow between Exchange 2010 to 2013 and 2013 to 2010 is working. Having some issues and need assistance to resolve at earliest.

  • The issue with the external mail flow and I want to Exchange 2010 should be configured to send external email while migrating users to Exchange 2013. Once migrate all users to Exchange 2013 then will configure Exchange 2013 send connector.
  • How can I configure single name space of web URL for OWA both on Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, if user mailbox is in Exchange 2010 can access same OWA URL as user migrate to Exchange 2013.
  • How to configure SSL certificate, I have single URL certificate this would be enough for OWA, ActiveSync and Anywhere.
  • Is that possible if directly move the Exchange 2010 database to Exchange 2013 database, this will move all users mailboxes in one go or do I need to migrate users mailbox individual or in bulk.

Kindly guide if any thing missing that need to address during start the migration activity.

Thanks in Advance

Exchange 2013 and PF segregation

$

I run a multi-tenant Exchange environment (2007) and I'm putting together our migration plan to 2013. I looks like I can segregate my customers' public folders by creating multiple PF mailboxes (one per customer) and setting the "DefaultPublicFolderMailbox" property on the mailboxes.

Today, I have one PF database. To begin the migration, it looks like I'll need to run a command like:

New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -SourceDatabase (Get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server e12-01.contoso.local) -CSVData (Get-Content FolderToMailbox.csv -Encoding Byte

What I wonder is, how do I migrate only the public folders from one customer at a time, from 2007 to 2013?

Thanks.

Can't enable users for Unified Messaging after upgrade to Rollup 6

Voicemail is still working fine for all users, but users that were not enabled for UM or new users just created come up with envent ID 1677 MSExchange Unified Messaging error in Event Viewer, as well as error if enabling via PS or Exch Control Panel:

Mailbox 'J.Smith@company.com' couldn't be initialized for Unified Messaging: An error occurred while accessing the user's mailbox. Details: An internal server error occurred. The operation failed.

   :59 PM] [FailureCategory=Cmdlet-RecipientTaskException] 367356AE,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Tasks.UM.EnableUMMailbox

I tried on a different Exchange Server in the DAG, same error. Interestingly, if I try again with same command, I get an error about the pin needed to be changed. If I change the pin, I get the initial error again.

I tried restarting the UM services which didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Office 365/Exchange PST Capture Tool not finding mailboxes

$

0

I am trying to use this utility to move the emails/contacts/etc. in some of my local PST files into an email account on Exchange Online (the cloud) through Office 365.

I have set up the "Online Connection Settings" and have connected successfully using the "check" button to my Office 365 global administrative account.

Next I added my PST file using the  "Add from Folder..." button.

The problem is that when I click on "Set mailbox..."( to direct the emails/contacts/etc. to be added to the correct email address in my company) the list never loads, it simply says "The Central Service is retrieving the mailbox data, try again in a moment".

It has been like this for several hours and shows no signs of change.

I need to be able to load .pst files from my old domain into the exchange cloud and NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. This means actually importing the emails, not just adding the .pst file to Outlook.

Please advise why the tool cannot find my company's email addresses and how to fix.

-Joe

P.S: I have already posted this in the Office 365 forums, they gave me the "not officially supported" nonsense and sent me here.

Errors trying to install Exchange 2013 CU7

Hello,

We have Exchange 2013 CU5 and are looking to install CU7. I have downloaded and extracted the set-up files, however when try to run the update I reveive a number of concerning errors regarding Active Directory.

I am aware that the update will require Schema updates, however I thought the GUI installed handled these for me.

Exchange is deployed at a AD site that is not in the same site as the Schema Master. Could this be the issue? Do I have to update the schema manually? The only other thing to say is that we do still have an Exchange 2010 SP3 server in the organisation, however everything (including public folders) have been migrated across to 2013 and is just awaiting decommissioning and un-installing.

Hi,

I'm trying to find out if there is a way for the exchange server to send an email to a user if a Resource Mailbox Room accepts a request.

i.e, i send a meeting request to Boardroom, it accepts it and send me the accepted response but it then emails someone else that a request has been accepted.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

hi,

I am having some issues with Exchange 2013 servers blue screening and having forced reboots. The managed availability is blue screening the servers about twice a week. We have 12 Exchange 2013 serevrs and 8 of the servers have this issue.

I can see in the log events 500 and 502 with managed availability

Recovery Action Started. (ActionId=RestartService, ResourceName="Server name removed", Requester=ActiveDirectoryConnectivityRestart, InstanceId=150122.085108.62160.001, ExpectedToFinishAt=2015-01-22T19:55:08.6216099Z

This is very similar to https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2883203 and i have run the overridewith powershell but it is still occuring.

We are running 2013 cu7 on all the servers and are Windows 2012 R2 virtual servers on Hyper-V.

Installing Exchange on a domain controller?

We are very small business firm like less than 10 people. I planning to setup new server. Initially I thought install AD, DNS, DHCP, DC and Exchange on same server. Microsoft not recommending all in my serverInstalling Exchange on a domain controller is not recommended.

So give me suggestion, Is it OK install everything on server for small company like us? or

create 1 virtual and install Exchange on that server and rest will be on base?.
