Exchange 2007 to 2013 cross forest migration (without AD User object migration)

Hi,

can some try to help with below Q please?

Can migration of mailboxes from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 (cross forest be achieved) without migrating the user objects (using ADMT or any other tool) with a one way trust in place?

and then if the trust is broken will the user objects need to be migrated to exchange 2013 (new forest?)

We are in the planning stages of migrating our Exchange 2007 SP3 RU17 server to Exchange 2013.  Can Exchange 2013 CU10 co-exist with 2007 SP3 RU17?

Why I can not logon a different user's profile created with MAPI over Http?

When I create the user's profile using RPC/HTTP, I can logon this profile with outlook, but I can not logon the same user's profile created with MAPI over Http.

My question is: Is this the limitation for MAPI over Http? the profile user must the same as windows login user? why the credential window didn't popup when I checked the "Always prompt for logon credentials" in profile's setting?

Thank you,

Exchange 2013 SP1 - SSL Offloading Broken?

$

So I've decided to start testing SSL offloading with Exchange 2013 SP1 now that it is supported. I have followed this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn635115(EXCHG.150).aspx. It is fairly straightforward, remove the "Require SSL" option on the VDIRS and IISRESET.

To test, I load up http://CAS/OWA and it immediately redirects to HTTPS://CAS/OWA. I do not see why it is doing this or how to configure it otherwise. So while my server is accepting connections on port 80, it's just bouncing them over to 443. How do we disable this?

I checked the HTTP Redirect option on the VDIRs, which is not present. Also, I am going straight to the server, so there is not a device in front that is redirecting my requests. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Brandon

PST Capture Console Import Error

Hello, we are beginning a client migration this weekend and I'm testing the PST Capture Console tool as recommended by O365. Communications have been set up properly and test good however after selecting the pst file to import and beginning the process. The import fails 15 minutes in with an error of "the agent was timed out in responding to the transfer request". Does anyone have any experience with this?

Public folder migraton (size comparison)

Hi guys.

Migratin PF 2010->2013.

If I take a look of PF DB folder size on 2010 its 38.8 GB, but the migration batch process on ex2013 is already on 48.GB:

On EX2010 (before the migration) I have set: keep deleted items 0 days, and dismount/mounted the db, restarted Information store.

On PF DB on 2013 indexing is currently disabled (to speed migration process).

But I am still wondering where did all that data come (the difference between DB size on ex2010 and the "batch transfered Gigabytes"?

With best regards

After Recreating OWA and ECP I'm unable to logon - The user name or password you entered isn't correct. Try entering it again.

Hi

Having difficulties over the last few days and would be very grateful for some help.

We're currently migrating from Exchange 2010 to 2013 all appeared to be working fine until I installed Rollup 10. At this point I was unable to logon to OWA or ECP all I would get was a loop in the logon process, each time I entered the logon, I got returned to the logon screen.  After fiddling with some authentication settings I appeared to make things worse.

I decided to recreate the OWA and ECP virtual directories and now when I logon I get

The user name or password you entered isn't correct. Try entering it again.

Please can someone help this is driving me mad!

Migrating users from 2007 to 2013 - can no longer manage security groups

I understand that this is because of changes to the way things are done from 2010 onwards?

Not sure if this affects both distribution AND security groups?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2586832

Also, seen this:-

http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/how-to-manage-groups-that-i-already-own-in-exchange-2010.aspx

Is this a way to enable this? i.e. original users able to manage as they did before?

Shared mailbox on 2013 - 2007 users can no longer access

Got a shared mailbox that we've migrated to 2013.

A number of 2007 mailboxes have full access and send as permission. This is reflected in both 2013 web console and 2007 admin console.

Is there any reason why this would not work if the 2007 user tried to send as the 2013 shared mailbox? I assume it should.

I am running into error below when i try to upgrade to Exchange 2013 CU10 on my lab environment.

[ERROR] The given key was not present in the dictionary.

Information on blogs indicate this is because i have Exchange 2016 Preview in the environment. Not sure where to go from here because

Uninstalling Exchange 2016 Preview doesn't seem to resolve issue
Can't upgrade to Exchange 2016 RTM because it requires 2013 CU10

Can't find any information on how to resolve this issue. Below is my environment information in AD which seems to be off because of 2016 preview.

Migration old windows 2003 sbs to windows 2012/Exchange 2013

$

Hi All,

I have a massive dilemma.

Currently we have 2 physical servers.

Server 1 runs windows 2003 SBS and Exchange 2003.
This is also a domain controller.

Server 2 runs Windows 2008 R2 and has a dedicated financial application on it. It is a member server.

Since the server hardware is getting very old, it has come the time to get a new server that will replace these 2 servers.

I am planning to have the free Hyper-V 2012 R2 server (no GUI) installed on it and create virtual machines that will run Windows 2012 R2 server STD and Exchange 2013 SP1.

The problem is that Exchange 2013 server cannot coexist with Exchange 2003 server and Microsoft recommends a double hop migration by using exchange 2010 first and then upgrading to Exchange 2013.

This is too much trouble for a small business that only has 7 mailboxes. Also there would be an additional cost to upgrade to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010.

I read that I can export the mailboxes as PST files and then re-import onto the new exchange server as long as I preserve the X500 attributes. There are no public folders used.

The other problem is to migrate active directory to the new Windows 2012 R2 server using the AD migration tool. Because Exchange 2013 cannot coexist I have to setup a new AD forest, I believe.

But there is a lot of preparation for this to happen.

Does it mean that I will need to first install the hypervisor onto the new server, then create a VM for Windows 2012 to act as a global catalog DC for a new AD forest , then setup another Windows 2012 R2 member server VM to run the Exchange 2013 server within this new forest.

Then I would have to migrate AD ie users, groups, computers, passwords etc.

After that I would need to setup exchange 2013 with send/receive connectors, re-create all email addresses, import mailboxes etc.

This is a nightmare. I cannot understand why MS did not provide coexistence with Exchange 2003 server.

Can someone steer me in the right direction?

Should I install the Hyper-V 2012 server in workgroup mode first, then create my VMs for the new AD forest?

Also can I P2V the windows 2008 server I mentioned earlier and rejoin this converted machine to the new forest?

I have never performed such an operation before and need some pointers and help.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

OWA Redirection from Exchange 2013 to 2007

$

Hi,

I have Exchange 2013 and 2007 running in coexistence and Outlook clients can connect to their respective mailboxes.

I am however going round in circles now with OWA which I am currently testing internally first before rolling out to external users.

I've read and followed various articles and seem to be getting a step closer each time and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction for the final hurdle!

The issue we are having is as follows:

We enter URL of https://mail.mycompany.com/owa which in turn presents the 2013 OWA page.  We enter credentials for a 2013 mailbox user and get straight into OWA no problems at all.

So we do the same with a 2007 mailbox user, enter credentials "domain\user", OWA redirects and presents a second login screen which I can see is to connect to the legacy.mycompany.com/owa site.

However after entering the credentials for the second time, the web page refreshes and takes the user back the original 2013 landing page.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Many thanks

Chris

we got this:

Office 365 Hybrid deployment

$

Way earlier with Exchange 2010 office 365 used to give us an option to modify the remote routing address using Hybrid configuration wizard. Some how the same config has been implemented in my organization not sure who and why deployed it.So currently all the accounts in my org have a different remote routing address instead of xyz.mail.onmicrosoft.com

I need to migrate exchange 2010 servers to 2013 and eventually have to move the hybrid server role on exchange 2013 too. Can someone update/guide me if there is an option available with me to keep the remote routing address as customized and still proceed on deployment of new exchange 2013 servers.
