RBAC authorization returns Access Denied for user - exchange server

$

Hi,

We see quite a lot of eventid's 17 in the application log of our exchange servers.

MSExchange RBAC
(Process w3wp.exe, PID 42320) "RBAC authorization returns Access Denied for user Customer.com//MAILservers/Mailserver1. Reason: No role assignments associated with the specified user were found on Domain Controller DC1.customer.com"

Adding the Exchange server to the "organization management" group seems to fix the error from appearing, but I don't think that's a best practice?

Is this a known issue, or what might be the underlying reason that it starts appearing?

Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-EventTracing Error 2 happens twice at boot EX2013CU7

Not sure what it is.  The server is running Server 2012 R2 and it is a VM.  It has exchange and associated necessary features, roles, and prerequisites and nothing else installed.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Exchange 2013 CU7 3 times and each time this error has been present.  It happens twice at boot and seems to cause no problems.

Exchange 2013 on Server 2012 R2, installation is nearly 2 years old.  Never had any issues at all, have always patched and updated.  Decided CU 10 was old enough now to install, ran the update and it got to the last stage and I found the following error:

Before doing anything to that folders permissions, I installed the latest OS updated and downloaded a fresh copy of CU 10.  Installing that now.

I will roll back to our backup if this fails.  Any ideas?  About to call Microsoft...

Dysfunctional Exchange 2007; Repair or Disaster Recovery

$

I have a dysfunctional (to put it mildly) Exchange Server that is hosted by a WS03r2x64/DC.  This DC hosts all roles of Exchange 2007.  To address some previous hardware issues, we re-imaged this DC/machine onto a new/bigger disc subsystem and did a Repair/Install to facilitate (F6) the needed/new disc drivers.  Afterwards, the said Exchange/IIS problems surfaced.

Currently, there are no AD or network/DNS issues as reported by comprehensive dcDiag/NetDiag testing nor are there any DNS, DS, or FRS error events in those logs.  However, iisAdmin won't run (invalid machinekey) and neither will Exchange Powershell (as is needed to work on the IIS issue).

My first goal is to get this DC upgraded to WS08r2 and to still host Exchange on such.  Budgetarty reasons prevent us from going to WS12 at this time or from properly hosting Exchange.  (We suspect by fall of this year to properly migrate/commission these instances, however, we won't be able to do such before WS'03 becomes unsupported in the next few months.)

So my question is which path do i follow:
  1) Do i pursue a remedy for PowerShell so i can use it to preserve IIS settings for Outlook/web and then rebuild IIS (and get this `03DC and Exchange completely functional before doing the WS08r2 migration)?

  2) Do i just preserve the Exchange db and then install WS08r2 and do a disaster recovery of Exchange (from the preserved db)?  -Is this even feasible?

All comments/suggestiongs are immensely appreciated!

Thanks,
GlennXS

Getting error during readiness check

Hello,

I've installed Windows Server 2016 desktop experience on one of my servers, and also Exchange Server 2016 trial version.  I've installed all pre-reqs, but can't install The Windows component Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra. I used powershell to try to install the module but can't install it.  When I run setup I get the below error.  I've tried different methods but can't get passed this point.  Any help is appreciated.

IOPS for archive mailbox.

Hello!

There are a lot of instruments and articles to calculate IOPS requirements for Mailbox Database. But all of those methods related to main user mailbox and messages per day but nobody says about archive mailbox http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/05/06/ask-the-perf-guy-sizing-exchange-2013-deployments.aspx

I want to use separated mailbox server to host databases with archive mailboxes for my users. I heard in some MS videos that it is possible to use less performance storages for archive mailboxes. But I can’t find any documental proof for it.

So, my questions are:

How can I calculate estimated IOPS requirements for my Archive Mailbox Server?<o:p></o:p>

Can I use less performance storage for it?

Deploying Exchange serve 2013 , Mail Server is running and handling mail. but autodiscover, OWA, etc will not function.

I have a running server, Server 2012R2 Standard with the Essentials options loaded, running IIS, DNS/DHCP / AD and file/print hsares. installed VM - Server 2012 Standard VM , installed exchange, configured and mail is flowing in and out - but functions like Autodiscover and OWA do not work -

simply put, I have been using SBS in the past for several servers/deployments, with no issues. but with exchange on a different server ( ok, a VM running on the main server) I guess I am running into issues I never had to deal with before. I dont think I am too far off but some things are just eluding me.

plenty of help out there for installing Exchange - but they stop once it flows mail or the " complete " icon shows. it is all the other stuff that makes it go that there is limited help for.

Ideas?

Simple question regarding adding a second Exchange server to my organization

$

Here's my situation:

I have one Exchange server (2013) in my current organization, running all roles.  We are looking at migrating Exchange to another physical machine.  Let's say I setup a second Exchange server and make it part of my organization, also running all roles.

My user's mailboxes are still stored in the database on my old Exchange server.  Clearly I will want to migrate those mailboxes to the new server as part of the migration.  My question is, what happens if a user connects to the new Exchange server, either by Outlook 2013, ActiveSync, or OWA, but that user's mailbox is stored on the old Exchange server?  Do they simply receive an error message stating that their mailbox is unavailable, or are the two Exchange servers smart enough to 'figure out' to redirect the user to old Exchange server where his mailbox is actually stored?

The reason I ask is that I want to know how much email service disruption to expect with this migration and how much of it I will be doing after hours.

Problemes updating CU9 to CU10 in step 1

Hello,

i'm having an issue with a single-server 2013 CU9(it was installed as CU9 directly) when trying to update to CU10 in step 1 i got:

Error:
Se ha generado el siguiente error cuando se ejecutó "$error.Clear();
install-CannedAddressLists -DomainController $RoleDomainController": "Microsoft.Exchange.Data.DataValidationException: El parámetro ResourceAddressLists no puede tener más de un miembro.
en Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.ADDataSession.Save(ADObject instanceToSave, IEnumerable`1 properties, Boolean bypassValidation)
   en Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Deployment.InstallCannedAddressLists.PostOrganization(ADObjectId resAl)
   en Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Deployment.InstallCannedAddressLists.CreateCannedAddressList(String name, QueryFilter recipientFilter)
   en Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Deployment.InstallCannedAddressLists.InternalProcessRecord()
   en Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.<ProcessRecord>b__b()
en Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.InvokeRetryableFunc(String funcName, Action func, Boolean terminatePipelineIfFailed)".

excuse the spanish, it essentially says that ResourceAddressLists can't have more than 1 member.

after this Exchange stopped working, mail flow stopped completely, smtp gave service not ready, etc etc, i had to re-reun the setup and then it started working( a reboot wouldn't fix it).

what's going on?, am i better off with running the CU10 adprepare and the domainprepare manually before launching the CU10 setup itself?

Migrated to new ISP and now my OUtlook has registry issues.

I switched ISP from Network Solutions to GoDaddy. I run Windows 8.1 and Office Pro 2013. In the Control Panel I deleted all three email accounts in order to reinstall the same with the new provider (after I made a pst. backup). I restarted, opened Outlook and all of the old emails are there, although there are no new ones coming in. From within Outlook and through the Control panel I tried to add the same (new ISO) email addresses. I have a Microsoft account and with my new ISP I signed up for Office Essentials. The ISP tells me I have registry issues. When I attempt to add an account I get the following message: "The action can not be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." My computer is online and I concurrently opened my Microsoft account in my browser (not that I expected that to do anything). All passwords are correct and nothing seems to work. The ISP provided this page for me: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2264398. I was unable to sign in to get directions on how to save the Registry (even though I can sign on to my Microsoft Account). Now Outlook won't open at all. Help!

I certainly appreciate any help I can get.

Mailbox will not migrate from 2010 to 2013

I receive the below message when attempting a MoveRequest from my 2010 server to my new 2013 server.  I have successfully moved other mailboxes after seeing a similar message and restarting the MRS.  I have tried the same with this mailbox move and it doesn't resolve.  There isn't anything in the event viewer that points me in any direction.  I have rebooted the target and source servers.  I have run the MoveRequest from the PSShell and the console both return the same results.  Any ideas or help would be great as I'm stuck and don't know why this mailbox is not moving or what I can do to resolve "unfavorable server health".

Informational: The request has been temporarily postponed due to unfavorable
server health or budget limitations. MRS will attempt to continue processing
the request again after 9/18/2015 6:53:36 AM.

Search on SAM Account Name in Offline Address Book

$

Hopefully a simple question someone can answer for me.

Within our environment alias does not match SAMAccountName. When using OWA or Online mode, typing in the SAMAccountName into the To field will happily find the user from what I understand by using Ambiguous Name Resolution (ANR).

Unfortunately when using Cached mode, and thus the Offline Address Book, this doesn't work. Is there a way of enabling SAMAccountName searching within the OAB? I am aware we can force cached mode to use the online address book for searching, but that kind of kills the point of Cached Mode and the OAB.

Environment is Exchange 2013 Enterprise currently at CU9

Cannot reinstall Exchange 2013 after Command Line uninstall

I am sure there is some uninstall step that I have missed.  This is a new Exchange installation with no prior install.  The server is 2012 R2 and there are two DCs with 2008 R2.  I was having the error:

Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Error "Unable to set shared config DC."

I found a thread that said to activate IPv6, which I did.  That did not work, so it then said to uninstall using the command line. Now I get the following error when trying to reinstall Exchange 2013:

I would be very greatful for any assistance.

Thank you.

I was looking at the Exchange Back End Site binding and in one of the sites I looked at it said that you can backup the setting, I cannot find how to do this. I may have changed a setting and now am unable to see the mailboxes in the Exchange Admin Center. Need help ASAP.
