Exchange 2013 CU11 and CU12

$

During Exchange 2013 upgrade to CU9 was required to use commands:

setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

setup.exe /PrepareDomain /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Are they all needed also during upgrade to CU11 or CU12?

Cannot Access EMS After CU9 Update

I upgraded our two exchange servers to build 15.0.1104.5 and afterwards I cannot get into the management shell on one of them. Everything else seems to be working fine like the ECP and I'm able to manage it through EMS through the other server. Below is the error message I'm getting and I have found very little on it when searching. I would appreciate any assistance.

Public folder migration - Exchange 2007 to 2013

Trying to figure out which method to use.

This article, which specifically references Exchange 2007 to 2013 migration, has a Caution on it saying that you should use batch migration:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

HOWEVER, this article, which is the only one on batch migration that I can find, refers only to migration from Exchange 2010 to 2016:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn912663.aspx

Can anyone tell me with certainty which one I should use?

Thanks,

Migrating from Exchange 2013 to Office 365

$

Hi Guys,

I have 2 on-premise servers running exchange 2013 server roles. I just subscribed to Office 365 E3 plan and have setup directory sync on one of my AD servers. Now I intend to migrate mailboxes to office 365 and decommission the on-premise exchange servers.

What are my options for doing this? Must I configure exchange hybrid before I can accomplish this? I really would not want to go through the hassle of setting up a hybrid deployment specially since the on-premise exchnage servers will be retired once the migration is completed.

Appreciate your advise and references like always.

Cheers ..

Upgrade Exch10 to Exch13 - Coexistance issues

Hi,

I'm upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013, i already did the intermediate step to upgrade 2003 to 2010, the 2010 server is up and running since few weeks.

I'm actually upgrading 2010 to 2013 server, i prepared the schema and AD, installed the new server, created a new test mailbox and it working fine.

I'm able to manage using the exch13 ECP. Though the ECP i can see all servers, databases...etc.

I noticed that i'm not able to send emails from account located at the Exch13 database to accounts located at Exch10 database and vice versa.

I did some diagnostics, i noticed that when i'm runing the command Get-MailboxDatabase i can see only the database located at the exch10 server, i cant see the exch13 Database. In the ECP both databases are visible.

I tried to add the argument -IncludePreExchange2013 to the command but i got an error.

Please find atached the screenshots.

I think that this is the cause of my inter-server communication problem, as my environement cannot access the EXCH13 database.

I'm doing research since 2 days now trying to fix this issue without result.

Can you please help?

Best regards.

Exchange Distribution List (DL) & Mail Contact Migration

Hi,

We are in progress of Migrating of our existing Exchange server from 2007 to 2013. Right now first part of migration is completed. Now we are in progress of migrating the users mailboxes from 2007 to 2013 server, hence we do have both servers on production as coexist (exchange 2007 & exchange 2013).

In my exchange 2007 server we have many DL's and Mail Contact which was created already. I do want to know, Whether I have to migrated theDistribution List (DL) & Mail Contactmanually to my new exchange 2013 or will it automatically get migrated to new one from old exchange 2007 ?

If I need to migrate all the DL's and Mail Contacts manually to my new exchange 2013, please let me know, best and easy practice to do this process.

Thanks

Exchange SP1 Edge Transport Install Error

Hi everyone,

I've successfully installed multiple Mailbox and CAS 2013 SP1 servers into an existing Exchange 2010 environment.

However, when I get to the Edge Transport role on a separate server, at step 7 of 9, it throws the following error:

Error:

The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
new-ExchangeServer" was run: "Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: Cannot get child of ADObjectId:	this is a GUID based ADObjectId.".

Any ideas what could be causing this? I haven't been able to find anything of significance while searching around...

Thanks!

share cross forest free/busy information between Exhange 2010 and 2013 no trust

Testing in lab environment, share free busy information cross forest with one Exchange 2010 in Forest A and one Exchange 2013 in Forest B.

Got GalSync working with FIM2010

Followed https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msukucc/2013/11/27/cross-forest-freebusy-in-untrusted-forests/ and a lot of other tutorials. Even read all what can be read on this topic ( I think)

cross forest autodiscover is woking fine in both domain's as tested with "Test E-mail Autoconfiguration" in Outlook 2010 with no certificate errors.

But when adding a calendar from a user in the other forest, Outlook prompt's for a password.

Can someone please advice? Please let me know if you need more information.

Splitting Exchange Org

I have an Exchange 2010 on premises organization with about 80 mailboxes. I'm planning to migrate half of these mailboxes deeemed "mission critical" to O365, and leave half of them on premises. I'd like to perform this as a cutover migration, and at the same time, rename the on premises domain something like "@corp.contoso.com", with the O365 mailboxes continuing to use simply "@contoso.com" (which is our existing domain). What are the basic steps to accomplish this? I can complete the cutover migration, which will grab all mailboxes, but then I expect I'll just add the domain as an accepted domain in the on prem server, change the recipient policies to use the new domain name as default and apply to all local mailboxes, update mx/autodiscover records for new domain. Is that about it?

All users physically on the same LAN as this exchange server and in the same AD domain will be looking to O365 for their mailboxes, and all remote users will be looking to the on-prem server for theirs. What is necessary to make this work correctly? Just change the autodiscoverinternaluri record to point to o365?

CU12 Installation

I have 2 Exchange 2013 CU7 servers that function as Hybrid Servers for our Office 365 environment. I'm preparing to upgrade Exchange 2013 from CU7 to CU12. I have read numerous articles on the upgrade process but wanted to pose a few questions.

My upgrade from CU3 to CU7 was a disaster. One server upgraded without any problems and the other failed and required a call to MS Support. Come to find out there was a problem with 2 connectors that were configured as Hub Transports and not Frontend transports. Once that was resolved the upgrade was restarted and finished successfully. This is the type of problem I want to avoid on the CU12 upgrade. There are 2 connectors that are still configured as Hub Transports even after the CU7 upgrade on one of my servers. Do these need to be reconfigured to Frontend Transports prior to the CU12 update? If I do reconfigure them, will this have any adverse affect on mail flow?

Is there a tool that can be run against the servers to--similar to a pre-requisite check that the Setup does--before running the update? I checked my Schema version and MESO Version and they are the same from CU7 up. The organization Object version changes from CU7 to CU12. I did read about the KB that may cause the upgrade to take 50% longer but I have verified that KB is not installed on my servers but from the release notes I read on the 250 Hello Blog, do I need to apply the .NET Framework workaround “%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\ngen.exe update"?

Thanks.

Exchange 2010/Exchange 2013 Coexistence

$

We have a unique scenario in which all Exchange 2010 clients have no access to Exchange externally and have to be connected to the VPN in order to make a MAPI connection to the CAS Array. There is currently no OA configured on any of the Exchange 2010 servers nor is there a namespace configured. We plan on installing Exchange 2013 CU12 into the organization. We plan on creating a net new single namespace of ex. mail.contoso.com to configure OA on the Exchange 2013 servers. The clients are connecting via outlook 2010 and outlook 2013.

The question is do we need to enable OA on the Exchange 2010 servers if they have never used it before?

I've found the following:

"However, if you are not currently using Outlook Anywhere in your Exchange 2007/2010 environment and you don't want to start using it, then you don't need to enable Outlook Anywhere in the legacy environment."

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123741(v=exchg.150).aspx

Once we introduce Exchange 2013 to the environment and start migrating the mailboxes will they automatically connect to Exchange 2013?

Exchange 2010 - 2013 migration - OWA not working with error "This page can not be displayed"

Would appreciate some advice on how to resolve the below issue

I am preparing to migrate an Exchange 2010 infrastructure to 2013. My test setup is a small scale setup of our production environment consisting of two Exchange 2010 servers and two Exchange 2013 servers, both instances are multi-role.

Mail and connectivity to the Exchange 2010 servers is fine , 2010 OWA access is fine using https://mail.domain.com/owa .

I've followed guides and have prepared the Exchange 2013 servers. I can access Exchange Administrator Console on new 2013 servers using https://localhost/ecp and OutlookWebAccess again via https://localhost/owa. I have followed guides setting the virtual directories to the correct internal and external url in preparation for switching DNS to point to new Exchange 2013, all settings look OK.

After changing the DNS record to point to one of the Exchange 2013 servers instead of Exchange 2010 server I am unable to browse to https://mail.domain.com/owa on the Exchange 2013 server or any client machine. The error displayed in the web browser is "This page cannot be displayed" But I can

I have notice when you enter https://localhost/owa then the browser is redirected to https://localhost/owa/auth/logon.aspx?replaceCurrent=1&url=https%3a%2f%2flocalhost%2fowa . This doesn’t happen when I enter https://mail.domain.com/owa

Any advice on how to resolve this issue? Thanks

Can't access migrated public folder from a single user

Hello,

I've succesfully migrated all mailboxes and legacypublicfolders to new pfmailbox from Exchange 2003 to 2010 and then to Exchange 2013, and removed the old servers. All is now on a single Exchange 2013 server.

All seem's to work for all users except for a single user, who can access his personal mailbox but cannot access public folder hierarchy.

I've recreated the Outlook profile on his pc and tried a completly new profile on another pc, but it's impossibile for him to access the pf hierarchy on the Exchange 2013.

Via the Outlook Test Automatic Config and looking in the mailbox properties via get-mailbox cmdlet, I've seen that ONLY this user still has the old ExchangeGuid 4f34f807-37e0-401a-901d-8a6af0436f86@.....it instead of the new one.

Probably that was the ExchangeGuid of the intermediate Exchange 2010 server that doesn't exists anymore...

What can I do?
