O365 exchange server data replication restriction

$

I am using Skykick migration tool to migrate client from hosted exchange to O365. Since the recent O365 exchange server degradation since May 18 2016, migration had taken a turn. I have pending migration mailbox that still migrating after the switch to O365. Eventual Server health show it is fix, but Skykick inform that Microsoft had limited data replication into O365 and it continues to have connection drop to O365 exchange server. Which resulted in the delay in completing the migration. Skykick claim that this is not just for my client but many tenant being impacted.

I want to see if anyone having this similar issue in migrating to O365.

Thanks.

John

Exchange 2013 - Adding remote SCP into Forest using Export-AutodiscoverConfig

$

We have an exchange 2013 environment and are merging an acquisition into our system. We are configuring a resource forest an additional Exchange system for the new users and have gotten to the point of adding the SCP for the resource forest into the user forest.

I ran the Export-AutodiscoverConfig command and see the new entry using ADSIEDIT. I have not seen an increaser in response time for the new users creating new Outlook profiles.

Looking at the SCP information in ADSIEDIT, i see that the ServiceBindingInformation is LDAP://NewDomain.com
Well, we have the new resource forested vaulted from the rest of the network and do not have LDAP open form ALL to the NewDomain DCs.
As an alternative, can I change the ServiceBindingInformation to the AutoDiscover URL, which is open to the New Exchange?
or do I need to open LDAP into the resource forest DC for ALL on our network?

If an HTTPS URL is an acceptable alternative, would that be the correct address, or should I use
 HTTPS://autodiscover.NewDomain.com/autodiscover/autodoscover.svc
or something I haven't thought of?

Thanks

Tom !

Certificates needed for migration from Exchange Server 2013 to Office 365

Hi to everybody,

We have to migrate (cutover migration, around 30 users) from Exchange Server 2013 to Office 365. In support office web site it is said that we need certificate that is not selfsigned for this migration to happen. What kind and what CA we should buy certificate form just to do that. I hope it is not specific Exchange SSL because it is around 300$ and usual SSL certificates could be bought for 10 to 50$.

And if you have some good links for this migration please send.

Thank you in advance

Hi Guys

I have migrated all mailboxes from Exchange 2007 SP3 RU11 to Exchange 2013 CU10.

I then started the migration of public folders by followning this MSDN article.

During Step 5 I while trying to execute New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest cmdlet Iget this error.
Do someone got any toughts about this?

I'm trying to create a new address list using the following command.

New-AddressList -Name “My_AL” -RecipientFilter {((RecipientType -eq "UserMailbox") -or (RecipientType -eq “MailUniversalDistributionGroup”) -or (RecipientType -eq “DynamicDistributionGroup”)) -and (CustomAttribute1 -eq “MyOrg”)}

The system returns an error "Exception setting "RecipientFilter": "Invalid filter syntax" I cannot seem to figure out what is wrong with the syntax. Any help is appreciated.

Exchange internal vs external authentication

$

Configuring the diverse Exchange virtual directories I know it is best practise to use split-dns and same url for internal url & external url.
So for my installation I have setup all internal & external urls to exchange.contoso.com
For "SSO" I have enabled NTLM on vdirs and outlook anywhere for internal authentication
But I also see there is an "external authentication" we can configure.

1) 1st question, is it wise to keep internal & external authentication on vdirs the same and what is most common configuration (keep the same)?
2) 2nd question, when do we need to configure external authentication and when does Exchange use external authentication?
3) If we have a KEMP/TMG/F5 reverse proxy device for external user access does Exchange consider them "external"?
4) And if we just load balance the Exchange servers internally with NLB and use NTLM, should we keep internal & external authentication the same?

Creating subdomain, and migrating some mailboxes to O365, while leaving some on-premises

$

I have an on premises exchange organization (Exchange 2010, around 100 users) where I would like to migrate about half of the mailboxes to O365, and leave the remaining half on premises. After the migration is complete, I'd like the O365 mailboxes to retain our current domain (@domain.com), and change the on premises mailboxes to @field.domain.com. I'd prefer to use a cutover migration to accomplish this if possible. I don't care about these two sets of mailboxes being in the same organization. Most of our internal users will be looking to O365, and most of the remote users will be looking to the on premises exchange server.

How can I best accomplish this? It seems like I would need to reconfigure autodiscover for the on premises mailboxes, and probably update other records as I expect our internal outlook clients will be looking to AD for autodiscover information.

Can I accomplish this in this way, and if so, what records in Exchange and AD will I need to update to allow these clients to find their mailboxes, after I've migrated the selected mailboxes to O365?

Journaling for e-mail disabled, still receiving journals for that user

i'm currently having an issue with an exchange 2010.

i've set up journaling rules for some users using the "hub transport" => "journal rules"

but one user, that i didn't set any rules for, all his internal mails get forwarded to the e-mail i setup for journaling.

i checked all the rules, mailbox journaling and so on but i cannot find any reason why these interal mails for that one user get journaled.

i've added a rule just for that user and disabled the rule to no succes. does anyone have any idea what i can do to further troubleshoot this issue?

Security Update For Exchange Server 2013 CU11 (KB3150501) Failed

Hey Team, Happy Monday :).

KB3150501 - "Security Update For Exchange Server 2013 CU11"

On Saturday 18th at roughly 3:30am the Windows Update KB3150501 failed to install.

Event Log: Error - MsiInstaller - 11712 - Product: Microsoft Exchange Server -- Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found.  Restoration will not be possible.

All Exchange services stopped and disabled.

Attempted to download and install this update manually, produced an error almost straight away.

Event Log: Error - MsiInstaller - 1024 - Product: Microsoft Exchange Server - Update 'Security Update for Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 11 (KB3150501) 15.0.1156.10' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Windows Installer can create logs to help troubleshoot issues with installing software packages. Use the following link for instructions on turning on logging support: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=23127

I then found all disabled services via this log "C:\ExchangeSetupLogs\ServiceControl.txt" and re-enabled and started them, and have my Exchange back, it appears 100% functional.

I would like to get this update installed and problem resolved. I am not sure which files error 11712 is talking about. No changes to OS or file system, etc.

SFC /SCANNOW did not find any integrity violations.

CHKDSK C: found no problems.

It successfully installed the following Windows Updates at the same time.

Mailbox Migration Issues

Hi,

I have 2 exchange 2013 server in 2 different domains in the same premise. I have created a trust between both the domains for forest wide authentication. I am trying to migrate a user mailbox from one domain to another. I have followed the following steps for migration of the mailbox.

1. run the preparemoverequest script for preparing the mailbox migration.

2. Used the admt tool to migrate the SID of the user from the one domain to the other.

3. Once i start performing the mailbox migration from the Exchange 2013 EAC it gives me an error saying "remote move request recipient isn't a mailbox".

Any help would be highly appreciated

Exchange certificates and SHA256

$

Hi All,

I need to deploy a SAN certificate for Exchange 2013 using SHA256 as a signing algorithm, the structure has an internal standalone CA. I have been looking around and these are my findings:

1. If you create a CSR request from Exchange it will create an SHA1 request

2. You can create a SHA256 request from Windows certificates mmc using CNG but then OWA and ECP won't work because Exchange 2013 doesn't support CNG keys

Now I was about to:

A. change the signing algorithm on the CA

B. create a SHA256 request from a Linux machine using OpenSSL

I can't believe there's no other way using only MS products, but if there is I couldn't find it.

Any Idea?

Thanks

A.

Blank screen after logging into OWA, and ECP/ Unable to use PowerShell. Reset IIS Settings

So everyone,

I am hoping someone can make sense of what I did here.  I am trying to deploy my first email server for my company.

I got the installation complete, created the send connector, created virtual directory's and then left the server alone for a few days. I

I came back to a broken exchange server.

I think I did something in either ECP or IIS that broke everything, but I can't seem to find a fix that works.

Background:

Windows server 2012 R2 valid with license but constant issues activating properly

Exchange was deployed and activated with valid product key

Followed a ton of articles about changing the certificates, reset IIS, etc. None of them have worked

Tried to reset virtual directories, but unable to log into PowerShell

Server is in a virtual environment

I have not purchased a valid SSL cert and won't until we deploy live

Here is the error from PowerShell

Exchange 2016 - Linked Mailboxes

I could not find a location to ask about exchange 2016, so asking here as it also relates somewhat to 2013.

We have 2008 functional level forest with Exchange 2013.  There is a trust to a 2003 functional level forest and users in that forest have linked mailboxes on the exchange 2013 server.

Now migrating to Exchange 2016.  I'm trying to find out if the users on the 2003 functional level domain will still work as linked mailboxes when upgrading to Exchange 2016.  Documentation on this scenario appears to be non-existent currently.  The 2003 forest is only an account forest, effectively using the 2008 forest as an exchange resource forest.

Thanks,

Matthew

Remove on-prem exchange '13 will delete attributes in AD

I’ll get some issues when I try to migrate our own on-prem exchange 2013 to O365.

We’ve got an Exchange 2013 on the same VM like our domain controller. Also I want to use Azure AD Connect to sync all settings, attributes and informations (like distribution lists, contacts, profile information etc).
I configured the AAD already successful and got all information in my O365 enviroment.

The issue is when we’ll remove/uninstall the on-prem exchange that we’ll loss some attributs like proxyadresses, mailnickname etc.

Do you have any idea how we can migrate our enviroment and using Azure AD-Connector?

Migration SBS2008 Exchange server -> 2013

Hi!

Currently we are planning to migrate our SBS2008 server to a 2012R2 DC with a seperate Exchange server (2013, eventually 2016).

As I'm preparing to do the first migration, to Exchange 2013, I was wondering:

ATM the Exchange server (on the SBS machine) is working as primary Exchange server.
Is it possible to install the Exchange 2013 machine, without taking over all the tasks?

Since i'm just in the preparing phase, I don't want to actually migrate right away.

Hello All,

I just upgraded from Exchange 2010 to 2013, i have actually both servers running in coexistance.

After a mailbox migration, i'm no more able to configure my outlook nor my mobile ActiveSync for that account.

Attached, the screenshots for the Outlook configuration errors.

I think it will be a certificate related error, but i'm not able to identify the main cause.

Any help?

Best regards.

EMail enabled security group Migration

I've almost completed a Exchange 2010 to 2013 migration. I've moved all mailboxes to the 2013 server and all SMTP traffic (printers, UPS, etc...) I also upgraded the Distribution lists.

Now I've suspended the "Submission" mail queue in 2010 to see what is still trying to send though 2010. (I tried to disable the transport service but then I couldn't open the mail queue when disabled, is there another way?)

There are several email enabled security groups that are still in use and email is still routing though the 2010 box.

How do I get these to use the 2013 server?
