Hi,

I am try to get information from Exchange 2013 logs for machines using smtp.Company.com to send emails. right now we have a DNS alias SMTP.Company.com resolved to load balancer and then load balancer send those requests to 4 backend Exchange 2013 Servers.

I am trying to block SMTP anonymous access and before remove this I want to identify all the servers using SMTP.Company.com to send emails to avoid outage.

if there any way I can identify those individual servers. I checked protocol logs on my server ..Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\ProtocolLog\ both SMTPRecieve and SMTPSend. I don't find one of my server which send email very night and early morning. all its showing is the IP address of the Load balancer.

Any help on this is appreciated.

Thanks

New Exchange 2013 (CU13) Install- failing after prepareschema, preparead and preparealldomains succeeded

Our organization is going to migrate from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 CU13. We are going to change our exchange topology by installing hyper-V virtual 2013 servers at each location and setting up a DAG so the locations can fail over to each other if need be. The first site has no exchange server there any more- there were two 2010 servers (Mailbox and CAS) but they were properly uninstalled and no longer show up in the Exchange organization. I also cleaned up and removed any other extraneous servers that may have previously failed or been uncleanly removed- I was able to do all cleanup using Exchange installation tools and did nothave to use ASDI Edit or Schema Management to accomplish any of these tasks- We have a pristine environment. The first Exchange 2013 server is now ready to install. I ran setup.exe /PrepareSchema, setup.exe /PrepareAD, and Setup.exe /PrepareAllDomains. All completed successfully. Then I went to install Exchange. When it got to Organization Preparation 1/9, it failed. Here is the error:

Error:

So to me it looks like Exchange is trying to run the prepare steps again and failing because everything is prepared already. How do I get past this- Is there a switch that tells Setup to skip this step?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I have an exchange 2013 server on a VM.

However, I noticed something very odd, I noticed this from ECP. I see the client access role and the hu transport toles are on a VM that is powered off! And not being used.

Two things, how do I move these roles onto the exchange 2013 VM and how on earth is exchange working with this configuration?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I have a confusion with my Current set up and I hoping someone can help me solving this Issue. so I have running exchange server 2010 Environment and I have also smart Host for exchange server for the outbound Mail flow and For In bound mail flow we are using a Virtual web server (Sophos) which is routing the Traffic to internal Exchange client access server.

and Recently I have introduced Multi role Exchange server 2013 to my Environment.

steps which i have already Done

  • Configure the Auto Discover
  • Configure the Certificate and services with Correct Namespaces.
  • Configure all the Internal and external Client access name Spaces.
  • Configured the New Mailbox Databases.
  • Testing the server Configuration.
  •  Create new Exchange mailbox on the Exchange server 2013.
  • I have checked the Send and receive connector set up and they are automatically Set us they Should be.
  • Made auto-discover test and as well as the sent and receive emails.
  • All seems to be working with New exchange 2013 mailbox

I have question about how is this Working , my Interface Facing server is still the Exchange 2010 server and what should i do to make sure that Exchange 2013 Works as Internet facing server and then it can down Proxy to Exchange 2010.

I hope I have made my Self clear , please guys any tip will be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Team, Happy Monday :).

KB3150501 - "Security Update For Exchange Server 2013 CU11"

On Saturday 18th at roughly 3:30am the Windows Update KB3150501 failed to install.

Event Log: Error - MsiInstaller - 11712 - Product: Microsoft Exchange Server -- Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found.  Restoration will not be possible.

All Exchange services stopped and disabled.

Attempted to download and install this update manually, produced an error almost straight away.

Event Log: Error - MsiInstaller - 1024 - Product: Microsoft Exchange Server - Update 'Security Update for Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 11 (KB3150501) 15.0.1156.10' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Windows Installer can create logs to help troubleshoot issues with installing software packages. Use the following link for instructions on turning on logging support: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=23127

I then found all disabled services via this log "C:\ExchangeSetupLogs\ServiceControl.txt" and re-enabled and started them, and have my Exchange back, it appears 100% functional.

I would like to get this update installed and problem resolved. I am not sure which files error 11712 is talking about. No changes to OS or file system, etc.

SFC /SCANNOW did not find any integrity violations.

CHKDSK C: found no problems.

It successfully installed the following Windows Updates at the same time.

POP3 SSL / TLS not working after certificate installation...

$

Hi all,

The other day we renewed our 3rd party certificate on our Exchange 2013 server.  During the renewal I bound the new cert to the various services (POP, IMAP, IIS, SMTP) and made sure the bindings in IIS were set to point to the new cert.

I've come to find out that since doing this, POP3 SSL connections stopped working.  I used the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer to attempt a connection and it failed.  The failure happened when theMicrosoft Connectivity Analyzer tried to obtain the certificate.  It wasn't able to obtain the remote SSL certificate and spit out this error:

"The certificate couldn't be validated because SSL negotiation wasn't successful. This could have occurred as a result of a network error or because of a problem with the certificate installation."

With that said, I've double and triple checked the various settings for the certificate to make sure it's valid and bound to the POP service and the user account is enabled for POP and restarted the POP3 services.  I've also made certain that the port (995 in this case) is open and accepting connections from the server in question (it is).  Just for kicks, I tried to re-key and re-install the cert again to no avail.  I also ran the Get-PopSettings cmdlet and saw that SSL bindings are correct, LoginType is SecureLogin, and the X509CertificateName is set to the right certificate.  Yet even after restarting services, this problem persists.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolving this?

Can't migrate Public Folders from Exchange 2010 to 2013

I'm following the procedure as per this Microsoft article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

However at the New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest step (step 5 - migrate Exchange 2010 folders)  I'm getting the error at bottom.  Anybody know what could be causing this?  It certainly seems to be able to access ATLAS.  I've tried using atlas.es.tv, tried using just the name of the PF DB, nothing works.

The local domain needs to be prepared using Setup /PrepareDomain before server roles can be installed

Hello Everyone,

I've been installing Exchange servers since Exchange 5.5. I'm now installing Exchange 2013 with SP1 that will coexist with one Exchange 2010 SP3 server. I'm installing it on 2012 R2 Enterprise Edition. There is a root domain and one child domain. The Exchange Server is in the child domain.  Even though I've run the .\setup PrepareSchema, AD and domain and all were successful I still get the message below when running Exchange setup. If I look at what /preparedomain does it seems like it has done what is needed. I've run the /prepareschema, /preparead and /preparealldomains in the root domain & have even run /preparedomain over and over in the child domain. Like I said everytime I run these they are successful. Oh and my account belongs to all the right groups needed to run these. Any ideas would be appreciated!

The local domain needs to be prepared using Setup /PrepareDomain before server roles can be installed.

We are running Windows SBS Server 2011 with Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 on the same box (non virtual). I have been trying to run the latest rollup RU14 and can't get beyond this error. ( I have tried earlier RU packages, downloaded new copies of RU14 - same error code each time they are run)

Here is the error message:
"The installer encountered an unexpected error while installing this package. This may indicate a problems with this package. The error code is 2771."

In the event log there are 2 MsiInstaller entries: Events: 10005, 1023

10005
"Product: Microsoft Exchange Server -- The installer encountered an unexpected error while installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2771. The arguments are: AdminTools, ,   "

1023
"Product: Microsoft Exchange Server - Update 'Update Rollup 14 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 (KB3151097) 14.3.301.0' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Users\netadmin\AppData\Local\Temp\1\MSI8348.LOG.  "

I have run the RU from a command prompt with verbose logging and have the log file. In looking at it, I'm not sure what to look for.  Attached is the log file.

Has anyone successfully worked through this issue? Any thoughts on what I need to do here?

Thanks, DLP

Hybrid Deployment, Migrations and Database Size

We have Exchange 2013 in a Hybrid deployment with Office 365.  When we migrate mailboxes to Exchange Online, does that free up space on the local Exchange database?

Anything we need to do to reclaim that space?

Team,

We are had recently migrated mailboxes from lotus to 0365. Few 100 mailboxes we want to keep onpremises. Please let us know how we can migrate from lotus to exchange on premises  with out any downtime. Do we required Quest co existence manager or any native tool.

Note : mailbox which we want to migrate is application mailbox so we don't want free/busy services only my concern is to migrate mailboxes from lotus to exchange 2013 on premises.

We have Exchange 2013 in a Hybrid configuration with Office 365.  Some mailboxes are still in onsite Exchange, but we want all new users created to start with their mailbox in O365.

What is the correct way now to create a new user in AD / Exchange / 365?

Create the user as normal, then migrate to O365?  Create the mailbox directly on O365?

The critical property 'Database' is missing in the ADUser object 'Contoso.net/Users/Username'

Any Suggestion, how to fix this issue?

name space vs certificate requirement

Hi There,

I have build one Exchange 2016 on-prem and also registered a trail version O365 for my learning purpose.

my name space is mail.domain.com , therefore OWA URL: https://mail.domain.com/owa & OA name space: mail.domain.com

my autodiscover internal URL is currently set to: https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

my autodiscover external URL is currently set to: https://mail.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

I have a public DNS A record mail.domain.com pointing to my reverse proxy and I'll do SSL offloading at reverse proxy.

Following are my questions,

1. Will I be able to manage the third party SSL certificate with just single SAN entry , mail.domain.com?

2. or do I need to compulsory have autodicover.domain.com in my certificate SAN entry?

Exchange server 2013 CU7 - RelinquishedWlmStall While importing PSTs into the mailboxes

Hello,

I'm trying to more than 5 import psts into the mailbox server Exchange server 2013 CU7. Only 1 is active and rest all are in the state of RelinquishedWlmStall.

StatusDetail: RelinquishedWlmStall

Message: Informational: The request has been temporarily postponed due to unfavorable server health or budget limitations. MRS will attempt to continue processing the request again after

I have other two servers exchange 2013 with SP1, there are no issues on those servers.

All the three servers are in DAG and if the database is active on CU7, i'm facing issues. I guess some changes were done on WLM level.

I have increased the values in the MRS configuration file as below and restarted the service, still facing the issues.

Do we have to change the WLM App settings? Resources are huge: 64GB RAM, octa core processor.

Exchange is limiting it somewhere, how do i change it? Its only on-premises exchange server no hybrid.
