Is StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1 on Exchange 2013 enough to put into maintenance mode ?

$

Hi!

In Exchange 2010 you ran StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1 to put the server in maintenance mode but now when reading blogs about this on Exchange 2013 it seems like running a few commands is the way to go instead of the script provided by microsoft.

From this blog he uses these commands:

Set-ServerComponentState E15MB1 –Component HubTransport –State Draining –Requester Maintenance
Redirect-Message -Server E15MB1 -Target E15MB2.exchange2013demo.com
Set-ServerComponentState E15MB1 –Component ServerWideOffline –State InActive –Requester Maintenanc
Suspend-ClusterNode –Name E15MB1
Set-MailboxServer E15MB1 –DatabaseCopyActivationDisabledAndMoveNow $true
Set-MailboxServer E15MB1 –DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy Blocked
Set-ServerComponentState E15MB1 –Component ServerWideOffline –State InActive –Requester Maintenance

http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-installing-cumulative-updates/

So my question, what method should I use ? both? Is the script and these commands doing the same thing ?

Thanks!

Migrating off Exchange 2010 Hub Transport to Exchange 2013 Edge Transport

Can I run an Exchange 2010 Hub Transport along side of an Exchange 2013 Edge Transport? I want to phase out my 2010 Hub Transport but want to do it slowly. I know I can route inbound mail through both of them, but will I be able to configure my Exchange 2013 Mailbox server to route to them both, perhaps with the Edge Transport getting priority? Once I see mail flowing successfully, I'll pull out the 2010 Hub Transports.

How to setup admins for seperate OU's in Exchange 2013, so that each OU's admin can only see the recipient's and groups for their particular OU?

$

Good evening,

Let me first say that I have some experience with Exchange 2013, but I am by far no expert. I have setup Exchange 2013 as a multi-tenancy mail server. Currently we are hosting email for 4 separate companies on a single server. Everything is setup and working great, however we recently found an issue that I am trying to resolve.

We would like to setup one or more users from each OU to serve as admins for their particular OU. Their purpose would be to create/modify recipient mailboxes and distributions groups. The purpose for this is so that someone from each company can login to the ECP and manage ONLY the recipients and groups for their particular OU, while the other OU's recipients and groups are not visible to them. We want these admin users to be able to manage recipients within their OU ONLY, without any knowledge of the other OUs.

The problem is when we setup a user as an admin and grand them permissions under the admin role policies, each admin can see ALL of the OUs, ALL of the recipients on the server, and ALL of the distribution groups. Of course, that allows any admin, regardless of which company they are with to view ALL recipient email addresses, etc. and that is what we are trying to change.

At this point, I don't know how to proceed. I read a similar post in these forums where the only response was to use a third party application to accomplish this, but if that is truly the only solution, which third party app COULD accomplish this?

Migrating UM from Ex2010 to Ex2013. Following "Upgrade Exchange 2010 UM to Exchange 2013 UM". Can't get ExportUMPrompt to work.

I've tried the sample in the Upgrade Document and the sample in the technet for Export-UMPrompt.

Export-UMPrompt -PromptFileName "welcomegreeting.wav" -UMAutoAttendant MyUMAutoAttendant set-content -Path "e:\UMPromptsBackup\welcomegreeting.wav" -Value $prompt.AudioData -Encoding Byte

and

$prompt = Export-UMPrompt -BusinessHoursWelcomeGreeting -UMAutoAttendant MyUMAutoAttendant set-content -Path "d:\UMPrompts\BusinessHoursWelcomeGreeting.wav" -Value $prompt.AudioData -Encoding Byte

Niether of these work and I am at a loss.

I am in the UM Management Group. I run the PS as administrator.

I also noticed that typing: Export-UMPrompt -Busin (then hitting tab will not complete the parameter).

Any assitance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Does the September 2016 exchange security patches apply to 2013 cu7?

The security bulletin specifically mentions SP1, cu12 and 13, but not cu7 (and others). Does this mean the excluded cu's are not vulnerable?

Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 - Intermittant MSX2013 to MSX2007 mail delays due to DNS lookup failure for Default-first-site-name

$
0

Hi,

I had a couple of other posts open for issues with mailflow during AD upgrade, but thought this needed a new post.

Essentially we have a single domain in a single forest. Three sites (main office and two remote offices), the main site containing 2 x 2008R2 AD servers, 2 x MSX2007 servers (Primary and SCR Target) and 2 x MSX2013 servers in a DAG. The remote sites each contain a 2008R2 DC only.

This has been in place for probably a year (slowly slowly migrating) and seems to work reasonably well. We were decommissioning some old AD servers and at around this time I noticed mail flow issues, mainly from 2013 to everywhere else.

I've made entries in the MSX2013 hosts files for each others IP addresses, and created a new receive connector on one of the MSX2007 servers for Exchange Authentication so that both MSX2007 machines can talk Exchange Auth.

This has fixed most of the problems, but from time to time one of the MSX2013 servers shows the queue with a next hop domain of 'Site:Default-first-site-name' begin retrying with the last error of"451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: DNS query failed with error InfoNoRecords"

The queue will contain messages from people on MSX2013 mailboxes to people with MSX2007 mailboxes.

Usually after 15 minutes, the queue empties and the messages send.

I see solutions such a using smarthosts for the affected domains (eg. if mail gets like this when sending to gmail.com) but I am not sure what I would do for an AD site.

Does anyone know what might cause this or where I could check for more information?

Thanks

Possible Impact on Standalone Servers

Hello All,

We have a couple of servers which are NOT members of DAG. But they have few Databases mounted on them and these database have 'Journaliing' Mailboxes.

We are going to install CU13 on these servers now. As a part of this activity, I am going to put the exchange components into maintenance mode and they will be in maintenance mode for about 3 hours.

Can someone tell me what could be the possible impact ? I know the database won't get dismounted when we put the exchange components into maintenance mode but with all the exchange components 'INACTIVE' could there be impact to the mail flow to these Journaling mailboxes or the other applications interacting with these Journaling mailboxes (We have Enterprise Vault interacting with these mailboxes all the time) ?

Thank you guys in advance,

Incomplete mailbox after failed migration

We are migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. A migration batch with 8 mailboxes was left running overnight, but failed because of a disk full condition. Only one mailbox was completely migrated, and the database was left unmounted.

The database was mounted again after the disk partition was expanded.

The remaining 7 mailboxes were left untouched in the Exchange 2007 server, but now we have 7 incomplete "mailboxes" in the Exchange 2013 database. These mailboxes are found by a Get-Mailboxstatistics command, but not by a Get-Mailbox command.

A new migration batch with one of these mailboxes fails after some time, with the following error:

Error:MigrationTransientException: Cannot open mailbox /o=ABC/ou=Exchange Administrative Group ‎(FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)‎/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=SERVER-2013/cn=Microsoft System Attendant. --> Cannot open mailbox /o=ABC/ou=Exchange Administrative Group ‎(FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)‎/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=SERVER-2013/cn=Microsoft System Attendant. --> MapiExceptionMailboxQuarantined: Unable to open message store. ‎(hr=0x80004005, ec=2611)‎ Diagnostic context: Lid: 55847 EMSMDBPOOL.EcPoolSessionDoRpc called [length=132] Lid: 43559 EMSMDBPOOL.EcPoolSessionDoRpc returned [ec=0x0][length=240][latency=31] Lid: 52176 ClientVersion: 15.0.1178.4 Lid: 50032 ServerVersion: 15.0.1178.6004 Lid: 23226 --- ROP Parse Start --- Lid: 27962 ROP: ropLogon [254] Lid: 17082 ROP Error: 0xA33 Lid: 26937 Lid: 21921 StoreEc: 0xA33 Lid: 27962 ROP: ropExtendedError [250] Lid: 1494 ---- Remote Context Beg ---- Lid: 50608 Lid: 32848 dwParam: 0x14 Lid: 61416 StoreEc: 0xA33 Lid: 56872 dwParam: 0xFE Lid: 42712 StoreEc: 0xA33 Lid: 10786 dwParam: 0x0 Msg: 15.00.1178.000:SERVER-2013 Lid: 1750 ---- Remote Context End ---- Lid: 26849 Lid: 21817 ROP Failure: 0xA33 Lid: 26297 Lid: 16585 StoreEc: 0xA33 Lid: 32441 Lid: 1706 StoreEc: 0xA33 Lid: 24761 Lid: 20665 StoreEc: 0xA33 Lid: 25785 Lid: 29881 StoreEc: 0xA33

MSExchangeIS 9660 Warning on Source Exchange 2010 Server?

$

Hello,

Running into a strange issue with a customer that was migrated from Exchange 2010 (running on SBS 2011) to Exchange 2013.  All user mailboxes have been moved and reported success, except for one one old Journal Mailbox on the Exchange 2010 Server.  The event log on the Exchange 2010 Server is generating the following event repeatedly however:

Source: MSExchangeIS

Event: 9660

Task: Logons

Description: User <NULL> (<NULL>) failed to sign in because their mailbox is in the process of being moved.

Any idea why this event would be thrown.  Is it because I still have that single Journal Mailbox on the old database, and have already moved all the other mailboxes including the arbitration mailboxes to the new server?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Failure installing SP3 on Exchange 2010

Good evening,

Following TechNet closely I'm currently in the process of moving my exchange 2010 environment to 2013.  I have single exchange server on a SBS 2011 box.  Sadly I've failed at the first hurdle installing SP3, the result is that my Exchange 2010 is refusing all client connections.

During the SP3 install I passed all prerequisites but during the actual upgrade it failed at the Hub Transport Role with the following error:

receive connector in exchange 2013 server enviroment.

Hi Guys,

I need some help with the receive connector configuration in Exchange server 2013 and exchange 2010 environment.

I have migrated my Exchange environment from ex2010 to ex2013. i have 2 exchange 2010 server and 2 exchange 2013 server.

EXchange 2010

EX2010A : Client access (Was before the Migaration)

Ex2010B: Hub Transport and mailbox Server.

Exchange 2013

Ex2013A : Multirole server.

Ex2013B : Multirole Server. (Currently the Client facing server through Sophos Firewall.)

and i have configured the DAg as well between the Ex2013A and Ex2013B server , all is working fine and normal and now i also want to remove the legacy server (Ex2010 servers.)

but there is some question i am having about the receive connector. I didn't create any New Receive connector on the Exchange 2013 Server's. I have these by default created 5 Receive connector.

and i have these default receive connector on my Both Exchange 2013 Server.

in the old exchange 2010 Hub transport server i also had some other Hub transport receive connector.  for example.

SMTP-Proxy connecter. since my firewall is acting as the proxy for the emails so i wanted to created a smtp proxy connector which is allowed to receive the emails from the firewall but when i create the new hub transport server i get these warning.

I have these question:

1: Do i need to create the new receive connector before i remove the legacy exchange server ?

2: I also need to create some connector for the Post-fix server to send some alerts to exchange recipients. but i again receive the same error message's

3: what else i need to check before i can remove the legacy server.

thank you so much for the help in advance.

mailbox migration from On-Prem to Cloud

Hi ,

Is this following equence correct when migrating mailbox from On-Prem to O365?

1. create a new user account in O365 and do not asign a license.

2. create a migration bath and migrate the on-Prem mailbox to cloud

3. Once the migration is completed, the on-prem mailbox will be coverted as mail-enabled user object and the mailbox is migrated to O365.

4. now asign the license to O365 user account.

Simply put. I inherited a complete mess on the Amazon Cloud. The thing is a damn nightmare. (actually two boxes not in a DAG environment)

Is there a procedure to actually move exchange 2013 from one box to another?
We are looking to try and move the setup to another box at our physical location.

any thoughts or guidance would be deeply appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if it's possible to integrate/setup DKIM and DMARC with Exchange 2013

I've already setup SPF, but would like to do more.

NOTE: I don't want any 3th party software installed on my server.

Kind regards,

Justin
