E2K10 to E2K16 inter org migration and calendar sharing

$

Hello !

I'm currently planning for a migration from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2016. As a POC, I build the target Exchange Server 2016 in a separate Active Directory forest (customer wants to build a new AD because the old one is suffix less !).

Regarding the Active Directory migration, I'm using ADMT, Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 and New-MoveRequest cmdlet. I'm able to migrate a mailbox from one organization to another, which is great. Transport is working (I shared the SMTP domains). However, the customer would like to share the calendar between both organizations with all details (not only free/busy).

My question is: is it possible to share the same SMTP domain through Microsoft Federation Gateway ? Sounds weird! And it does the job, is it possible to share all details from the calendar events ? Maybe I should use ILM or something like that ?

Many thanks !

Outlook clients report a Certificate name Mismatch after an SSL Certificate is added to an Exchange Server

I am getting ready to migrate to Exchange 2013.  I recently installed a wildcard certificate in our exchange 2007 server. Everything is working correctly externally via OWA. However, some (not all) of my internal outlook clients are getting the error message described in the following article: http://kb.stonegroup.co.uk/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=208

I have configured splitbrain DNS so that both mail.domain.com and server.domain.local both resolve to my internal IP address: 192.168.1.50.

I have verified that everything listed under the solution section of the article is correct.  I have tried rebuilding the outlook profiles on the client PC's but still no luck.

Any thoughts?

How to pass Basic Auth credentials to a receive connector on a 2013 or 2016 Edge Server?

$

Hi,

I have been googling this and reading the reference of how to create connectors for more than 2 whole days.

We are going to upgrade our exchange 2010 edge servers to 2013 or 2016.

We need to configure receive connectors on these edge servers using BasicAuth to get authenticated with our postfix smart hosts.

I have successfully done this via EMC on 2010 edge servers. And here comes the problem that no EMC are available on 2013 or 2016. And you can't create receive connectors on Edge servers with ECP either.

The only way to achieve this seems to be powershell commands.

So far I can create the connectrors with the following command:

New-ReceiveConnector -Name “postfix smarthosts” –Server EX2K13EDGE02 -Usage Custom -Bindings 0.0.0.0:25 -RemoteIPRanges 10.115.166.51-10.115.166.55 -MaxMessageSize 50MB -SmartHostAuthMechanism BasicAuth -PermissionGroups AnonymousUser

And how can I pass the credentials to the connector?
I have also tried the following commands:

$CredentialObject = Get-Credential
New-ReceiveConnector -Name “postfix smarthosts” –Server EX2K13EDGE02 -Usage Custom -Bindings 0.0.0.0:25 -RemoteIPRanges 10.115.166.51-10.115.166.55 -MaxMessageSize 50MB -SmartHostAuthMechanism BasicAuth -PermissionGroups AnonymousUser -AuthenticationCredential $CredentialObject

But no luck. it seems the parameter -AuthenticationCredential isn't available.

It really makes me pull my hair out.

I really hope anyone can help me on this.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2013 CU7 update to CU14

$

First question is can I jump directly from CU7 to CU14 or do I need to do this in stages (i.e. 7 to 10 then 10 to 14)

Second question is related to the process. The last time I installed a CU was when I went from 5 to 7 and this needed a schema extension and a lot of work.  Is 14 the same or is it a straight install?

I know the mailbox servers need updating first, followed by the CAS servers. We do not have an Edge server so that is not a concern. The Exchange servers are all Server 2012 R2 VMs running on VMware. The domain functional level is 2008 R2 with all DCs running 2008 R2, the DCs are a mixture of physical and virtual.

Exchange Hybrid in a multi sites scenario

Hello

Client has two active-active sites with Exchange 2010 multi-role servers and Internet access at both sites. We don't want that the move mailbox to Exchange Online uses the WAN. I would like to know if we need hybrid servers on both sites or if only one Hybrid server is needed?

The informations are not really clear when we read about the placement of hybrid servers in a multi sites scenario. It seems that placing a second Exchange hybrid is only needed when we need to meet high availability requirements.

Thanks

mailbox migration from On-Prem to Cloud

Hi ,

Is this following equence correct when migrating mailbox from On-Prem to O365 in Hybrid scenario?

1. create a new user account in O365 and do not asign a license.

2. create a migration bath and migrate the on-Prem mailbox to cloud

3. Once the migration is completed, the on-prem mailbox will be coverted as mail-enabled user object and the mailbox is migrated to O365.

4. now asign the license to O365 user account.

My confusion is whether the point no 1 and 4 are correct?

.ost and .pst problem - how to migrate from IMAP to POP

Am changing an employee's email to POP from IMAP, but can't import the old .ost file to retrieve older emails. I already deleted the old IMAP account and created the new POP. The old .ost file is still there, I just can't open it or retrieve any messages. Even tried recreating the IMAP account and renaming the old .ost to the new .ost file name, but that just produced an error. Any thoughts?

2007-2013 Public Folder Migration - backup after PublicFoldersLockedForMigration?

$

We are about to migrate our public folders from 2007 to 2013.  We want to take one last backup before we do so, but we don't want to lose any data to changes once the migration starts, so of course part of the process is to do "PublicFoldersLockedForMigration". Can I do that, *then* backup the Public Folder Database?  That way any email going to mail-enabled Public Folders will queue up, and users can't change the content directly until it's unlocked after the migration.  We're backing up with Backup Exec and want to retain object-level restore, will "PublicFoldersLockedForMigration" impact that?  Any other suggestions on how to do it better?

Thanks.

Resolving Exchange 2013 FBA login "loop"

$

My customer is affected by the Forms-based authentication problem described in this TechNet blog article:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/jasonsla/2015/01/15/the-one-with-the-fba-redirect-loop/

Specifically, installing a new SHA-2 based certificate causes OWA and ECP logins to 'loop' back to the login prompt even when correct credentials are supplied. The customer is running a single instance of Exchange 2013 CU 10 (build 15.0.1130.7).

I confirmed we're affected by the issue described because running certutil -store my [certificateSerialNumber] against the new cert receives a reply of "Provider = Microsoft Software Key Storage Provider", when in fact what Exchange supports is "Provider = Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider".  In other words, it's a KSP-based certificate, and apparently Exchange 2013 FBA expects CSP-based ones.

Here's what doesn't make sense.  We use an SSL certificate supplied by a third party CA (NameCheap/Comodo). That being the case:

1) Does his solution require us to go back to our third party provider, and get a reissued certificate?  If so, what do I ask for?

2) Or can I use certutil as he describes, to "import the certificate into a CSP"?  In other words, does running certutil -csp "Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider" -importpfx <CertificateFilename> work if you're NOT running your own in-house CA, and using a third party provider like Namecheap/Comodo/GoDaddy?

3) Will that command work against .cer files, or do they need to be in another format?

4) Is there a simpler solution to this, e.g. installing the latest cumulative update, which is CU 14? Or does Exchange 2013 FBA still not support KSP certificates?

I've tried to re-register exppw.dll following instructions in the TechNet forums but this hasn't helped to restore functionality or complete the SP3 installation.  Any guidance would be most appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Ews:The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized in Exchange 2016/2010 co-existence

Hi Team,

I have deployed Exchange 2016 with 2010 in co-existence. Everything works fine: outlook, owa, activesync, autodiscover, etc. However, EWS seems to not work at all. I have already followed: Client connectivity in Exchange 2016 co-existence env blog. The Namespace is pointing to Exchange 2016. However, still the issue persists. I get credential prompts while opening the ews url: https://namespace.domain.com/ews/exchange.asmx. Also, using a ews editor, i get this: The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

So, I tried to connect to the ip and fqdn of the individual exchange 2016 server instead of the namespace. It works as expected. Also, ews editor works. What could be the issue? Please suggest.

Hosted Exchange 2010 to Hosted Exchange 2013

Hi,

Let me explain our current setup.

We are running two hosted exchange. Exchange 2010(10 domains) and Exchange 2013 (15 domains).

OWA URL of both exchange are different.

We migrated almost 5 domains from E10 to E13 successfully without any issue but whenever user send an email to internal user (same domain) or reply old email, they receive below error:

IMCEAEX-_o=domain_ou=Exchange+20Administrative+20Group+20+28ABCDEFGHIJH+29_cn=Recipients_cn=test+20testbec@test.com
Remote Server returned '550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; not found'

I resolve the error/issue by putting X500 address in email address but my question is how we can avoid this error?
Like i need to move rest of 5 domains but i don't want to receive above error as users start curious that why they are not able to send an email. This happen only internal domains (hosted on same exchange server) or same domain. Outside emails are working fine.

I already delete/remove cache (auto correct) email addresses but user still receive above error until I include X500 address.

Any Solution or thought?
