Exchange 2013 Action Items or Bing Maps Apps pointing to wrong URL

$

Hi,

I have an issue with the Exchange 2013 Apps that appear both on OWA and Outlook 2013.

When there is an app active on an email, like Action Items or Bing Maps, and I click on it, it is pointing somewhere that is not the correct address, shows me an error on OWA or in Outlook.

I noticed that the Get-App command shows for example the iconURL pointing to our old owa address. We don't have this address anymore on any OWA/ECP/EWS/Autodiscover/ActiveSync Virtual Directory on any of our exchange servers, not as an external or internal URL.

Where is this information coming from and how can I change this?

I am assuming this iconURL information is the reason why this apps are not displaying anything on the Outlook/OWA.

Thanks in advanced for any help on this matter.

Eduardo.

Public Folder Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 (local)

Hello, all;

We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, all in-house.  We have moved the mailboxes and are trying to migrate the public folders.  There are a lot of public folders.  So many folders.

We've followed the appropriate steps here:  http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/migrating-public-folders-exchange-2013-part1.html

When the migration starts, it gets to about 59%, and then the status turns to FailedOther with a FailureType of TimeoutErrorTransientException

Need Exchange 2013 CU1 download

Our company took over an existing Exchange Server 2013 with CU1 installed as well as an interim update KB2874216.

Before installing any newer Exchange CU, the interim update KB2874216 has to be removed.
However to remove it, the installer needs the Exchange 2013 CU1 install files to be able to uninstall the KB.
The problem is that I don't have the CU1 files anymore and it's not available anymore at Microsoft.
Does anyone have an CU1 download resource to help me out?
Thanks in advance, I'm really desperate..

Kind regards,

How to block zip files

$

A client of mine got a ransomware virus by opening a zip file attachment. They're paranoid about this happening again. I don't see that there is a way to block zip file attachments at the Exchange 2013 server level. I've spent quite a bit of time with transport rules, but have been unable to actually block zip file attachments.  I'd like to find someone else who has done this and see a step by step how-to on how to do it.  Thanks!

Possible setup/migration scenario

Hi all

I have a Exchange 2013 setup with one Mailbox server (MB01) and one Client Access Server (CA01).

MB01 crashed last week, and still have some issues (oof and inbox-rules not running automatically)

Is it a possible scenario, to create a new/extra MB server and move users to that server ?

Is there anything I shall pay extra attention to ?

Exchange server 2013 CU7 - RelinquishedWlmStall While importing PSTs into the mailboxes

Hello,

I'm trying to more than 5 import psts into the mailbox server Exchange server 2013 CU7. Only 1 is active and rest all are in the state of RelinquishedWlmStall.

StatusDetail: RelinquishedWlmStall

Message: Informational: The request has been temporarily postponed due to unfavorable server health or budget limitations. MRS will attempt to continue processing the request again after

I have other two servers exchange 2013 with SP1, there are no issues on those servers.

All the three servers are in DAG and if the database is active on CU7, i'm facing issues. I guess some changes were done on WLM level.

I have increased the values in the MRS configuration file as below and restarted the service, still facing the issues.

Do we have to change the WLM App settings? Resources are huge: 64GB RAM, octa core processor.

Exchange is limiting it somewhere, how do i change it? Its only on-premises exchange server no hybrid.

Cross forest migration

Hi Experts,

One of our customer is looking to go for cross forest migration when they keep same smtp domain on both the forests.  As Microsoft do not recommend the cross forest migration with the same smtp domains, we planned the following:

The new solution that we will be proposing is still use:

  • Linked mailbox approach and ADMT to migrate SID history
  • User moves to resource forest will get a new email address as their primary email address.
  • Autodiscover will be configured for both SMTP domains so that when the user moves their mailbox, they will be able to find their mailbox and authenticate.
  • For a user that has been moved that has their new email address and they need to send an email outbound to the internet, there will be an address rewrite required to change it to the original email domain outbound.

Could you send us references on how to configure or explain:?

  • Share Calendars
  • Free/Busy Information
  • Global Address List
  • Public Folders
  • Edge Server requirement for address translation to and from internet.

Please advise. Many thanks.

Using and Monitoring Receive connector SMTP Client Frontend

Hello!

I'm migrating to Exchange 2013 and I'm configuring a relay smtp connector.

I've read I can use the Receive connector <SERVER>\Client Frontend <SERVER> for an application sending email via smtp using starttls with a valid Exchange user.

It works fine for internal sendings but it doesn't work when I try to send to external users.

I don't know how to monitor mailflow. I've tried the command Get-messagetrackinglog but it's not very friendly and I don't understand what's happening.

How can I monitor what happens with de email?

Is there a friendly tool for monitoring mail flow and Exchange?

Thank you very much

Configuring Exchange Distribution Groups

$

Here is my situation.

We have a number of distribution groups.  Some of these groups grant permission for senders external to our organization to send email to those groups.  Also, discussion often occurs in these groups where users will select "Reply All" to a message received on the distribution group to post their reply back to everyone on the group.

Our problem is that our "send only" external contacts do NOT need to receive any messages posted to the distribution group.  As things stand now, it works like this:

1.  External Contact 1 sends an email to Group 1

2.  Employee 1 selects reply all to External Contact 1's message and types some comments.

3.  In the To field in Outlook, Group 1 is listed as a recipient.  External Contact 1 is ALSO listed as a recipient.

In step 3, we want a way for External Contact 1 to NOT appear as a recipient when selecting reply all.  It'd be best if we could do this without writing custom transport rules, but we are able to go there if there are no alternatives.

Exchange 2010 SP3 RU13 with eXchange 2016 CU3 and Adding new Exchange 2010

this is the part of co-existence. I believe I read but can't fin the article. I believe once you extend the scheme from Exchange 2010 to Ex 2016 and in that co-existence mode if u want to introduce more Exchange 2010 you can't install nay new Exchange 2010 but u can only do Exchange 2016.

Correct me if I am wrong and please post the URL for any TechNet resource or from Exchange team

Hello everyone,

I'm kind of a newbie with powershell so I have a question I'm hoping you can help:

-I want to be able to import in to  folder "migration" with 2 pst files and be able to import the contacts and notes as well.

All I've got is:

New-MailboxImportRequest -mailbox user@domain.com -FilePath \\Server\Folder\file.pst -TargetRootFolder migration -IncludeFolder contacts, notes - But this would import only the contacts and notes I belive.
I wanted the full mailbox structure under "migration" but contacts and notes merged into the new mailbox.

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks.

Deploy additional mailbox servers and DAG

$

Hi,

Currently we have 1 DAG with 4 Exchange 2013 mailbox servers all located within a single datacenter and a single AD site.  Each mailbox server has 4 copies of mailbox databases. We are running low on the disk storage so we are planning to add 2 more mailbox servers and delete some of the copies in the existing servers.

However since there is no more storage resources in the datacenter where the existing servers are so we have to build the 2 new mailbox servers in a second datacenter which is in a different AD site.  The bandwidth between the 2 datacenters is very high speed.

What is the best practice or recommendations for this scenario?  Should we add the 2 new MB servers to the existing DAG or create a new DAG for the 2 new MB servers?

From what I understand, there is a single point of failure if we add the 2 new MB servers to the existing DAG.  If we go this way, what can we do to avoid the single point of failure?

If we create a new DAG just for the 2 new servers, are those 2 servers enough or should we add more?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is Scenario:

Site A> 2 Exchange 2010 Servers + 1 New Exchange 2013 Server (MB & CA)

Site B> 2 Exchange 200 Servers

DAG Configured for 2010 Servers only.

I have installed Correctly the 2013 Server with CU14, All Services started.

I didn't add the Exchange 2013 to DAG

I Successfully moved Mailboxes from 2010 to 2013, Owa login is ok.

But no send/Receive of Emails

is it mandatory to add 2013 in DAG? I don't think so.

May i get any further information regarding Send/Receive Connectors Configurations?

One of the errors is: "You must be a member of the 'Organization Management' role group or a member of the 'Enterprise Admins' group".

I have two domains, domain "A.local" and domain "B.local". Domain A.local is also the forest of the two domains A.local and B.local. I want to install the exchange serverrole on a server in the B.local domain but the problem is that I couldn't find a security group "Enterprise Admins" in domain B.local. So I can't add the administrator to B.local to the Enterprise Admin group.

Network Load Balancing on Exchange 2010 migration to Exchange 2013

$

Hi Team,

I would like to ask a solution regarding Network Load Balancing on Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.

Let explain a my existing infrastructure. We have 2 Mailbox role Servers and 2 HUB CAS roles. Microsoft NLB is configured between two HUBCAS servers.

We are planning our exchange to migrate 2013 planning to have same number of servers 2 Mailbox and 2 CAS role servers in those CAS servers would like to implement NLB on those.

How will it work ?

Since there is a virtual IP 'IP1' for 2010 Exchange which will distribute the load, how I can achive smooth and best practice for migration.

1.Since we already have NLB on Exchange 2010 is there any option to migrate NLB to new servers with same IP address and MAC address ?
2.Do we have to create new NLB for Exchange 2013 with new virtual IP, if yes will my URLs ip will gets changed ?
3.Do we have to add (Windows 2012 r2 STD exchange 2013) both CAS servers to be added into OLD NLB 2010 exchange and remove OLD exchange 2010 Hosts once migrationis completed servers for decommission ?
4.What would be best practice to achieve smooth migration.

So that we can plan accordingly.

Exchange 2016 CU3 mailbox move from Exchange 2010 SP3 UR14

$

We have a brand new E2016 CU3 install coexisting with Exchange 2010 SP3 UR14.  The client used is Outlook 2010 14.0.7173.5000.  When we move mailboxes from E2010 to E2016, the Outlook client is not able to connect to the mailbox.  From all the research I've done, the issue is similar to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3097392, but that does not fix it.  If I leave everything alone, after a couple hours things just start to magically work.

I've tried multiple tests at this point, each time getting a little more aggressive with the steps:

  1. Recycle the MSExchangeAutodiscover app pool
  2. Recycle the MSExchangeRPC app pools (Proxy and frontend)
  3. IISReset

We've given ample time for AD replication and other changes to happen in the background, but we are still unable to get the existing Outlook profile to connect.  We receive an authentication prompt, which will never accept the credentials.  OWA and Activesync both are functioning properly after the mailbox move.  A brand new Outlook profile works.   I went wild last night when things weren't working and restarted all the Exchange service to no avail.

I'm running another test now to see if its possible I've corrupted the default outlook profile by getting them in a funked state before "things" update in Exchange/AD.  To test that I'm performing a move, wait for AD replication, IISReset, and then try re-opening Outlook to see if Autodiscover works.

Creating a brand new mailbox or Outlook profile works fine, so Autodiscover is working properly.

Any ideas before I open a case with PSS?

Regards,

Tom
