Skipping several CU's - good idea, bad idea?

$

Good afternoon, all!

I have gotten behind on my CU's for Exchange 2013. I'm on CU9 and want to get to CU 13 (Policy and bitter experience indicate DONT RUN THE VERY LATEST!) but in the past, skipping too may CU's led to painful results.

Best practice in this case: do a gradual upgrade to get to the desired CU level, or download the desired CU and go for broke? After following all the directions, of course!

Thanks to all for looking!

Problem downloading attachments via EWS on office 365 since friday dec 9, 2016

Since Friday dec 9, 2016 I get and error when downloading the attachments from a email message in my public folder using EWS (exchange web services). The error is : "An internal server error occurred. The operation failed"

This was working last week.  We get the exception when calling FileAttachment.Load. Nothing has changed in our code, and  I do not believe anything has changed on the server config

Forwarding emails with attachments from a public folder works as before.

Exchange 2013 mailbox migration stalled duration

I am in the process of migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to 2013. The moves seem to take an awfully long time. I am migrating a batch of 10 users and the total mailbox size is 32GB. It has been running for 12 hours and is not complete. I have notice that there is a "Stalled Duration Time" what does that represent? Also, what should I expect in terms of migration time?

Enabling a Cloud Archive via script

$

We are currently running an Office 365 Hybrid 2007/2013 along side ADFS.

We are successfully migrating users and have scripted 95% of the process. The one last bit I cant figure out is enabling the Archive.

I found out that once migrated I cant enable the Archive for a mailbox if I use the Office 365 admin console but instead have to log on to our local Exchange 2013 server and enable it through the GUI there. I search for a mailbox, it shows the mailbox type as "Office 365" and I can then click the link on the right hand side to Enable Archive.

I thought that it would be a simple case of running the following powershell to do this at the command line

Enable-Mailbox "User" -Archive

but I get the same error as before in the Office 365 GUI.

The following error occurred during validation in agent 'Windows LiveId Agent': 'Unable to perform the save operation. 'User' is not within a valid server write scope.'

Any ideas ?

For a week now I have been unable to use the testconnectivity.microsoft.com site.

As soon as I click to verify the captcha, I get a popup that says "Verifying the challenge failed.  Please refresh the page and try again".

I have tried Firefox, IE, and Edge on three different machines and they all give this same error.

Exchange Hybrid - Calendar Sharing Separate Rule

Hello,

I am a Hybrid Exchange Scenario with two Exchange DAG on different Site. Everything works fine .. onboarding and Offboarding with different Endpoints

But i have one Problem with Calendar Sharing:

I have two SMTP Domain with different Certifcate. When i ran the Hybrid Wizard i think i do the mistake to click both domain.

When i am now look at "Organisation Relationship" i see something strange. The Application URI is FYDIBOHF25SPDLT.domainB.com but the Autodiscover Endpoint ist autodiscover.domainA.com..

I don't know why the Wizard do this... When i want to change this in two separate Rules i get the following Message

The domains 'domainA.com', 'domainB.com' already exist in another organization relationship. Domains can only exist in one organization relationship.
To create an organization relationship with this domain, remove the domain from the other organization relationship.

Where i have to change this that i can split the Rules? Is there somethings else i have to do?

Thank for your help

Exchange 2010 Hybrid with O365

Hy,

we have some Exchange 2010 and some Exchange 2013 Systems in different Exchange Organsations (with the last Patch-Level) and wan´t to migrate to Exchange 2016 in a Hybrid-Configuration.

We have 100.000 Mailboxes and wan´t to migrate  95% to "one" O365-Cloud-Tenant

What is the best way to do that ?

1. Install 2016 with DAG and use the Hybrid Wizzard / Move the Cloud-Mailboxes direct in the Cloud  / Move the OnPrem Mailboxes to the EX2016 / Deinstall 2010

2. Migrate to EX2016 / use the Hybrid Wizzard / Move the Cloud-Mailboxes in the Cloud / Deinstall 2010

Thanks

Clients go Offline while Mailbox Migration from 2010 to 2013

Hi team,

I'm in a 2010 and 2013 co-existence environment with the latest server updates. I did a mailbox move but while doing it, my owa users are getting the below error;

"You weren't able to sign in because the mailbox is being moved. You won't be able to access it until the move is complete. Please wait and try again later."

At the same time the Outlook client goes into "Trying to connect/Disconnected" mode and after the move is completed the below message is given;

"The Microsoft Exchange Administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook"

Once the migration status is "Completed" i can refresh owa and the new 2013 GUI is prompted. Restarting Outlook works good too. On the migration log, no errors are shown.

Any idea where I might want to look at?

Thank you.

Jude Perera.

Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 - MSX 2007 transaction logs not truncating after full backup

$

Hi,

We have 2 x MSX2007 servers running build 83.6 which I think was SP3 with or CU10 or whatever was required to co-exist with MSX2013.

MSX1 was the primary mailbox server and MSX2 was the SCR target server. MSX1 in addition to hosting the live DB's also ran LCR for the four storage groups.

I found that LCR caused bad performance when moving mailboxes from 2007 to 2013, so I disabled this on the storage groups and moved mailboxes. This minimized the performance impact on MSX 2007 after a mailbox was moved successfully.

HOWEVER - I have now noticed that the storage groups are no longer purging transaction logs after a full backup (Backup Exec 2014 - Full backup with purge option). Based on the storage groups I have checked, the oldest log files are 1 day prior to my disabling of LCR. They were not all disabled on a single day

Backup Exec job log reports no problems, and the Application log of the MSX1 server doesn't show any errors during the backup either.

I checked the LCR and SCR status and it seems OK.

(I'm not sure what the 'Second Storage Group' is - something for public folders maybe, but we are not using public folders)

The application log of MSX2 (SCR target server) is also clean of errors.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what could be going on?

Thanks in advance,

Creating New Rule in Excahnge 2013 For Location Wise Email Blocking

$

Hi,

I would like to create new rule in exchange 2013 admin console(ECP), for one our Client requirement.

Here is the Requirement.

We have four Sites in different locations on same domain. Say for example, Two sites in USA location and other Two sites in UK location.

Internal users who belongs to USA Sites will be sending email to one of our Client(XXXX) email id's, at the time they(internal User of USA) are copy marking our other location internal users also in "To or Cc or Bcc column" who belongs to UK sites.

Condition is :

1.) Internal users from USA location, should Only be able to send email to this client(XXXX).

2.) Internal users from UK location, should Not able to send email to this client(XXXX).

3.) If any user belongs to UK location is copy marked in "To or Cc or Bcc column" by the USA location users on sending email to client end(XXXX). Should have the follow below steps.

a.) Email should not be delivered to the UK internal users as well as to the client end. And there should be rejection message for reason not been delivered.

b.) Rejection reason message can be any draft message.

4.) On one word to say is, If the client(XXXX) domain email address is there in "To or Cc or Bcc column" with UK location users email id's. Mail should be bounded back with rejection reason.

Primary Reason Behind the Rule is :

For security reasons and measures, Our client don't like to visible there information to UK location users at all. Also they don't want UK locations users copy marked in client communications emails.

Could someone can assist me in creating new rule for this requirement.

Thanks

Thanks

Exchange 2013 Setup

I am installing Exchange 2013 on a new server in a Exchange 2007 Environment.  When I first install Exchange 2013, mailflow works to myself and from a 2007 user.  When i update to the CU13 or 14 all mailflow stops working and the messages get stuck in the queue.

When i check the message tracking log i get the following errors. SmtpResponse:441 4.4.1 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP address: ""421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to SocketError."" Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts. The last endpoint attempted was 172.......:2525"

No other changes were made.  The Firewall on the server is turned off and there is no A/V.  Server 2012 R2.  If i check the Queue the SMTP Relay to Mailbox Delivery and SMTP Delivery to Mailbox have messages stuck.

Outlook failing to update profile after cross-forest migration

I am doing cross forest (Exchange 2013 to 2016) migration.

I have 2 forest abc.lan (Ex 2013) and 123.lan (Ex 2016).

For exchange 2013, Some of the users currently use outlook within domain (their computers are domain joined to abc.lan).

For  outside domain migrated users, all is good, they get standard message to restart outlook, and their profile get updated after restart automatically using Autodiscover record pointed to Exchange 2016 server.

But, I am getting problems with outlook machines joined to source server AD domain.

After migrating, I am getting the standard message that 'Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook', and when I restart outlook, After few minutes, outlook throws following error:

Can anyone suggest a solution for this problem.

Thanks in Advance.

There is a functional Exchange 2007 server were trying to migrate to 2013.

Installing Exchange 2013 is failing on a new domain connected 2012 R2 VM.

All the prerequisites met but the setup progress fails every time.

I can't make heads or tails of what this means:

" was run: "The process does not possess the 'SeSecurityPrivilege' privilege which is required for this operation.".

Does anyone know where to begin with this issue?
