Exchange 2010 troubleshooting - Need SP2 RU4

$

Hey guys

We are about to upgrade an old Exchange 2010 SP2 server to SP3 before we introduce a 2016 server.

The server did not have a lot of rollups(1-6), but the installers were all removed from C:\Windows\installer causing issues when trying to upgrade.

Initially we got this error for every single rollup that was missing an installer:

MSI (s) (0C:74) [19:29:18:581]: Note: 1: 1314 2: Exchange2010-KB2706690-x64-en.MSP
MSI (s) (0C:74) [19:29:18:581]: Unable to create a temp copy of patch 'Exchange2010-KB2706690-x64-en.MSP'.
MSI (s) (0C:74) [19:29:18:581]: Searching provided command line patches for patch code {A05711E0-333B-4476-B2B4-647799D59ED8}
MSI (s) (0C:74) [19:29:18:581]: Could not find source for missing patch {A05711E0-333B-4476-B2B4-647799D59ED8} -- orphaning this patch
MSI (s) (0C:74) [19:29:18:581]: Opening existing patch 'C:\Windows\Installer\61ca4ef1.msp'.

We have been able to find all installers with the exception of RU4. The server has both RU4 and RU4v2 installed.

It seems like we will be able to proceed once we find the kb "Exchange2010-KB2706690-x64-en.MSP" and rename it to 61ca4ef1.msp.

Do any of you have this available or know any other method of getting rid of the error for RU4?

Failure during install, "this user isn't a member of the 'Schema/Enterprise Admins' groups."

I keep getting the error during install. The old exchange server was gracefully uninstalled and there are no traces of Exchange servers or databases in DC when viewing with ADSI edit, nor any exchange security group/users in AD.

I have tried running the setup.exe GUI, as well as setup.exe with all of the /Prepare switches

The Exchange is a new new build 2013 SP1 on Server 2012

Domain functional level is set to server 2012 and the Exchange administrator is a member of the domain, schema, enterprise admins. I have also tried setting each of those groups as the primary group for the administrator.

Any help is appreciated, been at this for days now.

Retain mailoboxes in Exch 2013 database format after migrating to Exch 2016

Hi All

The question is: If after adding Exch 2016 and moving all roles from Exch 2013 can I leave some databases in Exch 2013 (15.0) format? I want to skip to move obsolete mailboxes to new database (15,1)

So if I decommission all Exch 2013 servers from the environment and retain only with Exch 2016 servers will some mailboxes left in Exch 2013 format (15.0) still be accessible solely by Exch 2016 and the clients?

Or to rephrase: Do I HAVE TO move all mailboxes to new format database BEFORE decommissioning Exch 2013 servers?

Greg

Migration from Exchange server 2013 to 2016

Hello All ,

we are inprocess to migrate our ms exchange 2013 ( 2 Exchange Nodes ) to MS Exchange Server 2016 . This is going to be our first time doing the migration from 2013 to 2016.

i have seen many documents online regarding the migration. My concern is , while we install the exchange 2016 we currently have exchange 2013 as well we don't have load balancer and traffic is directed to one of our exchange 2013 server , when we are going to install the new exchange 2016 we have to create the mailbox database in order to move the user ,

My concern is shall i keep the traffic pointing to exchange 2013 (Old Setup) till the mailbox moves for all users to new database finish then change the traffic or changing the traffic will not effect the old database access from the users side? or after finishing the mailbox transfer i have to update them again to get the emails during the transfer?

Regards,

Exchange 2013 Hybrid setup questions

My organization is migrating to Microsoft 365. We have decided that Full Hybrid (classic) offers us the highest level of flexibility and the smoothest end user transition. While running through he Hybrid Configuration Wizard I have encountered the following topics that have given me pause to reconsider our approach.

Environmental Info:

 • Exchange 2013 CU 23
 • 2 server DAG
 • IB proxy via Proofpoint

Questions

 1. Local Admin account for HCW: Roughly 50% through the HCW, the wizard asks for a local admin account that will manage the on-prem resources. I have not been able to locate ANY documentation explaining what specific permissions are required for this account. I'd prefer not to grant any more permissions than required.
 2. Moving off on-prem exchange eventually: Our desired end-state is to have an on-prem AD environment, with AADconnect syncing on-prem user accounts to MS365 and Exchange Online being the sole repository for email. I have seen a lot of mixed information about being able move away from the Hybrid configuration. There is MS documentation that states you "cannot manage mailboxes in this scenario" which is so generic of a statement, I have to imagine there is more nuance here. I have a hard time believing that with the ferocity that MS pushes Hybrid as the gateway to Exchange Online, that there is no way to leave legacy Exchange behind. Has anyone moved into the desired end-state that I describe above

Migrate from 2013 CU12 to 2019 and then to Office 365 / Exchange online > Whats the best upgrade path for me ?

Dear Forum Members.

I have to plan a migration from Exchange 2013 CU12 to Exchange 2016 or Exchange 2019 or cloud and update / replace also our Office version.
I dont know exactly whats the best for the future. I would love to go to Office 365 and therefore also to Exchange online.
We use also Skype for business 2016 together with our telephone system so there are a lot of decisions to make. I read about Exchange 2019 and that there is no Unified Messaging functionality also, Exchange 2016 still has UM.

We have right now:

Office 2013 / Skype for business 2016 connected to out phone system. / Exchange 2013 CU12

I see our future like this:

Office 365 (always newest office version)
Exchange XXXX in full Hybrid Mode connected to Exchange Online (save storage onprem, free / busy informations)
Teams (should replace Skype for business with possability to make phone calls, voice mail to mailbox)

Can someone help me with the upgrade path of Exchange and Skype for business ? What version do i need at the end ?
I know Exchange 2016 still has Unified Messaging but this software is already 4 years old and end of life is in 5 years (10/14/2025)

Thank you very much for help and hints !

After Migration, Offline Global Address List Not Updating

$

Good day,

We recently went through a migration of our Exchange Server 2013. After that happened, the offline Global Address Book for users has not been updating. So, new contacts in the Global Address List are not being propagated to users' local installations of Outlook. When this was brought to my attention, I attempted to manually download the Global Address Book through Outlook and recieved the error:

0x8004010F: 'The operation failed. An object cannot be found.'

I went into Exchange Powershell and confirmed that there was a Default Global Address book.

I went into Exchange Admin Center > Organization > Address Lists and confirmed that Default Global Address List was there, and that the new users' email addresses were in it.

I suspected that this was related to the exchange migration, but documentation available points to the local .pst file being corrupt. So I followed Microsoft's documented steps to create a new data file and use it. After I successfully did that, the new contacts in the Global Address List were now found in the new .pst file, but when I again try to manually download the Global Address Book, the error persisted.

Regardless, going into each user's workstation and creating a new .pst file is not a scalable solution so I am trying to find a way to correct this issue by performing work on the exchange server. I would imagine that there was a mistake made in the migration that broke Outlook's ability to update the Global Address Book. Any thoughts on what I can do?

Thanks!

Exchange install fails saying server reboot is pending

The exact message:

There is a pending reboot from a previous installation of a Windows Server role or feature. Please restart the computer and then run Setup again.

Other posts say to remove:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations

But that key does not exist. Needless to say, I have recently restarted the server after seeing this error.
