Can users be allowed to change the 'Direct Reports' in their own 'addres card'?

We want to allow every person (effectively the line managers) to add/edit his own 'Direct Reports'. Is this possible via permissions?

Client Access Co-existence 2007 to 2013 - Urgent.

Hello

We have read dozens of articles around coexistence, but all presume existing namespace and external access to Exchange. None seem to apply to our environment.

We are using Exchange 2007 SP3 CU10, No existing Single Space, No Load balancing. 4 CCR Clusters and 2 HUB\CAS Servers.

We are installing Exchange Server 2013 CU2, and will be using an internal PKI for Certificates.

Also will be using a BigIP for Load balancing 4x2013 CAS, a new single namespace of mail.company.int.  And there will be no Internet access to Exchange 2013 CAS Services (only for SMTP).

Questions:

1) Do we still need to create a legacy.company.int namespace?

2) If so do we need to edit the namespaces on our Exchange 2007 CAS to use http://legacy.company.int/* Namespace?

3) Do Exchange Server 2013 Certificates need to be installed on the Exchange 2007 CAS?

4)Should the legacy.company.int namespace be in the same single certificate we use for Exchange Server 2007.

Thanks in advance, please if possible try not to point us back to another Web or Technet Article.

Lots of questions I know, but would greatly appreciate some clarity on this, we want to avoid any client issues.

Client Access Server

Please help with this question.

We have Exchange 2010 SP3 with all updates on Windows 2008 R2 and want to deploy Exchange 2013 in our organization.

We also have Exchange 2013 Mailbox role on Windows 2012 R2.

I need to know: Weather Exchange 2013 Client Access role MUST be member of my domain, or not?

Thank you beforehand.

Bug in ABP based segregation at distribution group level

$

We have Exchange 2013 based hosted exchange platform, tenants are segregated via ABP with custom attribute1 as a filter. users, distribution groups etc. are properly segregated as expected.

when a user login to owa\ecp and navigate to Options->Groups, they can see the distribution groups it is member of and the distribution group for whom he is defined as manager, with in the same tenants. All good as expected.

but now when you click on join button, it open up a windows which exposes all the security groups and distribution groups from all the tenants on this platform. it clearly says the ABP is not taking care of segregation at this level and expose ALL Groups Address list to all the tenants bypassing the ABP segregation. Is their any hack exist for this issue?

migrating ex2007 to ex2013 legacy hostname

$

I have 2 - Ex2k7 servers (MailA & MailB) that service different domain names (externaldomain & otherexternaldomain) and I will be rolling both into 1 server with Ex2k13, but retaining the separate email domain names.

I was told by my Exchange instructor that I could use my existing SAN cert.

 Existing SAN cert names:

 Autodiscover.externaldomain.com

Mob.externaldomain.com

Genericname.externaldomain.com

Autodiscover.otherexternaldomain.com

Mob.otherexternaldomain.com

 Internal Outlook 2007 clients use ‘autodiscover.externaldomain.com’ & ‘autodiscover.otherexternaldomain.com’.

We do not use OWA, but ActiveSync clients use ‘mob.externaldomain.com’ & ‘mob.otherexternaldomain.com’ via TMG.

An email gateway in the DMZ is our external email presence and routes messages to the internal mail servers. External DNS points to the IP of the gateway.

My plan was to install the new Ex2k13 server and gradually migrate mailboxes, so there will be coexistence.

Finally, my question is, given this scenario, can the Ex2k13 server proxy both the Autodiscover & Activesync requests, thus negating the need for a legacy hostname?

 Thanks!

Exchange 2010 with ISA 2006 cannot redirect OWA to new 2013 servers

$

I have recently introduced 2013 servers into my 2010 environment.  All 2010 services are published through an ISA 2006 server locally and externally.  I moved a test mailbox from the 2010 databases to 2013 databases, and am now unable to access the box through the 2010 OWA logon page.  It is giving me an error message of "A server configuration change is temporarily preventing access to your account. Please close all Web browser windows and try again in a few minutes. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk."

- All users are able to log onto the 2013 OWA Page successfully, not matter if their database is on 2010 or 2013.

- The test user's Outlook also stopped working after the mailbox move.  If I change the DNS entry for the mail server in the hosts file to point to the 2013 servers, it will work fine.

I suspect the problem lies within the ISA 2006 form functionality.  Maybe ISA does not know how to properly handle the redirection from 2010 to 2013.  To fix the problem I think I can cut over the DNS and other pointers to 2013, but I would like to put that off until I can successfully test some mailboxes in the new environment.  Thank you!

How many certs do I need for two intersite CAS servers in two sites?

$

Hello, I'm transitioning our company's Exchange 2007 infrastructure to Exchange 2013. The proposed design is two CAS servers and 4 MBX servers separated down the middle between two sites. Example, 1 CAS and 2 MBX in Los Angeles and 1 CAS and 2 MBX in Chicago.

That said, when I gen'up new certificates, do I need a specific one for each CAS or gen'up one that can be installed in both CAS servers. Also, do MBX servers also get the same cert installed?

Proposed:

LA-CAS01

LA-CAS01.example.com

webmail/ActiveSync

webmail.example.com
sync.example.com

legacy.example.com
legacy

autodiscover.example.com
autodiscover.example.com
autodiscover

CHI-CAS01

CHI-CAS01.example.com

webmail/ActiveSync

webmail.example.com
sync.example.com

legacy.example.com
legacy

autodiscover.example.com
autodiscover.example.com

New to exchange I need some basic information, please

Hi,

Our organization is upgrading from HMailserver running on server 2003 to Exchange 2013 running on server 2012.After I installed server 2012 and exchange 2013, when I go to setup mail boxes the domain is:

@forest.domain.net, instead of what I was hopping for just @domain.net, I know this is very basic, but I never set up an exchange server from scratch, so how do I go about this? what do I need to change to make it @domain.net ? when I set up mail boxes?

Thanks a lot,

Walter.

The EDS Job manager failed to start

Hi

I am installing the first Exchange 2013 Server in my Exchange 2007 environment
It has completed successfully but in the Application Event Log I see an error, twice:

EventID: 1032
The EDS Job manager failed to start the following jobs:
Job: 'TransportSyncHealthHubLog' is poisoned.

Anyone know a reason for this?

I can only think that it is related to Jetstress which was installed on the Server

However I removed the utility together with the folder, database and  log files prior to installing Exchange.

Thanks

Exchange 2007 to 2013 Public Folder Migration - Have to set -DefaultPublicFolderMailbox to primary Hierarchy mailbox?

$

Hey All,

I have just gone through my 3rd attempt at migrating public folders - each time thinking it was just broken.

Basically i have 8 public folder mailboxes after my migration.

I've found that each users DefaultPublicFolderMailbox attribute is set to a random Public Folder Mailbox (1 to 8)

If it is set to the primary  Hierarchy mailbox (Mailbox1) the folder structure looks fine, if it's set to anything else it's as if there is no folder structure, and all folders are in the root directory.. it's very strange - everything looks messed up.

I've followed 2 guides from microsoft on how to migrate this 3 times now.

Can i just set everyones DefaultPublicFolderMailbox to Mailbox1 (The Primary Hierarchy) and be done with it? or is something not right.

Thanks

Exchange 2010, configuring HA (disaster recovery) in another Site

$

Hi, I was planning my Exchange 2010 (sp1) HA architecture, but I stumble in something unexpected (due to my ignorance) and I'm looking for advice.

Here is the situation now:

I have a virtual exchange server with HUB and CAS roles and another phisical exchange server with mailbox role installed. They are both in my primary site.

Now we have a remote site and a remote vmware hosts to use for HA and disaster recovery purposes. The internal network of the DR site is different from mine and it's natted too. More precisely my primary network is 192.168.100.0/24 and the DR network is 192.168.60.0/24 natted with 192.168.113.0/24.

The DR domain controller and the DR AD site are already in place.

My idea was:

- to use veeam replication to create a replica of the first exchange server, the virtual one of course, with CAS and HUB roles. I thought to use the veeam network remapping tool to change che server IP address in case of failover.

- to install a new exchange server in the DR site with mailbox role only and configure a DAG

I thought it was brilliant.

It was not..

Since i cannot create the veeam replica right now (long story) I tried to install the DAG and here we are with my problems.

Error:

Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory. Could not find Active Directory site to which this server belongs.

This is weird, because I have no problems with site replications etc.

Warning:

Setup did not detect an existing Huh Transport Server role installed in Active Directory site 'DR'...
Setup did not detect an existing Client Access Server role installed in Active Directory site 'DR'...

And that's my real problem. I didn't remember that Exchange is site based.

What are my options now?
Could I install CAS and HUB just to complete the install and then ignore them or they will cause problems with my primary site?

In the end, what do you think should I do?

At this point I could re-think the all thing.

Thank you and sorry for the grammar

Exchange 2013 multi-site design

$

Hello,

Please can anyone indicate me some values for the network bandwidth requirements for the following case:

4 Sites, each connected with 20Mb MPLS. Actually there is one non MS Mail system in each site. the 20Mb are 80% used in busniness Hour.
Site 1 : 200 users
Site 2 : 400 users
Site 3 : 600 users
Site 4 : 800 users (the "central site" with SMTP gateway)

The migration plan is to move to a multi-site DAG with active-passive DB in respective site + one lagged passive of each site in the "central" site.

By my lecture, the designe would be :

- 1 DAG covering the 4 sites
- 1 CAS Array per site
- 1 HLB per CAS Array

Can you please indicate me :
- if my design understanding is correct.
- the required bandwidth per user (20-50 mails per day at most, but as Exchange doesn't do deduplication, one email with 5Mo attachement sent to say, 100 users, represent 500Mo (Not Mb) of transfert, isn't it?
- if exchange 2013 DAG DB copy replication can be configured to be restricted to Of-business hours (per DB). Most needed in the time of coexistence/migration, when replication Data will be hughe..

Well, I would like real life multi-site replication experiments advice.. please.. would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you a lot

Migration LOtus Domino 853Toward E2013 CU2 with Quest NME 48

$

Hello Guys,

I am in search of somebody who uses NME 48 to migrate to E2013 CU2 from Lotus 853.

Pb : All the messages with a size superior to 500 Ko(Kb) indicate a limitation of  information store when migrated.

Below a sample of an error message :

17:22:15 Error: message size exceeds that authorized for this user (this is translated the real msg is in French :Error: La taille du message en cours d'envoi dépasse celle autorisée pour cet utilisateur)

17:22:15 Component: Microsoft Exchange Information Store

17:22:15 Low level error: 000004DA

We verify that : no restrictrion on IS, no quota on user mailbox, send (with Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013)Inside the E2013 org message until 12 Mo (the limit we specified) is all right (test send receive Attachment etc...).

Event viewer with no warning, no error, everything all right.

Found this in quest forum :

1) The mail message if too large for the Exchange Information Store

2) The mailbox has reached capacity

3) Changes to the Transport and Storage limits in Exchange Information Store may not have taken effect yet. May sure to restart the Transport Service for the change to take effect

These 3 points have been checked and doesn' matter in the exchange 2013 organisation.

Configuration : 2 DC 2 E2013 2 Lotus Domino 853 in the same AD Domain, no complication !

Does anybody meet with this situation and could solve it ?

Help would be appreciate because we are stuck because of that restriction.

Exchange\Domain Split

$

Before I begin, yes I tried searching for an answer.  Scenario:  Company 1 is splitting into Company 1 and Company 2 (legal reasons).  Company 1 will keep existing Domain (Server 2008r2) and Exchange (2010) with hardware.  Company 2 received new hardware, a new Domain (Server 2012) and Exchange (2013) connected via federated trust.  As of right now we have one Public IP for email for both domains (to receive for Company 2, but send as Company 1). After reading through forums I understand its possible to have a connector between the two Exchange servers to deliver\send email from Company 1 to Company 2 and vice versa.  But, since we need total separation legally, this is not an option.  Question:  Is it possible to have two exchange servers with separate domain names on one public IP address without a connector between the two?  Or is it better to get another public IP address and use our DNS provider to point to separate public IP addresses?  Thank You- Daniel
