Unable to create new OWA Vdir in E15 using Shell (Problem -Role Switch)

Hi All,

With E15 we have the Frontend & Backends with Scaled deployments.

1. I am working on getting multiple namespaces to work for OWA since we have some political issues.

2. It used to be simple in E2010 where there was no BackEnd dir on mailbox servers, it was straight.

3. I think its good now as well that I can just run the same command to specify what role the OWA Vdir is getting created Via roles.

4. Problem is cant get the cmdlet to work with -Role Switch. Below is the error.

[PS]C:\Windows\system32>New-OwaVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName "My Site" -Server cas1 -Role FrontEnd -WhatIf
Cannot process argument transformation on parameter 'Role'. Cannot convert value "FrontEnd" to type
"Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.VirtualDirectoryRole". Error: "Unable to match the identifier
name FrontEnd to a valid enumerator name.  Specify one of the following enumerator names and try again: ClientAccess,
Mailbox"
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidData: (:) [New-OwaVirtualDirectory], ParameterBindin...mationException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ParameterArgumentTransformationError,New-OwaVirtualDirectory
    + PSComputerName        : cas1.shared.local

>>>>>>. looking at TechNet and PS the parameter can be found as below & is a named position as well. I have tried

1. -Role FrontEnd

2. -Role:$Frontend

3. Don't know what to do ;-)

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-Help New-OwaVirtualDirectory -Parameter role

-Role <ClientAccess | Mailbox>
The Role parameter specifies the configuration that should be used when the virtual directory is created. The
following are the values that can be used with this parameter:
    * FrontEnd Configures the virtual directory for use on a Client Access server.
    * BackEnd Configures the virtual directory for use on a Mailbox server.

    Required?                    false
    Position?                    Named
    Default value
    Accept pipeline input?       False
    Accept wildcard characters?  false

Setup:

5 MBX + HT in DAG (Multi-Site)

6 CAS Servers (Currently Running out of Default Website / Everythin OK Except that I have to run 12 Different OWA's)

...... Phewwwwwwwwwwww.

After server failure, clients won't reconnect

Hi guys,

Having issues with our Outlook 2010 clients in our pre-pilot deployment.

If mailboxes of the test users resides in DB01 and we restart the server currently holding the active database, the clients gets disconnected but it takes up to 1 hour before they are connected again, or if we restart Outlook.

If we do a database "switchover" from the shell or from within EAC the clients gets disconnected for 2-3 secs, then they connect perfectly.

We have the following Exchange Server 2013 environment:

- 3 Multirole servers hosting active/passive databases

- 1 multirole server hosting passive lagged copies

Hardware load balancer / HTTPS traffic for autodiscover.company.com and mail.company.com

- LB method: Round Robin (between server 1-3, not the lagged one)

- Persistance: none

- Monitor: SSL TCP, 5 sec interval, 2 sec time-out, 3 retries, 30 sec downtime

While we initiate a server reboot and the databases are mounted on another server (we monitor this via powershell), I can at the same time in outlook under Connection Status see that it lost some proxy servers and dont reconnect automatically.

If I press Reconnect, all proxyservers are removed and that list is empty...

So.. Howcome I can initiate a databaswe switchover and things are running perfect but when initiating a serverfailure it doesnt work. Is this HLB related, outlook related or Exchange related?

Help appreciated!

Hi All,

Recently I have done the transition of Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, migrated Resource mailboxes, 2000 mailboxes as well, created and configured DAG with 2 Mailbox Nodes not collocated with CAS with 3 highly available databases, default databases has been deleted.

since I have created highly available database I have been receiving following errors for each database, how ever when I run the command to test database copy status which shows that it is healthy as well as when ever I test replication it is passed but every after few minutes I am getting below errors on each mailbox servers against each database, we do not have any backup configured

Database one datacenter health check failed.

if you notice I am seeing weird time and date for example 1/1/1601 12:00:00 AM and  1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM which I have no idea why it is, please help me in this as I don't know that should I ignore this or not, does it show that my databases are not replicating and are not healthy, I have also enabled DatacenterActivationMode.

Another problem I have is follows

when ever I try to edit any resource mailbox i am receiving following error, how ever when i run the command from shell for resource mailbox i do not see any error, also when i try to edit or open any properties of distribution group i receive the below, when i take the properties of a user and click on delegation tab i receive the below as well. please help me why i am receiving this, is there some thing which is missing while migrating from exchange 2007 to 2013. i did not run the command to upgrade distribution group but i did on only one group but still the same. i have no idea that these GUIDs are related to which objects

he object has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:

m:/RecoverServer for Exchange 2010 fails

Current environment is W2008 domain with Exch 2003 sp2.  Previously a new W2008 R2 server was introduced with the intent of installing 2010 Exch & migrating clients from 2003.  Before this was completed the plan changed and the 2010 server was re-purposed.  Instead of doing an uninstall the server NOS was reloaded and it was rebuilt.  I still see the 2010 Administrative Group in 2003 ESM.  I've brought up a temporary W2008 R2 server in an attempt to recover the 2010 Exch.  This server has the same name is joined to the domain but I am unable to give it the same IP address.  When running the m:/RecoverServer cmd it starts but fails.  The intent is to clean up the references to the Exch 2010 server in the AD and the ESM. We are going to Office 365 in the future so no need for the Exch 2010 server. I'd like to get it out of my network completely. I must keep my 2003 Exch environment in a working state so I'm hesitant to move forward without the assistance of those wiser than me! I've pasted the errors in the setup log for review.  Your help is appreciated!

Challenges with New Exchange

Hi Everyone,

i downloaded the latest exchange 2013 cu1 and installed on server 2012, its now coexisting with other 2 exchange 2010 SP3. Challenges are on the client end after moving mailboxes to exchange 2013, they're getting retry, workoffline popup when outlook is starting. after a reboot they're prompted for a password and they have to keep on keying in the password every time they start outlook instead of using windows authentication. i have also noticed its picking the server name as "2b321b59-c47c-471f-bdcd-53e467523ad2@Contoso.com" instead of the exact name of the server.

My clients are running Outlook 2010 SP1 on XP SP3.

Exchange 2010 to 2013 migration

$

We want to migrate an All-in-one Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2013.

I have some question before migrating so I can correctly plan the migration.

Our environment is as follow:

We have split brain DNS:
internal DNS zone = contoso.com
external DNS zone = contoso.com

The Exchange 2010 server is configured as follow:
Exchange 2010 server = EX2010
internal URLs = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab
external URLS = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab
all internal URLS directly point to the IP of the Exchange 2010 server
all external URLS point to a TMG which publishes the Exchange 2010 server

We want to configure the Exchange 2013 server as follow:
Exchange 2013 server = EX2013
internal URLs = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab and exchange.contoso.com is for Outlook anywhere
external URLS = autodiscover.contoso.com , exchange.contoso.com/owa , exchange.contoso.com/ecp , exchange.contoso.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync , exchange.contoso.com/oab and exchange.contoso.com is for Outlook anywhere
we want to point the internal URLS directly to the IP of the Exchange 2013 server
we want to point the external URLS to the TMG which publishes the Exchange 2013 server

All our clients are already connecting by RPC/HTTPS to the Exchange 2010 server.
This means if we switch the autodiscover.contoso.com & exchange.contoso.com URLs , clients directly connect to Exchange 2013 CAS.
Will this work correct if Mailboxes are still on Exchange 2010 server?

Some other questions I have are regarding Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 migration:

Do the "Address List" need to be moved or migrated to Exchange 2013, or do we or the Exchange 2013 setup create new ones?
We have Retention Policy Tags do these need to be moved or migrated to Exchange 2013, or do we or the Exchange 2013 setup create new ones?
We have Retention Policies do these need to be moved or migrated to Exchange 2013, or do we or the Exchange 2013 setup create new ones?
We use Archiving and thus we have an Archive database, is it possible to move a user mailbox to Exchange 2013 database and keep the Archive mailbox for this user on the Exchange 2010 server/database during coexistence?

Exchange 2013 - The name on the certificate is invlaid

Hi There,

I have a trusted wild card certificate imported into my Exchange server. On my clients I get the following message:

I believe outlook to be using the internal name of the server which is not on the certificate. How can I change Exchange to use the name mail.domain.com for its server name connection in Outlook?

Thanks

Exchange 2013: Cannot submit migration batch

$

Trying to create a migration batch as the following:

New-Migration Batch -Local -Name Batch1 -CSVData([System.IO.File]::ReadAllBytes("<csv file path>")) -TargetDatabase <database name>

Gives me the following error:

The operation couldn't be performed because object 'Batch1' coulnd't be found on Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.MailboxSession

+ CategoryInfo: NotSpecified: (Batch1:MigrationBatchID) [New-MigrationBatch], ManagementObjectNotFoundException

+ FulllyQualifiedErrorID : 2BCEC4B6 ,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Migration.NewMigrationBatch

+PSComputerName: <Ex2013 server name>

When I try submitting the batch using ECP, it shows the same error the first time. I click ok on the error message and click "New" again to try submitting the batch again, then it says "Error: The migration batch 'Batch1' already exists.

So I run Get-moverequest | where-object {$_.BatchName -eq "Batch1"} or Get-moverequest | where-object {$_.BatchName -eq "MigrationService:Batch1"}, it shows no moverequest that has "Batch1" as batch name. The ECP does not show any batch created under migration.

If I create individual move request (New-MoveRequest), mailbox migration works fine. But it's just submitting a batch that seems out of order...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

XP Outlook 2007 clients cannot connect to Exchange 2013. Windows 7 machines are ok.

I have a new install of Exchange 2013, with the DC on a separate machine with Server 2012. I'm trying to setup users on it. Machines that have Windows 7 connect completely fine. No interaction is needed to get Outlook up and running.

Machines with Windows XP SP3 cannot connect at all. Using Internet Explorer and going to https://mail.domain.com/owa shows a "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage". Trying to connect with Outlook 2007 shows a "Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." error box.

Both the DC and Exchange machines are using Centralized Certificates. I have SSL certs for both the mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com installed.

I can connect to https://mail.domain.com/owa from Firefox and Chrome on the XP machines and all shows OK. Just not IE.

This is the log from Outlook when trying to connect:

Autodiscover to https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting
GetLastError=12030; httpStatus=0.
Autodiscover to https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml FAILED (0x800C8203)

All tests from TestEchangeConnectivity pass.

PST import from Exch2010 to Exch2013 - Status FailedMAPI and FailedOther

$

Hi all,

I did New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox ... -FilePath \\....pst from working instance of Exchange 2010 and tried to Import that PST file into Exchange 2013 using Shell. As usual there was Alert that Import PST of mailbox has been queued. It was started by me, etc ...

Few hours later I ran Get-MailboxImportRequestStatistics -Identity test\mailboximport and found StatusDetail=FailedMAPI, PercentComplete=69

Because I'm going to migrate about 30 mailboxes in similar way, could you clarify what the problem is it and how to avoid it?

Thanks,

P.S. another attempt using PowerShell to Import same PST finished on 10% with FailedMAPI (or FailedOther???). Also how to figure out which user\mailboximport??? number relates to specific Import process?

Error Installing Exchange 2010 Server

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to installing Exchange Server 2010 and when I hit the install of the "Hub Transport Role" I get this error:

        The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
          if ( ($server -eq $null) -and ($RoleIsDatacenter -ne $true) )
          {
            Update-RmsSharedIdentity -ServerName $RoleNetBIOSName
          }
" was run: "The property 'RMSComputerAccounts' is on a read-only object and can't be modified.".

Any thoughts or ideas on how to fix this? I know it has something to do with the Active Directory Rights Management Services but I'm not sure how to grant write privileges to what I need.

Migration of SVR 2003 Ent with Exchange 2003

Hi All,

My current enviroment consists of 1 - 2003 Enterprise server as the DC with Exchange 2003 installed on the same machine and it has shares for file storage. This server also has 2 network MFP printers that are shared.

I have another 2003 Enterprise server thats a member server and it's only purpose is to support 1 mission crital application and has some shares for file storage.

I want to install on a new machine 2008 R2 Enterprise server as the DC and the other new machine install another 2008 R2 server as a member for Exchange 2010 only. On another Machine install 2008 R2 as a member for the mission critical application.

What is the best resaonable course of action to migrate from the 2003 servers to 2008 R2 servers.  I googled on this type of setup and I only found a couple things, but it did not help.  Should I begin by migrating the DC first, transfer the FSMO and then join the Exchange server as a member to the new DC and migrate from exchange 2003 to 2010, then demote the 2003 server?

If anyone knows of some type of step by step instructions on this type of senerio somewhere on the net or MS website to help the best way to migrate this, it would be greatful. Or even can provide there own steps for the best practice of this type of migration.

Thanks

BTW, I thought I was in the section of the forum that was for Exchange 2010.  However, the only choices I had was for Exchange 2013. My appoligies for posting this here, I could not locate one in the list of forms to post it in.  If a moderator see this, Please post it in the right section if this is an inappropraite forum.

2 physical locations with Exchange (single internet domain)

Need some ideas to setup a 2nd office (physically separate location)

Currently the Main site has a Windows 2003 Server with  25 users
I need to add a 2nd site which will have 6-7 possibly a max of around 15 in a couple years time.
Main site has a very poor ADSL connection around 6k so would need to use improve the connection - perhaps bonded
Cloud email is not an option.  Users will need to access Files and emails from the main site

Number of users is small but heavy email users. As far as connecting to remote site users I suppose I simply need to set same IP range and point the DNS to the main site on a Site-Site VPN.. My main concern is poor connectivity.

Alternatively, I could setup a DC at the new site but I'm not sure about the Link (Speed and quality)

Options as I see them are:

Terminal Services - currently using RDP to a couple of desktops. But generally users don't like it & speed varies.
Site - Site VPN - I guess the slow connection might be an issue (hopefully bonding 2+ channels will help)

I guess the main issue is Exchange - (single Internet domain)
Would Exchange allow split location ie. allow the 2nd site to have its own local Exchange server (or subset of Exchange) ie. a container Site 2 users but connected to the Main site are there is only one internet Domain. The 2nd would get incoming emails from Main site but send out locally.

Last couple of days Googled & searched MS site but can't seem to find out if this is possible with Exchange. Obviously larger sites with multi-location must need to do this.

Can anyone point me to resource where I can find out if 2 locations are possible. I need to Spec it produce a Budget in less than a week !

Do I Need ADMT?

We're moving from domain abc.local to xyz.local.  Don't care about permissions, passwords, computers.  Can I manually create my users in my new domain and then run the PrepareMove script to move my mailboxes to the new domain?  Mail is not changing btw.  Basically can I avoid using ADMT since I need minimal user info?

Cross-Forest Migration Questions

$

I was hoping someone could help me shed a little bit of light on some cross-forest linked mailbox details. Specifically:

1. If the target Forest already has contact objects in it created manually representing the pre-migration source mailboxes, does the new-move request handle that or will the existing contact objects need to be removed? If they need to be removed as mailboxes are migrated, would a PS script or something suffice to automate the task?

2. I assume the suspendwhenready switch works cross-forest. Are there any particular gotchas or does it work as expected?

3. If the source company goes by %S,%G but the new company goes by %G,%S is there an easy way to transition the naming during the migration and update the GAL as well?

4. Conference Rooms. What is the best way to deal with conference rooms over an extended migration?

Thank you in advance!

Basic Authentication issue

Hi,

I am running Exchange 2013 CU1 and am having trouble enabling basic authentication for OWA. Below shows that Basic Authentication should be working (I even did it in the GUI as well to confirm that it was applied). I have restarted IIS and even rebooted the box. Any ideas as to why it is not working? It is a single multi-role Exchange box.

Configuring Exchange 2013 as a relay connector to a web hosted mail server

Currently we are using a third party hosted mail service having 10 users mailboxes, domain name is dagaventures.com, but recently we have procured an Exchange server 2013 version and we want to configure it as a relay to the hosted mail server.

My question is - before installing exchange if we prepare a Domain server with the same name(dagaventures.com) and create ten users like name@dagaventures.com same as hosted mail user name, will it work? We want to configure exchange server domain with the same hosted domain name and users mail boxes will have the same name as hosted mail boxes name.

anyone please reply back soon.

Changing domain controller in an Exchange 2010 environment

Hello!

I have multiple Exchange 2010 servers (CAS, Mailboxes and EDGEs).

I'm going to deploy new (Windows 2012) DC and downgrade the old one.

What and where should I check to make sure that old DC is not hard-coded somewhere in the configuration settings?

That is what I'm thinking about:

Get-ADServerSettings

Set-ADServerSettings -PrefferedServer

Is that it?

I understand that AD Discovery service should do it's job, but I want to be sure that I've checked everything.

Thank you in advance!

Service Packs and Exchange version

I've rebuilt one of our exchange servers since I came on board here but I'm not sure what's missing so I thought I'd come here to ask to see if there's an easy to way tell.

When I got the EMC and go to Help and About Exchange Server 2010...

Each server has Version: 14.01.0355.002

My new server has, Version: 14.01.0218.013

Am I missing a rollup on that newest server? I am about to build out another in the next few weeks and I want to stay consistent. Is there a list or guide to help determine what rollup each server is at based on this Version number?
