public folder migration from 2007 with 2010 and 2013 co-existence

$

Hi all,

I'm not sure if I did this right, I have a new Exch2013 and a fairly new 2010, I'm about to decommission 2007, so I followed one of the guides on how to migrate pf's from 2007 to 2013, that went fine I can see the pf's on 2013 and users can post.

But somehow I forgot to set replication from 07 to 10 for the pf's and now I can't see the pf's on 07 and 2010 also, when I run these commands I get "No existing 'PublicFolder' matches the following Identity: '\'", seems like users only in 2013 will see the pf's, but not users in 2010.

Get-PublicFolder-Identity \-Recurse| FL Identity,Replicas
Get-PublicFolder-Identity \NON_IPM_SUBTREE-Recurse| FL Identity,Replicas

Did I just botch my legacy pf's or since they are now migrated to 2013, can I get it to replicate in 2010 also, or salvage it from 2007. Any pointers or guides would be great.

thanks in advanced.

Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migration and Architect a resilient and high availability exchange setup

Hi,

I currently have a single Exchange 2010 Server that has all the roles supporting about 500 users. I plan to upgrade to 2013 and move to a four server HA Exchange setup (a CAS array with 2 Server as CAS servers  and one DAG with 2 mailbox Servers). My goal is to plan out the transition in steps with no downtime. Email is most critical with my company.

Exchange 2010 is running SP3 on a Windows Server 2010 and a Separate Server as archive. In the new setup, rather than having a separate server for archiving, I am just going to put that on a separate partition.

Here is what I have planned so far.

1. Build out four Servers. 2 CAS and 2 Mailbox Servers. Mailbox Servers have 4 partitions each. One for OS. Second for DB. Third for Logs and Fourth for Archives.

2. Prepare AD for exchange 2013.

3. Install Exchange roles. CAS on two servers and mailbox on 2 servers. Add a DAG. Someone had suggested to me to use an odd number so 3 or 5. Is that a requirement?

4. I am using a third party load balancer for CAS array instead of NLB so I will be setting up that.

5. Do post install to ready up the new CAS. While doing this, can i use the same parameters as assigned on exchange 2010 like can i use the webmail URL for outlook anywhere, OAB etc.

6. Once this is done. I plan to move a few mailboxes as test to the new mailbox servers or DAG.

7. Testing outlook setups on new servers. inbound and outbound email tests.

once this is done, I can migrate over and point all my MX records to the new servers.

Please let me know your thoughts and what am I missing. I like to solidify a flowchart of all steps that I need to do before I start the migration.

thank you for your help in advance

2013 setup issues

Issue 1:

Ever since I introduced Exchange 2013 SP1 into my Active Directory, end users (Outlook 2013) have been getting Certificate warnings for the Exchange 2013 SP1 servers, even though they are all on Exchange 2010 SP3 still. It seemed to go away after I added a server1.domain.local cert from our domain CA, but on server2, it doesnt help. I get a warning for "The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site."

The warning has the server2 FQDN at the top and the name of the certificate is the FQDN with an external CA I use for all the autodiscover, OWA etc. The 3rd party CA cert is installed for IIS and SMTP and its selected in IIS for HTTPS on both Default Web Site and Exchange Back End.

Issue 2:

End users are getting prompted for credentials in Outlook 2013, some seem to go away and not come back, some users have reoccurring prompts for credentials through out the day. They donot have any relevant entries in the Control Panel/Credential Manager.

Issue 3:

I've migrated a test account to 2013, trying to setup Outlook for the account, but:

The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable....

I believe all the Autodiscover stuff should be fine, but I dont have a seperate GAL/OAB for Exchange 2013 yet, honestly this confuses me. How do I migrate my 2010 GAL to 2013? Do I need seperate GALs for 2010 and 2013?

Very happy to take replies for the individual issues separately, although they are probably linked.

I followed the Exchange Deployment Assistant but theres no GAL step in there and the certificate instructions in there are dubious, some other sources say assign the 3rd party cert to everything, other sources say dont touch the default certs at all.

Exchange Server Name Change - question

$

We had an exchange 2010 server called E5, it was doing HT & Mailbox from a VM. The hardware was pretty bad and couldn't support multiple exchange servers so I moved it off to a physical box and powered off the VM.

So here's the question. When the other VM on that platform didn't power back on after a power outage (it was corrupt) I powered up the old EX5 VM, renamed the server to EX3 (to replace the one that died), deleted the AD account, joined it new to the domain, and re-added all the mailbox databases one at a time. Things seemed to be working fine.

However, when I launch the EMC it tries to connect to EX5 and fails! It should connect to it's self, as it is now EX3. Is there a step I missed? Do I need to tell the exchange services on that VM that it is now EX3? Or is there a way to just point the EMC on the server at its self once again?

Exchange Server 2013 installer will not start or complete

Hello,

I am trying to MS Exchange Server onto a Windows Server 2012R2 with Active Directory network. I had started an installation process and it shot out a list of pre-requisites that server need before it can attempt to install. I fulfilled every pre-requisite. Rebooted the server. Now whenever I attempt another installation process again. It starts, gathers information, and quits with event log:

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Exchange Server. Product Version: 15.0.516.32. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 0.
MS Exchange Server is not listed in Programs and Features to even remove, is it a faulty Microsoft Installer? I have already rebooted numerous times to no avail.

EDIT: Here's a copy of the MSI log, I couldn't find anything to indicate what's going wrong myself, http://pastebin.com/LwCAimuF

Move Exchange 2013 installation to new virtual machine

$

Currently have: 1 virtual server - Server 2012 (DC, Global Catalog), Exchange 2013 CU1 installation (yes I know- dont install Exchange on DC etc etc ... ). Server2012/Exchange2013 is installed on one VMDK, EDB and logs are saved on another VMDK.

Want to do: Create second virtual machine and install Server 2012 (different name), add it as a member to the same domain (also in the same network), install Exchange 2013, move all mailboxes to the new server, uninstall the old Exchange 2013.

Question is- is it possible to somehow unmount the existing database (I am only using one database for mailboxes and public folders) and mount it to the new server or do I have to create a new database on the new server and move the mailboxes there? I've heard that the Exchange EDB databases were supposed to be portable between same versions of Exchange.

Any advice is appreciated.

TooManyMissingItemsPermanentException

I am importing PSTs that I got out of Exchange 2003 server in to Exchange 2013 SP1

Some of the import jobs are failing with the following error

FailureCode   : -2146233088
FailureType   : TooManyMissingItemsPermanentException
Message       : Error: This mailbox exceeded the maximum number of corrupt or missing items that were specified for this request.

How can I increase the limit for corrupt or missing items ?

Hopping I would be able to restart the request with

Resume-MailboxImportRequest -Identity XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

and provide the user with a list of not imported items from the report below

Get-MailboxImportRequest | Get-MailboxImportRequestStatistics -IncludeReport | fl > x:\Report.txt

MsExchangeMailboxReplication.exe.config has ContentVerificationMissingItemThreshold = 0, 0, MaxInt

All mailboxes migrated - what next

So we have successfully moved all mailboxes from 2k7 to 2k13 and  I've updated all DLs using the set-distributiongroup -forceupdate command.  Before we start migrating public folders, what else needs to be done to upgrade other exchange objects? For instance if I look at a mailuser object, its exchange version is still 2k7.  Do I need to do anything to upgrade those objects?  Also, things that carried over from 2k7 such as my email address policy, will those stick around once I decommission 2k7 environment?  Thanks!

DAG and availability issues

$
0
0

Hi All,

I'm new to all this Exchange stuff - I am currently experiencing an issue with DAG availability and receiving external emails - I think these two issues may be related somehow.

First off, let me give some background.

The site has a DC, Exchange (running 2010 - couldnt find the right forum for this version of Exchange) and RDS server (Server 2008R2) all connected to the same domain.

Users log in and access their emails via RDS server - has been running fine since this has been originally set up.

Recently, we built a server for a new site this business has just opened, and set up a secondary DC, RDS and Exchange server - fairly basic stuff - DFS replication between the two sites which are connected via an IPsec VPN, still connected to the same domain.

Since we set up DAG between the two Exchange servers, we have intermittent issues with receiving external emails to the users' mailboxes - both at the original site and the second site (MX records still point back to the original site).

These messages appear to be getting stuck in the 'hub version 14' queue (as reported by the queue viewer in EMC). It reports the error as "451 4.4.0 DNS Query Failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain; nonexistent domain"

The only way to get these messages through is to restart the original exchange server - they then go through without issue. but only for a while - the issue comes back again later on throughout the day.

This issue has only been happening since the deployment of the DAG config - the mailbox copies appear to be fine - primary site says its connected, secondary site says healthy.

The other issue I am seeing - which is why im not sure if its related - is while the primary Exchange server is restarting, outlook loses connectivity to exchange altogether - It was my understanding that the DAG configuration should move the database over to the secondary site and keep its outlook clients connected - which is the whole point of this config.

Is there something I may have missed?

Exchange 2010 meeting room calendar sync issue

$

Hi People,

The ladies at the reception are having issues with Outlook 2010 meeting room calendars, they are out of syncing. Sometimes appointment are visible for the other, some times they are not showing up or they do when adding a new appointment. For example: If we look at one day with 5 room calendars near each other all looks the same except 1 meeting is not shown.

Can someone advice where to check sync settings or something like that?

I created the room mailboxes the regular way with default room settings, just granted them access so they can read/write.

Running a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64 with exchange 2010 v. 14.2.247.5

Thanks in advance.

I have had an install of Exchange 2013 on Windows 2012R2 fail.

Even after reinstalling the whole of Windows on the server, there appears to be something left on the domain that is stopping the install.

Office Web Apps Not Working

$

We are trying to get Office Web App integration completed with Exchange 2013 SP1. We have setup our OWA farm and this is working correctly as we also use Lync, and powerpoint sharing it working.

The issue we face is that Exchange seems to be completely ignoring the fact that we have configured the WACDiscoveryURL .. this has been configured, but we are not getting any event 141 or 142 in the logs that indicate either success or failure to connect.

When trying to open a powerpoint document from OWA, we get the standard Outlook Web App rendering of the document rather than the Office Web Apps.

Before the upgrade to SP1 we did see the office web app load, although not completely as there were some other issues, now its as if its not even configured.
