Can I temporarily disable a domain in Exchange?

$

0

A client has two separate companies each with a unique email domain. One has been moved to Exchange, the other is still on a GMail hosted domain while we prepare to cut them over. The company on GMail can send messages to the company on Exchange, but the company on Exchange cannot send email to the company on GMail. I take it that, because of the domain conflict, the Exchange server attempts to send these messages to the unused Exchange accounts instead of their GMail accounts.

So my question is, is there a way we can temporarily disable the domain for the company that is using GMail until we are ready to change them over, so that emails sent to their domain will route externally to GMail instead of filling up the inboxes of unused accounts? Thanks for your help.

Hello World.

Migrating 2 New migrated child domains to 2013 Exchange Cluster

$
0
0

Link to AD thread here:

My company has merged with another.  For political reasons both brands must remain separate with no front facing knowledge of the other brand.  So OWA for example would need 2 links, one for each brand.  I am trying to think of any other areas the domains would appear to the user.  This is what I came up with.

Existing:

Company A Domain

Exchange 2003

Company B Domain

Exchange 2010

Proposed:

Create a new root neutral forest/domain.

Migrate both domains to 2 new child domains under this new root/forest

Bring the domain to 2012 R2

Create a single Exchange 2013 cluster

Migrate both company mailboxes to new cluster retaining original email addr but have a new neutral recipient policy

What is the best way to accomplish this?

Where exactly does Exchange sit (resource domain)?

How can I have logical separation for each brand to have their own OWA but talking to the single cluster?

Thanks!

I have tried installing Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 5 on our server but it is failing at the Mailbox role: Transport Service section with the following error. I am running the command prompt as Administrator. Any help would be great.

Exchange Server 2013 setup / coexistance Exchange 2010

So started setting up Exchange 2013 and ran into a random issue regarding the OAB. Resolved by deleting/recreating the OAB in Exchange 2010.

My issue now is setup will not complete, just tells me an "Incomplete Installation Detected" starts to resume the installation.   Upon "next" I receive just a hanging screen of "Setup Progress" which goes no where.

Exchange Server 2013 System Requirement

Hello all,

I have SBS 2003 installed in our system which runs active directory and exchange server 2003 on the same server hardware, and I was wandering if I would be able to use active directory from SBS 2003 in Exchange server 2013. In the TechNet website, it only includes Windows server 2003 standard and enterprise edition. Is SBS included in the list?

We will be installing Exchange server 2013 on windows server 2012 on a different server hardware and previous server will only work as AD and domain controller

Exchange Installation Error on Mailbox role: Transport Service Step

The error I receive occurs at 47% of the Mailbox Role: Transport Service installation.  The details of the error are as follows:

The Exchange Server setup operation didn't complete. More details can be found in ExchangeSetup.log located in the

Also, when opening the setup log I have this:

I have done a ton of searches trying to find a resolution to this error and there are two pages with a similar issue for Exchange 2007 but after trying the solutions suggested, the installation still fails with the same error.

http://exchangetroubleshooting.blogspot.com/2011/05/unable-to-run-preparead-command.html/

Some additional information:

This is a clean installation of Exchange 2013 in a forest that has never had exchange.

The domain and forest preparations run without errors and are at functional level of 2003.

The Exchange server has all prerequisites installed for a Mailbox server role and is running on a VM with Server 2012 as the OS.

This error occurs on other VMs as well that we are trying to implement as mailbox servers in the same forest.

I am running the installation as an enterprise, schema, domain admin.

Thanks for your help in advance.

HDD space missing - calculation inside

Hi,

on my Exchange (it`s a 2010 Version, but couldn`t find a category for this) i have the following configuration:

Mailbox 1 is located on a partition with 300GB of HDD size, which has 43GB left (physical)

I run: Get-MailboxDatabase -Status | Select-Object Server,Name,AvailableNewMailboxSpace
-> Result 170,00 GBwhitspace

after this, i run: Get-MailboxDatabase "DB" | Get-MailboxStatistics | %{$_.TotalItemSize.Value.ToMB()} | Measure-Object -sum -average -max -mi
-> Resut, Sum 16 GB Total itemsize

So, alltogether we have 43GB pysical HDD + 170GB Whitespace + 16GB Totalitemsize= 229GB
Total HDD size 300GB - 229GB makes = 70 GB

So, my question is where is this 70GB located or is there something wrong with my calculation?

Best regard

Exchange 2013 failed CU1 to CU5 update. Trying to get CU1 working again

$

Hello all,

Currently running a single server installation of Exchange 2013 CU1 on Server 2008 R2.

Checked prerequisites for updating to CU5 and all looked good.

Launched the CU5 install via GUI, not command prompt, which from what I remember when I installed CU1 using the GUI didn't work very well.

Anyway, CU5 failed telling me I have to uninstall CU1. Checked a couple forums and found the same answer.

Tried to uninstall CU1 via Programs and Features, but that failed because it couldn't find a file. Also tried Change and that errors out saying the installation failed and to run setup from an installation media location.

So, I enabled the services that where disabled by either the CU5 install or the CU1 uninstall and started chasing and correcting errors. I've got it to the point that where it looks like everything is working, but I can't send or receive. I'm trying to find an error message somewhere, but I'm not having any luck finding any.

I've tried to use the Queue Viewer and suspend the queue, but nothing shows up in the queue. I've looked at send and receive connectors and they look OK.

I've been up all night and I'm at a loss right now and could really use some help getting this train back on the tracks.

Thank you,

Dennis

Exchange 2013 Legacy users cannot access OWA

Hi

I am migrating from ex2007 to ex2013 and users on ex2007 cannot access OWA via thehttps://mobile/owa but can access OWA via https://legacy/owa. The legacy users get an 500 error when using mobile/owa. Ex2013 can access OWA usinghttps://mobile/owa just fine

It appears that exchange 2013 is not redirecting to the legacy mailboxes.
I have created internal and external DNS records that point to the legacy email server
I have created a tmg publishing rule for the legacy host name
I have configured DNS records that point mobile.contoso.com to the new exchange 2013 server
I have configured OWA on the exchange 2007 OW virtual directory with the namespace  legacy.contoso.com/owa

Can anyone tell what else I can check?

I have posted question on other resources as I running short of ideas

Cheers

Certificates for Office 365 Hybrid Exchange 2010 Exchange Online v15

We need to set up a hybrid server to allow us to begin moving mailboxes to Exchange Online. We created a new Server 2012 R2 server with Exchange 2013 SP1 to act as our Hybrid server. Reading the literature leaves me with questions about what certificates I need.  My understanding is that the certificates in play on the on-premise Exchange 2010 servers don't need to be changed.

I've looked at the TechNet article "Certificate requirements for hybrid deployments" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh563848(v=exchg.150).aspx

Certificate requirements for the new Exchange 2013 SP1 server are still unclear to me, I think the new server needs a SAN certificate with:

Hybridserver.domain.edu

autodiscover.domain.edu

EWS.domain.edu

Can anyone clarify?

When I try to re-run the setup, it fails at the same spot. I can't use the ECP nor the Shell to remove the Receive Connector (it is just a receive connector for the MFP).

Is there any way to remove this receive connector with Powershell not working?

(It looks like this is the problem: http://exchangemaster.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/incorrectly-adding-new-receive-connector-breaks-exchange-2013-transport/ but since I can't get a shell to run in this failed upgrade state I can't take the recommended fix nor just remove the connector.)

CAS Array or CAS Server for URLs

Hi there,

I've just deployed a fresh CAS and setup a CAS Array, a second CAS will be put in with the next few days once I've sorted the main config out.

I've been going through sorting out the URLs and asking myself a few questions. Can or Should I be using the CASArray name in some of the URLs instead of the CAS host name. For example :

On the "Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -InternalUrl" im using https://CasArray.domain.com/ews....."

however on the "Set-ClientAccesServer - AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri" im usinghttps://CasServer1.domain.com/autodiscover...

Same for "Set-OabVirtualDirecotry -InternalUrl" = https://CasServer1.domain.com/OAB"

Also "Set-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -InternalUrl" = https://CasServer1.domain.com/autodiscover...

So my question is should I be using the Array name for any of these URLs or is that only used for the EWS InternalUrl

Any help here would be great.

Regards

Exchange 2010 SP3 - Trying to enable internet calendar sharing following this article:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607475(v=exchg.141).aspx

Having trouble with the following step:

Use the Shell to enable the publishing virtual directory

Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -Identity "CAS01" -ExternalUrl "<URL for the CAS01>" -CalendarPublishingEnabled $true

From shell:

[PS] C:\windows\system32>Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -Identity "MYSERVERCAS" -ExternalUrl "mail.myserver.com" -CalendarPublishingEnabled $true
The operation couldn't be performed because object 'MYSERVERCAS.DOMAIN.LOCAL\MYSERVERCAS' couldn't be found on 'DOMAINCONTROLLER.DOMAIN.LOCAL'.
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Set-OwaVirtualDirectory], ManagementObjectNotFoundException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 6318C04C,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.SetOwaVirtualDirectory

[PS] C:\windows\system32>

Cans some please assist. What is the correct syntax to get the virtual directories created for anonymous internet calendar sharing.

We're planning to apply Exchange 2013 SP1 CU in our mixed 2010 / 2013 environment. We'd also like to apply Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 5 as well. Are there any gotchas or best practices on what update to apply first?
