Load Balaning Not Working Correctly - F5 (SSL Offloading)

$

We have deployed Exchange 2013 Sp1 with CU5 and have configured it for SSL offloading per this Microsoft article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn635115(v=exchg.150).aspx

We have installed the certificate on all of our Exchange 2013 servers (5 combined CAS/Mailbox servers) that we are using on our F5 load balancer.

The problem is, if we have more than just one server active in the load balancing pool, you can't login via Outlook web.  It looks like it's going to log you in. but then immediately kicks you back to the login screen.  If we just have one server in the load balancing pool, you can login and everything works as it should.

We have a case open with F5, but they seem to think they have only seen this problem when the SSL certificate doesn't match across all of the nodes.  but in our case it does.  I have escalated the case to see if they can troubleshoot more.  but is there something more I need to do besides what is in the article above?  We have all of our URLs set correctly on all nodes.

I tried bypassing the load balancer and trying to use DNS round robin as a test, but HTTP headers confirmed I was only getting kept on one node once I attempted to login.

We are using F5 load balancers and setting up the configuration via the latest version of their Exchange iApp template.

Exchange 2007 to 2013 Migration Outlook Anywhere keeps asking password

Hi all,

i'm migrating an Exchange 2007 Server with all roles installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2 Exchange 2013 SP1 Servers (1 Cas and 1 Mailbox) installed on Windows Server 2012 R2.

I installed Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13 for coexistance and everything was ok until i switched to the new 2013 CAS.

After that the client using Outlook Anywhere started asking for password.

I configured the Outlook Anywhere with these settings:

Exchange 2007:

OA Hostname mail.domain.com

Client Authentication NTLM

IISAuthenticathion Basic, NTLM

SSL Required True

Exchange 2013

OA Hostname mail.domain.com

Client Authentication NTLM (Both internal and external)

IISAuthentication Basic, NTLM

SSL Required True (both internal and external)

Before switching to 2013 Cas everything works smoothly and the Outlook clients receive NTLM as HTTP Proxy authentication.

After switching to 2013 Cas, test users migrated on 2013 Mailbox Server are ok, but Outlook users on Exchange 2007 Server get Basic as HTTP Proxy authentication and continue asking for credentials.

In the Exchange 2007 server i configured the host file to resolve servername and servername.domain.local with the ipv4 address to avoid issues regarding IPv6 with OA in Exchange 2007.

Using Microsoft Connectivity Test i receive the error "RPC Proxy can't be pinged - The remote server returned an error: (500Internal Server Error"

Any Ideas?

Thanks for your Help

Edge 2013 sp1 with exchange 2010 organisation.

Dear reader,

I have an exchange 2010 sp3 organisation with 1 client access server with hub transport and a 2 node DAG. Can I install a stand alone exchange 2013sp1 Edge role on a seperate machine in DMZ and subscribe the exchange 2010 hub transport to it. This in preparation to move to exchange 2013sp1 later this year. The current exchange 2010 edge role is installed on a TMG 2010 machine. Since TMG 2010 is dropped and we also have issues with the current edge's mailflow, i'd like to have a dedicated Exchange edge.

Best regards,

Ruud Boersma

MSExchange Availability 4002 Event ID Errors

Hi,

We have recently installed a new Exchange 2013 server alongside with Exchange 2010. Everything seems to be good apart from the Exchange 2010 Server keeps logging these errors against the Exchange 2013 Server:

<snip>

I was reading on some forums before posting this and someone resolved a Event ID 4002 by running this command on the Exchange 2010 Server:

Get-ClientAccessServer | Add-ADPermission -AccessRights ExtendedRight -ExtendedRights "ms-Exch-EPI-Token-Serialization" -User "MyDomain.com\Exchange Servers"

Question is.. do you recommend that running this would fix the issue? Am I right in doing it?

Any other thoughts would be welcome if I am off track with that..

Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade process

$

I am preparing to apply SP1 to my Exchange 2013 environment. I have a set of Exch servers in two locations. Each has 2 CAS servers and 6 mailbox servers. I found the following link which explains how to apply updates to the DAG servers.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298065(v=exchg.150).aspx

I have not found information in relation to the CAS servers. Should the CAS servers be updated before or after the DAGs? My CAS servers are in a HLB. Should I just disable one CAS server in the HLB VIP while I update it? Is there a specific process for upgrading the CAS servers. A way to put them in/out of maintenance?

Thanks!

Tom

Exchange 2010 - New Global Address List Displays Hidden Mailboxes.

$

Due to the proliferation of IT related Distribution Groups, I'm creating a separate address book policies for IT users and Non IT users so that each groups will have their own address book policy and default address list.  I've already been using an Address Book Policy for our global user base so that address book updates happen quickly and all of that works great.

In my case, I'm using a custom attribute to define the IT related distribution groups.

I'm creating new default address list to include in the default Address Book Policy which excludes the IT Distribution Groups.  I've assigned the new Default Address Book to the policy which is created as such:

RecipientFilter              : ((CustomAttribute1 -ne 'IT') -and (((((((((((RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -or (Recip
ientType -eq 'MailUniversalDistributionGroup'))) -or (RecipientType -eq 'DynamicDistribu
tionGroup'))) -or (RecipientType -eq 'MailContact'))) -or (RecipientDisplayType -eq 'Con
                               ferenceRoomMailbox'))) -or (RecipientDisplayType -eq 'SyncedConferenceRoomMailbox'))))
LdapRecipientFilter          : (&(!(extensionAttribute1=IT))(|(&(objectClass=user)(objectCategory=person)(mailNickname=
                               *)(msExchHomeServerName=*))(&(objectCategory=group)(groupType:1.2.840.113556.1.4.804:=8)
                               (!(groupType:1.2.840.113556.1.4.804:=2147483648))(mailNickname=*))(&(objectCategory=msEx
                               chDynamicDistributionList)(mailNickname=*))(&(objectClass=contact)(mailNickname=*))(msEx
                               chRecipientDisplayType=7)(msExchRecipientDisplayType=-2147481850)))

RecipientFilterApplied       : False

When I switch my test users to the new policy, the Distribution Groups that I want to hide via the custom attribute are hidden as expected.

The problem is that under this policy, all of the mailboxes that are hidden from the GAL are displayed.   Is there a way to change this?  Note that the RecpientFilterApplied property is set to False.  In the default it is set to True as is the case in my "default" Default Global Address List"

I suspect this might be the issue, but I can't figure out how to change this.  when I run Set-GlobalAddressList, I get the error that:

A positional parameter cannot be found that accepts argument '-recpientfilterapplied'

Migration of users' mailboxes across local mailstores failed

We have 4 mailstores on our Exchange Server 2010 SP1. When we try to migrate the users from mailstore1 & 2 to mailstore 4, it fails. However, there is no problem to migrate users' mailboxes from mailstore 3 to mailstore 4.

We did find our mailstore 1 &2 were corrupted but already repaired without errors.

Anybody can help?

Thanks,

Luc

To migrate public folders, I have been following this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj983799%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

However, this customer's public folders are exceeding well over 50GB. There are contacts and a calendar. I am looking for assistance/advice on downsizing public folders for migrating to Office 365.

Exchange 2013 autodiscover returned Namespace for OAB is not what I expected

$

Hello,

I've installed Exchange 2013 in an Exchange 2007 environment.  I have Exchange 2013 servers (CU5) in 2 AD sites (US and UK) and I'm connecting with Outlook 2013 internally via Outlook Anywhere.  Our main site is in the US and secondary site is in the UK.  I've created two namespaces - mail.domain.com for the US and mailUK.domain.com for for the UK.  I've set up the OWA, ECP, OAB, Outlook Anywhere and AutodiscoverInternalUri to use these.  The names point to a E2013 server and not E2007.  I also have a second OAB generated in the UK site.  When I'm on a UK workstation, in the UK AD site and on a domain joined machine (SCP lookup), I start outlook and run the test email autoconfig, it returns the correct namespaces for EWS, OOF and UM but the OAB is pointing to the US namespace.  For example:

Availability Server: https://mailuk.domain.com/ews.Exchange.asmx

OOF URL: https://mailuk.domain.com/ews/Exchange.asmx

OAB URL: https://mail.domain.com/oab/OabGuid

UM URL: https://mailluk.domain.com/ews/UM2007Legacy.asmx

The GUID for the OAB is correct (UK OAB) but it's connecting to the US server and coming back to the UK server for the OAB.  The US databases are configured with a different OAB than the UK databases.  It looks like autodiscover is returning an internal OAB URL from one of the US servers.

Doesn't autodiscover return the OAB URL based on the location of the mailbox (UK) and the OAB GUID?  Can anyone see something that I'm missing?

Thanks

Migration issue - X-OWA-Error: SDServerErr;Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.StoragePermanentException

Im in the middle of a rather large migration and a few users are see the below error when trying to log in to OWA:

X-OWA-Error: SDServerErr;Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.StoragePermanentException

I cant find much on this error other than the enable inheritance permissions fix which all these accounts already have.

Has anyone else come across this before?

X-OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.NotSupportedWithServerVersionException can't access 2007 mailbox from 2013 server

$

This one is driving me absolutely crazy,  hours and hours spent on this with no luck.  This is 2007/2013 env.  The issue is, if I move a mailbox to 2007 then 2013 OWA is fine, then if I move the mailbox back to 2007 I can't access the mailbox via OWA when going through a 2013 CAS server.  yes I've read the posts about permissions inheritance etc.. yes I've cranked up AD and OWA logging nothing.. yes I've imported the IIS logs into log parser and I'm seeing various errors mostly 302.  Yes, I've ruled out 2007 servers, it's 2013.  If I recreate the mailbox it works then when move back and forth from 2007 to 2013 problem re-appears.  Yes, I have dumped AD attributes and compared them with working and non working mailbox can't find anything.  Yes, I've rebooted servers.  Yes this happens with multiple mailboxes.

In fact I have this example right now makes no sense.  I have two 2013 servers, if I go through the 2013 servers CAS servers to access the mailbox using OWA that resides on the 2007 server, it works through one server and the other it doesn't with the above errors.  I'd love to hear suggestions.. I'm at the end of my rope

Can not send email from 2013 to 2010 server?

$

I've got an Exchange 2010 and 2013 coexistence scenario (migration project). I'm not able to send an email from a mailbox residing on Exchange 2013 to a mailbox residing to Exchange 2010. I've tested the following with powershell send-mailmessage:

Send-MailMessage -Body "" -To User2013 -SmtpServer 2010server -From "" -Subject "" > succesfull
Send-MailMessage -Body "" -To User2013 -SmtpServer 2013server -From "" -Subject "" > succesfull
Send-MailMessage -Body "" -To User2010 -SmtpServer 2010server -From "" -Subject "" > succesfull
Send-MailMessage -Body "" -To User2010 -SmtpServer 2013server -From "" -Subject "" > NOT succesfull
I also can send an email from an user on the Exchange 2013 server to our mailgateway (smarthost). I've added no additional receive connectors on the Exchange 2013 server. The email that's not delivered remains in the Exchange 2013 queue. Exchange 2010 is still the main email server so all messages are delevired to this server (have not moved mailboxes yet).

We've got one 2010 server and one 2013 server with all roles installed.

What am I missing here, or will this work when I make Exchange 2013 the dedicated server?

Thnx Remco

Cannot send mail from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007

I have anExchange 2007server with all roles in the same server (Version: 08.03.0327.001 ) on a Windows 2008 R2 server. I have now installed two Exchange 2013 servers both with CAS and MBX roles on Windows 2012 servers (full patched). There is also a DAG between the new servers. All mail goes through a BorderWare besides the internal mail.

I can send mail from both environments to the Internet. I can also send internal mail from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.But the problem is that I am unable to send from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007. I've debugged, but not solved the problem and there are few articles on the Internet.

Any suggestions?

Edge 2013 role with exchange 2010 organisation

Hi,

I have installed an edge 2013 cu5 stand alone in DMZ. I have an exchange 2010 cas server and separate database server on the intranet. How am I suppose to manage the edge 2013, since ecp it not installed as a part of this role?

I'm not yet upgrading to cas2013, so I do not have ecp. Can I install ECP seperatly on the edge2013?

Best regards,

Mailbox Move stuck on StatusDetail Relinquished

Hi,

I am trying to do mailbox moves from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 CU5. This morning they were working great for a few users with no issues. Mailboxes were about 1GB.

Now when I move a mailbox it goes into a StatusDetail of Relinguished and does not proceed past 0%

What does this status mean? Should i restart the Mailbox Replication Service? I was not sure about restarting the service as I have live users and dont want to disconnect them from their mailboxes..

Please help..

I am trying to install Exchange 2013 CU5 but when it is trying to prepare organization point I get the following error.

After Public Folder Migration 2010 to 2013

Last week I used technet page to migrate our exchange 2010 public folders over to exchange 2013. I'm still new to exchange management so I'm trying to understand what to do next.

The migration move showed 100% complete and successful and now show up as a mailbox in the 2013 admin center. I thought to myself Great! I did it. So I attempted to decommission my 2010 exchange server.

I attempted to remove my public folder database in the 2010 EMC and it tells me the database still contains folder replicas.

I found a couple options as possible fixes, either to remove it in ADSI edit or delete the files in the folder. I just want to make sure doing so won't effect the 2013 public folders.

Or should I do this a different way? Thanks in advance.
