Exchange 2013 - can no longer move mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Ex 2013.

$

Migrating to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010. Created Ex 2013, moved some mailboxes OK. Then could no longer move mailboxes. No errors. The Migration email says complete. Synced: none, Total Mailboxes: none.

Tried several mailboxes. Same result.

Ex 2010 is SP3 RU6, (at least it says RU6 is installed in Programs/Features. The build is for SP3 w/o RU6???)

Ex 2013 is SP1 aka CU4.

How to proceed???

Question regarding the rule of thumb regarding Exchange proc cores ratio to GC proc cores

$

Hi all,

I am studying towards my MSCE Messaging for Exchange 2013 and came across on CBT nuggets a statement regarding a rule of thumb when it comes to processor cores on Exchange 2013 server to GC

so Greg Shields from CBT nuggets says that the ratio should be

4:1 on x86 domain controllers
8:1 on x64 domain controllers.

So is he talking about 1 mailbox server role with 8 processor cores to 1 processor core on a x64 domain controller? what if there is already a heap of servers using that GC? In our datacentre we have 2 x64 domain controllers but also a whole range of servers on that server network.

Also what if you have 2 mailbox server roles? are we then talking 16 : 2 ?

Hope someone can help clarify this.

Exchange 2010 to 2013 migration, what to do with arbitration mailboxes on old server and disconnected mailboxes?

$

Hello,

I am in the process of decommissioning my Exchange 2010 server from Production, all mailboxes and public folders have been moved to Exchange 2013.

I have a few questions that relate to the decommissioning process.

I've migrated all user mailboxes to 2013, but in Exchange 2010 MMC GUI I see all the migrated users in the "Recipient Configuration > Disconnected Mailbox". This is due to exchange retaining mailboxes for a certain time before removing them, should I force remove all these disconnected mailboxes before I remove all databases and uninstall Exchange 2010?

There are a few mailboxes left that I don't know what to do with, these are

Name                      Alias                ServerName
----                      -----                ----------
SystemMailbox{1f05a927... SystemMailbox{1f0... xxx-mail
FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8... FederatedEmail.4c... xxx-mail
SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29... SystemMailbox{e0d... xxx-mail
SystemMailbox{bb558c35... SystemMailbox{bb5... xxx-mail01
Migration.8f3e7716-201... Migration.8f3e771... xxx-mail01

My Exchange 2010 is "xxx-mail" and my Exchange 2013 is "xxx-mail01", what do I do with the SystemMailbox and FederatedEmail mailboxes on Exchange 2010? Are these safe to remove? What is their purpose?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

Our company used to use Lotus Notes as email but now we want to change to Exchange. I installed an Exchange server in our AD without any problem. But when I use the web Exchange Admin Center trying to add user mailbox. I found that I can only add one at a time. Is there any way I can add all our AD users' mailbox at one time??

Anyone can help me on this.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Exchange 2003 migration to 2010; anyone can send as anyone

$

I have been handballed an issue post an Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 migration. The old exchange server has been completely decommissioned as far as I can tell.

The remaining issue is that now any user can send as any other user despite the permissions not being in place.

I have checked the ADSIEdit.msc permissions as detailed here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/df365e57-80b0-4d60-890d-72c36742b072/mailbox-permissions-send-as-anyone-can-send-as-anyone?forum=exchange2010

I have checked all other user permissions that I can find.

There seem to be a lot of articles with people having a similar issue but none with a common resolution.

Is anyone able to help with this?

Exchange 2010- I have current setup of hosted Exchange 2010 without SP1 installed.

I manually used AD to manipulate the hosted tenants security settings, so that databases cant see each other on the same box, I'm not sure if upgrading to Exchange 2010 sp1 will cause an issue with my current setup?

Upgrading to exchange 2013 from 2010 installation error

Hi Guys

I know this topic has been done to death, but I have an odd situation. When I attempt to upgrade exchange 2010 to 2013, I get the inconsistent state error.

Scenario:

I have inherited this active directory and found that

  • An old 2003 exchange server was turned off, and delete after 2010 was put in place. Meaning that I can't "uninstall" it cleanly

I've tried asdiedit to remove the entry for the exchange 2003 server, however even after rebooting the setup still fails.

Any ideas as to how I could fix this AD problem? The 2010 server is currently sending mail fine, so I know it's working properly.

TIA!

Customer Experience Improvement Program

Hi,

I am trying to install an Exchange 2013 in an enviroment with an "old" Exchange 2010 server.

But I get this error when i run the setup.exe in Powershell:

Customer Experience Improvement Program for the organization is set to False by your Organization Admin. You can't enable the Customer Experience Improvement Program for this server.

I have then logged on the Exchange 2010 server and enabled Costumer Experience Improvement Program through the Management Console, but I still get the error in the Exchange 2013 installation.

If I run "Get-OrganizationConfig" on the Exchange 2010 server, I can see that "CustomerFeedbackEnabled" is set to True.

What am I missing??

Exchange 2007 to 2013 virtual directories

I'm gathering information before I do my transition to Exchange 2013.  One thing I'm not sure about is the virtual directory for OWA.  The information I have gathered states to change the internal/external URL to legacy.domain.com.  However my virtual directory for OWA are not defined. How do I approach that?  do I just not set anything?

Thanks

Need a step by step process to migrate from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013

I have a very small environment.  I have one Exchange 2010 server installed with all the roles.  I would like to install Exchange 2013 into my environment and then migrate all the settings from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.

Can the Exchange 2013 server being in the environment before I am ready to move all the configurations to the new server.

Is there step by step process for a small environment on how I can get all my settings configured in 2013?

I have about 25 mailboxes and a couple of public folders.  I also have my old step by step process from 2007 to 2010.  Is that very similar?

Any help would be appreciated.

Migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2013

$

I know there isn't a migration path for Exchange 2003 but has anyone tried any type of work around?  I'm thinking about moving one of my customers users mailboxes to PST files and them importing them into Exchange 2013 on a 2012 server.  Has anyone had any experience doing this?  Below are the details of what I have and what I was thinking about doing:

Small Network - approx. 10 users

Server 2003 Sp3 standalone AD DC with Exchange 2003

Would like to move straight to Server 2012 with Exchange 2013

If I export the mailboxes and uninstall Exchange from the 2003 server will Server 2012 join the domain and upgrade the existing AD schema (forest and domain)?  If it would, could I then install Exchange 2013 on that server, create the mailboxes for the users and import the PST files?

Just wondering if anyone has tried this, or something similar.  They don't have an extra server to move everything to 2010 first so it's either a workaround or move them to Exchange 2010 (which Microsoft has quit selling).  I'm sure this will put a lot of small business VARs in a bad situation.

(Just as a side note) Is it true that Dell and HP have quit selling Windows 7 Pro? My vendor still sells it and will for 18 more months.

Certificate Authority for Exchange 2013

Dear,

I will install exchange 2013, whether to install the Certificate Authority role also?

If it is necessary, to install this CA, is simply combined with ADDS server, Exchange Server or a separate server?

Thanks

"The Exchange server for the database object "Mailbox Database 0637172224" wasn't found in Active Directory Domain Services. The object may be corrupted."

Getting REAL frustrated installing Exchange 2013. Tried to install MSDN Exchange 2013 and then update it with CU3 and that failed all over the place with exceptions.

So I am trying to install a "fresh" CU2 installation from command line and it goes quite a long way in the setup and then fails at  Mailbox Role: Mailbox service. Fails trying to mount the database with "The Exchange server for the database object "Mailbox Database 0637172224" wasn't found in Active Directory Domain Services. The object may be corrupted."

As previously mentioned I did a complete error free install with MSDN 2013, no problems. Previous to CU2 install I installed all prerequisites, setup/ps, setup/PreapreAD, setup /pd.

Done searching for answers as this is gotten to be more than a headache. The goal here is to migrate Exchange 2007 to 2013 and I need at least CU2.

Any idea's???

Exchange Domain Change

$

Here's a fun one that hopefully someone can give me a hand with.

2008 R2 servers, Exchange 2013.

three years ago setup internal domain as M***.com.  Email was hosted on web under their domain of M****acceptance.com with all their emails as such.  Fast forward to January this year.  Setting up Exchange 2013 on system, external (Internet facing) is mail.m****acceptance.com, but the internal names are still mail.m***.com.  We don't own the m***.com domain but there is no mail.m***.com operating either, which was a lucky break.  Our security certificates cover the m***acceptance.com domains, but can't cover the m***.com domain since we don't own it.  I have pretty much worked around the security certificate mismatch warnings since the only thing wrong is m***.com is not on the certificate.

So I thought, why not just go through and rename the domain (all the desktops are virtual on one of the servers) since it primarily affected the servers.  Wow, all of a sudden red flags everywhere about not renaming domains, but I found a bunch of conflicting ways to handle this issue.

so what I am asking is, how do I change the internal domain with an Exchange 2013 server on it, to a name that the Exchange server is already using for communications (m***acceptance.com).  mail.m***acceptance.com is already a resolved FQDN on the internet.

So, if I am successful in changing the internal domain, it will stop the 200ms TCP latency between the servers because of the constant security certificate issues, and smooth operations since I won't have two different domains to mess with on the same server (external and internal).

Gracefully remove Exchange 2013 from a coexistence environment with 2010

$

How can I gracefully remove Exchange 2013 from a coexistence environment with Exchange 2010? I have looked for step by step instructions without success. Since I can't get mail flow to work on the new server, (we've already paid someone seven hours at $185/hr to figure out why SMTP will not listen on port 25), I would just like to start over. Do I need to also reload the OS and give the server a different name because of Active Directory integration?

I want to list all the Archive Mailboxes in a specific database with email ID column. How to achieve?

MAy be everyone has this difficulty in extracting the details of Archive mailbox into csv with folowing columns

1. For the purpose of Migration of all the Archive mailbox from one DB to another for  cleanup activity we need the email of all the Archive mailboxes in CSV

2. But there is no straight way to extract it.

3. Get-Mailboxstatistics is not giving emil ID Column

PLease suggest any alternate way for doing this.

What i have tried to solve the issue with no luck is:

1- Reseed the effected Databases

2- Reset the index manually by stop the Search and Search Host Controller services and delete the index folder and start the services again in order to force it to rebuild the index

3- Restart the mailbox server that has the index issue

4- Create the AD group "ContentSubmittersand then grant Admistrators and NetworkService full access to the group as the following technet article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2807668

Any Idea will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
