Hi all.

In our organization we plan to migrate from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Exchange 2007 updated to Update Rollup 13.

Exchange 2013 with CU5 worked normally with Exchange 2007 and users from Exchange 2007 can connect to your mailboxes successfully.

After updating Exchange 2013 to CU6 users from Exchange 2007 cannot connect to your mailboxes via ActiveSync. All other services work normally.

Testing Exchange ActiveSync connectivity from web site https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com return error:
Testing of the OPTIONS command failed.
An HTTP 500 response was returned from IIS7.

In IIS log file (on Exchange 2013 server) I see HTTP error 500.

In IIS log file (on Exchange 2007 server) I see this error:

When I try to synchronize mobile device

Exchange 2013 Hybrid and Rightfax

We are in the process of planning our migration to Office 365, and one of the things we currently use in our Exchange 2010 on prem solution is Rightfax for direct faxing inbound/outbound.   The plan is to roll out exchange 2013 in hybrid mode, and I am wondering what i need to do so that faxing continues to work?

Since we will be running a hybrid, is it as simple as installing the rightfax service on the exchange server, or do I need to plan for some kind of cloud access, similar to how they borked up exchange UM integration (requires a session border controller, rather than routing through exchange on premises box).

Exchange 2010: Redirect Logging folder

I need to redirect the E:\Exchange\V14\Logging folder to L:\Logging.  Will the mklink be able to redirect the folder?

mklink /j E:\Exchange\V14\Logging folder  L:\Logging

Is there a better option?

Exchange 2013 Edge Transport Replacement

Hi all,

I have a quick question regarding a new 2013 Edge Transport that I need to move to a physical machine.

It currently resides on a VM and I would like to decommission this machine, remove the edge subscription and redeploy the same configuration on a physical box.

Do you see any issues using the same name and IP with the new box?  I know it says it is not supported to rename the edge, but If I remove it completely and redeploy?

Installing Exchange 2013 - Domain/forest prep

Hi guys

I've just installed the first Exchange 2013 server in our forest.

The server was installed in the root domain of the forest.
We have several child domains in the forest. These contains our users.
I haven't done any prepping in these domains.
The painful question is: Should I have done that? And if so, can it be done post installation of Exchange 2013?

My own test account is located in one of these child domains, and so far I haven't experienced any problems with this account using OWA.

Just want to make sure that I'm not set up for failure later in the migration.

Adding second domain in Exchange 2013

Dear all,

I am migrating our mail server from Exchange 2007 to 2013. Untill now not many problems encountered, I have set up a 2 members DAG for redundancy and most of Exchange functions and services are working like a charm (except sharing schedule's when you work with Outlook 2007 on the Exchange 2013 server).

Now comes the challenge: Our company has bought another company. They have their own domain. We need to migrate all their mailboxes to our mailserver, with as little downtime as possible. Their mail addresses needs to be kept the same, but they will work in our mail server.

I wonder if someone has experience on doing this? How can I connect the mailboxes to our domain, keeping the old known address to clients. This company delivers very critical services to diverse clients, and every 5 minutes downtime is actually too much, and changing addresses is not possible. Can someone help me with this?

All help will be appreciated!

Regards,

Cornelius

What i have tried to solve the issue with no luck is:

1- Reseed the effected Databases

2- Reset the index manually by stop the Search and Search Host Controller services and delete the index folder and start the services again in order to force it to rebuild the index

3- Restart the mailbox server that has the index issue

4- Create the AD group "ContentSubmittersand then grant Admistrators and NetworkService full access to the group as the following technet article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2807668

Any Idea will be much appreciated.

Unable to connect to Exchange CAS array

Hi Exchange experts,

we are currently have just added a new subnet in our LAN environment. previously we are using VLAN 10 (192.168.10.x/24) for both our servers and clients. Now, we have added one VLAN call VLAN 15 (192.168.15.x/24). the routing has been done between these two VLANs. VLAN 15 is able to ping VLAN 10 servers without any problem. However, VLAN 15 is only not able to ping CAS ARRAY for exchange transport. because of this, the connection from outlook to exchange server is not able to go thru the TCP, only RPC over HTTPS, which is outlook anywhere.

May I know what could be the issue? since VLAN 10 and VLAN 15 routing has been done and both are able to ping to each other, except CAS Array, I don't think there is problem with network routing.

What could be the cause of the issue. I need your kind advise.

Thanks.

I am having an issue after deploying Lync 2013 into the same Forest/Domain where Exchange 2013 is deployed. Lync 2013 and Exchange 2013 both work fine, however, when I am in the Exchange 2013 Admin Center and I edit either a Group or a Resource, I receive the following warning:

Has anyone run into this or have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I appreciate any assistance.

Exchange install fails saying server reboot is pending

The exact message:

There is a pending reboot from a previous installation of a Windows Server role or feature. Please restart the computer and then run Setup again.

Other posts say to remove:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations

But that key does not exist.  Needless to say, I have recently restarted the server after seeing this error.

Issues accessing mailboxes on 2013 mailbox server when connected to 2010 CAS front end during migration

$

We are moving from an Exchange 2010 environment (2 front end servers, 2 mailbox servers) to an exchange 2013 environment (2 front end, 2 mailbox).

Using EAC, I can administer all 8 servers.  No issues.

I created a mailbox on a 2013 mailbox server.  When I use OWA to connect to one of the 2010 front end servers, I am able to login with the account on the 2013 mailbox server but it tells me "A server configuration change is temporarily preventing access to your account. Please close all Web browser windows and try again in a few minutes. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk." If I connect to a 2013 front end server, it works just fine.   Mail flows fine between mailboxes on the 2013 and 2010 servers.

My concern is that if I move accounts over to the 2013 mailbox servers and the clients continue to access the 2010 front end servers, I'll lose connectivity for all users.  I need users to be able to access mailboxes in both environments from both sets of front end servers during the migration.

Upgrade advices...

Hello Friends,

We had been running Exchange 2013 CU2 without issue for some time. Patch CU3 was released, and recommended by Microsoft. The upgrade to CU3 failed, and we immediately called Microsoft Support. We were unable to run Exchange in its current state, we could not uninstall the patch as it had already upgraded our Active Directly Schema making Exchange 2013 CU2 incompatible, and we were unable to get the patching process to complete.

Microsoft Support worked on this issue for three days and nights, before finally getting everything working again and email started flowing once more. However, our Exchange server has never been the same. We immediately noticed strange issues that we have not been able to resolve, such as email delivery delays, an empty mail database that does nothing, yet cannot be removed, and other issues.

Service pack 1 arrived for Exchange 2013 over six months ago. However, we’ve been afraid to update our suspect Exchange server. This update performs yet another schema update, and we are afraid things may break once again.

We thought we might build another Exchange 2013 Server CU3, move all of the mailboxes to it, take down the old server, and then upgrade the new server to Service Pack 1. But, we’re not sure that this process is the best way to go about achieving healthy email functionality,  or if it will even work at all. We cannot afford any more email downtime.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks,

Stephen Barash

RBAC upgrade?

We've migrated users mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, and trying to resolve resting nuisances. One of them: now users can't change its membership in distribution groups (universal distribution groups) with Open MemberJoinRestriction / MemberDepartRestriction using Outlook.

Exploring RBAC role entries I discover that they keep reference to Exchange 2010, like this:

(Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010) Get-CalendarNotification -Credential -Debug -DomainController -ErrorAction -ErrorV
ariable -Identity -OutBuffer -OutVariable -ReadFromDomainController -ResultSize -Verbose -WarningAction -WarningVariable

Is it Ok Or I have to upgrade RBAC entries?

Specifying separate UNC path for Exchange Archive Mailbox Database

$

Hi All,

In Exchange Server 2013 SP1, is it possible to specify UNC path to a separate hardware appliance ?

In this case I'd like to create the Archive mailbox database on the CIFS share hosted by EMC Data Domain to perform the hardware based data deduplication & compression.

Does this path must also be accessible on the DAG passive node in DR data center ?

Hi,

I'm trying to test if the exchange 2013 can connect to outside through the EDGE. How can I link a internal user to a Hotmail account??

UserA@domain.local  -->  UserA@Hotmail.com

Also, is Outlook possible to create a shared account?? I mean different users can log on to the account at the same time.

Thanks.

EXCHANGE 2013 AD Topology Service crashes when a single DC goes offline

We have a single 2013 multi-role Exchange server in our environment.  I have noticed that whenever a single DC goes offline I lose connectivity to Exchange. When I look at the services on the Exchange server i see that  EXCHANGE 2013 AD Topology Service has crashed. The specific server that causes this is a DC / GC in a different site. It holds the domain naming master role.  There is a DC/GC in the same site as the Exchange server. The domain is at 2008r2 functional level. Please let me know if there is anything else I have omitted  about my environment that is pertinent to answering this question.

Thank you

My Environment there are two Sites with Exchange Server 2010: SiteA (Main) and finished the setup SiteB now.

I installed two server Multirole (cas/mbx/hub) with DAG and CAS Array. (SiteB)

The MBX servers there is one mailbox database each. (Mailbox Database 123456789 and Mailbox Database 098765432)

To remove this mailbox database i did the commands below:

Get-Mailbox -Arbitration -Database "Mailbox Database 123456789"

Out: no results

The system mailbox, federation mailbox and discover search are in other server (SiteA).

I removed the Mailbox Database 123456789 with success. But, the Event Viewer show Warning 1006, follow below:

The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service was unable to process jobs in a mailbox database.
Database: Mailbox Database 123456789
Error: Couldn't find system mailbox 'SystemMailbox{f251ed48-b560-437c-942a-b89cdeddfaaf}' in Active Directory.

Any idea if this is a issue and What to do?

Issue when adding new Exchange 2013 mailbox server

$

I've had issues whenever I provision a new Exchange server in my environment.  The latest was just done last week, Exchange 2013 CU5, clean install of Windows 2012 R2.  Previously, I've installed with other CUs and usually Windows 2012.  All Exchange servers are in the same AD site.  Full AD replication happens within 30 minutes.

Installed a new standalone MB Database server (EXMB03).   CAS service is separated to another server (EXCAS01).  When attempting to create a new mailbox, the mailbox would not be created and permissions issues would show up in the event log on EXMB03 indicating that EXCAS01 was attempting an operation that was not allowed.  This would happen for hours.

As a desperate attempt, I ran the following line:

Get-MalboxServer EXMBX03 | Add-ADPermission -Accessrights Extendedright -Extendedrights "ms-Exch-
EPI-Token-Serialization"  -User "domain\Exchange servers"

The errors stopped appearing and the mailbox was then provisioned.  Everything runs well now.  I've had this issue in the past and it seems I have to keep running this line every time I add a new mailbox database server.

This does not seem like normal behavior and was wondering if anyone else had run into an issue similar to this.
