Error During Exchange 2013 Mailbox Transport Role Install On Server 2012

I was installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012.  The server is not a DC, but is a member of a domain with a 2008 R2 functional level, and I was logged in as a domain admin.  There has never been an Exchange instance on this domain.  I got past the prerequisite checks, and the installer showed 15 steps, so I walked away.  When I came back, I saw this:

Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service

Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
          $maxWait = New-TimeSpan -Minutes 8
          $timeout = Get-Date;
          $timeout = $timeout.Add($maxWait);
          $currTime = Get-Date;
          $successfullySetConfigDC = $false;

          while($currTime -le $timeout)
          {
            $setSharedCDCErrors = @();
            try
            {
              Set-SharedConfigDC -DomainController $RoleDomainController -ErrorVariable setSharedCDCErrors -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue;
              $successfullySetConfigDC = ($setSharedCDCErrors.Count -eq 0);

              if($successfullySetConfigDC)
              {
                break;
              }
              Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An error ocurred while setting shared config DC. Error: " + $setSharedCDCErrors[0]);
            }
            catch
            {
              Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An exception ocurred while setting shared config DC. Exception: " + $_.Exception.Message);
            }

            Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("Waiting 30 seconds before attempting again.");
            Start-Sleep -Seconds 30;
            $currTime = Get-Date;
          }

          if( -not $successfullySetConfigDC)
          {
            Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Error "Unable to set shared config DC.";
          }
        " was run: "Unable to set shared config DC.".

The only option on the screen was exit, so I did.  I checked the start menu, and there were two new Exchange icons, but I did not click them.  I ran the installer again, and it detected an incomplete install, the only option was to click next to finish the install, so I clicked next.  This time, I eventually got the same error, except the screen showed "Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service."  I did install some Exchange 2010 prerquisites on the server before Exchange Server 2013 came out, and I can rebuild the server and try the install again if that would be best, but I thought I should post here first and try to work through this since the product is so fresh.  Any suggestions?

Hello,

I am experiencing something strange to the Administrator user only.  After upgarding to CU6 and applying KB2997355 the administrator cannot log into ECP but it can access OWA.  The funny thing is all other Exchange 2013 user can access OWA and ECP but the administrator can only access OWA and not ECP which gives a 500 Unexpected Error.

I delete and rebuilt the virtual directories and still nothing.

Please help!!

Thanks,

Nelson

Exchange 2013: Content Index State Failed

$

I am running two, two node DAG's with Exchange 2013.

One DAG pair is running 5 databases with Server 2012 Standard and the second DAG pair is running Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard with a single shared database.

No matter what I try, ALL 6 databases show "ContentIndexState: Failed" with "ContentIndexErrorMessage: An internal error occurred for the database or its index.".

I have tried rebuilding the indexes manually, automatically and manually copying the database files between servers.  I also receive errors when trying to failover the databases because the content index state is failed.

In my test environment I have a very similar setup working fine with no issues.

Please let me know what I can try to get this resolved.

The error I receive when running the following set of commands is:

Adding second domain in Exchange 2013

Dear all,

I am migrating our mail server from Exchange 2007 to 2013. Untill now not many problems encountered, I have set up a 2 members DAG for redundancy and most of Exchange functions and services are working like a charm (except sharing schedule's when you work with Outlook 2007 on the Exchange 2013 server).

Now comes the challenge: Our company has bought another company. They have their own domain. We need to migrate all their mailboxes to our mailserver, with as little downtime as possible. Their mail addresses needs to be kept the same, but they will work in our mail server.

I wonder if someone has experience on doing this? How can I connect the mailboxes to our domain, keeping the old known address to clients. This company delivers very critical services to diverse clients, and every 5 minutes downtime is actually too much, and changing addresses is not possible. Can someone help me with this?

All help will be appreciated!

Regards,

Cornelius

migrating from 2010 windows nlb cas array to exchange 2013 using netscaler for HLB

$

i currently have exchange 2010 sp3 setup as follows

2 cas/ht using windows nlb for array.internal.com as the nlb name

2 mailbox servers using 1 dag for replication between them.

I would like to stand up 2 new CAS 2013 sp1 servers(2012 r2) and use our netscaler hlb to load balance and do ssl offloading.
id like to use the hlb to load balance and ssl offload all possible traffic not just owa, i.e. activesync etc.
the netscaler is running version 10.5.

does anyone have any thoughts on how to perform such a migration?

id like to make this as seamless as possible for the user, so no owa name change or anything like that.

thx in advance for any help.

Upgrade advices...

Hello Friends,

We had been running Exchange 2013 CU2 without issue for some time. Patch CU3 was released, and recommended by Microsoft. The upgrade to CU3 failed, and we immediately called Microsoft Support. We were unable to run Exchange in its current state, we could not uninstall the patch as it had already upgraded our Active Directly Schema making Exchange 2013 CU2 incompatible, and we were unable to get the patching process to complete.

Microsoft Support worked on this issue for three days and nights, before finally getting everything working again and email started flowing once more. However, our Exchange server has never been the same. We immediately noticed strange issues that we have not been able to resolve, such as email delivery delays, an empty mail database that does nothing, yet cannot be removed, and other issues.

Service pack 1 arrived for Exchange 2013 over six months ago. However, we’ve been afraid to update our suspect Exchange server. This update performs yet another schema update, and we are afraid things may break once again.

We thought we might build another Exchange 2013 Server CU3, move all of the mailboxes to it, take down the old server, and then upgrade the new server to Service Pack 1. But, we’re not sure that this process is the best way to go about achieving healthy email functionality,  or if it will even work at all. We cannot afford any more email downtime.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks,

Stephen Barash

Questions about migrating Exchange 2010 to 2013

$

We currently have two Exchange 2010 servers with roles separated.  One local mailbox server without CAS in our building and a CAS with no mailboxes in a remote datacenter.

We plan to migrate to 2013 with two new servers hosting all roles on each and then shut down the 2010 servers. There will be one local and one in a datacenter for Exchange 2013 so that either server could be individually restarted without internal LAN users losing email access. (We do not want to open network access from the Internet to the onsite CAS). Is it practical to set it up this way?

How do we get the existing certificates (mail, autodiscover, and the local host name etc.) moved from the 2010 to the 2013 to the new servers when I assume they both must be running side by side for at least a short time while mailboxes are moved form 2010 to 2013?  Will we need to buy new SSL certificates since the local host machine names for the Exchange server 2013 servers will be new and there will be more than one CAS?

Edge Transport server reports connection errors, but tests OK

I’m in the process of upgrading Exchange 2007 to 2013 and I'm confused about this: I've got a 2013 Edge Transport with a subscription to my Exchange 2013 server. Every 30 minutes I get this error logged on the latter:

Failed to connect to the Edge Transport server ADAM instance with exception The LDAP server is unavailable.. This could be caused by a failure to resolve the Edge Transport server MYEDGESERVER.domain.local in DNS, a failure trying to connect to port 50636 on MYEDGESERVER.domain.local, network connectivity issues, an invalid certificate, or an expired subscription. Verify your network and server configuration.

However, when I run Test-EdgeSynchronization it always succeeds:

Problem with Exchange 2010 Public Folders after installing Exchange 2013 in my environment.

$

I currently have an Exchange 2010 server with all the roles installed.  Before installing Exchange 2013, I was able to launch the Public Folder Management Console but now I get an error.  When I installed Exchange 2013, I got an error saying I had a instance of Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, but I didn't have any of these servers left.  There was still something in AD referencing my old server. I went into ADSIedit and deleted an old administrative group.  This deletion caused my access to my public folders to get messed up.  I followed this article, http://blog.bruteforcetech.com/archives/766, and I was able to gain access back in my outlook client but I still can't see the public folders in OWA.  I also get this error when trying to access either Default or System Public Folders.  "Cannot complete the operation because there isn't an available public folder database on server 'ExchangeServer'. It was running the command 'get-publicfolder - getchildren -identity '\' -server 'ExchangeServer' "

My Public Folder Database exists and is mounted.  Any help is appreciated.

I have 3 Exchange 2013 servers in my environment. Each server is a CAS and Mailbox server. Each server is also setup in a DAG. I want to update them to SP1 and am a little confused on the upgrade process. Can I just install SP1 on one server at a time or do I need to make special considerations on which server gets upgraded first? What about the DAG? Thanks.
