Outlook Provider in coexistance

$

Hi,

We are currently in a coexistence between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013.

We have migrated around 20 pilots and have a question regarding outlook provider.

EXCH is still mapi.company.com (used in legacy environment, CASArray was mapi.company.com)

EXPR is set to msstd:mail.company.com (mail.company.com is our new proxy server bound to a HLB)

Shall we clear everything or just EXCH used for legacy MAPI/RPC?

Distribution of Mailbox Move Batches

Hello

We are in the middle of an Exchange Server 2007 > 2013 Migration.

We have a single DAG with 4 Mailbox Servers, 2 active, 2 passive between sites (fast link)

We tend to manage Mailbox Moves remotely using ISE & "new-migrationbatch" etc etc.

There is no information on the batch as to which Mailbox Server is actually doing the work of moving the mailbox and I can only presume that the Server hosting the active TargetDatabase of the mailboxes that are being moved will be.

We wondered if anyone had any recommendations or experience of running migration batches from the Servers themselves, adn if we did if we could expect to see performance improvements?

Thanks

Exchange 2013 CU6 , Exchange Power Shell Response incorrect on command "Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus *"

Hello together,

i have the following problem with exchange 2013 CU6.

After i reboot some exchange servers from DAG and i check the MAilboxdatabasecopystatus with:

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus *

The answer shows on the databases that they are "failed" or "mouting..."

in realtiy the databases are mounted and working... after some hours the powershell returns the correct values like "Mounted" or "Healthy".

why does it take so much time to show the correct information?

any ideas on this?

best,

Martin

Exchange 2010 DAG Networks

So I have (3) DAG networks showing.  I'm assuming these get created automatically.  The environment looks like this:

2 Servers running Exchange 2010, 1 DAG, Stores (S:) and Translogs (T:) are mapped to our SAN.  As you can see, Replication is enabled on all (3) networks.  Is this the correct setting?  I thought I read somewhere that replication should just go across one interface.

Exchange 2007 to 2013 Coexistence Issues during migration

Hi All,
I am currently in the process of migrating exchange 2007 to 2013. Everything has gone ok so far, but I am stuck on issues with coexistence.
A very brief rundown of my setup:
Single domain, single exchange 2007 server running all roles.
TMG Firewall
Single exchange 2013 server
Situation:
Exchange 2013 is mail.domain.com
Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com
All relevant names exist in the UCC SSL certificate
OWA:
User with mailbox on exchange 2013 goes to mail.domain.com which is pointed to TMG. Logs in fine and opens the users mailbox on 2013.
User with mailbox on exchange 2007 goes to mail.domain.com, logs into TMG, immediately get “webpage cannot be displayed” Under more information is say )HTTP 500 internal server error)
User with mailbox on exchange 2007 goes to legacy.domain.com, logs into tmg and is correctly redirected to the exchange 2007 mailbox.

Active Sync:
User with mailbox on exchange 2013 works fine pointing to mail.domain.com
User with mailbox on exchange 2007 no longer works after changed 2007 to the legacy namespace.
In exchange 2007 I have left the external url blank for ActiveSync.

Outlook anywhere:
Users with mailbox on 2013 work fine, 2007 don’t.

Internal outlook clients:
Both with mailboxes on either server work fine.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2013 server DMZ..... Bad idea!

Hello and good day to all.

I am doing an exchange 2013 lab (Novice), and in doing my research, I found that placing your server in a DMZ is a very bad idea.... Can so one please explain? and what would be the best practices in insuring that your exchange server is not attacked by any malicious user out there.

Matt

2010 public folder migration

$

Hi, I'm using http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx to migrate my 500GB of Public Folders from 2010 to 2013.

I'm up to Step 3: generate the .csv files and I've created the "name to folder size mapping file". I'm trying to perform the next step using the script:

.\PublicFolderToMailboxMapGenerator.ps1 <Maximum mailbox size in bytes> <Folder to size map path> <Folder to mailbox map path>

But regardless of running this on Exchange 2010 or 2013, I get the following result an absolute ton of these:

You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression.
At C:\PFMigration\PublicFolderToMailboxMapGenerator.ps1:67 char:59+         foreach ($familyMember in $folder.FolderName.Split <<<< ('\', [System.StringSplitOptions]::RemoveEmptyEntries
))+ CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (Split:String) [], RuntimeException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvokeMethodOnNull

I do not have any \ in my csv file. I'm thinking of skipping this script and manually create a csv file as such:

TargetMailboxFolderPath
Office1\IPM_SUBTREE\OFFICE1
Office2\IPM_SUBTREE\OFFICE2
Office3\IPM_SUBTREE\OFFICE3
Office4\IPM_SUBTREE\OFFICE4
Office5\IPM_SUBTREE\OFFICE5

I gather this would create 5 public folder mailboxes, one for each office and all existing subfolders to the \ipm_subtree\officeX would be included in that public folder mailbox. Would this approach work? One office has several mail enabled public folders in Exchange 2010, do I need to separate those folders into different PF mailboxes?

Or am I completely off track here, should I actually be creating 1 PF mailbox for every existing folder? I got over 11 thousand folders according to my name-to-folder mapping file.

Any thoughts on the error message on the script above or on how to split up the 2010 public folders into mailboxes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Access Control Entry Issue after Installing Lync 2013 into the Forest

I am having an issue after deploying Lync 2013 into the same Forest/Domain where Exchange 2013 is deployed. Lync 2013 and Exchange 2013 both work fine, however, when I am in the Exchange 2013 Admin Center and I edit either a Group or a Resource, I receive the following warning:

Has anyone run into this or have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I appreciate any assistance.

Exchange 2013 and 2010 co-existance

$

We will have 2013 and 2010 exist together for a while...we plan to move away from using Unified Access Gateway for HTTP redirection to our Exchange services and implement Kemp load balancers...two at our HQ site and two at our DR stie...

We plan to have a one arm configuration...from what I gathered...each load balancer will have a network connection and only one network connection and be on the same network as our new Exchange 2013 servers.  Can someone take a look at my config and give some input whether or not this will work and some suggestion on Ex13 urls, cert SAN names, etc.

HQKemp 2400 A    HQKemp 2400 B               DCKemp 2400 A        DCKemp 2400 B

172.16.1.104        172.16.1.105                     172.25.1.104          172.25.1.10

Virtual IP   172.16.1.106                                   Virtual IP 172.25.1.104

From the video I’ve watched for Kemp install…we’ll create the following internal DNS records for the Exchange services that will be configured on balancers.

OWA/ECP       mail.corp.local.com               172.16.1.107

EWS               ews.corp.local.com          172.16.1.108

OAB               oab.corp.local.com           172.16.1.109

ActiveSync      mobile.corp.local.co         172.16.1.110

OA                 oa.corp.local.com            172.16.1.111

Autodiscover   autodiscover.corp.local.com 172.16.1.112

Question: We will configure the Exchange services with these ip addresses linked to each service on all four load balancers? Or will DR site load balancers have different IPs configured for same Exchange services?

Exchange services are split between our two sites…meaning Outlook Anywhere is configured for our CAS servers at our DR site and ActiveSync comes to HQ CAS servers as an example…so I want all Exchange services to come through the newly installed load balancers at HQ and if they don’t respond…the Exchange services get redirected to the load balancers at our DR site. Can you give some insight on the config of load balancers as to how we can do that?

I have a question about the cert we will have. Our Microsoft rep says we should get a new wildcard cert…currently we have a UCC cert with the following SANs attached.

Will this new cert have to be installed on load balancers? If so…can you suggest some ideas as to what new SANs I need if any of the new cert with Exchange 2010 and 2013 co-existing for a while. Below are the SANs on our current UCC cert.

Outside resolvable SANs

Webmail.corp.local.com          205.223.19.25           portal.corp.local.com     205.223.27.78

Portal2.corp.local.com             205.223.19.25

Autodiscover.corp.local.com     205.223.19.25

Internal SANs

Hqcas1.corp.local.com

Hqcas2.corp.local.com

Dccas1.corp.local.com

Dccas2.corp.local.com

Owamail.corp.local.com     (this CAS Array server name that HQ CAS servers create)

What do you suggest we use for the external urls on Exchange 2013 for these services?

Our firewall guy says we’ll use same names, but I’m not sure if we try to use same name if we’ll get an error? Active Directory may say name already in use?

We plan to have firewall to just redirect requests for external urls to load balancers…sound correct? Meaning load balancer won’t have an external NIC defined…which makes it a one arm config…correct?

Recover Exchange from lost lost Exchange installation drive

Dear.

Exchange 2013 has been installed on drive D.
We lost are D drive, replaced the failed disks and mounted an empty D drive.
We start Exchange setup.exe /m:recoverserver.
The setup fails with the message that all server roles are already installed.
We started deleting some registry keys, but the setup still fails.
Does anyone has a working procedure to recover Exchange without the need of rebuilding the Server OS?

Thanks for the feedback.
Regards.

Some updated documents on one computer aren't saved on alternative computer

On my one computer, when I use some older docs from excel and word, they save in that computer, but not on my new computer.

My newer docs seem to save without issue on the new computer.  I am guessing that if I can update all my files within my server, that would fix the issues.  If that is correct, what might be the steps to do that.

Currently I am updating each doc as I am using it, but I think that is not a sure way to fix the problem and is time consuming.  Thanks for your help. JAF

Exchange 2013 - Installation to domain using Kerio

Hello,

we are planning migration from Kerio to Exchange 2013. Clients are now running on IMAP.

My concern is simple - Can I install Exchange 2013 (Mailbox and CAS) on same domain with currently running Kerio without affecting clients (MS Outlook) in any way, before we start migrating data ?

Thank you for answers.

Exchange 2013 pre-authentication & Reverse Proxy Options

$

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions on reverse proxy options that can do pre-authentication like TMG use to do? I am currently trying to deploy out a new Excahnge 2013 setup in coexistence with an existing Exchange 2010 environment which will then be migrated over. And one of the requirements is to block certain users from accessing webmail externally while still allowing others to access webmail. That is currently achieved by using a TMG server but that is going to be decommissioned along with Exchange 2010.

I have been searching online but so far I have not found anything that seemed to meet this requirement. I have seen that IIS Web Application Proxy tied in with AD FS would do the job. But there is some issue there with Excahnge 2010 still being active that won't allow it to work. Some suggestions I have seen online involved changing permissions on the IIS directory or modifying web config files but those options didn't seem like they provided a consistent result.

So I am looking for some sort of option that is either inexpensive or some means of leveraging existing Microsoft technologies to achieve my goal any suggestions would be helpful.

Exchange 2013/2010 - Co-Existence, URLs.

Hey Team,

I am sure this is well documented and i for some reason cant seem to get good solid answer. But here is my questions. what are the correct URL settings for (OWA, ActiveSync, EWS) etc for Exchange 2013/2010 in a coexistence scenario?

1) All servers in the same ad site

2) mail. autodiscover, pointed to the 2013 server

3) 2013 server is internet connected.

Am i supposed to clear all the 2010 URLs?, Just the external ones? Use a separate namespace?

Thanks,

Robert

Ok it time to renew SSL for my Exchange 2013 in a few days

I'm using Godaddy UC

is there a step-by-step specific to Exchange 2013 ?
(even on Godaddy site the info relates to 2010 not 2013 - I know its similar but...)

I found posts for Exchange 2007 & 2010 but nothing for Exchange 2013!!

Whilst I think I have a general idea... I really don't want to mess this up !!

Cumulative Update 6 (CU6) setup freezes at 100% prerequisite checks

$

Hello

I found annoying issue with CU6 setup. When you try to use GUI setup using setup.exe everything goes fine until it reaches prerequisites analysis. It goes to 100% and display "back" and "install" buton but they are not working. You cant't also finish Setup using close button. I try few times reboot and resetup again without success.

Then I try to make Schema and AD prepare using setup.exe from command line.

Then I got this error:

Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check

Prerequisite Analysis                                     FAILED
The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the local computer matches the SMTP address of recipient policy 'Default Policy'. Setup can't continue. For more information, visit (...)

It's strange because this error should be reported in GUI setup windows instead of freezing it.

When I removed SMTP Recipient address from 'Default policy', evrything goes just fine. Maybe this will help some of you.

Cheers Pacek.

SMTP Namespace Sharing between two mail system

I have used two mail server (Exchange 2013 and Linux sendmail) for mailing in the same domain like abc.com.

I have converted authoritative domain in to internal relay for sending mail in Linux mail user, and create a send connector point to Linux mail system as a smart host. in that case my exchange user send mail to Linux user and internet via Linux smart host,

then I create a receive connector in exchange server for receiving mail from Linux mail system as edge transport custom connector & permission set to anonymous, when Linux user send mail to my exchange user it queued in my exchange message queue and the error is:

Last Error:A local loop was detected.

What's the problem?
