Exchange Servers relay messages from an offline site

$

Hello guys,

I have been working on a complex project with a customer that needs to send email from a group of users from an offline site. This site is connected just a couple of hours per day.

I am not an exchange server administrator, so, forgive me if I use some incorrect terms.

The customer has its current Exchange server setup that works for every user when they are all in the office. When they go to the offline site, they would like to be able to send message and have those messages delivered when the site is online.

However, the site goes online sporadically and the users might not have outlook opened at that moment.

My current idea is to have a relay server on this site. This server would not have a mailbox, but it would "hold" the messages until the site is connected.

By the way, the connection from this site to the office is not standard TCP/IP, so a custom transport protocol would also have to be developed and plugged to the solution.

Is this possible? Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Romano

decomissioning Exchange 2003

Hello,

My current environment consists of Exchange 2003 version 6.5 (Build 7638.2:Service Pack2) server and Exchange 2010 version 14.2 (Build 247.5). All the Outlook clients point to Exchange 2010 and there is no need to keep the Exchange 2003 server anymore. How do I proceed with removing this server? Should I go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall it from there? If it fails, where do I remove all links to it from Exchange 2010 server? After that I would simply shut down the Exchange 2003. Please advise. Thank you.

Cannot run schema upgrade from server 2008

Hello

I am migrating from 2007/2010 envirement to 2013. The exchange organisation is in a subdomain so I have to to the schema upgrade an prepareAD from the top domain.

The top domain has no mamber servers, just server 2008 sp2 domain controllers så I will do it from one of them.

Have installed .net 4.5 and mgm framework 3, but I get the error message.

Setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
An unsupported operating system was detected. Exchange Server 2013 Client Access, Mailbox, and Edge Transport server roles support Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later and Windows Server 2012.

Is it not possible to run this from Server 2008 with sp2?

Cannot open ECP when only CAS role is installed

Guys,

Got a brand new install of Exchange 2013 in a co-existing 2010 SP3 environment, this is due to us moving to Office 365 and leaving an Exchange server onsite for management of mailbox attributes (Hybrid). As I understand from documentation out there only the CAS role is required on this server and the Mailbox role is not needed, however after the installation when I try to access Exchange 2013 ECP (https://localhost/ecp?ExchClientVer=15) I am presented with the logon page, once I enter my credentials I get a 'HTTP 404, website cannot be found error'. However if I install the Mailbox role it seems to work. Does anyone know why this isn't working with just the CAS role installed? My account is still on Exchange 2010 but be moved to Office 365 shortly.

Thanks.

Public Folder Migration seeing out of date PF name

I’m doing a public folder migration from 2007 to 2013. 2013 Does not support spaces in the public folder names (another issue, almost all PF have spaces, why was support removed in 2013?), so I replaced any spaces with underscores, but for some reason I still get the error below.

If I open up the PF on the MB server, I do not see that name anywhere, it looks correct 6A_Mobile_Cart, with underscores and not spaces.  Is there somewhere else I need to check this name?

OAB Distribution - E2K7 to E2K13 Migration

$

Hello - having a problem with OAB.  We have several E2K7 servers mixed with several E2K13 servers (recently deployed).  All E2K13 servers have cas/mbx roles.

Problem 1:  On E2K7 "Default OAB", set to Version4 only, disabled Public Folder distribution and added all E2K13 servers to the Web based distribution" list.  Seems this would put the E2K7 Default OAB on all E2K13 servers so I can keep all users pointing to E2K7 OAB copy and not have all users download OAB after they are migrated (can do in controlled fashion).  The problem is, I don't see the E2K7 OAB files copied to the "owa (back end)" on any of my E2K13 servers.  Better way?

Problem 2:  E2K13 "Default OAB (E2K13)" is setup to generate on 1 server (Org Mbx), GlobalWebDistribtion=True, VirtualDirectories=$null ... the OAB gen's fine on the 1 server, however it's not distributed out to my other E2K13 servers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

E2K7 MRM Migration to E2K13 Retention Policy Tag

Hello - We have E2K7 Managed Folders, we are migrating to E2K13 and will not have "Archive Mbx's". I've migrated most of my managed folders to E2K13, but ran into a couple issues:

Issue 1:  To match E2K7, created RetentionTags like "Inbox-40 days","Calendar-530 days", etc.  Also created "Default-2years".  Added these tags to a RetentionPolicy, expected the "specific" tags to target Inbox, Calendar, etc and then "Default-2years" to get all there folders (unless sub-folder of Inbox, for example, sub-folder would get 40 days".  Didn't work out that way, Default is the only tag applied, so everything is 2 years.  I've read articles, could use some further explanation.

Issue 2:  1 Managed Folder policy would not migrate ... Deleted Items.  We have Managed Folder policy set so that whenever items are moved to Deleted Items, they stay for 30 days, then are deleted.  Users can move them out, but they get moved back in by other policies, are restamped and get 30 days.  I can't find a way to do this in E2K13.  Possible?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

E2K7 / Outlook 2007 Users view E2K13 Users Calendar

Hello - we've started our E2K7 to E2K13 migration. Noticed E2K7 mbx running Outlook 2007 SP3 cannot view any E2K13 mbx calendars, get error that server is not available. If the same E2K7 mbx user opens mbx with Outlook 2013, the user can view the E2K13 mbx calendar.

Saw something about this error being related to E2K13 Address book service ... per other post, having OAB issue, so may be related.  Any suggestions, or should this work out of the box?  Autodiscovery is setup and working.

Thanks.

Free/Busy not working after mailbox migration to Exchange 2013

I'm in the process of migrating user mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

It seems that many of the users (not all) are having problems seeing free/busy once they have been migrated.  If we remove the Outlook profile and recreate it, all is good.  Problem is that this is happening to more and more people.  Everyone is on Outlook 2010

Test-OutlookWebServices -ClientAccessServer Ex2013 -identity MyName -MailboxCredential $cred    Results in:

 Autodiscover: Outlook Provider Failure
 Exchange Web Services          Failure
 Availability Service           Skipped
 Offline Address Book           Failure

The same if I run that command against the Exchange 2007 server.

What am I doing wrong?

Guidance for moving Public Folders from Exchange 2013 CU6 to Office 365?

$

Hello all

We currently have a single Exchange 2013 CU6 server with a Hybrid configuration. The goal is to move everything to O365 and then de-commission the on-prem Exchange server.

Some users have been moved to O365, and some users are still on-prem. Public folders have been migrated about one year ago from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, and are still on-prem.

I have been looking for several hours for guidance on how to move the (modern) public folders from our on-prem Exchange 2013 to O365, but all I find are detailed articles that speak about legacy PB (aka Exchange 2007/2010). This is not what I am looking for, and some stuff (like the proxy mailbox) are probably not needed at all, but it seems hard to figure out.

What I have done so far:

  • Moved the PF-Hierarchy and PF-Mailbox1 and PF-Mailbox2 accounts into an OU that get's synchronized with O365 (via DirSync) - and verified that these three accounts are present in O365.
  • Checked that the Exchange org still points to the local PB: Get-OrganizationConfig | fl PublicFoldersEnabled -> Shows Local

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?

Thanks for reading

How to manually remove mailboxes

$

I'm having problems uninstalling Exchange 2013. I cannot connect to Exchange via the Management Console or EAC, so I'm trying to uninstall and re-install Exchange. However, I cannot uninstall Exchange because it says "This mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes...", but I cannot use the Cmdlets to remove the database because I can't connect to the Management Console.

The output mentions CN's that I cannot find in Active Directory so I'm not sure what to do.

How do I manually delete the mailboxes so that I can uninstall Exchange?

I everyone,

have a win 2003 domain and client 7 64-bit . WE office changed through an office of 365 , I found the Following Link : http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/corporatesignatures.htm Building a business signature and deploy via GPO with vbs files. The script works well,

but when the user logged, at first time open outlook and try to send new email the signature doesn't appare.

Then i click file, Options , Mail, and then signing,i see here is a disabled possibility of rate changes and set the signature by design.

than i go back to email reopen "write new messages" only after this steps see the new signature. ANY suggestion ..

RBAC upgrade?

We've migrated users mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, and trying to resolve resting nuisances. One of them: now users can't change its membership in distribution groups (universal distribution groups) with Open MemberJoinRestriction / MemberDepartRestriction using Outlook.

Exploring RBAC role entries I discover that they keep reference to Exchange 2010, like this:

(Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010) Get-CalendarNotification -Credential -Debug -DomainController -ErrorAction -ErrorV
ariable -Identity -OutBuffer -OutVariable -ReadFromDomainController -ResultSize -Verbose -WarningAction -WarningVariable

Is it Ok Or I have to upgrade RBAC entries?

Restarted and redid setup, recognized incomplete installation but stops again at

Step 1 of 3: mailbox role: Transport service with error 'Unable to set shared config DC'

In examine the log file I find the following (I replaced the actual domain name with testcorp):

[11/13/2014 10:55:33.0263] [2] Active Directory session settings for 'Set-SharedConfigDC' are: View Entire Forest: 'True', Configuration Domain Controller: 'DSVR0555.testcorp.co.uk', Preferred Global Catalog: 'DSVR0555.testcorp.co.uk', Preferred Domain Controllers: '{ DSVR0555.testcorp.co.uk }'

Hi,

does anybody have any links to good sites that gives some pros/cons when it comes to the mailbox database sizes in exchange 2013? I've tried to google it - but hasn't found any good answers. I would like to know if I really need more than 5 mailbox databases or not on my exchange environment.

Questions in the migration between Forest A to Forest B

Hello Team,

We have the following environment and questions, please advise.

Environment

Forest A with the following roles:

Domain Controller

Dirsync

ADFS

ADFS Proxy

Exchange 2013 onpremise server with no mailboxes hosted in it.

Has trust between Forest A and Office 365 tenant.

All the mailboxes has already been moved to office 365 tenant.

Requirement

Want to bring in Forest B

Then going to migrate all the users from Forest A to Forest B

Then going to decommission Forest A and create trust between Forest B and office 365 Tenant.

Questions

  1. What are the implications and how long do we need to schedule downtime?
  2. Will there be any impacts?
  3. How & when can I manage (enable/disable) Dirsync, ADFS, ADFS proxy?
  4. How can I transfer these roles (Dirsync, ADFS, ADFS proxy) to Forest B?

Please advise. Thank you for your time.

User with multiple exchange accounts receives 0x8004010f error

I have multiple users using shared mailboxes under Exchange Server 2013. I have a single user the receives the send receive error listed using Outlook 2013. I've seen multiple threads on this problem. Basically deleting the users outlook profile and letting it rebuild. No luck...

The users primary mailbox sends and receives fine. However, when sending from another mailbox, it fails. Here is what I've done:

Win7, Office 2013 SP1

1) Converted the standard mailboxes that are being shared to Exchange Shared Mailboxes.

2) Added the appropriate permissions under delegation through the Exchange console.

3) Deleted the users Outlook profile.

4) Renamed c:\users\USERNAME\appdata\microsoft\outlook to outlook.old.

5) Rebooted

6) Created a new user profile when launching Outlook.

7) Allowed the users email to sync

8) Added a shared mailbox to the users profile.

9) Sent a message and it sticks in the outbox.

10) Built a new machine.

11) logged in as the user

12) Built the Outlook profile with the same user

13) let the client sync email to the primary mailbox

14) added the second mailbox and let it sync

15) attempted to send from the second mailbox, and receive the error and the message sticks in the second mailbox outbox.

New machine, same user. Is there an Exchange Server mailbox repair function? I'm making a career out of the issue. I configure my Win 8 machine/Outlook 2013 with the same mailboxes, and it works fine. I am able to send and receive from 5 different mailboxes.

please help!!
