Exchange 2013 CU6 installation hangs on step 9: Languages

$

Just had Exchange 2013 CU6 update hang on Step 9 of 18: Languages.  It was stuck at 0% for almost an hour.  I was able to get it moving forward by disabling SCEP 2012 by killing the process and deselecting check certificate for server certificate revocation in IE.  Both steps were taken nearly simultaneously and the install process for Exchange jumped up immediately. Both steps were taken based on info from:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/2a346a37-d092-4189-8a07-e8a9971925f1/cu2-installation-hangs-on-step-9-languages?forum=exchangesvrdeploy

and

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/0975bb5e-f270-4e39-abf3-70809cd98161/exchange-2010-sp3-installation-hangs-language-pack-hell

Just wanted to post that this issue was encountered on CU6 as well.  Has anyone had a similar experience or able to tell which of these two steps (or both) is actually needed?

mailbox migration failing after Upgrading CU5 -> CU6

hello fellow readers,

we have an Exchange 2007 (latest needed Patchlevel) / Exchange 2013 CU6 Environment and are now having trouble migrating user mailboxes from the Ex2007 mailbox server to the new Ex2013 server.

migration of the first boxes before applying CU6 went fine and smooth, but now all mailbox moves are stuck with the status "Qeued".

a ps command "get-moverequeststatistics karl.treiber" brings the following

Postfach 'Karl Treiber' wird zurzeit nicht verschoben. + CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument: (karl.treiber:MoveRequestIdParameter) [Get-MoveRequestStatistics], Mana gementObjectNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : [Server=SERVERNAME,RequestId=bf51511d-c7b8-4b39-ad60-caa71015cc6c,TimeStamp=10.11.2014 11 :27:29] [FailureCategory=Cmdlet-ManagementObjectNotFoundException] 9B1AC428,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Recipien tTasks.GetMoveRequestStatistics + PSComputerName : SERVERNAME.DOMAIN.local

i'm guessing that this is correct, as the migration hasn't started yet. in somehow similar threads people suggest putting the BadItemLimit higher, so i tried running ps command "set-moverequest karl.treiber -baditemlimit 9999" bringing the following

'Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService.TransactionalRequestJob' auf 'DC.DOMAIN.local' gefunden wurden.
    + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Set-MoveRequest], ManagementObjectNotFoundException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : [Server=SERVERNAME,RequestId=ab82c24b-7914-4382-8de2-34462d4993b3,TimeStamp=10.11.2014 11
   :38:01] [FailureCategory=Cmdlet-ManagementObjectNotFoundException] 285DB966,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Recipien
  tTasks.SetMoveRequest+ PSComputerName : SERVERNAME.DOMAIN.local

my guess is, that something is missing in AD - but what? DC replication is checked and working as normal. i looked up the AD object of the user, searchung for Exchange values, finding some connecting to mailbox moves, but none similar to "Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService.TransactionalRequestJob".

everything worked in CU5 -> after updating to CU6 we had serious issues with mailbox databases in dirty shutdown and called MS or help. as mentioned here this was a known error and they gave us the hotfix for that. the hotfix seemed to be so "hot" that it fixed the database problem but brought new ones, as the fix seems to not check Exchange installation path, assuming its always c:\Program Files\... (which it is not in our case).

here they suggest to run "setup /preparedomain" again, but i am worried about possible new problems.

has anyone suggestions what to check?

Migration Batch over 100 mailboxes when started goes to 0 automatically and completes.

$

Had this occur, then stop occurring, now reoccurring. I can't find any mention of it so either a bug or something wrong with our setup I guess. Really annoying because at this point I have only 145 mailboxes to move, being able to view the mailboxes by database, select those on the old and run the migration via the web interface is the simplest way to achieve this and it's just not working.

  1. Select a group of mailboxes
  2. Select migrate to another mailbox
  3. Give batch a name
  4. Start batch
  5. Batch initially shows the 145 mailboxes ready to go
  6. Refresh the Migration page shows then the number suddenly at 0
  7. Job just completes.

What am I missing here?

Excuse the weird picture but can't attach more than 2 images...

Hi Guys,

I just got an error in my event viewer and my exchange server just restarted on its own. Can anyone give me an idea what's caused the restart.

"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x000000ef (0xffffe00046634080, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)"

I just want to know is this related to exchange or just the windows 2012 r2 issue or both?

thanks

Hello,

My current environment consists of Exchange 2003 version 6.5 (Build 7638.2:Service Pack2) server and Exchange 2010 version 14.2 (Build 247.5). All the Outlook clients point to Exchange 2010 and there is no need to keep the Exchange 2003 server anymore. How do I proceed with removing this server? Should I go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall it from there? If it fails, where do I remove all links to it from Exchange 2010 server? After that I would simply shut down the Exchange 2003. Please advise. Thank you.

Mail Flow Problem During Migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013

Hi,

I am currently migrating existing Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. So far, I have successfully installed Exchange 2013. I can also migrate users to and from exchange 2013. But the problem is, User on Exchange 2013 can received emails from Exchange 2010, however, emails sent from Exchange 2013 are stuck in queue and not delivering to Exchange 2010 users.

This could be worth mentioning that I have a multiple AD sites. Exchange 2010 was deployed in site ABC whereas, I deployed Exchange 2013 in Site XYZ which was a requirement. The same can be seen in the screenshot below:-

What could be the problem with mail flow as I mentioned earlier? Can it be the problem due to different site?

Thanks.

2013 Design implementation-two sites

$

Hi!

I have a design implementation question. We are a small firm with 80 AD users, 100 mailboxes, DB store is 200 gigs and all on Exchange 2007 (Virtualized connecting to a SAN), but growing rapidly. Also, we currently have two sites in Chicago and New York(Exchange 2007 server in NY). We would like to upgrade from 2007(all roles installed on a VM server ESX 5.5 server) to 2013. Should we virtualized the Exchange 2013 or should they be physical servers? Also, since the servers will be in separate sites will I need a Load Balancer in both location? Also, should I split up the roles since we have two locations running the both roles on both servers. For example below:

1 Chicago server-CAS/Mailbox Role
1 New York server-CAS/Mailbox Role

Should I have the Chicago users connect to the Chicago Server? And the New York users pointed to the New York Server? Currently everyone connects to the mail sever in NY. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Exhcange 2013 installation error "The local domain needs to be updated", but domainprep has been run

Hello,

A few weeks ago, we ran the necessary /prepareschema /preparead /preparealldomains commands to get our Exhange 2010 Org ready to install Exchange 2013 SP1.  When we tried installing the first server today, we get an error:

[11/14/2014 23:42:02.0466] [1] [REQUIRED] The local domain needs to be updated. You must be a member of the 'Domain Admins' group and 'Organization Management' role group, or 'Enterprise Admins' group to continue.

We verified the ObjectVersion of both the Forest (15844) and Domain (13236), and it appears to be consistent with what you would expect for 2013 SP1.

Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks.

setup /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms -- Fails

I have copied this whole folder up to the Schema FSMO role holder and and the forestprep and the domainprep and the /prepareAD will not run.  I have included entries from the ExchangeSetuplog below.  I only changed the Domain Name and the exchange organization for security reasons.

Current Setup.

Originally installed Exchange 2013 SP1 on windows 2012r2 via an ISO.  This server only had Exchange 2013 installed was not an upgrade.  Our previous version of Exchange that was running on a different server was Exchange 2007.  This server is no longer apart of the Exchange organization.

Edge Transport Role as Email Gateway

Hi Experts,

We are planing to deploy exchange email server (Exchange Server-2013 Multi-Role servers) in our HQ (contoso.com) and 4 Edge Transport in other 4  client development sites(client1.com, clinet2.com, client3.com and Client4.com) so that applications running in HQ can send emails to respective client development sites domain using edge transport. Development sites are using external email address (mail.clinet1.com and so on). There is no requirement of incoming mail on Edge in Client site because they have compete hosted email solution. Just our Edge transport in client will process the mail received from HQ and will forward to Client's  External email address.

I would appreciate if you can help me to get answer for these queries.

Do you think this conceptual design is possible? Exchange solution in HQ and Edge transport in Client site and that Edge will forward emails to External Domain using send connector for  restive client's domain?

What secure (Only secure) port we need to open on Edge so that It can talk to External Email servers to deliver emails?

If we don't want to expose our Multi-Role exchange severs in HQ to Internet , do you think Exchange server in HQ  should be capable for incoming emails using one additional EDGE or still need to expose CAS services in HQ. We need Outlook, OWA and Active Sync as well for HQ (contoso.com).

What secure port we need to open in case of CAS server?

exchange server 2013 with two nic and LED 441 4.4.1 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP address

Hi All,

need some advice from all of you, I've Exchange 2013 with two NICs, one is for private and the other is for public, the current NIC configuration is:

NIC1 (private): ip private/gateway private/dns1: my primary DC/dns2: none
NIC2 (public): ip public/gateway ISP provider/no dns

So, I've multiple gateway on above configuration, is this ok? so far some message delivery with no problem but for some, we encoutered with error 441 4.4.1 and stuck in queue with delivery type is dnsconnectorydelivery.

I read some article in the Technet that mentioned it's better to have one DG instead of two, but it didn't explained which GW that should I take, so I tried it, if I remove the public IP gateway in my NIC2, the exchange client can't connect to the server, so I tried the other way around, I removed the private IP gateway in my NIC1, the problem now is the queue message viewer won't connect, it showed windows rm error.......... (i forgot to write it down).

and now i revert everything to my first original configuration, I can ping both of my Gateway either private or public with no timeout.

fyi, I've Symantec Mail Security installed in the same machine with my Exchange 2013, I tried to disable the Antivirus, but the message is still stuck in queue, so I assumed the problem is not come from the Symantec.

Thx
Irwan

OAB Distribution - E2K7 to E2K13 Migration

$

Hello - having a problem with OAB.  We have several E2K7 servers mixed with several E2K13 servers (recently deployed).  All E2K13 servers have cas/mbx roles.

Problem 1:  On E2K7 "Default OAB", set to Version4 only, disabled Public Folder distribution and added all E2K13 servers to the Web based distribution" list.  Seems this would put the E2K7 Default OAB on all E2K13 servers so I can keep all users pointing to E2K7 OAB copy and not have all users download OAB after they are migrated (can do in controlled fashion).  The problem is, I don't see the E2K7 OAB files copied to the "owa (back end)" on any of my E2K13 servers.  Better way?

Problem 2:  E2K13 "Default OAB (E2K13)" is setup to generate on 1 server (Org Mbx), GlobalWebDistribtion=True, VirtualDirectories=$null ... the OAB gen's fine on the 1 server, however it's not distributed out to my other E2K13 servers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
