EX2013 to EX2013 cross-forest migration

$

Client has a single-label domain with some problems, and has elected to migrate everything to a new "company.local" AD domain. External domain name will remain the same.

First phase is migrate from old EX2013 to new EX2013. New domain and EX2013 set up and working, bidirectional forest trust and cross-forest DNS is working. Users and computers will remain logged on to old domain/forest until a later phase, after Exchange is migrated. So initially, it will be an account forest/resource forest architecture. Later, servers, workstations and users will migrate to the new domain via ADMT, after which the old domain will go away.

I can find lots of instructions on the web for migrating downlevel Exchange cross-forest to EX2013, but have not found any documentation for EX2013 to EX2013 cross-forest.

Any suggestions? Or failing that, if I follow EX2010 to Ex2013 cross-forest migration instructions, and either use EMS, or mentally "translate" EX2010 EMC instructions to EX2013 EAC, will that work?

I have one Exchange 2013 with SP1 and I want to update to CU6, need first install CU5 and after CU6 or only install CU6?

Unable to update Exchange 2013 from CU5 to CU7

I've tried unsuccessfully to update my Exchange from CU5 to CU7.

There is only one multi-roled server and whilst PrepSchema, PrepAD and PrepDomain all successfully finish, when it comes to the actual install, it fails on the pre-requisite checks without much insight into why.

I've tried running the installer from PS, cmd, elevated cmd, after reboot, after windows updates, etc but am unable to pass the pre-req checks. Checking the exchange install logs:

Has anyone encountered this before? Or would anyone be able to point me to some more detailed logs?

Moving EX2013 mailboxes cross-forest not completing successfully

$

Followed https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee861103(v=exchg.150).aspx to move mailboxes cross-forest between 2 EX2013 servers. Pull migration.

The moves pause for several hours at 99%, and ultimately complete with CompleteWithWarning status. So far, it happens every time. Occurs even with mailboxes created and immediately moved, so it is not a problem with specific, perhaps corrupt mailboxes.

Get-MailboxStatistics -IncludeMoveReport tells me this:

Warning: Unable to update Active Directory information for the source mailbox at the end of the move. Error details: Not connected.

There's a bi-directional forest & domain trust that appears to be working, cross-forest DNS works, and it's able to "connect" to AD in the remote forest for purposes of moving the mailbox, so I'm not sure why it's finding it's "Not connected" when it cleans up at the end.

After the move request goes from 99% to 100% (after a lengthy timeout), the source mailbox still exists, and both source and destination mailboxes can be logged on to. My understanding is that the user account in the source forest should be converted to a mail-enabled user.

I'm OK with troubleshooting and solving this if it's fast. But I'm also OK with writing a PowerShell script to post-process the user account in the source forest to get over the hurdle, since this is a one-time process...the source forest will ultimately go away.

So I'm guessing the script will be as simple as--

Disable-Mailbox someuser@domain.local

Enable-MailUser someuser@domain.local

Also, I'm not clear on whether this is relevant to the MEU, but inbound SMTP will continue to go to the source mail server until migration is complete, so the source server needs to redirect mail for moved mailboxes to the destination server. Both servers have the same external domain. I'm thinking this ends up being handled by a Transport Rule I can create in the same script, so the internal, secondary SMTP address stamped on the mailbox by Email Address Policies should do the job. But if there's something I need to include in Enable-MailUser, please advise.

Having Issues With Configuring Push Notifications For OWA For Devices (On-Premise Exchange 2013)

$

Hello,
I am having issues receiving any push notification on OWA Apps for Devices. My Exchange server is running 2013 CU7.

Here is what I have done:
- I created an Office 365 Account
- Verified My Domain but did not change any DNS records other than adding the TXT record required
- Followed this guide:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn511017(v=exchg.150).aspx
Everything worked except when getting to the line:
New-MsolServicePrincipalCredential -AppPrincipalId $p.AppPrincipalId -Type asymmetric -Usage Verify -Value $credValue -StartDate $cer.GetEffectiveDateString() -EndDate $cer.GetExpirationDateString()
I got the error:

New-MsolServicePrincipalCredential : Invalid value for parameter.  Parameter name: Credential.EndDate.
At line:1 char:1
+ New-MsolServicePrincipalCredential -AppPrincipalId $p.AppPrincipalId -Type asymm ...
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : OperationStopped: (:) [New-MsolServicePrincipalCredential], MicrosoftOnlineException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Online.Administration.Automation.PropertyValidationException,Microsoft.Online.
   Administration.Automation.NewServicePrincipalCredential

I then removed the last two parameters of StartDate and EndDate, and reran the script and it worked. I don't know if this is the cause of the issue.

- I then tested push notifications in PowerShell with the following:
Invoke-MonitoringProbe PushNotifications.Proxy\PushNotificationsEnterpriseConnectivityProbe -Server:$s.Fqdn | fl ResultType, Error, Exception
I got the result of Succeeded.
- I then tried seeing if I'd get any notifications on my phone when receiving new mail, and I couldn't.

Note:
When I reran the Invoke-MinitoringProbe command and just got all of the parameters, I noticed the following:

ExecutionStartTime : 1/14/2015 6:05:53 PM
ExecutionEndTime   : 1/14/2015 6:05:53 PM

That time is 5 hours past the timezone we are in. Could this be an issue?

Thank you for your time.

Unable to create or edit AD (mail) contacts in address book

$

Hi!

I recently imported quite a list of contacts from an old CRM application into Exchange. All entries are nicely created in domain.local\company\location\Contacts. All fields are visible in Outlook under All Address Lists\All Contacts.

As we have a small company, just a few users, I want to give most of them the rights to create and update entries in the All Contacts folder, just as they were used to in the old app.

I started by creating role groups following this article: http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2013/08/07/creating-rbac-role-to-delegate-contact-management.aspx

I created an Admin Role group named Contact Administration, which contains the required Members, and I assigned two role groups to this group: Contact_Management, which is based on the Mail Recipient Creation parent group, and Contact_Management_2, which is based on the Mail Recipient parent group. The Write Scope is: domain.local\company\location\Contacts.

Because this didn't result in anyone being able to update the contacts, I also created a group in Active Directory and delegated control on the contacts OU to this group, even though I think this doesn't add to the desired result (as it indeed didn't).

What am I missing here? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Exchange 2013 autodiscover not working from Externally

Hi

i have exchange 2010 sp3(2Mb, 2hub/cas). I installed exchange 2013 servers(2MB, 2CAS). For coexistence i generated new certifcate with new cas from third party. I installed that certificate in that cas and assigned all services. i changed all my virtual directories service url. I didnt import the new certificate to exchange 2010 cas server and i didnt change url to legacy link. But still iam able to check exchange 2010 user mailbox owa, activesync and autodiscover without any certificate error.

If i try to browse owa, its going to 2013 server, if user is exchange 2010 user and its redirecting to exchange 2010 owa with same link.

But i dont know how above things is working without importing to new certificate...

Main problem is i am not able to configure exchange 2013 users outlookanywhere, Autodiscover from externally...

So in tmg i pointed the outlook anywhere ip address new cas server, now both exchange 2010 and exchange 2013 users while OA from external, its keep on asking password... Not accepting it...

Please help me to fix this issue..

Failed Recovery Installation of Exchange 2013 in a DAG

$

This has been the recovery from hell. First, the databases did not want to be deleted from the failed server and then the server itself did not want to be removed from the DAG. Finally, after solving all of these issues, I was ready to do a recovery install. Wouldn't you know it. It fails at the point where mailbox transport service is attempting to start. An attempt to start the service manually fails with the message, the service started and then stopped. Have tried redoing the connectors, making sure both DC's are global catalog servers. There are no third party software installed. In fact, I have not installed the antivirus. I started by formatting and reinstalling Server 2008 enterprise clean. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Migration Planning: What will happen with clients when changing namespace?

$

Hello,

We are planning to upgrade our EX2010 enviroment to EX2013.

Sadly our namespace in EX2010 is right now owa2.domain.com. The name owa2 is coming from last migration between ex2003 and ex2010. I'd like to remove this minor flaw if possible.

But what will happen with all the clients and mobile devices which are right now bound to owa2.domain.com? Is it possible to change the name back to owa.domain.com without manual interaction with the clients?

Kind Regards

first off all when i want to migrate one of the test mailbox from 2010 database to 2013 database this error has appeared:

Cannot open mailbox /o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=EXC2013/cn=Microsoft System Attendant.

after that i open the adsiedit and look at this path in my organization but i couldn't find my exchange 2013 server.

2010 -> 2013 Public Folder migration failed - Property Expression isn't valid

$

We just migrated from 2003 to 2010, and now on to 2013.  I have Exchange 2013 CU3 installed, and all mailboxes moved.  When trying to move the public folders, I'm getting an error about DataValidationException.  Property expression <PF Name with spaces> isn't valid......

Many articles refer to a mail-enabled public folder with spaces can't have spaces in the alias.  This is NOT a mail-enabled public folder, so there isn't an alias that I can find.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Migration of Exchange 2013 from one server to another Exchange 2013 server

Due to an infrastructure change I needed to move my exchange 2013 (Version 15.0-build 847.32) on Server 2012 to another Windows Server R2 with exchange 2013 (Version 15.0-build 847.32). Both servers are virtualized with Hyper-V and  all updates applied. They are currently running in a coexistence mode and working fine. How I did the switch over by taking the IP from the old sever and added it to the new server. the old server is offline.  In the virtual directories I matched the Internal and External URLs.

When I brought up webmail I did get a logon box. However, after I logged on I get a auth page that can't be found. What step did I miss in transferring over to the new email server in a coexistence environment?

Unable to access Exchange 2013 EAC/ECP webpage

Hi All,

Getting extremely frustrated now with a new Exchange 2013 installation on a Windows Server 2012 VM...

After having a lot of problems with the installation (didn't uninstall visual c++ which caused failure, then needed to delete the AD Microsoft Exchange System Objects group due to permission failures, etc) I've now got a fully installed Exchange server. Still, now I cannot figure out how to fix my next problem - Accessing the EAC/ECP.

I've searched every possible web guide/forum thread and the only one which is the same issue I'm having is this one: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/89c42771-78c9-4d94-88e5-557320eccc71

Unfortunately, as you can see in that thread, it is still unresolved.

Current Issue: trying to access https://localhost/ecp (or any other variation) returns a 404 Not Found.

The error page points the physical path to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ecp however that folder does not exist. I have tried manually changing the IIS site (Exchange Back End) to point its physical path to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\ecp which seems to be valid, however it doesn't work...

Not sure what else to do... HELP!

Issue Configuring Push Notifications Proxying for OWA for Devices

I have been attempting to configure Push Notifications per http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj151815.aspx#bkmk_installmodule

When running the second PowerShell script I get the error

"New-MsolServicePrincipalCredential : Invalid value for parameter. Parameter name: Credential.EndDate.

At c:\Users\User\Desktop\script2.ps1:25 char:5

*New-MsolServicePrincipalCredential -AppPrincipalId $p,AppPricipalId -Type a"

I do currently have another Federation Trust configured for this account with our test environment. Might this be causing this error? Any help would be appreciated.

Adding a mailbox role to an existing exchange 2013 CAS server

$

Hi,

We've recently migrated our on-premise Exchange to Office 365 but we keep management of users in our on-premise Active directory and dirsynced the attribute changes to Office 365. As per Microsoft recommendation, an Exchange server with CAS and Mailbox role should still be on-premise to manage the Exchange attributes. I have two Exchange 2013 servers, one CAS and one Mailbox, I wanted to decommission the Mailbox role server so that I can reuse the storage.

Is it possible to uninstall the Mailbox role and then add the role in the existing Exchange CAS server?

Or, I'll just uninstall Exchange on the 2 servers and setup a new Exchange server with both CAS and Mailbox role?

Migration Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

Hi all, I have an environment with the following

2 servers Exchange 2003 (6576381) on Windows Server 2003 R2
My domain is Windows Server 2003 R2 DCs
Forest Functional Level "2000 Mixto"
Functional Level Domain "2000 Mixto"

I will migrate to Exchange 2010, which would be the first steps?

1. Raise Forest Functional Level Domain and Windows Server 2003
2. Insert two new Domain Controllers with Windows Server 2008 R2
3. Install and start migrating to Exchange 2010

My question is if I install the DCs to Windows Server 2008 R2 and supports Exchange Server 2003 6576381
