Installing Exchange on a domain controller?

$

We are very small business firm like less than 10 people. I planning to setup new server. Initially I thought install AD, DNS, DHCP, DC and Exchange on same server. Microsoft not recommending all in my serverInstalling Exchange on a domain controller is not recommended.

So give me suggestion, Is it OK install everything on server for small company like us? or

create 1 virtual and install Exchange on that server and rest will be on base?.

Resource Mailbox Additional Settings

Hi,

I'm trying to find out if there is a way for the exchange server to send an email to a user if a Resource Mailbox Room accepts a request.

i.e, i send a meeting request to Boardroom, it accepts it and send me the accepted response but it then emails someone else that a request has been accepted.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Exchange 2013 forced reboots

hi,

I am having some issues with Exchange 2013 servers blue screening and having forced reboots. The managed availability is blue screening the servers about twice a week. We have 12 Exchange 2013 serevrs and 8 of the servers have this issue.

I can see in the log events 500 and 502 with managed availability

Recovery Action Started. (ActionId=RestartService, ResourceName="Server name removed", Requester=ActiveDirectoryConnectivityRestart, InstanceId=150122.085108.62160.001, ExpectedToFinishAt=2015-01-22T19:55:08.6216099Z

This is very similar to https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2883203 and i have run the overridewith powershell but it is still occuring.

We are running 2013 cu7 on all the servers and are Windows 2012 R2 virtual servers on Hyper-V.

any ideas?

Migrate Exchange 2010 to 2013 External Mail Flow

Dear All,

I am in the middle of Exchange Server 2010 to 2013 Migration. The scenario is I have single Exchange 2010 server with HUB/CAS/Mailbox and installed new Exchange 2013 with single CAS and single Mailbox server. The internal email flow between Exchange 2010 to 2013 and 2013 to 2010 is working. Having some issues and need assistance to resolve at earliest.

  • The issue with the external mail flow and I want to Exchange 2010 should be configured to send external email while migrating users to Exchange 2013. Once migrate all users to Exchange 2013 then will configure Exchange 2013 send connector.
  • How can I configure single name space of web URL for OWA both on Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, if user mailbox is in Exchange 2010 can access same OWA URL as user migrate to Exchange 2013.
  • How to configure SSL certificate, I have single URL certificate this would be enough for OWA, ActiveSync and Anywhere.
  • Is that possible if directly move the Exchange 2010 database to Exchange 2013 database, this will move all users mailboxes in one go or do I need to migrate users mailbox individual or in bulk.

Kindly guide if any thing missing that need to address during start the migration activity.

Thanks in Advance

Domain Change for Exchange 2010 Server

Hi Guys,

We have Single Domain forest with following Microsoft products available.

Exchange 2010, Lync 2010, Sharepoint, SC 2012 products.

We have a requirement where domain name change need to be performed. Now AFAIK domain rename is not possible after Exchange 2003 server. Hence would need to perform the migration here..

Can you please advise which of below approach will be possible

1. Create a new domain in exisiting forest and move users within domain.

2. Create a new forest with new domain and then perform an intra forest migration.

Will there be any specific cautions than needs to be taken care of. What would be implication for the same?

Samy

Autodiscover issue with existing profiles, but new profile works fine

$

We are migrating our mailboxes from one forest to another. We are having some issues with existing Outlook profiles. On an existing Outlook profile, after the mailbox is migrated and the SRV record changed to the new server, the client gets the notification about the change made by the administrator, restarts Outlook, gets the Autodiscover redirect warning, gets the prompt for the credentials, then Outlook is trying to connect to the server for 5 minutes then is in the Disconnected state.

When a new profile is created, the Autodiscover works just fine, and the profile is created. If I run a repair on an existing profile, the Autodiscover works just fine and the profile is created.

Looks like it's reaching the Autodiscover.xml, but not able to change the settings on an existing profile, but it's applying the settings just fine for a new or repaired profile.

Any idea what could cause this?

From Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

Hi,

I'm currently looking to move from Exchange 2007 to 2013 on new hardware, I'm not really worry about them coexisting.

Can I disconnect Exchange 2007 from the internet move all the mail boxes over to 2013 and let outlook update the profile.

Just thinking this would be easier and quicker than setting them up to coexist.

Any thoughts are welcome :-)Thanks

Chris

Migrating from GAL segregation to Address Book Policies

$

I am planning our migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, and am looking at using Address Book Policies (ABP). Years ago, someone here followed the directions inWhite Paper: Configuring Virtual Organizations and Address List Segregation in Exchange 2007. According to Scenario: Deploying address book policies, I need to follow Migrate to Exchange 2010 Address Book Policies from Exchange 2007 Address List Segregation

The directions in "Migrate to Exchange 2010 Address Book Policies from Exchange 2007 Address List Segregation" reference Exchange 2010, but I don't see any reason I can't just use a Exchange 2013 server instead. Is that correct?

Migration - SID Question

Hi

This has probably already been asked, but I am unable to find it

We are using a cloud email provider currently, running exchange 2013. we are planning to migrate to Office 365 Exchange Plan.

I am absolutely fine with the migration plan, however previously when deleting a user on our internal active directly, and the corresponding cloud mailbox, when re creating the same user a few months later everyone had to delete that user from their cache settings in Outlook to be able to email her again!.

I am therefore concerned that anyone with our cached details for any of our employees will no longer be able to email us post migration, and will need to re enter the email address from scratch.

From what ive read it appears to be an "internal" issue only, but I want to check this.

Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks,

Matt

Exchange 2013 and VMware Workstation, network problems

Hi,

So i 'm having this problem with exchange server that is running on VMware workstation 11. I might have put this in the wrong category so if i did please say so. Exchange server 2013 standard is working fine for the most part. I can get access to OWA and ECP on the host machine and the virtual machine on NAT just fine, but obviously i can't get access to if from the external lan network. So i switched to bridged. I can still get internet access from bridged but it says that the dns server (host machine hosts the only dns server) is not responding, so i can't get on exchange at all. Now the dns server works fine on the host machine and the external clients, so i have no idea what this is. Anyway if you can help that would be greatly appreciated. Thank's in advance!

Almost forgot, The host machine i running Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter and the exchange server running off of VMware is running Windows server 2012 Standard. If you need anymore specs i will post them. Thank's!

Updating Exchange 2013 CU1 to CU7

Hey,

I'm just standing before update of our stand alone Exchange 2013 CU1 server to CU7. Is it OK to do this update this way or should I start with patching lower CU's like SP1 and then CU7. Are there going to be serious problems or no at all? I have to do this update on production system - unfortunately no test environment is possible in my case.

Do you recommend any advanced process during installation of this CU that differs from manual on TechNet? Are there any critical post-update todo's? We are using OWA (with IIS modified to support only SSL access, ActiveSync).

Thanks, best regards

Matt

Can't migrate Public Folders from Exchange 2010 to 2013

I'm following the procedure as per this Microsoft article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

However at the New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest step (step 5 - migrate Exchange 2010 folders)  I'm getting the error at bottom.  Anybody know what could be causing this?  It certainly seems to be able to access ATLAS.  I've tried using atlas.es.tv, tried using just the name of the PF DB, nothing works.

SSL Offloading and proxying to a different site.

A post on experts-exchange.com says "A big warning about SSL offloading, and that is proxy to a different site *will not work* for Exchange ActiveSync or OWA."

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Protocols/SSL/Q_28486166.html

I'm unable to find any other information to corroborate that statement. Can someone point me to MS documentation that would confirm or deny that proxying to a different site will not work with SSL Offloading enabled?

Thanks

Backup ArcServe Exchange 2013 Document Level

We are in an hybrid environment of Exchange OnPremises and Exchange Online and in the OnPremises environment we have cohexistence of Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013.

As a backup solution we have CA Arcserve Backup, that allow us to make a backup in document level of the exchange 2013 mailboxes.

We still can´t do the backup document level. In the logs files from the ca agent installed in the server, we found some MAPI errors.

We followed all the articles bellow, but without success.

We had a remote support from CA and they told us that we are facing a problem on the Exchange Server.

We ran the Test-MapiConectivity that returns Success.

Below of the links, follow the logs, if someone could help-me to diagose the MAPI on Exchange 2013, I will be vary glad.

Exchange 2010/2013 Coexistence. Unable to open 2013 shared mailboxes from 2010 users

Hi,

I have Exchange 2010/2013 coexistence.  DNS is now pointed to 2013.  Users with mailbox on 2010 are unable to open shared 2013 mailboxes from within Outlook (2010,2013).  I get 'The set of folders cannot be opened. Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Either there are problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance'

Any ideas how to start troubleshooting this?   - Thanks

Exchange Server 2013 ECP Login

$

I am bit puzzled and frustrated with this issue I have in my lab.  I have exported my test mailboxes from my 2010 environment (other settings are minor and easily reproduced), and uninstalled 2010.  Next I went and installed 2013 RTM from TechNet.

The first time I installed 2013 the install was successful, but when the ECP came up it was just a empty browser window - it would never display.  So I thought, maybe there was something left over from the previous 2010 server.  I blew away the OS (was 2008 R2) and built a clean 2012 server.  Installed all the Exchange 2013 prerequisites, extended the Schema and installed 2013 using all the defaults in the wizard.

This time the the ECP login came up, but here is where it gets puzzling and frustrating.  I put my Admin credentials in (this account has all proper group membership that I'm aware of) and the screen goes blank for a second and then the OWA login is displayed.  The ECP never comes up again, just goes straight to the OWA login.  If I enter my credentials in the OWA login, the screen just flashes and the password field clears but doesn't login.

I have tried uninstalling and cleaning up AD and reinstalling, but the same thing keeps happening.  I can't help but think it has something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure what that would be.

ActiveSyncCTPMonitor probe unhealthy, along with a few others

Exchange 2013 is up and running (still in test mode) and I can process mail with POP, IMAP, Outlook Anywhere, and activesync (with my cellphone and tablet). Event logs are pretty normal except for the ProbeResult log. I see errors in there for ActiveSync, IMAP and POP and some others. I ran the get-serverhealth cmdlet and then followed the instructions in the knowledgebase articles to reset stuff in IIS.  I am at a loss what else to do. Everything seems to be working fine but I see those errors. (Maybe I shouldn't have looked in that log :)

Any suggestions? Thanks,

Lou
