Equipment mailbox in Room List

Hi,

I've setup a Room List mailbox and added equipment mailboxes as its members so that they could be booked using a calendar.

As of a week or a couple ago, all of the sudden the equipment mailboxes stopped showing up when Room List is selected. (they used to show up under "Scheduling Assistant")

Must have been an update to the exchange server.

I run Exchange 2010 SP3, Rollup 2

Any way to correct this behavior?

Thanks,

When installing Exchange 2013 on a server 2008 R2 in a windows 2012 domain I get an error message saying that the account used to install Exchange should be a member of the Domain Admins security group.  I was logged on as the administrator when I started the install.  The server has all the prerequisite installed.  Any Ideas?

Able to roll back from changing Namespace to Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007

I am building an exchange 2013 environment.  However, not all of my outlook clients are where they need to be.  During a maintenance window, we would like to change the namespace to exchange 2013 to verify it works properly.  Once we are done testing, we would like to change the name space back to exchange 2007 until we can get all of the outlook clients upgraded to the right version.  Is there any documentation showing you how to rollback?  Is it just simply changing DNS and your OWA, Autodiscover settings?  Or does the rollforward change something in AD that is irreversible?

To change the Installation Path of Existing Exchange 2013 before Upgrading to CU2..

Hi..

Please requesting someones help to fix the below issue.

I have Exchange 2013 (Build 516.0) working on MsServer2012. But by mistake the Installation was done with wrong Path. the Installation files and folders where installed in Domain Administrator's Desktop itself..

I could able to move the database and log file folder path to the correct drive, but the rest files are still in Desktop itself.

Due to the same, while I'm trying to install CU2 on the same server, it fails with returning an error-Can't install since the Setup path contains current user profile data.

Is there any way to change all the setup files/folder of an existing/working exchange 2013 to another drive or place.

Grant user permission to edit Global Address Book

Hi,

I have granted a user the ability to edit / mange their organization through the Exchange Control Panel.  Once the user logs in, they can make all edits except the actual street address.  The city, state, zip etc. can be changed.  But the 'Street' field will not accept any characters.  I made her a member of the helpdesk role.  I also logged into the ECP as the actual domain administrator, and I cannot edit the street field either.  Anything I'm missing?  Thanks

The migration mailbox for the organization is either missing or invalid.

I had a Exch2010, deployed two more mailbox servers for the purpose of migration and DAG - MBX01 & MBX02 which are Exchange 2013 on Win 2012. Then I created new 2 new users for testing, one in Ex2010 and another one MBX01 - all worked fine.

Tried to move the test user from Ex2010 to MBX01 - it failed with the error - The migration mailbox for the organization is either missing or invalid.

Looked into the forum and found the issue related to arbitration mailbox that is missing in MBX01 and MBX02.

I can see FederatedEmailbox & SystemMailbox only for Exch 2010 but I could not see anything linked to Exch2013 mailbox servers as below,

[PS] C:\Windows\system32> Get-Mailbox -Arbitration -server MBX01

SSL CERT placement

Running Exchange 2010 SP3 on 2 servers, one server is just a CAS server and the other one is Hub Transport and Mailbox. I am assuming that the SSL CERT used for Outlook Anywhere should be installed on the CAS server but need someone to confirm this.

Thanks,

Delete Offline Address Book created with newer version of Exchange

A few weeks ago, I upgraded to Exchange 2013 from 2007. Shortly thereafter, we found that some of our applications were not compatible and decided to move to Exchange 2010 instead.

The migration to 2010 went smoothly, and all mailboxes were moved over to the new Ex2010 server without incident.

Now, however, I am attempting to uninstall Ex2007 and am encountering errors due to an existing Offline Address Book. The OAB in question was created by Exchange 2012 ("Default Offline Address Book (Ex2012)") and is still set as the default, even though Ex2013 has already been uninstalled.

I have created a new OAB, but am unable to set it as the default. I receive the error "The propery 'IsDefault' is on a read-only object and can't be modified". I receive the same error whether I attempt to remove the OAB via the Console or Shell.

When I attempt to delete that OAB, I receive the error "Default Offline Address Book (Ex2012) was created by a newer version of Exchange. Exchange version 15.0.0.0 or later is necessary to manage this object."

I tried installing Ex2013 Management Tools on another machine and using that console to remove the OAB, but receive the same error.

Is there any way I can force remove this OAB and/or set the newly created OAB as the default?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Split Domain Autodiscover

I am trying to migrate mail from one hosted Exchange solution to Office365.  I already have the domain set as internal relay and mail flow is working fine.

My last remaining issue is autodiscover.  How am I supposed to manage autodiscover in DNS when it needs to point to two different places?

Thanks.

Hosted Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 migration

I currently have a single E2K7 server and I am bringing in a 2013 server into the org.  The installation of 2013 is complete and I am told (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/exdeploy2013/Checklist?state=1839-W-DABEAgAAQACACAEAAA%7e%7e) that I need to access the the EAC with the following URL: https://<server name>/ecp?ExchClientVer=15.  When I launch that URL I am prompted for the credentials of the user I used to install Exchange 2013 with.  I enter them and then get the following message:"Sorry, Access denied. You don't have permission to open this page. If you're a new user or were recently assigned credentials, please wait 15 minutes and try again."

Help.  TIA.

Is there any documentation for firewall port rules for Exchange 2013?  I have only seen any/any between exchange servers and domain controllers.  This will not work when my 2007 environment is in a seperate location.

Exchange Profile Analyser

All,

I want to run profile analyzer tool on our exchange 2010 Sp3 servers to collect information for OWA, MAPI, EWS,Active-SYNC and log generation

I need this for exchange 2013 deployment. Basically i want to check how much storage,Network bandwidth for log shipping, MAPI client to exchange server(if it one different WAN site), Server Hardware.

I run the available analyzer tool but not work. I cant expand the server and from the server and select the database from the console.

I think it is only for exchange 2007 and above version.

Do anyone know about the link or any place where i can download the exchange 2010 profile analyzer tool

Thanks

Exchange 2007 to 2013 Maibox Migration

Hello

Is it possible that we could provision and empty mailbox for each user for when they are moved to E2013, and instead import all their e-mail and existing folder structure into their Personal Archive Mailbox?

Thank you.

Exchange Server 2010 / 2013 and Private Cloud...

Hello all,

I've been searching everywhere and cannot find a reliable answer to our query.

We've tested Office365 and are impress with it.  However our clients do not wish to use Office365.

Our clients want us to to host our own Office365 privately.  We are not interested in competing with other hosters or Microsoft's Office365.  Just set up our own Office365 privately.

We just want to be able to setup Exchange 2010/2013 in a cluster environment for about 6 different locations.  All 6 locations will point their Outlook client to one virtual/cluster name and connect to the nearest Exchange server whereever the user is for efficient email communication.  Similar to how all users access www.hotmail.com from anywhere in the world to check his/her emails.

Can this be done?

Certificate Requests for 2010/2013

$

Secnario:  Transitioning from Exchange 2003 to 2013 via a stop over at 2010.  When installing 2010, the requirement for a SAN certificate is presented along with a nice little wizzard to generate names to be included in the certificate.

The CA that I am required to use has multiple options for certificate requests, including the option to request a SAN certificate, which is a different "process" or (for all practical purposes) a differnt URL link from requesting a single name cert.  When making the SAN request to the CA, it is at this point that I would add the additional names needed on the certificate to the single name cert.  I am concerned that if I follow the wizzard from within Exchange 2010 that it will include a bunch of names in the certificate request that i will once again include when making the final request to the CA.  In the end I would expect to see each name listed twice, which is probably not good.

I should note this:  I am not confident that if I followed the wizzard within Exchange, generate a SAN cert with all those names, but submit it via the "single name" process that the CA will actually accept it.

My question...can i simply generate a certificate request from within the Certificates MMC including only the machine's FQDN, then, make the request with that file, adding the additional names i'll need (like owa.mydomain.com) at request time, then complete the request by importing the cert via the Certificates MMC, then assign the cert in Exchange later?  Or does the entire process have to be done from within the Exchange Managment Console?

Thanks for the assistance!

Changing the Default Accepted Domain

Hi,

I've read the related threads but none specifically answer my question.

We have about 15 Accepted Domains and the Default one has been default since the day we installed the Org a few years ago, we want to change this to another, what impact will this have on all existing Mailboxes?

I'm hoping it has no impact, my concern is that it will change all of the Primary SMTP addresses on all mailboxes to the new Default Domain, can someone confirm this will or will not happen?

Many Thanks

Best practice to install Windows Server 2012 r2 and Exchange 2013

$

I have been reading articles for the last week and I am more confused now then ever on the proper way to install Server 2012 r2 essentials and Exchange 2013.  At this very moment I have WS2012r2 standard installed and nothing else. I have read that installing ws2012r2 with essentials role in one hyper-v and exchange in another hyper-v is the way to go.

I am only setting this up in a home environment right now. I have one server and four workstations with four users.  I have been able to get 2012 r2 w/essentials roles running previously and had the other workstations connect and everything was running great.  I then next installed the hyper-v role and installed exchange 2013 on a server 2012 standard vm.  However, I could not get the essentials to intergrate with the exchange.  It would error out saying that it could not find the exchange server.  I also could not get past the access anywhere setup with errors saying the machine was not connected to the internet, which it was.  It seemed as if once the hyper-v virtual switch was configured it broke some of the features of essentials.  The mail flow was working correctly however.

Is there any best practice type guide or information on how to setup 2012 r2 essentials with exchange 2013?  I know I am early to ask since these products are still not released.  I am hoping that the deployment is similar enough to 2012.  I have also thought about just intergrating with Office 365 but I really don't want to pay another expense when I have all of the needed software already.

Thanks in advance...

Exchange 2013 users unable to access Exchange 2007 Public Folders

$

Hi all.

I've been working on setting up Exchange 2013 in our Exchange 2007 environment.  I've managed to install it, configure it, move a handful of mailboxes, and fix several issues (2013 users being asked to login, free/busy maximum settings mismatch, Autodiscover not really updating the settings in Outlook clients...).  However, I'm stuck on getting Exchange 2013 users to access Exchange 2007 public folders.  Because the new server is very much in a development stage, I can't migrate the public folders over and won't until the mailboxes are thoroughly tested and fully migrated.

According to the public folders FAQ at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150538(v=exchg.150).aspx, it's both possible and impossible to get new users to access legacy folders.

From "Considerations:"

Exchange 2013 no longer supports public folder databases. Therefore, there’s no coexistence with legacy public folders. As a result, Exchange 2013 is unable to read from the hierarchy stored in a public folder database on Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2007 servers.

From "Migrate public folders from previous versions:"

...However, user mailboxes on Exchange 2013 servers or Exchange Online can connect to legacy public folders. Exchange 2013 public folders and legacy public folders can’t exist in your Exchange organization simultaneously....

I did originally start to build the master hierarchy in 2013 before finding this page, but I have since deleted the hierarchy from Exchange and from AD via ADSIEdit.

When a 2013 user tries to access a 2007 public folder, they are met with "Cannot expand the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems of the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (<correct info about the the legacy 2007 server's DN>)"

I've reviewed the RPC logs from the new server and am seeing what looks like a proper redirect command to the Outlook client.  But the Outlook client can't connect to the public folders.

I've tested public folders in OWA and they don't work there.  I've verified that the services are started on both the new and old servers.  And I've used the Outlook Connection Status tool to observe how Outlook seems stuck in a perpetual "connecting" state to the old mail server, even when I'm not trying to access a public folder.

So my question then, is using Exchange 2013 to access Exchange 2007 public folders actually possible or not?  If so, what else can I check to find out why I can't open legacy public folders?  We need to access some of the shared folders for collaboration, and I'm trying to avoid moving the upgraded users back into Exchange 2007.  This seems to be about the last major problem I have before I can start migrating all of the other users.

Thanks!

Alan

PS - Microsoft, please update your Exchange 2013 Public Folders FAQ to clarify if this is possible or not.  You state both in two adjacent sections.

Botched Exchange 2013 install -- recovery - Systemmailboxs and anything else??

$

We installed 2013, activating both the CAS and MAILBOX roles on all servers (12).

Afterwards it was decided that we wanted to separate the roles. Exchange was uninstalled on all the servers but there were issues uninstalling on the first installed mailserver. Messages indicated that the database wasn't empty and the uninstall could not continue. The installer then manually deleted the database and uninstalled Exchange.

While trouble shooting the uninstall on the initial server, the installer started installs on servers that hasa successfully performed the uninstall.

Before we could build new mailbox servers we needed to run the following powershell commands:

Set-Mailbox -arbitration "SystemMailbox{bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c}" -database "Mailbox Database 0025485816" -domaincontroller dc.root.com

Enable-Mailbox -Arbitration -DomainController dc.root.com -Identity "SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}"

We have now successfully installed 4 CAS servers and 4 of the 8 mailbox servers. (well, it looks like we have)

I am reviewing the servers and I cannot find the system mailbox. I tried executing "get-mailbvox -arbitration", I run "get-mailboxstatistics", but I just cannot find any reference to the "SystemMailbox{bb558..." mailbox.

I also do not see any references to the systemmailboxes
 SystemMailbox{1f05a927-8f02-4520-9faa-b8f438c93240}
 SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}

So, before I start putting users on here, how can I verify I have everytrhing I need?
Do I perform the "set-mailbox -arbitration..." on the other 2 systemmailboxes?
I also see articles referencing FederatedEmail and Migration accounts. Did I lose these? or have they not gotten created yet?

 Thanks!!

Tom
