legacy domain question

$

i am trying to understand the legacy host name setup for coexist mode (ex2007/ex2013).  is that just for webmail, outlook
anywhere and phones (active sync)?

right now:
public DNS: mail.domain.com points to 'my public IP 1' and my firewall sends it to ex2007 server for port443
internal DNS mail.domain.com points to ex2007 server's IP

create:
public DNS: legacy.domain.com, point it to 'my public IP 2' and my firewall also sends that to ex2007 server for port443
internal DNS: legacy.domain.com, and points to ex2007 server's IP.

get a new UCC cert that includes the new name legacy.domain.com and apply it to ex2007 server?  and later apply that same UCC cert to ex2013 server?

(at this point, a user could go to legacy.domain or mail.domain and everything would work the same)?

install exchange 2013 and configure it.

at my firewall, change public IP 1 (the original mail.domain.com:443) to now point to ex2013 server?

users go to mail.domain.com like normal.  if my mailbox was on the old server, i would be redirected automatically?  all of my

phones, outlook anywhere clients and webmail users all still function normally?

How do I upload my PST files to Exchange Online?

$

Hi all;

I am moving my home email (Exchange on SBS 2003) to the Microsoft hosted Exchange. I have the PST files for the 5 of us and now need to upload them to Exchange. Three of us use Outlook and so for those I can do it with Outlook.

But the other two are web access only. How can I upload the PST files to exchange? I have installed & run PST Capture and it now sees the 5 PST files. However, when I click set mailbox, I get "no mailboxes were found in the active directory". Since I want to push up to the online Exchange, active directory is irrelevant (I think).

How do I tell PST Capture to push the files up to the hosted Exchange? Or is there another way to do this?

I figure there must be an upload PST file button somewhere in the hosted exchange (that sure is a logical thing to have). But I can't find that.

??? - thanks - dave

Can all Exchange 2013 services use the same URL?

$

In the "collect required information section" of the "Exchange 2013 Deployment assistant" it provides an example of using two separate FQDN's for different services:

External Exchange 2013 FQDN for the following services:               mail.contoso.com

  • Outlook Anywhere
  • Offline Address Book
  • Exchange Web Services (EWS)
  • Exchange ActiveSync

External Exchange 2013 FQDN for the following services:                 owa.contoso.com

  • Outlook Web App
  • ECP (Exchange Admin Center)

Is it a requirement that these two sets of services have two separate FQDN's? I don't see why two would be required, but before I try a single FQDN and accidentally foul everything up, I wanted to check.

Exchange 2007 and 2013 Co-existence - Proxy and Redirection

$

0

Hi

We are in process of transitioning from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Our Exchange 2007 infrastructure is as follows:

  1. 2 Data centers (DC 1 and DC 2). Both with active user population. Both have their own direct Internet Connectivity
  2. Standalone Exchange 2007 mailbox servers in each data center
  3. Load Balanced CAS (HT co-located) servers using Hardware Load Balancers in each data center
  4. No access allowed from Internet except ActiveSync (No OWA or OA)
  5. Outlook anywhere is disabled in Exchange 2007 organization but once mailboxes will be moved to Exchange 2013, OA will definitely be used – we will provide OA on Intranet as well as Internet
  6. All the internal URLs including Autodiscover point to VIP (Load Balancer IP)
  7. Autodiscover is not currently published on Internet, but we have a plan to publish it now once Exchange 2013 is introduced

With the above scenario in mind, need to clarify the following points:

  1. Do we need a Legacy name in our specific scenario? The reason I am asking this is because our understand is that Legacy name is only required for traffic on the Internet. Since we only provide ActiveSync access currently (No OWA, OA or other type of access for mailboxes on legacy Exchange 2007), for which Exchange 2013 CAS will do Proxy and not redirection, irrespective of the fact that the mailbox is in Internet facing site with and External URL is configured on the ActiveSync virtual directory – Please correct me if our understanding is not right.
  2. Second question is about OWA. Once we introduce Exchange 2013 CAS servers and make URL changes, how will the intranet access will be handled by Exchange 2013 CAS for mailboxes on Exchange 2007 for:
    1. Mailboxes in same site as Exchange 2013 CAS – Will it be a Proxy or Redirection. All the resources I referred to say OWA requests from Exchange 2007 will be redirected to Exchange 2007 CAS. In our scenario, we do not have OWA published on Internet and no External URL configured on OWA virtual directory (and no ‘A’ record on Public DNS), moreover these requests are originated from Intranet. What will be the end result?
    2. Mailboxes in different site as Exchange 2013, with Exchange 2013 as well as Exchange 2007 CAS servers – Will it be a Proxy or Redirection

Exchange Setup Failing

$

I am trying to install Exchange 2013 on a server running Server 2012 for a mailbox role.  I ran the setup the first time but setup failed because I had forgot to update my DNS server settings first and it could not find a domain controller.  When I tried to install again I got a message stating the previous installation failed and setup could try to continue the installation.  When I chose that it did nothing at all, so I ended up uninstalling Exchange.  Now setup fails every time telling me "a setup failure previously occurred while installing the admintools role".  There is nothing left to uninstall because I already uninstalled it.  This is a brand new VM and I am afraid to just start over because of the failover clustering I've already setup and I would have to redo a lot of things.  Any help would be appreciated.

It won't let me post me log file because it says I'm not verified.  I'm hoping it will verify me after I post this and I will paste it in.

Exchange 2010 Migration to Exchange 2013 - Installation Troubleshooting

$

Hi

I've spent quite a bit of time trying to get my Exchange 2013 environment up and running and I've run into so many issues that just sucked up my time.  I've had to do quite a bit of trawling on the net to get info which would've made my life a whole lot easier if I could have found something a lot more structured.

So I've put this installation troubleshooter together to assist someone else that might encounter the same problems that I did and will hopefully speed up your installation process and save you some time.

I've used the following guides to assist with understanding how the installation process works but they didn't provide me with any solutions to the problems that I encountered: http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000788.htm; Youtube videos

Installed all of the prerequisites
I experienced problems with the DotNet 3.5 installation and went through this article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2012/05/14/windows-8-and-net-framework-3-5.aspx

Ran the exchange installation
It failed during the installation - unable to connect to one of my exchange servers
Went through the cleanup procedure in this article - http://memphistech.net/?p=264
Deleted the database from ADSIEDIT-Configuration as explained in the article
Deleted the remnant of the previous installation - "<System Drive>\Default Exchange Install Path"
You will receive the following error if you do not delete the remnant folder: "Couldn’t attach the data folder 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\HostController\Data'. Path doesn’t contain old nodes belonging to the system 'Fsis'.".

Then ran the uninstallation from Programs and Features and rebooted
Reinstall of Exchange again
I received the following error: "Database is mandatory on UserMailbox. Property Name: Database".
Ran the "get-mailbox -arbitration" which showed which system mailboxes were corrupted.
Deleted the corrupted mailboxes via ADSIEdit-Configuration and recreated them using New-Mailbox -Arbitration -Name lFederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042 -UserPrincipalName FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042@<Default_Accepted_Domain>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978776/en-us
The command needs to be run for each mailbox that was deleted

The "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136" mailbox was one of the corrupt mailboxes, so after the recreate I had to run:
Set-Mailbox "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136" -Arbitration –Management:$true
If you don't run this command then you encounter errors with the migration of the mailboxes from one server to the other

Reran the installation and it timed out complaining about not seeing the main DC.
Cancelled the setup and removed installation and rebooted.
Reran the the setup after reboot and everything went through fine.

I hope that this will help ease your road to Exchange 2013.

Exchange 2007\2013 co-existence problem moving mailboxes

We have an Exchange 2007 SP3 server with MBX, CAS, Hub roles. We've just introduced an Exchange 2013 CU2 server with MBX and CAS roles.

I'm trying to move test mailboxes to the Ex2k13 server from the GUI. The migration report in the GUI of the EAC shows the status as completed. But the mailboxes do not move. When I run get-moverequest in EMS I get no output.

I'm stumped.

Migration from Exim to Exchange 2013

Hi,

I have a Linux Mail server running Exim, with 1000 users.

The higher ups want the firm to migrate to Exchange 2013.

From what I've seen on the Exchange Server, there is no in-built migration tool, and online sources are rather scanty on any successful migration from Exim to Exchange.

Any ideas on how to do this, without resorting to manually importing individual PSTs?

Thanks.

Unable to connect to Exchange 2013 using Outlook 2010/2013 with latest patch

Dear All,

I'm setting up Exchange 2013 CU2 coexist with Exchange 2010 SP3. Since we are still planning and testing, the internet is still pointing to 2010 for send/receive mails.

The 2013 environment are:-

2 X CAS server with MS NLB configured
2X MBX server with DA
Internal NLB/licent access: excas2013.int.my.domain
External access (current set on 2010 as well): webmail.my.domain

Certificate with valid subject name has been import to 2013 and 2010:
CN: webmail.mydomain
SAN: excas2013.int.my.domain
SAN: excas.int.my.domain (for 2010)

I am able to connect to my Exchange 2010 user thru 2013 CAS server and proxy to exhcnage 2010 by outlook. However, I cannot connect to Exchange 2013 user by outlook. During mail profile create of Exchange 2013 user by autodiscover (pointed to exchange 2013), the process looks good:-
Establish network connection (checked)
Searching for user@my.domain server settings (checked)
Log on to server

The process stop at "Log on to server" and a windows prompt, saying:
The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

Clicked OK, I can see:-
MS Exchange Server:
GUID@my.domain
Mailbox:
=SMPT:user@my.domain.
WHen I click "Check Name", it said The name cannot be resolved.

I have no idea of what is going on. Just want some help~

AD Attributes after Exchange 2003 uninstall

$

Hi,

i've a Customer that need to uninstall Exchange 2003 organization due to Google apps migration.

The question is : what's happen to the AD Attributes added to Schema by Exchange installation, like :

ProxyAddreses

MAIL

I Verify that if i delete a mailbox from a user, the MAIL attribute, is deleted from user.

The Customer have few application (like CRM, JDe EnterpriseOne and so on) that use this attributes for Single sign On or many other purpose.

So the problem is how to maintain this attributes after the complete removing of Exchange 2003 Organization.

I think that an Export and import (after uninstall) is a possibile solution if the attribute are still availble on the schema.

Thanks

Marco

Exchange 2013 Installation Error

I had some issue in Exchange 2013 so I formatted Exchange 2013 and installed in a fresh Windows 2012 with the same server name .

bu I manually deleted all entries - database and server name from Adsiedit.msc before installing.

Deleted the entries from:

CN=Configuration [domain] → CN=Services → CN=Microsoft Exchange → CN=[organization] → CN=Administrative Groups → CN=Servers and Database

Removed the server -

Active Directory Domain Services → Active Directory Users and Computers [domain] → [domain] → Microsoft Exchange Security Groups

then installed Exchange 2013 as it is in this steps, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354(v=exchg.150).aspx

I got the error as below,

PST import - Problem when replying to old e-mail

Hi,

When using New-MailboxImportRequest to import PST files to Exchange 2013 CU2 we end up with a succesful import. When the end-user tries to reply to an old e-mail the "To" field is just populated with the Display Name of the user that sent the mail. Not the smtp or X500 address. See the attached picture.

If we use Outlook to import the issue does not occurs.

We have tried with different versions of Exchange as source mailsystem and different versions of Outlook as export tool with the same result.

Is this a known issue?

Best regards, Jesper

Exchange 2010 SP3 to 2013 CU2v2 - OWA error

I have a question about Exchange 2010 & 2013 coexistence.

I've installed an Exchange 2013 CU2v2 in coexistence with 2010 SP3. After that, I tried to open the OWA from 2013 with an user from 2010 database with the internal server name "exch2013.domain/owa" waiting for redirect/proxy, but I received this message to my surprise:

"something went wrong
Sorry, we can't get that information right now. Please try again later. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk"

Is there anything wrong? I understand that the proxy is default in this situation/version (2010 - 2013) and no need legacy URL, right?

I don't know if it's related, but I have this configuration in 2010 OWA:

Mailbox Migration Relinquished while moving from First Exch2013 (build 516.0) to New Exch2013 CU2 (Buidl 712.0)

Hi, seeking someone help to sort out the issue Im facing with..

I have recently installed Exchange 2013 (build 516.0) in Exch2010 Environment and  Successfully migrated all the mailboxes and decommissioned the Exchange 2010 as well.

But later, yesterday we introduced brand new Exchange 2013 CU2 (build 712.0) to this environment, the mail box migration stopped for the last 2 mailboxes and couldn't make it upto now even after repeating/recreating the migration job couple of times.

Here is the log..

Exchange 2010 Rollup 2 SP3 update cannot find installation package exchangeserver.msi file on SBS 2011... NEED HELP!!!

Hello,

I am running a windows SBS 2011 standard system and there was currently an update for Exchange 2010 Rollup 2 Service Pack 3 and it keeps failing.  It says that it cannot find the installation package (exchangeserver.msi) and it is looking for it in E:\Software\Exchange2010-SP3-x64\ folder but there never was this folder.  There is only an Exchange2010-SP3-x64.exe file.

The only exchangeserver.msi file that I find on the server any where is in C:\ProgramFiles\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\CMPNENTS\EXCHANGE14_SP1 but it won't accept it (says not authorized for this update or something alike).

Please help.  It is currently causing issues with email.  Some of the features are not working because it says exchange is currently under maintenance.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
