Zimbra 8 to Exchange 2013 Migration Suggestions

$

We currently use zimbra 8 and are looking to move to exchange 2013 since the future of zimbra looks to be bleek. Currently we have about 20 users. I would like to get mail, calendar, contacts and notes. I have read other threads like:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/e94a8bb6-06df-44fa-bbff-0ecdea9dbf4d/migrate-from-zimbra-to-exchange-2010?forum=exchange2010

Is this the best way? This procedure appears to get only mail. Is there a way to get calendar, contacts and such? I really don't want to have to export to pst and then import as this would cause hours of email downtime (zimbra server up while i export. Then configuring the router for the exchange server to accept connections then import). About half the users are connecting from the internet and therefore have to come in through the router. How do you gurus handle going from 1 email platform to another?

MS Exchange - Hybrid setup

Just  a query:

I was going through a video of running hybrid setup in a hybrid environment.  In one of the steps it asks to give the Organisation FQDN saying " Enter a FQDN for your on-premises organisation. This will configure the Outbound mail connector to route mail from the EOP to on-premises organisation" .

Question: What if  I have,  say 2 hybrid servers? What if i do not want to have the outbound mails going only from single hybrid servers but from both  the hybrid servers. How do i configure in such case?

Should i go for the loadbalancer IP to split the outbound connections or something?

We are trying at the moment to install Exchange 2013 CU10 on our cas-servers. This is due to error not possible. We have already installed CU10 on our mailbox servers, therefore we upgraded our shema already.
The Setup already stops at the beginning without error Pop up. Only in the Exchange Setup log or Windows Application log you find an error post.

This are the error logs:

Do anyone have any suggestions that we can install Exchange 2013 CU10? What are we doing wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Outlook (Office 365 ProPlus) not showing online-archive in hybrid

I have searched Google and Bing on this topic found a lot of posts but no one is really answered or is the same as my situation.

We have hybrid Exchange  and clients are Windows 10 with Office 365 ProPlus.

All users have O365 E3 licensed and Shared Mailboxes have Exchange Online Archive plan.

Shared Mailboxes with Archive enabled are in Office 365.

Also user mailbox is in O365.

For users we assign Full Control on the Shared Mailbox.

The user can add the mailbox via more settings>advanced as additional mailbox and user sees the Shared Mailbox in Outlook but the user does not see the Archive of the Shared Mailbox in O365.

I know the post below and we have E3 so the archive should be shown but its not visible.

We tried

- via OWA the archive is visible

- removed and re-add the additional mailbox via more settings>advanced, still not visible

- waited 2 days

- removed Outlook profile and created a new one, after that still no archive visible

- completely removed the Windows profile of the user, after that not showing archive.

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/outlook-license-requirements-for-exchange-features-46b6b7c5-c3ca-43e5-8424-1e2807917c99?ocmsassetID=HA104047984&CorrelationId=d87f6805-7fd5-41f7-b53d-57ff1a437540&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

I'm completely out of idea's why archives are not showing

Unable to install CU8 on Exchange Server 2013

Hi,

For testing purposes I'm setting up an Exchange 2013 environment and now I'm trying to install CU 8 (also for testing purposes) but it's not working. When I just start the executable, I get the following error:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

When I unpack the installer and try to run setup via an elevated command prompt, using:

Setup /m:upgrade /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

I get the following error:

"Exchange Server 2013 requires .NET Framework 4.5 or later. Download it from..."

While this Framework is already installed.

I'm currently having Exchange 2013 SP 1 version 15.0.847.32

Thanks already for the help!

Decommssion Exch2013 on a Domain Controller after migration to O365

Hello,

We are migrating our on premise Exchange2013 mailboxes to O365. Exchange 2013 (SP4) is installed on our single Windows 2012 R2 Domain Controller. Once the MX records are cutover to O365, and we are satisfied all mail is migrated, etc., we no longer will need Exchange on the DC and would most likely on install it. We need direction on:

1. Prior to uninstalling it, what services, settings etc. should we disable/change so that no new mail, either internal or external, goes into the Exchange mailboxes.

2. We are particular concerned about the internal email usage and will be instructing users to use external email addresses only. so please be specific on how to disable this ability.

3. Have read steps on uninstalling Exchange but nothing particular about when it is on a Domain Controller?

AutoDiscover Configuration for a Hybrid exchange 2013 setup

Hi All,

I'm having a little trouble getting AutoDiscover working for our hybrid setup.

Externally, it works fine for our users on 365, but won't work internally for our on premesis users i.e. using outlook.

Our external DNS record for autodiscover.domain.org is setup as CNAME - autodiscover.outlook.com - should this instead point to the external IP address of our mail server?

Also with our Internal DNS, I just have a zone called autodiscover.domain.org, with an A record in it that just points to our internal exchange server IP address. I can verify this by pinging autodiscover.domain.org from a PC within our domain, and it comes back with our internal exchange IP address.

If I run the get client access server PS commands on the server, I can see that the internal uri for autodiscover is

https://autodiscover.domain.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

The external uri is empty.

Can anybody see any glaring errors with my setup as it is at the moment?

Thanks in advance,

DG

Unresolved ObjectType on all newly created or migrated 2013 Mailboxes

When migrating or adding a new user to Exchange 2013, I get the following error when going into the Mailbox Delegation section in the Exchange Admin Center.

The object <Object CN> has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:

The access control entry defines the ObjectType 'Object GUID' that can't be resolved.

I have done the following to try and resolve the GUID

Searched via LDP, ADSI, ADUC, Repadmin, with nothing found. I've converted the GUID from string to hex and searched with still no luck.

I get the identical error when running a Get-ADPermissions on the object as well.

There are no inheritance blocks on the object or OUs.

I've opened a Premier case, but wanted to ask the community if they have seen this or had any suggestions. As of right now, Exchange 2013 is the only app that can see this orphaned object.

Azure AD Connect trying to sync SystemMailbox

$

Good Afternoon,

As mentioned in a previous thread, I am migrating Exchange 2007 (2 NLB CAS/HUB, 2 MBX CCR) with a hybrid Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2013. Since I am a glutton for punishment, and inherited an environment that also needed Active Directory and DirSync upgraded, I have taken care of those already; some 2012r2 DC's mixed with 2008r2's in a Forest Functional Level of 2008r2 and made the jump to Azure AD Connect this week.

Last night, after prepping the Schema and AD's (2 sibling Domains in same forest) Azure AD Connect started alerting every 30 minutes about not being able to sync a SystemMailbox account from the Forest Root Domain. With a creation date of yesterday, I assume this was created during the AD Prep. My question is, after reading through the AAD Connect documentation, that this should not be happening at all - it should be skipping those mailboxes by default. I assume this is happening to me because I upgraded DirSync instead of a fresh install and maybe some rules weren't created correctly?

I haven't seen proof yet, but I did find something from Microsoft that it can happen and that I should copy the mail attribute into the mailNickname attribute. Problem being, both are blank.

So, has anyone seen this or able to point me to some documentation on a fix where I don't have to learn the gibberish in the AAD Connect rules? Another possible option, there is supposedly another rule in AAD Connect, that ignores mailNicknames beginning with SystemMailbox, so I could simply copy the samAccountName into that field and force an initial sync?

Thoughts?

Cross-Forest Migration for Hybrid Setup

$

I am doing a cross-forest Migration from Exchange 2013 Hybrid (in a multi-domain AD structure) to a new Exchange 2016 (in a single forest single domain AD structure) - the exchange deployment, forest trust, the ADMT, and the PES are all deployed, I have set the msds-consistencyguid as the source anchor to maintain the synced - on-premises users relation after the migration, and added the new forest to the AD connect.

The prepare move request for the O365 mailboxes are failed with the following error:

it is not a Mailbox! 0 mailbox(s) ready to move.

which is fine as I have no mailbox on-premises but the user doesn't being created in the new exchange 2016 in the target forest.

The user can access the mailbox after being migrated but he lose the exchange attributes (proxy addresses,..... ) as it is being excluded by ADMT by default.

Exchange 2010 SP3 UR24 not recognised by Exchange 2013 Setup

$

Environment: Exchange 2010

Mission: Deploy and migrate to 2013

Problem: Exchange 2010 has SP3 and UR 24 installed. Problem is that I get conflicting info

“Get-Command ExSetup | ForEach {$_.FileVersionInfo}” returns 14.03.0419.000 – Which is perfect

“Get-ExchangeServer |select AdminDisplayVersion” returns Version 14.3 (Build 123.4) – Which is not good

So as a result, my 2013 setup fails with:

All Exchange 2010 servers in the organization must have Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 or later installed.

I found this post which suggests that I edit the serialnumber using ADSIEDIT

https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a41e8dec-49be-43c4-b6d5-9f180d5c2dc1/exchange-2013-doesnt-recognize-exchange-2010-sp3-installation-on-sbs2011

I also found another post which lead me to believe I should run the Schema and AD prep again from Exchange 2010

Please advise me… Should I update the serialnumber in AD?

How to properly uninstall Exchange 2013 - no longer needed

$

We have migrated from on-premise Exchange 2013 to O365. Exchange 2013 is no longer needed and we would like to uninstall it from our Windows 2012R2 Server, which is also the Domain Controller. We have 10 mailboxes. Apparently it is not as simple as going to Add/Remove programs and uninstalling it from there. In our research, we find information similar to this about Arbritration that we should do before going to Add/Remove programs:

  • Remove Mailbox Role Exchange 2013
  • 1. Get-user | disable-mailbox
    2. Get-PartnerApplication| Remove-PartnerApplication
    3. Get-mailboxdatabase
    4. Use 3 to run- Get-Mailbox -Arbitration -Database ‘Mailbox Database xxxxxxxxxx’ | Disable-Mailbox -Arbitration
    -DisableLastArbitrationMailboxAllowed
    5. Get-MailboxDatabase | Get-MailboxStatistics | Where { $_.DisconnectReason -eq “Disabled” } | ft  DisplayName,Database,DisconnectDate
    6. Get-Mailbox -Monitoring | Disable-Mailbox
    7.>Get-MailboxDatabase | Remove-MailboxDatabase
    8. See that database is now deleted with  – Get-MailboxDatabase | Get-MailboxStatistics | Where { $_.DisconnectReason -eq “Disabled” } | ft  DisplayName,Database,DisconnectDate
    9. Physically delete the database and log files (leave the mailbox folder for now)
    10. verify nothing is left – Get-MailboxStatistics -Database ‘Mailbox Database 0039199658’ | where {$_.DisconnectReason -eq “SoftDeleted”} |foreach {Remove-StoreMailbox -Database $_.database -Identity $_.mailboxguid -MailboxState SoftDeleted}
    11. get-mailbox
    12 get-mailbox -arbitration
    13. get-mailbox -monitoring

So what are the proper steps for uninstalling?

Secondly,

- Would we be better off just disabling the Exchange Services instead of uninstalling? If so, what services should we disable?

Thank you!

On-prem to Exchange Online Only

$

Hi,
I know there are some caveats (not sure what they are) when migrating all mailboxes from an Exchange on-premises solution to Exchange Online and then decommission the on-premises server.

Some documents/blog posts saying that its not doable since the user accounts have a bunch of exchange attributes that does not exist in azure ad and therefor its not a good idea to remove the exchange on-premises services, rather keep it to manage exchange related things?

What specific things is it that one cannot do? One will still utilize on-prem AD for various types of services...

If one completely can remove the exchange on-prem that would be the preferable solution for us!
