Active Directory Dies

$

We have 3 Active Directory Controllers. Two our on one side of our network (A+B) and one is on the other side of a VPN connection (C). When the VPN connection goes down A and B lose all information until they can reconnect with C. This is a recent development since we replaced a new PIDC (A). A query shows that A has all the roles but a dcdiag /test:advertising on A shows:

 Starting test: Advertising
    Warning: DsGetDcName returned information for
\\C.domain, when we were trying to reach A.
SERVER IS NOT RESPONDING or IS NOT CONSIDERED SUITABLE.
    ......................... A failed test Advertising

When I run the same test on B I get the same error replacing A with B.

Has anyone seen this before? My network is in a fragile state and I desperately need answers.

I have also moved administrator's mailbox to Exchange 2013 but still I can't access Exchange 2013 administrative console. Please help.

Removing old Exchange 2007 PF DB after migration to 2013

We have migrated from 2007 to 2013 and are now trying to decommish Exchange 2007 from our environment.

I have migrated the Public Folders from 2007 to 2013 but I cannot remove the Public Folder database from 2007.

I get this error:

Remove-PublicFolderDatabase : Object is read only because it was created by a future version of Exchange: 0.10 (14.0.100.0). Current supported version is 0.1(8.0.535.0).

I have made sure all replicas and public folders are gone from the database, and I've also tried dismounting the DB, deleting the EDB file, and remounting.  Same error every time.

I have read multiple articles on the subject but most of them pertain to a 2007>2010 migration and involve running the Remove-PublicFolderDatabase cmdlet on the 2010 server.  Unfortnately 2013 does not include that cmdlet and the only other option I have read about involves using Adsiedit, which I REALLY like to avoid as it's not a supported method.

Can anybody help me out?

I've been trying to uninstall a corrupted version of Exchange 2013 so I can start over from scratch. The errors from the automated uninstallation process indicated I needed to disable the arbritration mailbox. When I attempt to do so, I get the following error message:

Best Way to move MB database from single XCH 2010 to 2013 DAG

$

Hi,

We are migrating from a Single Exchange 2010 sp3 server to a 2-node exchange 2013 DAG cluster, located in another AD site.

I can move a mailbox from 2010 to 2013 without issue, but the WAN link between 2010 and 2013 is very small.

It will take us too long to move all mailboxes with move-mailbox over the line.

Is there another way to move the mailboxes or Databases more quickly?

I was thinking about copying the DB's to a physical disk from 2010 and then move and mount it on 2013. Is that even possible? I explored the possibility to seed the DB to 2013, but don't have the option to do so. 2010 is installed on 2008R2 standard.

We prefer a short downtime and move over everthing in one go as opposed to having coeexistance for longer period of time to allow the move mailbox over the WAN to complete.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Howto Import PST Files with LargeItems

$

Hi,

we are trying to import PST Files which are containing Mails with Attachements larger than 10mb @ Exchange Server 2013 (CU3)

If i run the following command:

New-MailboxImportRequest -Mailbox USERNAME -FilePath \\Server\PST\Username.pst -LargeItemLimit 99 -BadItemLimit 99 -AcceptLargeDataLoss

I'm just able to ignore the error/failure message and it won`t import the messages with the larger attachements, larger means every mail bigger than 10mb in size.

at some blogs i could read that changing the transport/recieve/sendconnector sizes could help, so i tried:

Set-TransportConfig -MaxReceiveSize 100MB
Get-ReceiveConnector | Set-ReceiveConnector -MaxMessageSize 100MB
Get-SendConnector | Set-SendConnector -MaxMessageSize 100MB

After restarting the servers i had no luck with those changes.

Those days everybody has attachements larger than 10mb, so there has to be a way of importing those mails
without any 3rd party tools or whatsover ?

PF migration 2007 -> 2013 StalledDueToCI

I was following the post below to migrate PF from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013

http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-4-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx

Migration request never got to AutoSuspended state, instead it's showing StalledDueToC which I found a fix for under the following link

http://www.msexchange.org/kbase/ExchangeServerTips/ExchangeServer2013/TransitioningMigration/exchange-2013-stalledduetoci-error.html

When I checked Microsoft Exchange Security Groups OU "ContentSubmitters" group did not exist, however all other groups had a space in their names. I went ahead a created a group without the space, as shown in the article and restarted both services (Microsoft Exchange Search and the Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller)

when I check Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics, I am still seeing StalledDueToCI

Can someone confirm that ContentSubmitters does not need a space in the middle? I am on Exchange 2013 CU3

Hello,

Tried to search for a good solution for what I need but always redirected to places of office365.

I will explain what i need and maybe you could find me a good solution.

I have several offices that i give IT support. Some of them with exchange 2003 and some with 2007-2010.

I want to migrate their servers to my new hosted exchange 2013 (multi-tenancy).

Is there a way to do CutOver migration?

What are my options?

P.s. All offices are working with calendars so PSTing their mailboxes is out of the question.

Hope you understand what i wanted to do.

Thanks for the help.

Lior.

Exchange Server 2013, can send mail but not receive externally

Greetings,

I have deployed an exchange server in a Windows Server 2012 environment. The server has DC/DNS enabled and exchange is running on a hyper-v layer.

The external mail address is mail.nextsolutionllc.com

Our website will be hosted on godaddy and our mail will be hosted in-house. I created an A record in Godaddy(named mail) and pointed it to our static IP address. I also created an mx record in godaddy and pointed it to the A record.

I have verified all ports required are opened in our cisco ASA firewall.

Currently our mail server will SEND mail but will not receive mail. I can send/receive mail internally and send mail externally, just cannot receive external emails.

I have used mxtoolbox.com and it gives these results:

"Connecting to 97.89.55.134

I Have also used the microsoft test connectivity tool and it said "

Testing inbound SMTP mail flow for domain 'administrator@nextsolutionllc.com'.
The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer failed to test inbound SMTP mail flow.

Additional Details
 Elapsed Time: 83 ms.

Test Steps

Attempting to retrieve DNS MX records for domain 'nextsolutionllc.com'.
The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer wasn't able to retrieve MX records from DNS."

Can anyone give me some insight? I feel as if I'm very close to having a functional exchange server. I did call Charter about ~2 hours ago and ask them to make a reverse DNS lookup for mail.nextsolutionllc.com to our static IP, I know that can take up to 24 hours but still have not had any results.

2007 to 2013 Migration Issue - Outlook prompting for credentials

$

I recently migrated our 2007 Exchange Server to 2013.  This is a single server setup.  Everything seemed to go fairly well.  I've been through many Exchange migrations in the past, but this is the first one that has been 2007 to 2013.  This environment has also been migrated from 2003 to 2007 in the past (not me) and the Exchange 2003 server was never decommissioned properly.  So...  I've removed the 'first administrative group' from ADSI Edit which enabled me to install Exchange 2013 without it thinking there was a legacy 2003 server installed.

Once I got everything setup I moved all mailboxes have been moved to the new 2013 server, set all URLs to the respective domain names, installed the new cert.  Pretty much followed a guide i found online for an Exchange 2007 to 2013 migration.  Everything with 2013 seems to be functioning correctly.  I have mailflow between 2007 and 2013, i have mailflow to external addresses, mailflow in from external.  OWA functions properly, ActiveSync for all of my mobile devices seems to be working just fine.

Here's my one (major) issue:

My Outlook Clients are now asking for credentials upon launch and then about every 10 mins or so thereafter.  At first i was testing with my account and Outlook Client (2013).  Then decided to test with Outlook 2010.  Same issue on both clients. After a lot of searching on this particular issue, I found a possible cause of the issue, but cannot for the life of me seem to fix it...

I've found multiple posts stating that this issue is related to the OAB connection.  This was confirmed by noticing Outlook was trying to download the OAB everytime the authentication box would pop up under the Local Mailbox tab on the Connection Status option using the ctrl+rightclicking the outlook icon in the notification area.

Also, i've noticed if i hit 'cancel' to the authentication request, Outlook functions just fine.  All folders are updated, however the request does come back.  It also shows 'need password' in the bottom right of Outlook.  It also doesn't matter how many times i enter the correct user and password it doesn't take it.  (yes, password is correct and yes, i've entered user name as domain\username, just username and username@domain).

So, I started investigating the OAB issue.

The first thing i did was verify i have an OAB.. I did... There was the default one with 2007 and there was a new one for 2013.  I did try and do a move-offlineaddressbook request during the migration process and it failed stating I couldn't move an old OAB to Exchange 2013 i had to create a new one.  So i removed the (already new) exchange 2013 OAB, and created my own and made it default.  Still no change in behavior.  I verified the internal and external URLs for the virtual directory they are correct (https://mail.domain.com/oab) and the virtual directory is linked to the OAB.

One thing i did notice that was odd was when i do a get-offlineaddressbook | fl, on my new OAB i notice that there is a property called OriginatingServer and it was pointed to my old 2007 server FQDN, not the new 2013 one.  I found that odd that it wouldn't originate from 2013 especially when I created the OAB from the 2013 server....

My next step was to just kill all services to the 2007 box...  Essentially shutting down the old 2007 exchange server.  Everything was moved so i should be able to use it solely off 2013.  Once i did this, my Outlook 2010 clients seemed to function just fine, no long requiring username and password.  Score!  I then i tried Outlook 2013 thinking the issue would be remedied once i uninstall and decommission 2007....  WRONG.  Outlook 2013 is now broken.. I get the following error when starting Outlook 2013:

Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook.  Cannot open the Outlook window.  The set of folders cannot be opened.  The attempt to login to Microsoft Exchange has failed.

I started all 2007 services up again and Outlook 2013 is still jacked up.  Outlook 2010 is back to asking for credentials.  My worry is this:  SOMETHING is still tied to Exchange 2007.  I'm guessing it's with OAB, but no clue if that's it.

Oh  I also looked for the arbitration mailboxes for OAB, they are on the new server and i have none on the old 2007 server.  I'm at such a loss at this point.  Can anyone help me??

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

We are currently running exchange 2010 on a 2012 server.  We want to migrate our exchange 2010 to 2013.  What would be the best way of upgrading? Can we install exchange 2013 on the same server as exchange 2010 and then move the roles, or we need to purchase another server in order to install exchange 2013?

Thanks

Migrating from Communigate Pro to Exchange 2013

Hi all,

My company is currently using Communigate Pro and 90% of users use web-based email, the rest use Outlook PST. We currently need to migrate all the users' mailboxes to Exchange 2013. I have already tried one tool namely Transend Migrator which does the job but the licensing is really expensive. Anyone can please propose an alternative, preferably free one, how I can do this. Thanks in advance.

how to properly remove HUB 2010 and re-add EDGE 2010 to the same site with EX2013

$

Hello,

I'm in final phase of decommissioning EX2010 after migration to EX2013.

I decided to do mailflow change as the last step.so this is what I have now:

2x HUB/CAS 2010 (WNLB) in the same AD site as 2x MBX/HUB/CAS 2013 (DNS RR)

2x EDGE 2010 subscribed into the AD site where all servers are

Current external mail flow if from MBX2013>HUB2010>EDGE2010 > Internet and via versa.

I would like to ask for advice how to switch to:

2x MBX/HUB/CAS 2013 + subscribed EDGE 2010.

Following TechNet, EDGE can be subscribed into EX2013 in case that there is only EX2013 in the same AD site.

so, logically, I have to remove the HUBs 2010 first before new EDGE subscription which break current mailflow.

where I need a help, is what should be the proper steps to achieve my goal ?

My idea is:

  1. create new send connector on EX2013 to EDGE 2010 manually
  2. remove edge subscription from AD site
  3. remove hubs 2010
  4. create new EDGE subscription and subscribe EX2013 as it should be the only EXchange in AD site
  5. remove/disable manually created connectors

would it work or is there any pitfall ?

thanks for any advice

ECP just redirects to login page

After finally getting Exchange 2013 working, and solving why our SMTP connection keeps getting closed (see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/cd03793b-9e99-474e-8f25-11275652882f/exchange-2013-stops-receiving-external-email-after-about-8-hours?forum=exchangesvradmin)

I'm not sure why but in trying to fix the smtp problem, the OWA&ECP IIS virtual directories broke.

I found the commands to recreate the directories and the web application and done so, and OWA is back and working - However ECP now appears but when an administrator attempts to login you are just redirected back to the logon page, if you enter the wrong password you are told "incorrect password etc." which leads me to believe that it is work, just that it's either a permissions/directory security problem or an aspx problem.

Any ideas as to where i should start looking, or has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?

Hello,

I'm expirencing difficulties with exchange 2013 CU3, I installed two exchange 2013 servers one for the mailbox role and the other for CAS. After that I upgraded to CU3 and with the default configuration I cannot access the ECP or OWA.

I can access the Exchange managment shell.

I get a blank page with the url: https://CAS.Domain.local/ecp/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fecp

Edit:

After setting the authentication parametres in IIS to the default values I am instead redirected to a blank page with the following url: https://CAS.Domain.local/owa/languageselection.aspx?url=%2fecp%2fdefault.aspx

Unable to migrate users with archives

Hello Everyone:

We have an environment with a mixture of Exchange 2010 and 2013 servers.  For the most part things are working well except I'm unable to reliably and consistently migrate those Exchange 2010 mailboxes which have archives.  I was successfully able to migrate 50 mailboxes which also had archives then one day it stopped working.  All systems are updated and I am running CU2 on Exchange 2013 and Rollup 2 for Exchange 2010SP3.

The migration batch shows Synching in the GUI and queued when using PS get-move request.  The job does show up on the 2010 server but never progresses.  The report for each user shows no progress other than 2 lines indicating the job has been created.  There are no related errors in the event logs on source or destination servers.

We are stuck in the middle of a migration.  Thoughts?

Thanks!

Mailbox move stuck

Hello,

I'm trying to move mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to 2013. The move request seems to be stuck in the "Syncing" mode.
Exchange 2007 environment consists of CAS and MBX servers, Exchange 2013 has both roles on the same machine.
Mail traffic between servers, to/from internet works without issues.
Where would I start to troubleshoot it?

Thanks.
