POP3 to Exchange server 2010 migration fail due to corrupt .pst

Hey guys

So, recently my company decided to migrate from a POP3 e-mail system where each user has his/her account configured locally to an exchange server 2010 e-mail system. Many users within the company have mailboxes as large as 20gb. We have asked the users to clean their mailboxes, but you know how difficult it is to make everyone comply to this. Anyways, so I began testing with some backed up .pst files for some 10gb mailboxes to see if i could prepare myself for the migration. Turns out many mailboxes had the corrupt items inside it and would not import, failing at 10/12 percent. I tried setting BadLimit to values like 40 and -AllowBigDataLoss and the process restarted, it was taking quite some time so I went home and this morning I saw that not only the process had not finished but also it created database items (like 100k more) that consumed the entire disk space. I actually had to delete the database files so i could do something inside the server. The problem is that now the process of importing the mailbox is in a loop and i can't exclude it cause it gives me an error(resource unavailable), probably because i deleted all the database items. It is strange because the mailbox is 10gb large and the hard drive is like 200gb large. But that´s not the problem, the problem is that i need to figure out how to import those .pst mailboxes without crashing the server. If i had this problem with one mailbox, i wonder what would happen if i imported all the 113 mailboxes of the company. Can anyone point me to a solution, because probably most of the mailboxes will have bad items!

Thanks

Greetings,

I am attempting to install SP2 for Exchange 2010 and any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is failing during the upgrade process at "Remove Exchange Files".  I had an issue where the original installation software was removed, but I downloaded SP1 and renamed the folder to match the installation directory.

The error during installation is:

Error: Couldn't remove product with code 4934d1ea-be46-48b1-8847-f1af20e892c1.  Fatal error during installation.  Error code is 1603.

Autodiscover not working after exchange 2010 migration to new server

I'm migrating from one Exchange 2010 server to another on new hardware.  I've loaded Exchange, moved mailboxes, tested connectivity, everything seems to be working.  I created new connectors on the new server and pointed my firewall to redirect emails to the new server, seems to work.

However, I'm running the Exchange connectivity tester and it's failing.  It looks like the external url for autodiscover is incorrect.  (The internal one looks fine).

This is what it is showing for the url:  https://mydomain.com/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml

This is what it should be showing:  https://mail.mydomain.com/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml

I checked nslookup for autodiscover.mydomain.com and it is pointing to the correct ip address that is being redirected by my firewall to the new exchange server.

Outlook 2007: 1st Time Startup Wizard is constantly appearing upon every reoccuring login

Hello,

I have a few users that are having the Outlook 2007 Startup Wizard appearing at every single login each morning into our TS farm cluster (we're running a 2008 R2 network). What setting can be changed to make the Outlook settings "stick" to there profile?

The problem only seems to effect random users there is no rhyme or wrong reason as to why it occurs and I've never seen this happen before. Hopefully someone else has had this happen and can provide some answers.

Remove Exchange 2007 from an Exchange 2013 coexistence.

Hey everyone,

I've just installed Exchange 2013 on a new server and all is working great.  It is currently in coexistence with our old Exchange 2007 server.  I've since shut the server down and Exchange 2013 has been working without issue.  However, I haven't been able to find any articles on this matter so I figured I would ask the question here.

How do you remove Exchange 2007 from the coexistence.  Do I just uninstall Exchange 2007 from the old server and it will remove itself from the server and the domain?  Any help/link on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Chris

Exchange 2013 CAS X-CasErrorCode: MailboxGuidWithDomainNotFound

Hi,

We have 1 cas server and 2 mbx servers in a DAG outlook anywhere for internal works flawlessly. We do not use autodiscover externally yet so we set them up manually.

When i use test exchange connectivity and i use the CAS server as servername to connect it gives me the error message:

Attempting to ping RPC proxy mail.domain.com.
  RPC Proxy can't be pinged.

 Additional Details

A Web exception occurred because an HTTP 404 - NotFound response was received from Unknown.

However only when i specifically use the MBX server which holds the active copy of the mailboxdatabase it connects properly without errors. But the casserver should use active manager to see which server holds the active mailboxdatabase automatically doesn't it? I have recently updated to CU3 I have no errors in the eventlogs of both the casserver and the mailbox servers. It doesn't matter which kind of authentication i set in Outlook Anywhere also it doesn't matter wether or not i set the EXCH and EXPR settings of set-outlookprovider. I have tried reinstalling the RPC over http feature and tried resetting virtual directories of the casserver already.

Will this be fixed when i start using autodiscover?

Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

We are migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We have a new Exchange 2013 server will all of the roles installed, but none of the mailboxes have even been moved yet. We are seeing some of our users getting prompted to accept the self signed certificate on the exchange 2013 server. Exchange 2007 server is still handling all of the mail flow and connectors. Any reason why some of our users would be prompted with the certificate for the exchange 2013 server even though their mailbox is still on exchange 2007. Our users are on outlook 2010.

Hi,

We have a 2 server Exchange 2013 deployment where i updated server 2 from CU2v2 to CU3 without problems. Now the install on server 1 have been running for over 10 hours and hangs/freezes at 98% on step 13 (Mailbox role: Mailbox service).

The server name where the update hangs is "EX1.dom.local".

What do i do now?

How do i connect manually to Exchange 2013 from Outlook 2007/2010 in another forest?

Hello All,

I have a source organization: Windows 2003 domain + Exchange 2010 SP3 + smtp domain acme.com

Target organization: Winows 2012 R2 domain + Exchange 2013 CU3 + smtp domain  acme.com

We are migrating to target organization.

I want to connect Outlook 2007/2010 to their target mailbox (Exchange 2013) from a machine which is joined to Source DOmain.

I couldn't use autodiscover, because as the machine is joined to source domain, autodiscover it's mapping to Exchange 2010.

It only works when I machine is joined to target domain.

Any idea how to connect manually to eXCHANGE 2013 mailbox from a machine which is joined to source domain?

Regards

José Osorio

2007 to 2013 Migration Issue - Outlook prompting for credentials

$

I recently migrated our 2007 Exchange Server to 2013.  This is a single server setup.  Everything seemed to go fairly well.  I've been through many Exchange migrations in the past, but this is the first one that has been 2007 to 2013.  This environment has also been migrated from 2003 to 2007 in the past (not me) and the Exchange 2003 server was never decommissioned properly.  So...  I've removed the 'first administrative group' from ADSI Edit which enabled me to install Exchange 2013 without it thinking there was a legacy 2003 server installed.

Once I got everything setup I moved all mailboxes have been moved to the new 2013 server, set all URLs to the respective domain names, installed the new cert.  Pretty much followed a guide i found online for an Exchange 2007 to 2013 migration.  Everything with 2013 seems to be functioning correctly.  I have mailflow between 2007 and 2013, i have mailflow to external addresses, mailflow in from external.  OWA functions properly, ActiveSync for all of my mobile devices seems to be working just fine.

Here's my one (major) issue:

My Outlook Clients are now asking for credentials upon launch and then about every 10 mins or so thereafter.  At first i was testing with my account and Outlook Client (2013).  Then decided to test with Outlook 2010.  Same issue on both clients. After a lot of searching on this particular issue, I found a possible cause of the issue, but cannot for the life of me seem to fix it...

I've found multiple posts stating that this issue is related to the OAB connection.  This was confirmed by noticing Outlook was trying to download the OAB everytime the authentication box would pop up under the Local Mailbox tab on the Connection Status option using the ctrl+rightclicking the outlook icon in the notification area.

Also, i've noticed if i hit 'cancel' to the authentication request, Outlook functions just fine.  All folders are updated, however the request does come back.  It also shows 'need password' in the bottom right of Outlook.  It also doesn't matter how many times i enter the correct user and password it doesn't take it.  (yes, password is correct and yes, i've entered user name as domain\username, just username and username@domain).

So, I started investigating the OAB issue.

The first thing i did was verify i have an OAB.. I did... There was the default one with 2007 and there was a new one for 2013.  I did try and do a move-offlineaddressbook request during the migration process and it failed stating I couldn't move an old OAB to Exchange 2013 i had to create a new one.  So i removed the (already new) exchange 2013 OAB, and created my own and made it default.  Still no change in behavior.  I verified the internal and external URLs for the virtual directory they are correct (https://mail.domain.com/oab) and the virtual directory is linked to the OAB.

One thing i did notice that was odd was when i do a get-offlineaddressbook | fl, on my new OAB i notice that there is a property called OriginatingServer and it was pointed to my old 2007 server FQDN, not the new 2013 one.  I found that odd that it wouldn't originate from 2013 especially when I created the OAB from the 2013 server....

My next step was to just kill all services to the 2007 box...  Essentially shutting down the old 2007 exchange server.  Everything was moved so i should be able to use it solely off 2013.  Once i did this, my Outlook 2010 clients seemed to function just fine, no long requiring username and password.  Score!  I then i tried Outlook 2013 thinking the issue would be remedied once i uninstall and decommission 2007....  WRONG.  Outlook 2013 is now broken.. I get the following error when starting Outlook 2013:

Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook.  Cannot open the Outlook window.  The set of folders cannot be opened.  The attempt to login to Microsoft Exchange has failed.

I started all 2007 services up again and Outlook 2013 is still jacked up.  Outlook 2010 is back to asking for credentials.  My worry is this:  SOMETHING is still tied to Exchange 2007.  I'm guessing it's with OAB, but no clue if that's it.

Oh  I also looked for the arbitration mailboxes for OAB, they are on the new server and i have none on the old 2007 server.  I'm at such a loss at this point.  Can anyone help me??

Thanks!

A Public folder migration 2007 -> 2013 is failing with the status detail: FailedOther

Error message: There are multiple primary SMTP addresses. Please ensure there is only one primary address for address type.

I can see the Identity as a guid, but can’t seem to identify what public folder is causing the error. Is there a way to see GUID to PF Names mapping?

Thanks

Can i change my Exchange 2003 organization to NATIVE MODE if my Front-End Exchange server is Windows 2000 Server

$

I am planing to upgrade from exchange server 2003 to exchange server 2010. I understand 2010 can co-exisist with 2003, but my 2003 organization must be in NATIVE MODE, not a problem because i don't have anymore MS Server 2000 domain controllers, they were decommisioned a few moths after we moved to AD. However my Front-End exchange server that sits on my DMZ is running Exchange server 2003 on Windows 2000 Server.

Can i change my Exchange 2003 organization to NATIVE MODE if my Front-End Exchange server is on the Windows 2000 Server OS? If not, will i have to setup a new Front-End Exchange server on at least Windows Server 2003 to replace the 2000 server setup?

It's been a very long time since these servers were configured so i may need help setting up a new Front-End server if it will be required.

thanks

Exchange 2013 Migration issues

I have three issues and decided to list them here. Please pick and choose to assist. Thanks in advance.

Environment:
Mixed 2007 SP3 R12 and 2013 CU3. 2007 Environment was webmail.domain.com. I installed new Exchange 2013 (1 CAS, 1 Mailbox) according to:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032(v=exchg.150).aspx. Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com and Exchange 2013 CAS is webmail.domain.com.
Machine 1: Windows 8.1, not domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere external. Outlook 2013
Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2

I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013. This user was a Domain Admin. I have removed that membership. I checked the box to inherit permissions of the security of the object and reset the AdminCount attribute in ADSIedit to 0 and verified this replicated to all domain controllers. ( I originally thought this to be the issue with it prompting for the password. )

Here is a Get-OutlookAnywhere cmdlet...

ISSUE 1

Issue: On Machine 1 (reference above) Windows Security prompt that says "Connecting touser@domain.com". Almost always prompts when Outlook is first opened. Afterwards (if it goes away) seemingly random on when it asks for it. I put in the credentials (absolutely correct) and it fails and prompts again. I always check the box for it to save the password. To get rid of it, I click the Cancel button at which Outlook reports "NEED PASSWORD", but still acts fine sending and receiving emails. Eventually the "NEED PASSWORD" sometimes changes to say "CONNECTED", but it works regardless.
No issues on Machine 2 so I don't know where the problem might be as there are a lot of variables in play here.

ISSUE 2

Migrated user is unable to open Public folders from Exchange 2007.
Cannot expan the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (/o=...).
This error occurs on Machine 1, Machine 2 and from OWA, same error each time.

ISSUE 3

Apps. Installed by default are 4 apps (Bing Maps, Suggested Meetings, Unsubscribe, Action Items). I have made sure the apps are enabled in OWA and they show up in mail items on both Machine 1 (Outlook 2013) and OWA. They do not show up in Machine 2 (Outlook 2010). I'm assuming that isn't supported.
In OWA, when I go to the installed apps listing it shows all of the apps but has a broken link on the image describing the app.
When I click the app in either Outlook 2013 or in OWA, I get "APP ERROR, Sorry we can't load the app. Please make sure you have network and/or internet connectivity. Click "Retry" once you're back online.
Current workaround is just disabling them through OWA.

Planning a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013

Hello,

I am planning a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 and I was wondering if there was a good guide on the UM migration. I haven't found one that isn't confusing as heck.

New Exchange 2013 Setup (VMware)

Hello all

Appreciate to get help as I’m not very experience in Exchange.

I am planning to install Exchange2013 on VMs.This is a small setup with only 40 mailbox. So I'm going with Exchange2013Enterprise.

For the CAL, if I purchase 40 Enterprise CAL, do I still need to purchase 40 Standard CAL?

I plan to install the Mailbox Server and CAS on separate VM.
I’m using Exchange2013Enterprise for Mailbox Server.
Am I able to use Exchange2013Standard for CAS?

For Exchange2013, is it necessary to place the CAS in the DMZ?

Can the CAS also house the SMTP (in DMZ)?

Or the STMP needs to be both in the LAN and in the DMZ (connector)?

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2010 SP2 to SP3 Powershell script execution policies

Hi,

I have broken Labs when installing service packs on exchange 2010 servers because the powershell execution policies have been incorrectly configured. Once the WMI service has been stopped, the scripts within the SP haven't been able to start it up again.

I can't find any info on Powershell script execution policies in relation to the SP3 for 2010 prerequisites. Does anyone know what they should be set at? And why haven't these been at the top of the list of prerequisites for installations of service packs for exchange?

Exchange 2013 on 2012 Server Cumulative Update 3 Install Error "No Suitable Directory Servers Found" Answered

Topology: 1 2k12 host and 12 2k12 virtual servers. 2 Active Directory Domain Controllers both GC. - DC1 and DC2 respectively.

While installing exchange 2013 cumulative update 3, I received an error indicating that the update was not able to contact an Active Directory Server.

I bought a golden ticket and the tech entered: C:\ExchUPDCumulative3>setup.exe /m:upgrade /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms /domaincontroller:DOMAIN.DC2 into the elevated command prompt.

This solved the problem...  Subsequently, I re-ran the update using /domaincontroller:DOMAIN.DC1 to see if the problem was with my DC1 but the update ran fine. So it doesn't seem to have ever had a problem with seeing the Domain Controllers but whatever the GUI is doing to detect the Domain Controller is not working. So if you run into this problem, the command line above is the answer. Below is the error text.
