Exchange 2010 (!) on Server 2012 R2

If I am correct non of the Exchange Servers are compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2. I know there will be Update 4 for the Exchange 2013 to support this system. But I was not able to find any information regarding Exchange 2010.

What's about Exchange 2010 and 2012 R2? Again, I only want to know the facts about Exchange 2010 and 2012 R2.

Error During Exchange 2013 Mailbox Transport Role Install On Server 2012

I was installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012.  The server is not a DC, but is a member of a domain with a 2008 R2 functional level, and I was logged in as a domain admin.  There has never been an Exchange instance on this domain.  I got past the prerequisite checks, and the installer showed 15 steps, so I walked away.  When I came back, I saw this:

Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service

Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
          $maxWait = New-TimeSpan -Minutes 8
          $timeout = Get-Date;
          $timeout = $timeout.Add($maxWait);
          $currTime = Get-Date;
          $successfullySetConfigDC = $false;

          while($currTime -le $timeout)
          {
            $setSharedCDCErrors = @();
            try
            {
              Set-SharedConfigDC -DomainController $RoleDomainController -ErrorVariable setSharedCDCErrors -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue;
              $successfullySetConfigDC = ($setSharedCDCErrors.Count -eq 0);

              if($successfullySetConfigDC)
              {
                break;
              }
              Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An error ocurred while setting shared config DC. Error: " + $setSharedCDCErrors[0]);
            }
            catch
            {
              Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An exception ocurred while setting shared config DC. Exception: " + $_.Exception.Message);
            }

            Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("Waiting 30 seconds before attempting again.");
            Start-Sleep -Seconds 30;
            $currTime = Get-Date;
          }

          if( -not $successfullySetConfigDC)
          {
            Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Error "Unable to set shared config DC.";
          }
        " was run: "Unable to set shared config DC.".

The only option on the screen was exit, so I did.  I checked the start menu, and there were two new Exchange icons, but I did not click them.  I ran the installer again, and it detected an incomplete install, the only option was to click next to finish the install, so I clicked next.  This time, I eventually got the same error, except the screen showed "Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service."  I did install some Exchange 2010 prerquisites on the server before Exchange Server 2013 came out, and I can rebuild the server and try the install again if that would be best, but I thought I should post here first and try to work through this since the product is so fresh.  Any suggestions?

Exchange 2013 Migration issues

Environment:
Mixed 2007 SP3 R12 and 2013 CU3. 2007 Environment was webmail.domain.com. I installed new Exchange 2013 (1 CAS, 1 Mailbox) according to:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032(v=exchg.150).aspx. Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com and Exchange 2013 CAS is webmail.domain.com.
Machine 1: Windows 8.1, not domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere external. Outlook 2013
Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2

I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013.

ISSUE

Apps. Installed by default are 4 apps (Bing Maps, Suggested Meetings, Unsubscribe, Action Items). I have made sure the apps are enabled in OWA and they show up in mail items on both Machine 1 (Outlook 2013) and OWA. They do not show up in Machine 2 (Outlook 2010). I'm assuming that isn't supported.
In OWA, when I go to the installed apps listing it shows all of the apps but has a broken link on the image describing the app.
When I click the app in either Outlook 2013 or in OWA, I get "APP ERROR, Sorry we can't load the app. Please make sure you have network and/or internet connectivity. Click "Retry" once you're back online.
Current workaround is just disabling them through OWA.

Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2

I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013.

ISSUE

Migrated user is unable to open Public folders from Exchange 2007.
Cannot expand the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (/o=...).
This error occurs on Machine 1, Machine 2 and from OWA, same error each time.

I have tested to make sure that the Exchange 2007 server has Outlook Anywhere enabled and it is working.  To test, I set up a new profile with Outlook 2010 to connect to a mailbox still on Exchange 2007 and set it to connect via Outlook Anywhere on both fast and slow connections. It accesses the public folders just fine.

ISSUE

For the 1 migrated user, autodiscover worked great to set the user up completely with both Machine 1 and Machine 2 (on and off domain). However, when looking at the settings for the profile the server shows up as:

145fa64b-c54b-4b85-9a6a-f9dcf3517dfa@domain.com

That is the case for both Machine 1 and Machine 2. It still works, but not what I want to show there.

Thanks

Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 between different domain

Hi,

Our company have two domains controller (AD1 and AD2) but it is not trusted. Due to company change, we need to plan merge two domains to new domain (AD3). Under the plan, we will user ADMT for user object migration and password.

For Exchange, we will plan to use Exchange 2013 on new domain. I want to know that what is the best way to migrate all mailboxes from AD1 and AD2 to AD3's new exchange server. We need to migrate over 500+ mailboxes.

Please anyone to suggest what is the best way to do it ?

thanks

ECP & OWA - Blank pages

$

Hi All,

I followed the Exchange help files to ensure that all forest, domain and local server pre-requisites were installed, in the correct order, with time being allowed for replication of changes across the forest. The install went well with no errors reported. I am however having an issue with accessing the ECP (OWA behaves the same) in that the URL changes to https://serverFQDN/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https%3a%2f%2fserverFQDN%2fecp&reason=0 ( originally entered as https://serverFQDN/ecp )and all that is produced is a blank page.

Environment:

Windows Server 2008 R2 (all updates applied) freshly installed in a child domain using a Domain Admin account granted Enterprise and Schema admin rights and added to the Organisation Management group. No previous Exchange organisation existed as this is a freshly configured (pre-production) environment that I intend to migrate into. Both the MAilbox and CAS server roles are installed, the server has 16 GB of RAM

Following research on the web I have already tried:

  • Uninstalling and re-installing Windows Identity Foundation
  • Checking the mailbox for corruption using the EMS. The mailbox seemed ok but to be sure I created a new user, ran the enable-mailbox command, added the user to the Organisation Management group but still get exactly the same issue
  • Running %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -ir
  • Using the EMS to perform a Test-EcpConnectivity, it failed even with the test user created with the supplied creation script

I can't find any consistent entries in the event logs. Any suggestions?

Unable to access Exchange 2013 EAC/ECP webpage

Hi All,

Getting extremely frustrated now with a new Exchange 2013 installation on a Windows Server 2012 VM...

After having a lot of problems with the installation (didn't uninstall visual c++ which caused failure, then needed to delete the AD Microsoft Exchange System Objects group due to permission failures, etc) I've now got a fully installed Exchange server. Still, now I cannot figure out how to fix my next problem - Accessing the EAC/ECP.

I've searched every possible web guide/forum thread and the only one which is the same issue I'm having is this one: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/89c42771-78c9-4d94-88e5-557320eccc71

Unfortunately, as you can see in that thread, it is still unresolved.

Current Issue: trying to access https://localhost/ecp (or any other variation) returns a 404 Not Found.

The error page points the physical path to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ecp however that folder does not exist. I have tried manually changing the IIS site (Exchange Back End) to point its physical path to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\ecp which seems to be valid, however it doesn't work...

Not sure what else to do... HELP!

Outlook Anywhere access to Exchange 2013 / Problem with same Proxy URL and different InternalClientAuthenticationMethod and ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod

$

Hello together,

having the following problem with Exchange 2013 CU2 and Outlook Anywhere access.

We set up the ExternalHostname same like the InternalHostname and use Split DNS.
But the Authentification Methods are different.

ExternalHostname                   : mail.customer.de
InternalHostname                   : mail.customer.de
ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Basic
InternalClientAuthenticationMethod : NTLM

Is this a Problem to use the same ExternalHostname than the Internal ?

I have some Issues connecting Outlook Anywhere to Exchange from external. Seems like it is only using NTLM and thats why it wont work.

We have TMG 2010 for reverse Proxy configured to Basic Authentification. I will get a passwort prompt loop or the autoconfiguration vom external is not going through.

When i configure TMG to delegegate the authentification to the exchange Server it is working. Looks like using NTLM then. (internalauthentificationmethod) ?

We do not want to use NTLM on TMG.

Is this a known issue ? How does outlook recognize which authentication to use when having the same proxyaddress ?

i read in that post (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2754898/de) that generally the outlook connection information from internal can be seen , so how is this about the authentification method ? how can i check what is used actually ?

thanks for feedback,

best,

martin

Exchange 2013 Public Folder Migration Problem

$

Hi All,

Wonder if any of you can assist with a public folder issue I am having with Exchange 2013. We have migrated from Exchange 2010 to 2013.

I have followed the guide for public folder migration here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

Everything went fine and as per the document - except I had to use the "largeitemlimit" parameter to get the public folder migration to complete.

We tested the public folder migration by adding content to public folders and creating public folders and it all appeared to be OK, we completed the migration and removed our old public folder databases from Exchange 2010.

However we noticed later that users cannot CREATE folders in SOME public folders. It appears from some testing that any folder that does not lie in the first public folder mailbox, end users cannot create public folders.  Administrators can create them fine from the ECP - just not from outlook.

It also appears some users cannot see some folders that they have permissions to.

Can anyone assist with some ideas to resolve ?

Thanks.

Where can i find a good explanation on how to create a global adress list in Exchange 2013?

I am struggling with the ECP and Powershell for Exchange 2013. I just want to create a Global Adress List that all the users in the domain can use as the standard email/adress list. Somehow i cannot find a decent and clear manual on how to create this :(

Error installing Exchange 2010 on Server 2012 R2

I have the immense displeasure of trying to install Exchange 2010 (migrating from 2003) onto our new Server 2012 R2 server. I get to the install screen when I get this error immediately upon pressing the "Install" button:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately there is NO help on the Microsoft site about this error so I have NO clue how to fix this or what file is missing. What do I do next? I'd like to get this installed and running over this weekend. Can anyone shed light on this problem? It's 2012 R2, just patched the 15 updates that it found BEFORE installing (or attempting I should say) Exchange 2010.

Exchange 2010 to 2013

Hi Everyone,

We are currently running exchange 2010 on a 2012 server.  We want to migrate our exchange 2010 to 2013.  What would be the best way of upgrading? Can we install exchange 2013 on the same server as exchange 2010 and then move the roles, or we need to purchase another server in order to install exchange 2013?

Thanks

The EDS Job manager failed to start

Hi

I am installing the first Exchange 2013 Server in my Exchange 2007 environment
It has completed successfully but in the Application Event Log I see an error, twice:

EventID: 1032
The EDS Job manager failed to start the following jobs:
Job: 'TransportSyncHealthHubLog' is poisoned.

Anyone know a reason for this?

I can only think that it is related to Jetstress which was installed on the Server

However I removed the utility together with the folder, database and  log files prior to installing Exchange.

Thanks
