Hi

After trying to install exchange 2013 SP 1 it fails with the following error : MSSpeech_SR_TELE.ca-ES.msi couldn't be opened.

I'm running the upgrade through the command line with elevated privileges.

I've re downloaded the sp already 2 times to no avail.

The file exists in the extracted version.

Same error occurred in CU 2 I've read on forums.

Start migrating mailboxes from 2007 to 2013, completing the move at a later time

I am getting ready to migrate my student population from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 (about 7000 mailboxes).  I have already migrated 1500 employee & resource mailboxes to Exchange 2013 and all is working well.  The employee move planned over a 3 day weekend, but actually took over 5 days. To avoid this on the student move,  my plan is to start batch migrating mailboxes, but not completing the move, several weeks in advance of our actual migration start date, then complete the migration during the actual migration window.  Has anyone completed a migration move in this manner? Any drawbacks with doing it this way? I have not found much online about this type of migration.

Thanks!

Migrate to Windows 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013 SP1 using database portability

$

Hi, I'm planning to migrate from Exchange 2013 SP1 running on Windows 2012 to Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows 2012 R2.

Is it possible to use database portability to move the databases from the exchange installation on win 2012 to the new installation on Win 2012 R2? This would save a great deal of time not doing the mailbox moves.

I've searched similar cases but couldn't find any, all speak about disaster recovery and database portability but I've found no articles that uses the migration scenario.

Would it be possible to do and if so, what would the steps be? Do I need to delete the database from the source server, move the database files to the new server and mount them and relocate the mailboxes? Or should I dismount the database on the source server, move them to the new server and mount them and relocate the mailboxes?

Frank.

Concurrent mailbox moves from Exchange 2007 to 2013

We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We have about 200 mailboxes and we want to move them in groups of 40-50 at a time. I am trying to get more then 1 mailbox to actually sync to the new database at once.

I start the batch with 49 mailboxes but only 1 mailbox is showing any progress when I go to details. They all have a status of "syncing" but only one has any "items synced".

I have run multiple articles about increasing concurrent migrations from 2007 to 2010 and 2010 to 2013 and they all mention going to MsExchangeMailboxReplication.exe.config on the destination server and setting the “MaxActiveMovesPerTargetMDB" value to something larger. By default 2013 has it set to 20 would should be more than enough  for me. However despite this setting I still only see 1 mailbox syncing at a time.

Is there someplace I should be making a similar change on the 2007 box? I can't find a file with that name so I am not sure if there is something to change or if it's even needed.

Why is this not working? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

While upgrading Exchange 2013 to the new SP1, the installer reaches step 3, "Copying Exchange Files", sits at 0% for 10-15 minutes and then when without warning the machine will reboot.

Exchange 2013, Certificates, IIS, Need help

$

Hi,

I’m hoping someone here can help me in regards to Exchange 2013, SSL certificates, IIS ARR and Remote Desktop WEbAccess/GW. Half of the issue is that i’m not an Exchange/IIS/windows admin so a lot of the concepts are relatively new to me. I do apologies if these questions are noobish, but after a solid hours searching around i’m no closer to a working solution.

The idea is that as we only have 1 public IP to have all HTTPS (443) traffic direct to the IIS server and based on the sub domain and it will redirect to the appropriate server. Ie. webmail.domain.com/owa to exchange, webRD.domain.com to RD Webaccess/GW server.

I have tried to configure this as a POC and it is partially working however i’m having two main issues. One with certificates for the services and second been WebAccess/ GW traffic routing.

Certificates: Focusing on OWA, the same thing happens to RD. When i access the webmail.domain.com/owa from a client on the external interface of IIS, IIS does its thing and redirects me to the exchange owa web interface. However the issue is that it presents me with the SSL cert of host.domain.com instead of the webmail.domain.com.  So the questions is how do i create a cert the covers the external dns name without giving me an cert mismatch when it redirects to the local exchange server? Ideally i need two certs one created by me for POC testing and later on one by a trusted CA.

Also the second issue on certs is that it appears i’m only able to bind 1 cert to the entire IIS server. I have the relevant certs from the exchange server and TS server added to the cert repository under the IIS server settings. However under “site binding” for the “default Web Site” i can only have 1 cert bound to 443.  The issue i see her is that since the server will be redirecting multiple sites i need it to host certs for multiple external site names. (webmail, webapps, webRDP,  xxxx.domain.com)

WebAccess: The issue is after you log into the web portal from external client via external nic on IIS where it does its redirect, if you try to start the application it does not open with cannot connect to server. The issue appears to created because the client does not have direct access to the TS WebAccess server and the server does not have outbound access. I’ve searched around and could not find if the WebAccess server initiates the connection outbound once the client starts the app. I would of through that the connection would continue to get routed via the IIS Redirect.  The issue is mediated when i add a direct link between the client and the TS server when the initial connection is from the client to the IIS external, however this is not a solution. Based on netstat there is an active connection between the client and TS webApp directly without IIS.

Any help with this major headache would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Exchange 2013 namespace

Hi,

I am about to migrate from 2010 to 2013, have installed 2013 single server (CAS,MBX) on a exchange2013.domain.com server. I configured all virtual directories and Outlook Anywhere internal and external urls to exchange.domain.com and the official certificate has been issued to exchange.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com. Both exchange2013.domain.com and exchange.domain.com can be resolved by dns to same address, autodiscover.domain.com is not yet configured in dns.

ECP, OWA , mailbox creation and moves are working as supposed.

My question is regarding Outlook Anywhere, the only way I can connect from a client and Remote Connectivity Analyzer is by using exchange2013.domain.com as server address, but I want to use exchange.domain.com which is not bound to any hardware. I guess this will not be any problem after setting up the autodiscover in dns but I dont want to configure it before I know things are working as supposed. Shouldn't the client be able to find the user mailbox by the address configured as internal and external, that is exchange.domain.com?

Rpcping gives an 1722 error when trying with server and proxy exchange.domain.com but is ok when using server exchange2013.domain.com and proxy exchange.domain.com.

Stefan

Exchange 2007 to 2013 coexistence Legacy access

I’ve successfully installed Exchange 2013 CU1 (in a cloned environment so I’m no harm done J) and most thinks seems to work but OWA and Active Sync on EX2007 mailboxes give me some headache.

I’ve created a legacy.company.com DNS record, reconfigured the virtual directories on EX2007 and set OWA to FBA/basic.

OWA IS redirected to EX2007 legacy URL but authentication is not being passed through and you have to enter username password again at the EX2007 OWA site. Active Sync (tested on Iphone) works but you have to enter password at every sync.

What could I be missing?

All,

We are going to design a new Exchange 2013 enviroment and have 800 mailboxes totally. 600Mailboxes will have 10GB mail quota, 200 Mailboxes will have 25GB quota.

I want to know that if normally design of this case, how many Mailbox server is required ? And we will have 10% mailboxes enabled archiving function. DR Site also required.

Can anyone able to provide some suggestion for consider ?

thanks

I have:

- Exchange 2010 SP3 RU4 on Windows Server 2008 SP2;

- Exchange 2013 SP1 on WIndows Server 2012 R2.

All connections occurs to Exchange 2013 server. Everything is OK until some user mailbox moved from Exchange 2010 database to Exchange 2013. When it occurs, this user automatically switched to OWA 2013, it working, SMTP working, but IMAP and POP not working. All e-mail clients say "Username or password incorrect". We try to use DOMAIN\username, username@DOMAIN, bare username, user mailbox as username. All without result.

Exchange 2013 certificate

Hi all,

We have Exchange 2007 infrastructure as below:

1. MBX\CAS\HUB installed on one server

2. UM server

3. Edge server

We need to migrate to Exchange 2013 as below:

1. MBX\CAS on one server

2. Edge server

However, I am not sure if we can use the same certificate we are using right now for Exchange 2007 (3rd part CA)?

Regards,

Error Creating New Migration Endpoint: Staged Migration from Exchange 2003 to Office 365

I am unable to create a new migration endpoint, receiving the following message:

***BEGINQUOTE***

error
We couldn't discover the migration endpoint. Consider using the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer (https://testexchangeconnectivity.com) to diagnose the connectivity issues.

***END QUOTE***

When I visit the test connectivity site and perform the Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) test, I don't get any errors.

Where do I go from here?

Exchange 2007-2013 Co-existence breaks Free Busy time between servers

My company is in the process of migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We have used the recommended path of giving our 2007 server a legacy domain name and pointing all initial CAS traffic to the new exchange 2013 boxes. We have a few mailboxes currently living on the exchange 2013 server, but most are still on 2007. Everything seems to be working correctly except being able to view free/busy information cross server. Users can only see free/busy calendar information of other uses that are on the same mailbox server, i.e uses on exchange 2007 cannot see calendar information of users that were already migrated to exchange 2013 and vice verse. This is going to present a problem when we begin migrating more users it will prevent them from being able to schedule meetings as they normally would.  I'd be happy to provide any needed configuration information.

Migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2013

I know there isn't a migration path for Exchange 2003 but has anyone tried any type of work around?  I'm thinking about moving one of my customers users mailboxes to PST files and them importing them into Exchange 2013 on a 2012 server.  Has anyone had any experience doing this?  Below are the details of what I have and what I was thinking about doing:

Small Network - approx. 10 users

Server 2003 Sp3 standalone AD DC with Exchange 2003

Would like to move straight to Server 2012 with Exchange 2013

If I export the mailboxes and uninstall Exchange from the 2003 server will Server 2012 join the domain and upgrade the existing AD schema (forest and domain)?  If it would, could I then install Exchange 2013 on that server, create the mailboxes for the users and import the PST files?

Just wondering if anyone has tried this, or something similar.  They don't have an extra server to move everything to 2010 first so it's either a workaround or move them to Exchange 2010 (which Microsoft has quit selling).  I'm sure this will put a lot of small business VARs in a bad situation.

(Just as a side note) Is it true that Dell and HP have quit selling Windows 7 Pro? My vendor still sells it and will for 18 more months.

Availlability service in a untrusted cross-forest topology

Hi all ,

I have a question about free/busy information request , can someone help me clarify this please.

Context : Exchange migration from an exchange 2010 environment to a exchange 2013 environment with a lots of mailbox to migrate lets say 10 000. The 2 environment are separate by a wan link.  I don't have any trust put In place between the two environment. I have configure the availability service for free/busy lookup in an untrusted cross-forest topology as per the following link.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125182(v=exchg.150).aspx. Free/busy information are retrieve on an organization wide basis and not per-user basis.

Question : when a user do a free/busy request for two different user from the source exchange 2010 to the target exchange 2013 will the availability service read the 10 000 users free/busy over the wan link or only the 2 user free/busy. in other words is the 10 000 user free/busy information's go trough the wan link every time a user request free/busy information ?

thanks you for your help
