Exchange 2007 upgrade to Exchange 2013 Service URLs

$

I am in the process of upgrading to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2007. I plan on coexisting with the current Exchange 2007 server until I get all of the mailboxes moved.

Our current mail server's hostname is mail1.domain.com with the internal and external DNS of mail1.domain.com. I plan on changing the Exchange 2007 server service urls to legacy.domain.com and creating internal/external DNS records that point to the correct location. The problem that I am running into is what to set the internal urls for the Exchange 2013 server (mail2.domain.com). I cannot use mail1.domain.com internally since the hostname of the Exchange 2007 server is mail1.domain.com. If I set the Exchange 2013 internal service urls to mail2.domain.com and then set the external urls to mail1.domain.com, will that cause any issues when I do the external DNS swap? Will this cause any impact on cell phones that are tied to our Exchange 2007 server?

Customize page that displays immediately after Exchange 2013 OWA Logon page

I'm trying to figure out how to customize the page that displays for a short time after your enter your credentials on the OWA (Exchange 2013) logon page and before your mailbox displays.  I've made the logon page a different color the but this brief page still displays the default blue color.

The page displays "Outlook Web App" in the middle of the screen and has one of the loading circles displaying.  It then says one of the following lines below the loading circle: Starting..., Still working on it..., Opening your mailbox... and Almost there...

Any ideas on how this page can be customized?  I am not trying to change anything major.  I just want to change the color.

Exchange Management Console shows Hub server licensed but not Edge server

When I look in the EMC on the hub server it shows the hub server and the edge server. The hub server is currently licensed but it is stating that the edge server is not licensed. This is confusing because when I look at the Edge server EMC it shows that the edge server is licensed...

I have two questions. 1. Does the edge server have to show that it is licensed on the hub server even though it showing that the licence has been applied on the Edge server and 2. If the edge server it does have to show that it is licensed on the hub server how would I do that?

Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 cross domain migration

Hi,

We are currently setting up a new domain for a company. The new server is running Server 2012 and Exchange 2013.

The old server on the original domain is running SBS 2008 and Exchange 2007 - how do we go about migrating mailboxes across from one to the other? The domains are differently named, as are the two servers.

Many Thanks,

unable to access exchange 2013 PF from Outlook

A user is unable to access PF on exchange 2013 from Windows XP system and Outlook 2010 (14.0.7113.5000)

The error message states "Cnnot expand the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available.Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance."

I know this was a known issue with CU3, but should have been resolved in SP1 which was installed last week.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2918951

The same user has no problems accessing PF through OWA or same version of Outlook on Windows 7

What happens when outlook opens up, user gets prompted for credentials, but entering valid credentials is not getting accepted and user gets prompted continuously.

451 4.4.0 DNS query failed - NonExistentDomain

I am in the process of migrating from Exch 2007 to 2013 for a small company. It is a very simple setup of just a single domain which has 1 server, 1 organization and 1 database. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Installed a physical server EX13 for Exchange 2013 with SP1. All updates have been applied.

2. Added a new Receive Connector of EX13 in addition to existing EX07.

3. Changed SMTP port forwarding on the firewall from EX07 to EX13.

4. Migrated a few mailboxes to the EX13.

Accounts on both servers have no issues with exchanging email both ways on the Internet. However, when accounts on the old server email to migrated users, the new server does not always receive the messages promptly. There is a delay as much as 30 minutes that happens sporadically.

I checked the message header on the delayed messages and found that they had been stuck in EX07 for a long time before forwarding to EX13. From Ex07 queue viewer, I found the following error:

451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain; nonexistent domain

Net Hop Domain: hub version 15
Delivery type: SMTP Relay in Active Directory
Message Source Name: FromLocal
Last Error: 451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.dns.NonExistentDomain;nonexistentdomain

The status showed "retry" and eventually the message would be delivered. Once it went through, I sent another one again from an EX07 account to EX13 account, the message was received instantly.

So far I have tried the following:

1. Added a host entry to point EX13.my_external_domain.com to the internal address of EX13

2. Added an 'A' record on the internal DNS server with the same entry.

3. Verified that EX13.my_external_domain.com was accessible from EX07 using this FQDN.

4. Removed EX07 and leaving only EX13 on the Receive Connector list

5. Removed EX13 and leaving only EX07 on the Receive Connector list

6. Put both connectors back

There is no change of status. Every morning our users are saying that they could not email users on the new server. Then after 30 minutes, the problem disappeared but it will come back later in the day. On the other hand, users on the new server do not notice any delay when sending messages to the those on the new box. At this point, I don't feel comfortable migrating more users. Can someone please shed some lights?

Cannot install Exchange 2013 on Server 2012 R2

I receive the following error when attempting to install Exchange Server 2013 on the same machine running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials:

"An unsupported operating system was detected. Exchange Server 2013 Client Access and Mailbox Server roles support Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later and Windows Server 2012"

SP1 for Exchange Server 2013 was released but I'm not sure how to integrate it or whether or not I even need to. Please let me know if there is a fix or workaround.

Thank you.

Public folder issue - Cross forest Migration - Exchange 2010 to 2013

Hi All

Has anyone managed to migrate Public folders from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 in a  cross frost Migration.

I have successfully managed to move all mailboxes and distribution groups across, but cannot get any where with Public folders.

PF are about 200 GB and I am not looking forward to PSTs. Public folder structure has access restrictions and about 150 of them are mail enabled, so a migration is much desirable.

The 2 way trust is there between the 2 forests.

I called MS and was told Cross forest Migration is not support as yet. The recommended path is :

Exchange 2010 > Exchange 2010 ( Cross forest ) then do Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 ( In forest)

I have googled enough and there is not much help.

[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Scripts>New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -SourceDatabase (Get-Public

I believe the issue is here : -SourceDatabase (Get-Public FolderDatabase -Server  exch2010)

As there is no way to supply remote and local exchange credentials

Even if I do

Get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server  exch2010

It fails as Exch2010 is in a different forest.

Any help will be appreciated.

Weird Error Log - Ex 2013 Sp1

So, I am having a hard time figuring out why I cant get into ECP. When I login, it throws the invalid password mumbo jumbo stuff. I look into the setup, everything is correct. I even went to the extent of reinstalling windows fresh with nothing on it and still get the same thing. I decided to dig deeper and I found this weird error with OAB in IIS. Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do to fix this? I believe it is causing me other issues such as exchange management shell access denied, etc.

Midway Through Coexistence - Testing Client Connectivity with Outlook Fails

I have installed Exchange 2013 CU2.  I have not modified my spam appliances or adjusted DNS to accommodate the cut-over yet.

I've Migrated a test account from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.  I wanted to connect Outlook 2013 DIRECTLY to one of the new Exchange 2013 CAS servers to make sure Outlook Anywhere was working.  All I get are errors indicating Exchange can't open the account, Exchange must be down, etc.  OWA works fine.

Am I to understand that I can't connect Outlook directly to a 2013 CAS server by indicating the CAS server's FQDN?  Outlook 2013 will only connect to Exchange 2013 using Autodiscover to find serverGUID@domain?

Exchange 2007 - Exchange 2013 Mailbox Migration Issues

Exchange 2013 -  Mail Flow is working.   OWA Access is great.   We have issues connecting Outlook 2010 Clients.  If I create a new user and mailbox Outlook 2010 works fine.   However, if we migrate a user's mailbox to the new Exchange 2013 server.  Outlook Web (OWA) works and mail flow but "OUTLOOK 2010 can not connect to the new server"  There is something different about a newly created account and a migrated account.  Any help would be great.   I did check inheritance in AD and it was on for these accounts.  This occurs with any account migrated to the new server.

Exchange 2013 Weird Certificate behaviour - works on the server but not remotely

$

I have a DC server (mcdc) and an Exchange CAS/Mailbox server (mcexchange2). I have certificate issued from godaddy.com. Servername is mcExchange2.mailcluster.com and FQDN for external access is exchange.mailcluster.com. There is nothing wrong with the UCC certificate, rekeyed it twice to make sure that it is not something weird. I have setup the mcexchange2.mailcluster.com as internal URL and exchange.mailcluster as external URL for all virtual directories.

http://mcexchange2.mailcluster.com/ecp works fine from there but I want to use the generic exchange... name.

http://exchange.mailcluster.com/ecp from inside the exchange server works fine, all users

http://exchange.mailcluster.com/ecp from remote network gives me Error 500 internal server error when I login as Administrator. I created second account Test which is a copy of administrator and it worked for a week, now this account does not work either. Some regular users report the same problem, but it is random. Suddenly it works, then it stops. The most weird part was that it started to work in Chrome and would not work in IE. However, since the error is 500 Internal Server error, this means that the server is not responding right, so I can't figure out how it can work in one browser and not the other.

After about 2 days of working overnight I managed to get to this log data when not working(httpProxy_date.log file):

Here is hte problem.
When the system works (from the server for example), the log is searching for a database GUID that I can find in the ADSIedit. When I see the error, it is looking for a guid that I can't find in the AD. So, if using the same URL from inside the exchange server, it works and uses the right GUID for the database and it finds the database. When using the same URL from remote computer, it is searching for another GUID of a database that does not exist. And this is per user bases, some users always work, some don't, and it happens on and off. When using the mcexchange2.mailcluster.com url it always works (same UCC cert with both SANs).

So far I have istalled second server with SP1, moved everything over, it worked for about 6 hours and it does not work again. Tried moving the mailboxes. If I copy the Administrator account which dose not work now and create new testa ccount, the new account works fine. I can't delete the administrator, but even if delete/create the account, this is really not a solution.

Cross forest migration of Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Need advice

$

Hello,

I would like your advice in my migration scenario.

Source:

  • Exchange Server 2007 SP1 installed on Windows Server 2008 SP2 primary domain controller with FSMO roles.
  • Domain name is abc.org
  • We have about 150 mailboxes.

Target:

  • Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012
  • Domain name is abc123.net on a new forest
  • We will keep receiving emails on abc.org but the domain where the server, computers and everything else is on abc123.net

The way I am thinking about doing this migration is by exporting all the mailboxes with powershell to a folder and then using powershell again to import them to the new server. I did a test with one mailbox and it worked fine. I had to create an empty mailbox first.

Do you have any thoughts on this? Do you see anything I should pay attention to?

Thanks a lot!

PST Capture 2.0 - User account for Online Connection Settings

$

I'm hoping to be able to use the PST Capture tool to import users archive pst files to their Online Archive in Office 365.

I've downloaded and installed the software. Went into Settings and attempted to enter the default admin account for this customer in 'Online Connection Settings' and get this error;

Cannot connect to useradmin@company.onmicrosoft.com
inbox on server outlook.office365.com. Error is When making a request as an
account that does not have a mailbox, you must specify the mailbox primary SMTP
address for any distinguished folder Ids
.

I've read all the available documentation and it doesn't say the account for Exchange Online needs to have a mailbox, only that it needs to be assigned the Organization Management role, which it is.

I would prefer not to have to assign a licence to this account to create a mailbox. I would also prefer not to make a normal user an Admin.

So is it possible to use this default account without a mailbox?

ie how do I 'specify the mailbox primary SMTP address for any distinguished folder Ids'?

Thanks.

MAPI and Mailflow tests fail after applying SP1 for Exchange 2013 Standard

Originally installed Exchange 2013 Standard RTM, applied SU3 immediately.  After a few months, upgraded to SP1.  Found App log issues with Health mailboxes.

Found that there was no “Monitoring Mailboxes” OU.  From my understanding, this OU was not part of the original RTM release; however, it does exist in the SP1 version.  I re-ransetup /prepareAD from the SP1 installation which created the container and allowed the health mailboxes to be created.

All Database copies appeared Healthy in the EAC, showing 0 bad copy count for all, mounted for all

Databases

But MAPI connectivity now fails from C1 to all databases.  Health check prior to SP1 had no MAPI Test failures or MailFlow test failures.  Now  I have failures of both for all servers.

server errors and warnings were detected.

  • KC-P-EX1 - MAPI tests failed.
  • KC-P-EX1 - Mail flow test failed.
  • KC-P-EX2 - MAPI tests failed.
  • KC-P-EX2 - Mail flow test failed.
  • KP-P-EX1 - MAPI tests failed.

  • KP-P-EX2 - Mail flow test failed.

I didn’t have these issues prior to SP1 so I have to assume that running setup /prepareAD from the SP1 install after application of SP1 caused a change to the migration mailbox

Found this solution:

support.microsoft.com/kb/2812509

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Start the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.

Click Users, and then verify that the following account does not exist:

Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136

Note If this account exists in the Users container, go to step 4.

Run the following cmdlet:

setup /preparead/IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Run the following cmdlets:

Enable-Mailbox -Arbitration -Identity "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136"

Set-Mailbox "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136" -Arbitration –Management:$true

However, when I try to apply the fix, I get an error:

This task does not support recipients of this type. The specified recipient

kadmon.llc/Users/Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136 is of type UserMailbox. Please make sure that this

Hi, I am getting the following error during the Exchange 2010 SP2 readiness checks. The server is a member of the domain, is pointing to the correct DNS servers, and is a member of a valid site in AD.

Error: Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Could not find Active Directory site to which the server belongs.

Error: This computer does not belong to a valid Active Directory site. Check the site and subnet definitions.
