Exchange 2013 SP1 Installation Errors I Cannot Resolve

$

Good Afternoon All -

Note:  I updated this post an hour after posting.  Still no solution, but please see updated info at end of this post)

I'm trying to introduce Exchange into an existing, small environment.  The server I'm trying to install it onto is an SBS 2011 server (single server.)  Even though SBS comes with Exchange, I found out that it's installation was corrupted and someone had attempted to uninstall it before.  Yes, it's being installed onto a server with a DC.  I considered creating a Hyper-V VM on the server for Exchange, but thought it may be better to try to install directly onto server instead.

Before I started, I made sure all Exchange data had been removed.  I checked for and deleted (if present) all Exchange-related objects in ADSI, ADU&C, files, and registry entries.

When I try to install Exchange 2013 SP1, I get the below errors.  I know that some are easily resolved by installing pre-requisites - however - others aren't - especially the pending reboot one.  I've restarted the server many times when making changes or applying various updates and still get flagged to restart during installation.  I've tried the SBS 2011 repair disc as well, but had many issues with it.  In all honesty, the whole server needs to be wiped and re-installed, but cannot do at this point.

Besides the errors below, I've zipped up the ExchangeSetupLogs folder and placed them in the link below.  Also below are system specs.  The only edit I made in them is a find/replace for server and domain name.

ExchangeSetupLogs Folder

System Specs

  • Xeon E31270 3.4Ghz
  • 16gb RAM
  • Windows Server 2011 SBS x64 (Domain Controller Role Installed & Used)
  • C:\ - RAID 1 = 500gb
  • D:\ - SATA HDD = 320gb
  • E:\ - SATA HDD = 320GB

Should I perhaps try to install to a VM on the server or think that would use too many unnecessary resources?

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!

2010 -> 2013 Public Folder migration failed - Property Expression isn't valid

We just migrated from 2003 to 2010, and now on to 2013.  I have Exchange 2013 CU3 installed, and all mailboxes moved.  When trying to move the public folders, I'm getting an error about DataValidationException.  Property expression <PF Name with spaces> isn't valid......

Many articles refer to a mail-enabled public folder with spaces can't have spaces in the alias.  This is NOT a mail-enabled public folder, so there isn't an alias that I can find.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

2010 -> 2013 Migration of Public Folders blank spaces in Public Folder names

So I found the problem that I was running into with this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/466106c8-33a4-4474-83eb-2f6451e0d4eb/2010-2013-public-folder-migration-failed-property-expression-isnt-valid?forum=exchangesvrdeploy , however the question I have is a bulk solution for this problem.

The customer I am working with has just shy of 200GB of Public Folder items with many, well organized public folders that they have been using for many years. I am trying to finish up their migration to 2013 and the solution of ADSI Edit removing blank spaces is not going to be a good option, it would add days to the migration and many hours of labor.

What I am looking for is to see if there is a way to remove these spaces in a bulk or automated fashion. It may be asking a lot but it will save MUCH time and effort. If there is anyone that has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Thanks,

Joe

Lync OWA integration - changing Lync pool

$

Hello

we have an Exchange and Lync 2010 infrastructure, OWA Lync integration is already configured, we are deploying a new Lync 2013 infrastructure, so we will have new Lync 2013 FE pool and the 2010 pool will be decommissioned, everything else remains the same.
I would guess we that we to update Lync Pool FQDN on the Exchange CAS server.

Since everything else remains the same, is the following command sufficient:

Get-OwaVirtualDirectory | Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -InstantMessagingServerName <Lync Pool Name>

Or do we need to run the command with the certificate thumbprint, etc… as follows :

Get-OwaVirtualDirectory | Set-OwaVirtualDirectory  -InstantMessagingServerName <Lync pool name>  -InstantMessagingCertificateThumbprint <certificate thumbprint> -InstantMessagingEnabled $true -InstantMessagingType  “OCS”

Thanks for your help,

Luca

Weird Error Log - Ex 2013 Sp1

So, I am having a hard time figuring out why I cant get into ECP. When I login, it throws the invalid password mumbo jumbo stuff. I look into the setup, everything is correct. I even went to the extent of reinstalling windows fresh with nothing on it and still get the same thing. I decided to dig deeper and I found this weird error with OAB in IIS. Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do to fix this? I believe it is causing me other issues such as exchange management shell access denied, etc.

Hi all, I have been trying to install Exchange 2013 on Server 2008 R2 SP1. All pre-reqs have been installed and I have followed the forums to prepare the AD (no errors came up so I assume it was a success. The following error keeps coming up preventing the installion:

Error:
Active Directory must be prepared with 'Setup /PrepareAD' before domains can be prepared for Exchange 2010.
For more information, visit: http://technet.microsoft.com/library(EXCHG.150)/ms.exch.setupreadiness.DomainPrepWithoutADUpdate.aspx

I'm confused... either i have missed something in AD prep or there is something else that I may have not done correctly! Anyone came across this? I have been running steup etc. as Administartor.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards Sunny Pawar

Not sure if I've done something wrong, or if this is an issue with Ex2013.

When I activate an on-line archive on an account, if I then go to
In-Place Archive > View Details and when finished click on OK, I get an error message

error
Your request couldn't be completed. Please try again in a few minutes.

But the error message will not go away. To exit the pop-out window I need to click on cancel.
Is this normal?

I'm seeing similar errors on some Public Folder views as well.

GMAIL to Exchange 2013 Issue

When looking at a mailbox in exchange after a migration when disabling cached mode only old items show up. When cached mode is enabled again then new stuff shows up. Has anyone ever seen this before? All mailboxes were saved from GMAIL to PST files and migrated over to Exchange 2013.

Installation and Configuration Aid

Firstly, I apologize for making such a trivial thread and I thank whoever lends some of their time on this.

I am attempting to install Exchange Server 2013 on a separate machine from the domain controller. They both are Windows Server 2012 R2. I want to install Exchange Server 2013 with both Mailbox and Client Access but the second machine currently does not have enough memory for Mailbox, so for now it will be set aside. I was never able to be sure if Exchange Server 2013 was correctly installed on my attempts and I would like to know what would be necessary to have Exchange Server installed on a separate machine from the Domain Controller.

Once again, thank you for your attention.

Add account fails both internally and externally, but autodisover is working

Recently our internal DNS zone was deleted on remote DC and the change propagated to all of our DNS server. I was able to make a copy of zone and restore it. The Exchange server is back online and working for existing machines, but when we attempt to add a users profile to a new machine or a remote machine the auto setup fails. I am not sure if it is DNS related, because our external DNS was not affected, but I wanted to mention it because I think it has something to do with problem. The following happens now:

It finds the user.

Fails to logon:

Tells me I must provide the mail serve name

When I click on check name it tells me the name cannot be resolved.

I have been banging my head against the wall here, because both internal and external exchange connectivity test pass. Also,

I cannot find anything in the event logs that looks related. Any ideas?

Repair Exchange 2013

$

We installed Exchange 2013 with both roles on a VM server running Server 2008 R2 SP1 to test Exchange 2013

I ran through all the pre-installation prep steps and configured the exchange 2013 server.

Everything was looking fine.

Then I installed service pack 1 and Cumulative Update 2 and now the server will not start up.

It seems that some where in the installation of CU2 something went horribly wrong and stuffed up the Exchange 2013 installation. There are just too many errors to try and fix them one by one. Basically half the exchange 2013 services will not start.

I tried to run a repair install from the original installation media but I keep getting an error that the installation media is older than the installation currently on the server. I downloaded a new image from MS website that includes SP1 for exchange but keep getting the same error.

I tried to slipstream CU3 with the SP1 ISO I downloaded but I can't get that to work properly.

Any other suggestions short from using ADSIEdit to manually remove all the Exchange 2013 components from AD and then uninstalling Exchange 2013 from the server before re-installing from scratch?

Please bare in mind that we currently have a active exchange 2010 server in the domain that needs to run until the Exchange 2013 installation is tested and verified.

ANY assistance would be highly appreciated.

Customize page that displays immediately after Exchange 2013 OWA Logon page

I'm trying to figure out how to customize the page that displays for a short time after your enter your credentials on the OWA (Exchange 2013) logon page and before your mailbox displays.  I've made the logon page a different color the but this brief page still displays the default blue color.

The page displays "Outlook Web App" in the middle of the screen and has one of the loading circles displaying.  It then says one of the following lines below the loading circle: Starting..., Still working on it..., Opening your mailbox... and Almost there...

Any ideas on how this page can be customized?  I am not trying to change anything major.  I just want to change the color.

Resource mailboxes and contacts move during transition to Exchange 2013?

Hello,

I have not found much information about moving Resource mailboxes and Contacts to Exchange 2013 (from Exchange 2007 or 2010).

How this is done? There is nothing in EAC. Is that done by using EMS with New-MoveRequest?

Or do we have to create those from scratch?

Moving from Exchange 2007 to 2013 (leaving the DNS Server for it's own dedicated server)

$

Hello! I am quite new to Exchange and Server management in general. I will do my best to explain my situation.

I am looking to move my Exchange server off of our DNS server. When we installed them on the same server, we did not have the funds to buy 2 separate servers. I am told that it is best to separate the two. I have followed the Microsoft instructions for installing the prerequisites for Exchange 2013 on a 2012 R2 server, and i am at the point where it wants me to configure AD LDS. As I have active directory running on the current server, I was a little hesitant to just install it without understanding what i am doing.

After the AD LDS is configured, I believe i can move forward with installing Exchange 2013 (all 3 roles will be hosted on the new server), export the mailboxes from 2007 server and import them into the new Exchange 2013 server. After 2013 is up and stable, I plan on removing 2007 from the old server (DNS server).

What are my next steps after importing the mailboxes? Am i missing important details that I need to change or migrate?

My biggest fear is that nothing works after the installation and moving the mailboxes over. For that case, it makes sense to keep 2007 installed as a fallback for when my installation fails and all i have lost is just my time :)

Current Server:
Windows Server 2008 Standard (64 bit)
1. Roles: Active Directory, DNS, IIS
2. Software: Exchange 2007

New Server:
Windows 2012 R2 Server
1. Roles: ???
1. Software to install: Exchange 2013

Thank you for any help you can provide!
