Exchange 2010 -> 2013 Public Folder Migration target database gets much bigger than source database

Hi,

i have a question about the pf migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. The source database ist about 370 GB. The migration process is still running. At the moment the target database is already 491GB big. Is that a normal behaviour during the migration process.

Thanks

Is Exchange 2003 Uninstalled?

$

I recently did a migration from Exchange 2003 to 2010.  Everything seems to be working.  After having the 2003 server shut down for a week or two with no issues, I decided to uninstall it.

After a few issues with remaining mailboxes etc, the uninstall process via Add/Removed ran.  I had one error during the uninstall but unfortunately I didn't write it down.  I believe it said something the effect of an error with messaging or something.  After click past that, the uninstall proceeded.  If I now go into Add/Remove, the option for MS Exchange is no longer there however some of the services are still on the server, specifically the System Attendant and Exchange Management and they were running.  I have stopped and disable all Exchange services.

So my question is - how can I be sure it has uninstalled correctly and what are the ramifications if it didn't?  Everything seems to be working but I just have this feeling that something is still left out there and things weren't completely cleaned up.

Thank you for your help.

Windows Server 2012 R2 with Exchange Server 2013 SP1 Completely fresh install giving errors signing into EAC

Hi,

I am struggling with a completely clean installation of Server 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013 SP1.  I followed these steps:

  • Installed Server OS
  • Windows Updates
  • Added Active Directory Role (This is a single standalone server that would have been SBS until it was dropped)
  • Added DHCP & DNS
  • Added Certificate Services
  • Added Windows Server Update Services (WID Database & WSUS Services)
  • Windows Updates
  • Added Media Foundation
  • Added File Server Resource Manager and Work Folders
  • Added Windows Server Backup
  • Windows Updates
  • Checked all running without errors in Server Manager and performed a full bare bones backup.
  • Ran Setup.exe from Exchange 2013 SP1 disc.
  • Installed Pre-requisites and then rebooted
  • Windows Updates
  • Ran Setup.exe from Exchange 2013 SP1 disc.
  • Installation completed without errors
  • Rebooted
  • Checked all running without errors in Server Manager.

I Launch Exchange Administrative Center and get "problem with website's server certificate error" (normal on machine with self-assigned certificates).  Click Continue to Website and get:

Windows Security dialog box:

iexplore - "The server localhost is asking for your username and password.  The server reports that it is from Digest"

however no username and password combination will work:  have tried [Administrator]; [Domain\Administrator] even created a user to no avail.

I believe the issue is somewhere in the IIS configuration because I also get the same error when trying to log into the server website from either the server or another machine on the network.

I have tried the complete installation three times now:  (full disclosure not all of the same features/roles each time).  On the first attempt I got this error immediately and on try number 2 was able to get into the EAC and created the mailboxes but then it started giving the same error.  The above steps are try number 3.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Andy Halford

P.S. A Follow up which might be significant:  The Default Web Site is not running and will not start (it was previously running before the Exchange installation) and when I try I get the message that Another Website may be using the same port however none of the others (Exchange Back End or WSUS Administration) are using ports 80 or 443 and I still get the error when they are both stopped.

SBS 2008 to Exchange 2013 - "Create legacy Exchange host name"... Single External IP?

Migrating a customer to Exchange 2013 from SBS 2008.

Once of the Pre-reqs is to setup an external A record for legacy.customer.com for the external IP address of the old Exchange server.

The customer only has a single external IP address...

So what do I do for this external DNS of legacy.customer.com?

Can't access EAC - logging in leads to OWA2010 interface?

I just set up a new build of Exchange 2013 in an organization running an Exchange 2010 production environment. I set up the Mailbox role and Client Access roles on two separate new servers, both running Windows Server 2012. Everything seems to be running fine, up to the Exchange Admin Center login screen. But once I login, it takes me to a page that looks like OWA 2010 screen.   I certainly see no server maintenance roles, only "Manage My Organization" - which is what happens in OWA 2010.

Basically, I am comparing what I'm getting with this article:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18024.how-to-access-exchange-admin-center-in-exchange-server-2013.aspx

Everything goes fine up till Step 6.  Any idea what's going on?

How many servers to install?

$

Dear community,

we are planning a test lab Installation of Ex2013SP1.
2012R2 AD
70 Windows 7 Clients
OWA from Intranet and Internet through DMZ
about 600GB Mailbox data

Now wondering how many Server we would need.
Of course at least two, Edge Transport and CAS+MBX.

But does it make sense to separate CAS and Mailboxes? Place the CAS into the DMZ because of Internet Access to OWA?
Should CAS be on a Member Server or, like Edge, a Workgoup Server without AD?

Please help

Thanks in advance

Exchange 2013 upgrade from 2010 and no mail flow and cannot move mailboxes

$

I am in the process of moving to Ex 2013 from 2010. I have installed Ex 2013 SP1 on a new server 2012 R2. All of my Ex 2010 servers are SP3 RU 5. Ex 2013 is running and I can connect through the EAC and see all other Exchange servers and connectors that were already in existence. Several puzzling things are happening now that the servers are in coexistence:

1) As soon as Ex 2013 was installed on the network, many Outlook users are continuously being prompted to enter their domain credentials.  They can cancel the prompt and Outlook still sends/receives email.  No user mailboxes are on Ex 2013 yet.  Why is this happening?

2) I am following the Ex 2013 Deployment Assistant and I get to the step to move the Ex 2010 Arbitration mailbox to Ex 2013 and the move does not happen--it just says "syncing" and never completes.  I tried moving a test mailbox from Ex 2010 to the 2013 database and I get the same result.  I created the move request on the Ex2013 server and I see it as queued on the Ex2010 server, so I know they are "talking" to each other.  However, when reviewing the status of the move I see "MapiExceptionNoAccess: Unable to open message store".

3) There seems to be no mail flow on the same Ex2013 server or between the Ex 2010 and 2013 servers.  I created two new test user mailboxes in Ex 2013.  The Ex2013 mailboxes cannot send/receive to each other or to Ex 2010 users.  This seems strange, unless I am completely missing something in the Ex 2013 install?

I know this is a lot in one post, but following the Deployment assistant, I was hoping this would be something that others have faced.  Thanks for any input here.

Public Folder Migration seeing out of date PF name

I’m doing a public folder migration from 2007 to 2013. 2013 Does not support spaces in the public folder names (another issue, almost all PF have spaces, why was support removed in 2013?), so I replaced any spaces with underscores, but for some reason I still get the error below.

If I open up the PF on the MB server, I do not see that name anywhere, it looks correct 6A_Mobile_Cart, with underscores and not spaces.  Is there somewhere else I need to check this name?

Exchange 2013 coexistence with 2010

Who all has had problems with 2013 proxing requests to 2010? I tried a migration and couldn't even get OWA to proxy or redirect. I was receiving errors like this:

  • Autodiscover would fail for 2010 users but fine for 2013 users:
    HTTP Response Headers:
    request-id: d1e90875-53e1-4be5-ad64-24a9a5eb0c19
    X-CasErrorCode: ServerNotFound
    Persistent-Auth: true
    X-FEServer: CPC8000-CAS01
    Content-Length: 0
    Cache-Control: private
    Date: Sun, 01 Jun 2014 01:22:50 GMT
    Server: Microsoft-IIS/8.0
    X-AspNet-Version: 4.0.30319
    X-Powered-By: ASP.NET
    Elapsed Time: 153 ms

and

Created a new user on 2010 and login to OWA does this:

Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.NotSupportedWithServerVersionException

I've tried it multiple ways and I've actually done this migration before. Either way this was the same AD site, and I checked/tried the following:

  • Checked AD Replication and it was fine
  • Exchange 2013 was at SP1
  • Exchange 2010 was at SP3 Rollup 6
  • Exchange 2010 was a single server with CAS/HUB/Mailbox
  • Exchange 2010 was not using a CAS Array
  • Exchange 2013 had two mailbox servers in a DAG and one CAS server
  • I've tried both setting all external URL's on 2010 to https://legacy.domain.com/* and also not setting External URL's. Neither fixed the issue
  • https://legacy.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml worked fine (600 invalid request response) and https://owa.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml worked fine too (2013) but Test Connectivity and Outlook didn't work
  • I checked for bad HTTP Redirections on new and old servers and made sure there were no HTTP redirections added

Would really love some input to see what I did wrong. Thank you!

Exchange 2013 Sp1 Environment with BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.4

Hi ,

I am installing Exchange 2013 (2 x CAS + 2 x Mailbox) with Microsoft NLB. I am installing Blackberry Express 5.0.4 with RPC /HTTP. But, it failed to create MAPI profile and asked me to enter credentials but it failed.

Exchange Server name is resolved to one of the DAG members mailbox and I edited host file with Front End CAS pool IP with

mailbox server name which was resolved by Blackberry.

Please advise.

Exchange 2007 mailbox database is running out of space (URGENT)

Hi,

mailbox database is stored in D drive but now it has only 1GB free space left (total size is 137GB).

Logs are stored on E: drive which has 80GB free space available.
mailbox database size is 122.34 GB.

The drive is not virtual so it cannot be expanded. There is not extra drive to be used for offline defrag as Microsoft recommend  100% disk space is required in order to do offline defarg.

What would be the best solution to reduce the database size in this situation?

Office 365 Hybrid Integration?

$

We have setup Office 365, we have added Single Sign-on with ADFS/ADFS Proxy and we have run the Hybrid configuration Wizard which completed successfully. Users are able to sign on to Office 365 and users are able to use OWA on-premise, but I am confused on how we get all these to work together and not separately. Is there a specific license we need that allows the user to see both their On Premise Mail plus OneDrive together?

We are using Exchange 2013 as our mail provider and currently we have the Education A2 plan.

Thank you in advance

Jesse,

Merge two companies with Exchange- & Lync 2010 together.

Hi , I have a question about Exchange and Lync 2010.

The scenario is as follows: If two companies will merge their IT infrastructure to a new solution, and the companies have both Exhange- and Lync 2010. One company has approx.275 users and mailboxes at 13 GB per user, and the other company has approx .700 users and mailboxes of 4 GB per user.

What is the best way to proceed in order to provide users with virtually 100 % functionality during the migration process?

Thanks for help.

can't recover exchange 2013 server using recoverserver switch

CU5 crashed while installing on one of our 4 DAG members.  I was able to coax it back to life with some manual steps and doing a repair of sp1, but was unable to get cu5 to install or to cleanly uninstall sp1 despite repeated tries.

Finally I decided to rebuild it and use recoverserver (after removing database copies and removing it from the DAG).  I built a new server with the same name, reset the AD account, domain joined it, and then ran the /recoverserver switch.  But I get this error every time:

"Can't specify installation mode because no Exchange Server is installed on this machine. Install Exchange Server."
