Migrating Public Folders from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013

Hi,

I am just finishing migrating from SBS2011 with Exchange 2010 to Server 2012 Standard with Exchange 2013.

The problem I am having is when I run the New-MigrationBatch script on the 2012 server to begin migration of public folders from the SBS2011 Server.

I have followed this https://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

I run this cmdlet New-MigrationBatch -Name PFMigration -SourcePublicFolderDatabase (Get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server sbserver) -CSVData (Get-Content C:\PFMigration\folder-to-mailbox.csv -Encoding Byte) -NotificationEmails

I then get this error

A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'SourcePublicFolderDatabase'.
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidArgument: (:) [New-MigrationBatch], ParameterBindingException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : NamedParameterNotFound,New-MigrationBatch
    + PSComputerName        : server2.domain.local

I have tried changing this to direct public folder database name but I still get errors.

Can anybody shed any light as to what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance

Unable to received Email from the outside my organization

I am unable to receive external mail on my exchange server. I can send mail externally and between internal users but cannot received back from the outside world (like Yahoo mail, Gmail, Hotmail, and so on). Below are my set-up and configuration:

I used VM for all my Internal network set-up and configuration.

Host Server: Windows Server 2012 R2

1. Domain Controller: Windows Server 2012 r2----- IP Address: 10.0.1.4 (This server also server as my DHCP Server)

2. CAS and Hub Server: on Windows Server 2012 R2 (Exchange 2013 CU 8): IP Address: 10.0.1.8

3. Edge Server: on Windows Server 2012 R2 (Exchange 2013 CU 8) ---- 2 NICs

Internal IP Address: 10.0.1.9 (on workgroup); External (Public) IP Address: 192.168.1.14

The following windows firewall port was open on the edge server:

Inbound traffic                                 Outbound traffic

SMTP tcp 25                                     Secure LDAP 50636

DNS udp 53                                      SMTP tcp 25

DNS tcp 53

Edge Sync was configured successfully on the CAS Server.

4. Router -- A windows server 2012 r2 was configured as Network Address Translation (NAT) to bring internet access to my network. This machine is also a VM machine.

Public (External) IP Address: 192.168.1.13); Internal IP Address: 10.0.1.1 (This address is my internal Gateway IP Address)

5. I configure port forwarding (SMTP) to the internal IP Address of my edge server (i.e. 10.0.1.9)

For the purpose of this testing I bought a domain name and SAN Certificate for a year. Below is my Public DNS Configuration:

FQDS                                          DNS Record Type      Value

DCK.co.uk                                   MX                           mail.dck.co.uk

mail.dck.co.uk                              A                              192.168.1.14

owa.dck.co.uk                              CNAME                     mail.dck.co.uk

autodiscover.dck.co.uk                  CNAME                     mail.dck.co.uk

Note: An A Host record was created for the Edge Server on the internal DNS with the internal IP Address.

Edge        A           10.0.1.9

I look forward to hear from you.

Thanks

Cluster Updating with Exchange 2013

I am asking this here on exchange forum even though it has to do with server 2012 but the servers have Exchange 2013 and i DO NOT want updating to mess up Exchange.

Server 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1. Exchange has 1 DAG with 2 member servers. Exchange servers are hyper-v 2012 R2 VM's. All roles installed on each server. I have not installed any updates to either server 2012 or exchange 2013 since the move over to exchange about a year ago. So now to my question:

  1. how do i correctly update server 2012 r2 without breaking exchange 2013?
  2. Are there any server 2012 updates that you have experienced break exchange 2013?
  3. Do i configure/use cluster aware updating snap-in?
  4. If i use CAU, does it matter in what order i apply the updates (active copy vs. passive copy)?

Thanks for any help.

kb3031133 didn't work for me -- mailbox migration from 2007 is still creating a duplicate contacts folder

Hello,

We applied kb3031133 with hopes of preventing the migration process from duplicating our Contacts folders when migrating mailboxes (it creates a second, empty Contacts folder).  We installed CU8, rebooted, and migrated another mailbox.  The contacts folder was duplicated again.  Any ideas?

2007 to 2013 mailbox migration - Outlook 2010 Search folders stop syncing read/unread status of e-mails.

We've noticed that after migrating a mailbox from 2007 to 2013, any search folders in the user's Outlook 2010 client still work but they no longer sync the read/unread status of mail items.  If we read an unread item, the search folder continues to display it as unread.  The workaround is to delete and re-create the search folder.  Any ideas?

Hello!

We have a customer that has a blade server host running VMWare that crashes in the moment that we start the installation of Cumulative Update 8 for Exchange Server 2013 running in a VM. In that moment all VMs passed to another server host.

We repeated the procedure 3 times with 2 differents hosts and the same issue happened.

Does anyone knowwhat is causingthe problem? Is it possible thatthe problem wascausedbythe update?

Thanks in advance

Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting after Exchange2007 to Exchange2013 migration

$

Hi,

I’ve migrated a customer from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 successfully. However. There are troubles with booking resources. Users receive the following error message when booking a resource: Direct Booking – Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting.

The user follows the following procedure:
The user opens his/her ‘own agenda’, create a meeting, use Scheduling Assistant to schedule a meeting with another user and to add a Room. When hitting Send the above message appears.

When the user has Full Control to the resource mailbox and the user opens the agenda of the resource directly and follows the above procedure in the ‘resource agenda’ he/she is able to book the resource without a problem (this workaround is not preferred as a final solution).

To fix this, I’ve tried the following:

Add a registry key to the client. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar\EnableDirectBooking (0)

Turn cache mode ON, this works.
However for some users cache mode must be turned off, so this workaround doesn’t apply for all the users.

I worked with Full Control permissions on the resource, so that the user is able to book directly from the ‘resource agenda’.

Some more information:
Public Folders are not in use anymore.
There are several clients in the environment:
Windows XP with Outlook 2007
Windows 7 with Outlook 2007
Windows 7 with Outlook 2010  (I do not have a confirmation if these symptoms also apply on these clients as well).

Does anyone has a final solution for me?
Or how can I troubleshoot this any further?

Thanks in advance,
Yuri

Event IDs 16025 and 205

Hi

A newly installed Exchange 2013 Server (Mailbox and Client Access roles) shows every 5 minutes the event id's 16025 and 205 in the eventlog.

Both events are shown twice at the same time. First 205 then 16025 and again 205 and 16025.

Level: Error
Id 205 - Source: MSExchange Common
Id 16025 - Source: MSExchangeFrontEndTransport

Both have exactly the same description:
No DNS servers could be retrieved from network adapter 0957d69c-9b06-4b72-aa6b-ac825435b485. Check if the computer is connected to a network and Get-NetworkConnectionInfo returns any results

Get-NetworkConnectionInfo shows the following results:
RunspaceId  : e854435f-ffbe-4ccb-81d9-7e729284e26a
Name        : Microsoft Hyper-V Network Adapter
DnsServers  : {10.10.32.34, 10.10.32.42}
IPAddresses : {10.10.32.45, 10.10.32.44, fe80::9cb9:ad68:c7cc:2052}
AdapterGuid : 0957d69c-9b06-4b72-aa6b-ac825435b485
MacAddress  : 00:1D:D8:B7:1E:2A
Identity    : 0957d69c-9b06-4b72-aa6b-ac825435b485
IsValid     : True
ObjectState : Unchanged

Mailflow is working, I would like to get rid of these error events.

Any suggestions?

Peter

Exchange 2013 Role Uninstallation

$

Can anybody confirm if Exchange 2013 supports uninstallation of specific roles, i have tried running:

"Setup /Mode:Uninstall /Roles:ClientAccess /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms"

however that returns the following error:

"

Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Unattended Setup
The parameter 'roles' is not valid for current operation 'Uninstall'.
Setup checks failed: Invalid command line arguments.

Please type 'setup.exe /help' for more information.

"

Despite "setup /help:uninstall" listing the following as an example:

"

Exchange Server Installation Usage:

    Setup /Mode:Install /Roles:<roles to install> [<OptionalParameters>]
      /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    Setup /Mode:Uninstall /Roles:<roles to uninstall>
      /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    Setup /Mode:Upgrade /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

"

These two statements seem to dispute each other.

Office mail merges are extremely slow after upgrade to Exchange 2013

Ever since we migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 SP1, our employees have reported that mail merges are taking triple the amount of time to send messages. What used to take an hour is now 3 to 4 hours. Some offices are required to send upwards of 6,000 messages at a time. I know Exchange 2013 handles throttling differently than previous versions however the default (global) ThrottlingPolicy was sufficient with our previous 2007 installation. I've never had to deal much with Throttling so I'm not exactly sure of what settings I should be looking at....also I'm not sure if this would even be related to throttling. Has anyone experienced this issue before with Exchange 2013 and could you provide any recommendations or settings that I need to be focusing on in relation to Outlook client connections? We are currently using the GlobalThottlingPolicy for all users.

Mailbox Migration Exchange 2010 to 2013 very slow

I'm experiencing very slow migrations:  A 700MB mailbox took 4 hours.  I Have 3,800 mailboxes to move, at this rate it will take two years to complete going 24/7/365.

Does anyone have any ideas?  This is running from a 2010 DAG to a 2013 DAG, all servers have latest updates, service packs, etc.  DAG status is all healthy.

2010 = Update Rollup 8-v2 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 (KB2986475) 14.3.224.2
2013 = Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 7 (KB3040856) 15.0.1044.29

What can be done to speed this up?

Exchange 2013 proxy configuration (WinHTTP?)

$

Having problems getting Exchange to support internal free/busy and inter-org mailbox migrations at the same time.  It looks like the Exchange 2013 powershell command (Set-ExchangeServer-Identityyourservername-InternetWebProxy) doesn't allow for a proxy bypass so that we can ensure all our local traffic stays local.   I've found many articles that indicate that this issue can be overcome in Exchange 2010 by modifying the proxy config associated with WinHTTP.... Unfortunately I'm unable to find any reference to Exchange 2013 using WinHTTP.   Can you provide insight into how a proxy bypass can be specified in Exchange 2013?

Here's the article that covers Exchange 2010.  Unfortunately no reference to Exchange 2013 in this article.   I'm hoping for some document from Microsoft that details proxy bypass for Exchange 2013 because I need to share this information with my client.

Configuring Proxy Settings for WinHTTP

Thank you in advance!

Outlook 2013 office client work with exchange 2013 on site seems to be trouble.

I have installed a new exchange 2013 server (standard) on a server 2012 R2.

Its up and running and I can access it just fine through owa.

I have made autodiscover service records, cnames and when I run the remote connectivity analyzer and test outlook connectivity

it goes green. and so do the other tests.

But when I actually do try to set it up with an outlook 2013 client. The auto discovery works fine.

Everything gets filled in, I click next and finish  and then outlook 2013 client cannot start due to Error.

It says I have to make a connection before I can sync.

I have installed a certificate, not self signed but a real one.

There is just nothing around describing it from a to z how to get a setup working without having a hosting party involved but just a local exchange 2013 server connected to internet with certificate, and a local installed office 2013 outlook client that needs to connect to it.  Why if it works fine with the webclient is it such a pest to get it to work with an outlook client???

if the certificate is good, the autodiscovery works, why does it still not just connect. Its a big mistery to me but perhaps I miss some easy clue.. internal and external urls are the same and its just 1 server no load balancing involved or special high availability stuff.. Just simple 1 to 1 setup.    I was really amazed that it did not work right away..

Well I am open to good solutions or hints to continue to hunt it down. I did turn on logs in registry for outlook client and see some unautorized access responce 401 5   with the autodiscover.sync.1.log  and thats quite strange. but perhaps it helps someone to figure out what goes wrong.

Move linked mailboxes to source domain

$

I'm responsible for two separate but related organizations. Prior to my arrival here, a single Exchange 2010 server was in place with the users of one domain assigned User Mailboxes, and users of the other domain assigned Linked Mailboxes.

I'm trying to break this apart & have those linked mailboxes be user mailboxes in their source domains attached to the already existing users. I'm attempting to use the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 script to facilitate this, but get the following error:

The operation couldn't be performed because object '{DC/OU/CN}' couldn't be found on '{domain controller FQDN}'.

Cannot create mail enabled user because an existing object with type already has the same proxy address/MasterAccountSid.

I've set the -UseLocalObject switch in the command, and I'm certain the user exists in the location returned by the error.

Migrate mailboxes over WAN link

Hi

Does anyone have any experience moving mailboxes over a WAN link using new-Moverequest?

We need to move about 1000 mailboxes from the US to the Netherlands over a 100Mb line with an average Roundtrip latency of 150-200 ms ? We need to move 9TB of maildata over a 100Mb link. Is this feasible? I don’t think we’re allowed to copy alle mail data on diks and fly them in.

Thanks for the feedback.
