AD: Windows Server 2003 SP2
Exchange: Exchange Server 2013 CU2

The server were working fine. But i not able to access ECP or OWA. When i tried to access via Internet Explorer - https://mail.email.com/ecp, it will display Bad Request - Invalid Hostname. If i tried using IP - https://192.168.1.2/ecp, it will display Not Found. If i tried using server name - https://exchange.domain.local/ecp, it will display Not Found.

In IIS manager's Default Web Site and Exchange Back End, i have added the mail.email.com as Host Name. But i still not able to open webpage for ECP or OWA.

As for the Exchange PowerShell,

how to move/remove arbitration mailboxes on corrupted (?) and unmounted DB Exchange 2010

Hello all, thanks for reading!

Installed Exchange 2010 onto a 2008 server SP2 in my 2007 Exchange environment.

At the end of the install, there was an error with the MB Role install.  Now I have a mailbox DB that is not mounted with a copy status of ServiceDown.

I tried making a new mailbox DB but they error out with the following

I wanted to uninstall/reinstall the MB role but I get an error indicating there are mailboxes in this new DB.  I believe these to be the arbitration mailboxes.  Running get-mailbox shows one MB named DiscoverySearchMailbox that is on the Exchange 2010 server.

Any thoghts on how I could proceed?

Mailboxes migrated from 2010 to 2013 cannot be accessed, new 2013 mailboxes can

Hello all,

I have installed 2 exchange 2013 servers (1x Client Access, 1x Mailbox) in an existing 2010 SP3 environment.

  • When creating new mailboxes, these mailboxes work perfectly fine.
  • When migrating an existing (2010) mailbox to a new 2013 database, the migration takes very long (>24h per mailbox, also very small ones) and eventually complete with warning that the old database cannot be cleaned up.

This migrated mailbox cannot be accessed by OWA nor by Outlook 2013 clients. Get-Mailbox does show the mailbox in the new 2013 database.

How can I troubleshoot this?

Regards,
Stephan van der Plas

EMC and EMS won't load

$

After applying the latest available updates to my Exchange 2010 server (all roles on the same server), I experienced many problems with all Exchange services.  Finally got everything working after applying SP3 and Rollup 2.  However, I still can't access EMC or EMS.  I've tried every fix posted on the net, including the Kerberos settings, authentication settings, removing/creating the Powershell virtual directory, etc.  OWA and Activesync appear to be working well.  The problem I am having is related to the powershell assembly microsoft.exchange.configuration.redirectionmodule, which won't load.  Note that I have checked redirection on the default website and redirection is NOT enabled.  Also, SSL is NOT enabled on the powershell virtual directory.

Note that all references to the server name have been changed for security purposes.

The error I get from the EMC is:
Connecting to remove server failed with the following error message: The WinRM client cannot process the request.  It cannot determine the content type of the HTTP response from the destination computer.  The content type is absent or invalid.  It was running the command 'Discover-ExchangeServer -UseWIA $true -SuppressError $true -CurrentVersion 'Version 14.3 (Build 123.4)"

When I try to browse to the path http:\\localhost\powershell I get this error:

Grant user permission to edit Global Address Book

Hi,

I have granted a user the ability to edit / mange their organization through the Exchange Control Panel.  Once the user logs in, they can make all edits except the actual street address.  The city, state, zip etc. can be changed.  But the 'Street' field will not accept any characters.  I made her a member of the helpdesk role.  I also logged into the ECP as the actual domain administrator, and I cannot edit the street field either.  Anything I'm missing?  Thanks

Exchange 2007 SP3 installation

I am upgrading my Exchange 2007 sp1 to sp3.  Exchange is running on Win 2003 R2 sp2.  When I ran the SP3 I got the following error.

An error occurred when executing 'ldifde.exe' to   import schema file C:\Exchange_sp3\Setup\ServerRoles\Common\Setup\Data\PostExchange2003_schema6.ldf'.   Error code: 8202.

I followed the instructions from MS KB948214 to resolve the issue.

Is there a utility or tool that I can use to check my schema for issues before I install Exchange SP3?

Domain Function Level 2003, Exchange 2013

My organization is running exchange 2013 and current DFL of 2003. The DC's are 2012 with the exception of 1 GC that was left at 2003.(oversight) I would like to decommission that one, replace with another 2012 DC and raise my function level to at least 2008R2 but preferably 2012. Could this cause any issues with the existing exchange servers? Any other concerns? Pretty wary of breaking something. Hoping this will resolve some of the quirky issues that older migrated accounts are seeing.

Thanks

Creating business email

hello everyone. Okay this question might be a little too basic from a lame man. I want to know how do I create a business email with custom address like abc@mydomain.com using exchange?

Do I need to buy domain elsewhere or does microsoft provide the domain?

If elsewhere, after having bought the domain, do I need to also buy hosting services?

Ps: this is only for email. I do not want to create a website

Thank you

Client Access transition from 2007 to 2013

Hi all,

Currently i am trying to setup exchange 2013 into coexist exchange server 2007. The setup has completed successfully, so does mailbox migration test from 2007 database to 2013 database.

My questions is, when i accessing 2013 ECP, select Server Menu, i can see the coexist 2007 server along with 2013 server, but on database tab, there are only databases belong to 2013. The user from 2007 database cannot access his mailbox from 2013 OWA.

My questions are:

1. Is it normal, that 2013 ECP will not listed the 2007 database? If not, what are the configurations i have missed?

2. If it is normal, then let say that i would like to do mailbox migration gradually (because it will take very long downtime to migrate a bunch of mailbox), how user can still access mail.domain.com from outside organization and the 2013 CAS will understand whether this user's belong to 2013 mailbox (user has been migrated) or 2007 mailbox (user that has not been migrated)?

Thanks.

Exchange Server 2010 high availbility over two sites

$

I have thought of the following configuration with Exchange Server 2010

Main site:

1- two CAS/HUB servers(CAS1 & CAS2) with hardware loadbalancer in a CAS array(CASarray1)

2- two MBX servers(MBX1 and MBX2), all mailboxes divided over 4 mailstores per server, so 8 in total

DR site:

different AD site

1- single CAS hub server (CAS3), in CAS array(CASarray2)

2- one MBX server (MBX3)

I was thinking of to create one DAG over the three mailbox servers. All mailstores are replicated between MBX1 and MBX2, plus ALL mailstores are replicated to MBX3 in the DR site.

Now, when one of the mbx servers in the main site are going down, people can continue working since the DAG provides their data on MBX2 as well. When one of the CAShub servers in the mainsite is going down, I also have a second CAS/HUB.

But now, when both CAS/HUBs and/or both MBX1 and MBX2 are going down, so when the main site is unavailable, how do I switch over to our DR site?

If the MBX server 1 and 2 are down and the user is connected to MBX3, which is in the DR site, it will try to use the CAS3 server there, since it will look for a CAS/HUb server in the same site. And so on....

Could you please advise on how to set up a scenario on this or tell me whether the config I have in mind is correct?

Thanks in advance

Extremely slow Mailbox move between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013

I am trying to migratemailboxesfromanExchange 2007 server withall roleson a single servertoa newExchange2013server Environment (two serverswith both rolesinstalled). I also have aDAG.

My problemis that it takesan extremely long timeto move largemailboxes(2 GB andlarger). I useEACfor mailboxmove.Smallmailboxes arenot a problem.

I've found thatif I restart the Microsoft Exchange MailboxReplication Service the migration starts over again but after a while it hangsagain.

Does anyone have any idea where the problem lies.I cannot holdon to restart the service all the timethen the migration
will take months to complete. It's a small organization.

For information, I run the following commandswithout success (KB951037).

  • netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled
netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Then rebooted the servers.

Unresolved ObjectType on all newly created or migrated 2013 Mailboxes

When migrating or adding a new user to Exchange 2013, I get the following error when going into the Mailbox Delegation section in the Exchange Admin Center.

The object <Object CN> has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:

The access control entry defines the ObjectType 'Object GUID' that can't be resolved.

I have done the following to try and resolve the GUID

Searched via LDP, ADSI, ADUC, Repadmin, with nothing found. I've converted the GUID from string to hex and searched with still no luck.

I get the identical error when running a Get-ADPermissions on the object as well.

There are no inheritance blocks on the object or OUs.

I've opened a Premier case, but wanted to ask the community if they have seen this or had any suggestions. As of right now, Exchange 2013 is the only app that can see this orphaned object.

Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 Transition and Autodiscover

Hi

We are in process of transitioning from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Out Exchange 2007 infrastructure is as follows:

  1. Standalone Exchange 2007 mailbox servers
  2. Load Balanced CAS (HT co-located) servers using Hardware Load Balancers
  3. All the internal URLs including Autodiscover point to VIP (Load Balancer IP)
  4. We do not currently provide connectivity to Exchange from Internet except for ActiveSync protocol

My question is specific to Autodiscover service during the co-existence period, so:

  1. When we have new Exchange 2013 CAS server added to AD site that already has Load Balanced CAS servers, does this new addition creates a new Autodiscover SCP for new Exchange 2013 servers?

My understanding is that every new CAS addition (irrespective of Exchange version creates a autodiscover SCP in AD). Also, when Outlook 2007 is installed on a domain joined workstation then the Outlook client will query Active Directory for the Autodiscover information. Active Directory will return a list of SCP’s and the Outlook client will automatically select the first SCP in this list. Using the information found in the SCP the Outlook client will contact the Client Access Server for its configuration information and the Outlook client will be configured automatically.

When we load balance the CAS servers, using PowerShell commands we change the Autodiscover SCP to point to VIP FQDN.

  1. If it does creates a new Autodiscover SCP for CAS 2013 (which is not part of NLB), will the SCP selection of Outlook client be non-deterministic/random (as usual) and can pick up either Load Balanced CAS SCP or new Exchange 2013 SCP? Or what’s the behavior in this case.
  2. If for example, Outlook client picks up and contacts Autodiscover SCP of new Exchange 2013 CAS server and all mailboxes are still on Exchange 2007 MBX servers, what will happen – a Proxy or a Redirection? Please detail this scenario.
  3. Can a Exchange 2013 CAS serve Autodiscover requests for users whose mailboxes are hosted on Exchange 2007 or, does this request needs to be proxied/redirected to Exchange 2007 CAS/MBX role?
  4. Is there anything like when we introduce a new Exchange 2013 CAS server to existing Exchange 2007 environment, the existing Autodiscover SCPs (whether they point to CAS FQDNs or VIP FQDN) are over-written to point to new Exchange 2013 CAS servers? So in effect, CAS 2013 will take over all the Autodiscover requests coming from clients – PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG.
  5. Does changing the AutoDiscoverServiceInternalURi value to single value (https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml) for all the CAS servers (Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013) can help in any scenario?

Please help by sharing your experience/views/ideas

Thanks
