Exchange 2013 Journalling help Required..

Hi All,

please help me to resolve these concerns for one of my customer..

(1) I am going to enable journalling for my all users. i will have retention period of one year and after one year i have to delete all mail items from journal mailbox. is there any cmdlet that can delete all mail items without login and configuring outlook for journalling mailbox and deleting mail items manually?

(2) i don't want Delivery receipt and read receipt to deliver into my journalling mailbox. is there any way i can restrict such mails from delivering into journal mailbox? also i have noticed that if i Enable Database Level Journalling i receive a lot of mails delivered to Health Mailbox..is there any way to restrict to deliver these Health/monitoring mails to journal mailbox??

(3) How can i search Mails TO/FROM a particular user via e-discovery of i have enabled Database level Journalling??

thanks,

Aanand Singh

Outlook Profile not updating after migration

Hi,

Running a fairly straight forward setup

Clients = Outlook 2013

Legacy Exchange = 2010 UM SP3 RU4

Exchange = 2013 UM CU3

They're currently in a coexisting state

Have configured autodiscover, Outlook Anywhere etc.

Re-issued a cert with the same common name and included both legacy and new exchange servers

Split DNS

The issue that I have is after I have migrated a user from 2010 to 2013 they get prompted for credentials opening their outlook client and once they authenticate it states that it can't connect to exchange.

Checking their mail profile settings and I note that it still points to the 2010 FQDN

If I disable the Exchange RPC service on 2010 (effectively stopping any 2010 users from working) then the newly migrated user can open outlook fine (still gets an authentication prompt to which they must authenticate). Checking their mail profile their after shows a series of numbers @ domain etc which is expected.

If it is a first logon user or you repair the profile the path updates too and Outlook works as expected.

Any thoughts?

Mailboxes wont move to Exchange 2013

Im currently attempting to move mailboxes over to Exchange 2013 from 2010. Upon creating the initial migration batch of 34 boxes, 31 failed and 3 system boxes completed. I then attempted to migrated a single mailbox and it completed without errors, however, the mailbox didnt actually appear to have been moved.
I get 0 Total 0 Synced 0 Finalized and 0 Failed.
When I view the details on the batch, it shows nothing.
Any ideas?

Exchange 2013 cu3 setup fails with 'problem... validating the state of Active Directory... supplied credential... invalid'

Windows Server 2013; Exchange Server 2013 with Cumulative Update 1

Cannot install Cumulative Update 3 for Exchange Server 2013. It fails with

[xxx] [0] [ERROR] Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Active Directory operation failed on . The supplied credential for 'XXX\Xxx' is invalid.  See the Exchange setup log for more information on this error.
[xxx] [0] [ERROR] Active Directory operation failed on . The supplied credential for 'XXX\Xxx' is invalid.
[xxx] [0] [ERROR] The supplied credential is invalid.

(Crosses - XXX - replace original values.)

I have found that a few others have experienced the same problem but found no solution, nor could come up with anything myself. If it is any hint, Event 40961 was logged in the Event Viewer around the same time on almost all installation attempts to be purely conincidental:

The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server ldap/xxx.xxx/xxx.xxx@XXX.XXX. No authentication protocol was available.

Both Windows Server and Exchange Server otherwise work OK, and do not recall any issues with Cumlative Update 1 installation.

Installing Exchange 2013 prerequisites into a 2012 Domain on Hyper-V

I have been searching through all the documentation on installing the prerequisites for Exchange 2013. I have the list, I am not sure which Server to run them on. Here is my scenario - I have Server 2012 R2 running AD, DNS, & DHCP on top of a Hyper-V Box. I have another Virtual Server Running Server 2012 Standard to host the Exchange 2013.

What I cannot find is which of the prerequisites do I need to run on the 2012 R2 Domain Server and which do I need to run on the 2012 box hosting the Exchange 2013?

Also, why do I get an error when I am logged in with Administrator Rights, that says I do not have the correct Rights to run these Scripts for Exchange.

Thanks for the help!

Exchange 2013: Problem with Default Global Address List after migration

I just completed a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  The 2007 box has been decommissioned just last week.  I have been seeing weird issues with our offline addressbook and global address list, since the migration, but always thought it was related to Ex2007.  Well the issues still exist and here's what i've found so far:

1.  If any user goes to Schedule Appointment in Outlook, and they click the Rooms button (on the Scheduling Assistant page), we get a LONG wait (about 5 mins or more) and then an error that says:  "The operation could not be completed because an offline address book is not available.  Download a copy of the offline address book."  When i click OK, the address book is up, with the "All Rooms" list showing blank (we have 3 rooms in Exchange currently).

2.  Now if I go to the Address Book in Outlook it opens to the GAL and it's up to date...  I can also force an update to the offline address book after adding a new group or entry, so i know offline address books are being updated properly and working.  HOWEVER, if i go to any of the other address lists (besides Contacts and GAL) under All Address Lists (All Contacts, All Groups, All Rooms, All Users and Public Folders) I get the same error given above:  "The operation could not be completed because an offline address book is not available.  Download a copy of the offline address book."

3.  I went to the Exchange 2013 EAC and went to Organization -> Address Lists.  Everything under here said 'NO' under the Up-to-Date column.  When i looked at the properties on each list, and clicked save, I had to update to the new version. After doing this, the Up-to-Date column said 'YES'.  I could do all lists EXCEPT for the GAL.  It still says 'NO'

4.  The last thing i did was set my Outlook to NOT be in cached mode.  This should give me a direct connection to the GAL and all lists, if I'm not mistaken...  So when i do this, I cannot even open see the GAL.  The ONLY option in the Address Book that comes up is Contacts (which are my personal ones).

5.  I just now ran Get-GlobalAddressList | fl  in powershell on the Ex2013 server.  I see some things that make me wonder...   First; nothing in the RecipientFilter field, however, there is something in the LdapRecipientFilter field. Second; the RecipientFilterType field says "Legacy".  and Third; the RecipientFilterApplied field says "False".

Didn't know what these should all be, but it appears maybe this is the cause of all my issues??  Can someone help me out here.. even if i have to recreate a new GAL, i'm fine with that, I just don't know all the steps to do so.  I just need it to work!

Thanks

Jeff

computer requires the update described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB2619234

I have a Windows 2008r2sp1 server that I would like to setup a test environment for Exchange2013.  I have tried to install the prerequisites in the technet article here (technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354).  But when trying to install the HotFix (437878_intl_i386_zip.exe) I am told that "This update is not applicable to your computer".  I tried to run the Exch2013 Install anyway after a few minutes it too tells me that "This computer requires the update described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB2619234" and I have downloaded the file a second time and rebooted multiple times as well, but cannot seem to get past this HotFix install.  Can anyone tell me what I missed?

Planning Exchange 2013

I am Beginner, I have a requirement where the company want to use three exchange mail boxes for certain users.

Requirements :

All three exchange servers should have own directories (GAL).

User should use only one password to access all three mail boxes.

Based on the search people suggested the Exchange resource forest solution. Please suggest resource forest is the solution

Hi,

I have installed an Sophos antispam system and I have connected it to Exchange Server 2013.

Cannot remove dial plan on old 2007 UM server

I'm in the process of finalizing the migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013. At the moment trying to remove an old 2007 UM Server.
With the following command I tried to remove the server from the dial plan:
Set-UMServer -Identity Ex2007UM -DialPlans $null

But the following error is shown:
WARNING: An unexpected error has occurred and debug information is being
generated: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Set-UmServer : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

The same error is shown when using the the Exchange console to remove the server. I've also tried 'Set-UMService' in the Exchange 2013 shell but it just return: You can't change the dial plans of 'EX2007UM' (an Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging server) using an Exchange 2013 server. You must run the cmdlet on an Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging server.
I made sure the LegacyPromptPublishingPoint in the dial plan is empty and the object states ExchangeVersion: 0.10 (14.0.100.0)

Anything else that I can try?

Autodiscover and Exchange Multiple Forest

Hi Guys,

Appreciate input here.

Environment:

2 x Windows 2003 Forests with two way trusts ( ForestA, ForestB)

ForestA = Exchange 2007

ForestB = Exchange 2010

Clients = Outlook 2007/2010

Scenario:

We are migrating ForestA mailboxes to ForestB. This is been done with the Quest tools where the user's mailbox is migrated to  Exchange 2010 and its created as a linked mailbox in ForestB to the user account in ForestA. There will be some coexistence time between the two Exchange infrastructure. But eventually Exchange 2007 in ForestA will be killed.

Issue:

Now as we are going to have some Outlook clients in ForestA logging into ForestA Exchange 2007 and others logging into ForestB Exchange 2010. My main concern is with autodiscover. When Outlook user in ForestA opens Outlook it will do an SCP lookup and the info provided will be ForestA Exchange 2007 and this will be fine if the user mailbox resides on Exchange 2007 but if it resides on Exchange 2010 the information is all wrong. So I was thinking of the solution below to fix this or is there a better way?

Solution?:

- Create and autodicover A record in ForestA point to Exchange 2010 in ForestB

- Disable SCP on the client to be migrated to Exchange 2010 this will then force them to use the autodiscover A record I created

Will this work, is there a better way. I saw this command that will export the scp record from ForestB to ForestA. But how can the Outlook client tell what SCP record to connect to if the email alias namespace is the same in both Forests?

Export-AutoDiscoverConfig -DomainController DomainControllerName -TargetForestDomainController TargetForestDomainControllerName -MultipleExchangeDeployments $true

Thanks

Exchange 2010 /2013 DAG Design

Hi All,

I Have Gone through some Articles and Blogs where i read about the DAG Design and Member server placement in Site Resiliency Scenarios..

I just want to know what and how many DAG Designs we can propose to Customers.

As per my knowledge and study i came across -

(A) Active/Passive Model with Shared Namespace (Single DAG)

(B)  Active/Passive model with different namespaces (Single DAG)

(C) Active/Active Model with Different Namespaces (2 DAGs).

I am Just Curious to know is there any other model DAG that can be proposed apart from above mentioned Designs in terms of both Namespace and Database Active copy Location.

Also can you also put some light and clarify whether we can haveActive/Active Model with Shared Namespace (Single DAG). I have read it is supported in exchange 2013, if so can we do the same in Exchange 2010 as well. If not what makes this design different in exchange 2010 v/s exchange 2013. How can we achieve this design in exchange 2013?

I got a good article on above scenarioshere but I have some terms or paragraphs bit confusing. Please help me to understand the bold lines in below paragraph.

Since we typically only have active users connecting to the primary datacenter (at least the majority of the users connect to this datacenter unless a site failover occurs), the autodiscover record (autodiscover.exchangelabs.dk) in external DNS points to the load balancer in the primary datacenter. The internal “AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri” on the CAS servers in the primary datacenter has been configured with a value of https://mail.exchangelabs.dk/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml, and the same goes for the CAS servers in the failover datacenter. Now you could choose to point the AutoDiscoverInternalUri on CAS servers in the failover datacenter at “https://failover.exchangelabs.dk/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml” but you can easily up on in a situation where SCP’s aren’t reachable during a site failover. Also, cross-site traffic caused by Autodiscover have a minor impact on the WAN link since autodiscover requests consists of small XML based text files.

Also inActive/Passive model with different namespaces (Single DAG) or  Active/Active Model with Different Namespaces (2 DAGs) model do we still repoint EWS,OA,EAS etc. web service records in public DNS. If yes what should be their value (please referComplete Site failoverSegment in Above URL)

it would be very helpful if you could provide any detailed Design diagram as mentioned in URL to understand the things better. or any Technet Articled with well description

Thanks in advance

Default Services Settings

Hi,

I have a single Exchange 2013 server which seems to have gone a bit awry after a Security update was applied. The problem stems from the fact that all of my services were disabled after the update and when re- enabling all of them I set them all to automatic. However there seems to be an issue with IIS which does not start and has to be manually started therefore OWA and other services don't run. I suspect therefore that some of my Exchange services or IIS itself should possibly be set to Automatic (Delayed start) in order that the services start in the correct sequence thus enabling everything to stay up and running on completion of the start-up routine. Can anyone tell me what the correct settings should be so that I can eliminate this as a potential cause before delving further into the potential reasons.  Many Thanks

Public Folder Mailbox- Missing Primary Hierarchy Exchange 2013

Hi guys,

I was attempting to create a Public Folder using the Exchange Admin Center but when i tried it came up with the error "Couldn't find the public folder mailbox."

When I went back to check on the Public Folder Mailbox that I had created I noticed that there was no Primary Hierarchy even though Secondary Hierarchy where visible.

Is it Possible to recreate the Primary or change one of the existing Secondaries.

Thanks

Migrate Mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 / ClientAccess Questions (2010 CAS-Array without Outlook Anywhere Konfig)

Hello together,

having a question about the migration from exchange 2010 to exchange 2013.

Situation A:

Exchange 2010 with CAS Array (MAPI):  cas.corp.local

Outlook Anywhere is not enabled. No External Access.

Outlook 2010++ is configured to connect via MAPI to CAS Array.

Situation B:

Exchange 2010 with CAS Array (MAPI):  cas.corp.local

Outlook Anywhere is enabled:outlook.corp.com

Outlook 2010++ is configured to connect via MAPI to CAS Array from Internal. From External Outlook Anywhere is beeing used.

Questions:

1. Situation A: ist it neccessary to enable outlook anywhere first in this setup before moving mailboxes to Exchange 2013 ? how is this switchover handled by Exchange ?

Does Exchange 2013 need only to have a external Outlook Anywhere Hostname or is the internal enought for this scenario ?

Where does the Autodiscover Record have to point in the time of the coexistence/migration ?

How does the correct migration process have to look like? Repointing DNS/Migrating Mailboxes, etc.

2. Situation B: this seems to be the "best" configuration correct ? shouldn't make any problems ?

Is there any advantage firstly to configure internal outlooks to use outlook anywhere internal instead of MAPI ?

For Exchange 2013: Internal and external outlook anyhwere hostname has to be configured but can/should be different ?

3. is it better to use outlook anywhere from now internally with Exchange 2010 in spite of knowing exchange 2013 is coming ... ? Why ? What are the advantages ? Or is this only necessary for the "ambiguous urls" Problem scenario ? http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/05/23/ambiguous-urls-and-their-effect-on-exchange-2010-to-exchange-2013-migrations.aspx

4. How is the way back if i move a mailbox from exchange 2013 to 2010. Is outlook then configured back to use the cas array by mapi ?

Thanks for Feedback,

Best,

Martin

Migrate from Exchange 2007 to 2013 without modifying client devices

Let's use contesso.com as an example.  Let's say the Exchange 2007 server's internal and external name are currently mail.contesso.com.  Now I am going to introduce a new Exchange 2013 server named mail2.contesso.com.  The Exchange Server Deployment Assistant says that we should make the external DNS entry point mail.contesso.com to the 2013 server and legacy.contesso.com point to the 2007 server.  That takes care of external clients.  I don't understand how internal clients will find the correct server because they are all configured for mail.contesso.com which internally points to the 2007 server.  We have over 200 users with multiple devices.  We do not want to be forced to create new Outlook profiles or change the configuration of their mobile devices.

Thanks,

Tina

Exchange Server 2007

I have two questions and need your assistance.   We have an Exchange 2007 server that has served us faithfully for 6 years.   The Hub Transport is setup with 2 Accepted Domains: xyz.net and xyz.com   We recently moved our email off of this server to an outside vendor.  We are keeping the Exchange server 2007 server in order to handle our bulk email financial statements processing.   When we moved to the other vendor we deleted the xyz.com accounts from this exchange server.   Also, our mail.xyz.com Cert will expire in a few days.

In the Accepted Domains we have both xyz.net and xyz.com with xyz.net being our internal domain.   When we send out our email we will be sending email to a few xyz.com email accounts and we need to have that email sent properly to it's destination.  Right now the email is dying at the exchange server since there are no xyz.com email accounts on the server.  These accounts are all on the external vendor server.

I want our xyz.com email to go to our external email vendor along with all of the other email.   Can I simply delete the xyz.com Accepted Domain and make the xyz.net the default?   If not, what do I need to do to take care of the email sent to this exchange server for our xyz.com email accounts is sent on to the external email vendor where we have our email accounts?   Does our expiring Cert matter in sending email?   We do not  use OWA any longer on this server.

Please help as I need to take care of this ASAP.

Thanks Very Much!  - NC Beach Bum

Initializing Setup taking a long time

I'm trying to install Exchange Server 2013 from an ISO download on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.  I followed the instructions for the prerequisites.  I was hoping to do the AD Prep using the setup wizard.  I can't get that far as it just stops at Initializing Setup.  No error, just sits there with the progress bar filling up then starting over again.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tina
